Smoked chicken salad sandwich with potato salad
    MaryLinda W.

This is my favorite place to get lunch when traveling on I-40 through western North Carolina! We stopped over the Memorial Day weekend and were not disappointed. The menu is posted on a chalkboard behind the register and changes if they run out of something. One orders at the register and the food is brought to the table. There are several choices of barbecue sauce available at the tables. It's not a large establishment, but there has always been enough room when we were there. I understand that there is live music on the patio out front on the weekends, but we haven't experienced that at lunchtime. This time Hubby ordered a pork sandwich with the macaroni and cheese casserole, and I had potato salad with a smoked chicken salad sandwich. The meats are flavorful, the portions are generous, and the iced tea is refreshing.

To-go. Pulled pork and tri tip

What delicious food! We ordered takeout from Doc Brown's and absolutely loved it. We had the pulled pork and the tri-tip. Both were delicious. I loved the collards as well! The tri-tip must be popular because my husband said we had the last plate. That was around 1 o'clock on a Wednesday afternoon. He said the time it took to order and received the food was pretty quick. It came back piping hot! I also loved the potato salad. Delicious! We did not eat there so I don't feel comfortable commenting on the ambience or seating. We would definitely go back though!

Lunch here this week. Has what appears to be several good options for menu items. I went with the special which was very good. Staff was pleasant and food was fresh. Will def be back for other meals.

The barbecue sides were definitely the star of the show. I should know better in North Carolina than to order brisket, I am a serious Texas style brisket snob, and this brisket was a bit underwhelming. But the sides were really awesome. I had never had fried cabbage, and I really liked it a lot. My wife loved the Black Eyed Peas, and we both thought the sweet potato casserole was one of the best we've ever had. They are well known for their mac & cheese and with good reason. It was really tasty, it had excellent seasoning in flavor. Next time we come back, I will go with the pulled pork. But I totally give four stars for amazing barbecue sides. This is definitely a Bbq spot we will be back to again!

Super friendly folks, fast service, good food! They have vegetarian BBQ, but not being a huge tempeh fan I opted for some sides. My faves: The Mac-n-Cheese pie was pure comfort, with lots of oozy, flavorful cheese - very satisfying. The Sweet Potato Casserole was the right sweetness with a buttery taste and plenty of awesome crunchy bits.

My favorite BBQ place of my trip to the area. I only made it to four (and there's so many more in a fairly short radius), but I loved the no frills atmosphere, friendly service, and great food. Particularly the spare ribs, and more specifically the dry rub option, despite my gut telling me I'dlike the wet better. It's not near much from a tourist perspective, which is partly what landed me there...the hope that the food would stand on its own, without high volume foot traffic to float the business. Well that hope turned into reality. If you happen to be passing through and in need of a quick bite (dine in or take out), Doc's is a great option. Just wish they hadn't been out of brisket...next time!

Stopped in out of desperation to find some authentic NC BBQ while traveling back home in GA. Employees were super friendly. We had a whole conversation with a gentleman who made sure we had everything we ordered. The dining area was a little warm and stuffy but we hardly noticed once we started eating. The pulled pork sandwich is HUGE. They also have authentic Carolina Gold mustard sauce. It's hard for me to find in GA so I was excited. We hope to return in the future next visit up this way.

Hole in the wall place with good BBQ just off the highway outside of Asheville. Rock music on the radio, laid back atmosphere and fast service. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. Sweet tea and Water were self serve. Would recommend!!

This is a great place for barbecue... The brisket is incredibly tender and well prepared... The sides are incredible... The mac & cheese pie is the old fashion, macaroni and cheese. The Brunswick stew is very good and hearty as well... The staff are very nice and very helpful. This is a great find in West Asheville toward Candler.

The gossip was all true... great place to stop for a meal while you're on I-40 (or as the locals we…read morewere chatting with told us, stop by anytime!). Extremely friendly service. The locals raved over the nachos and I heard them ask for the recipe. I'm here to rave to you over the side salad. You get a choice of "boring fries" (their name not mine) or a side salad with your sandwich. Holy cow, that's the best side salad I've ever had. No boring iceberg and insipid tomatoes here. Spring greens, sweet onion, shaved fennel, gourmet tomatoes, pepitas (pumpkin seeds), Craisins and lots of fresh herbs with an amazing house-made vinaigrette dressing. Impressive. Absolutely make a stop here and see for yourself.

This is the best food in Swannanoa and literally 2 minutes off I-40. The beer is great as well but…read moreno joke the food is to die for Nola inspired grub. Killer vibe inside with 10 seat bar, 2 lounge areas, hightop seating and a large/covered dog and kid friendly patio. Best chicken sandwich and roast beef sandwich in all of WNC. All the sides, apps and desserts are amazing and worth going back to fryer everything on the menu. Chef Dano(founder of Root Down) started with a food truck rocking out at all those amazing Pisgah Brewery outdoor shows and most recently ran the food program at salvage station(RIP). Our guy is back and now are doing the same high quality tasty fare in beautiful West Black Mountain
