This place was such an unexpected Jem on our drive through Canton. The entire grounds and facility were mountain town perfection. The old industrial building is so effortlessly charming! There was a beautiful outside patio with fire pits, and plenty of games to spend some hours here. Darts, billiards, cornhole, card games... so great! The staff was so incredibly kind, knowledgeable and helpful! Out of all of our stops in the Asheville area, this is one of the brews we bought to take home! I enjoyed the gluten reduced beer while my husband fell in love with the Smells Like Money dark Belgian. They had a lot of options on tap! I looked 3 different employees in the eye more than once and they kept on what they were doing without acknowledging our existence. The fella behind the bar was just standing there and when I made eye contact with him he just turned away. That's when I decided this place doesn't want my patronage or my money. We were camping at KOA right down the road and decided to bop into the brewery for dinner. There was a little confusion upon arrival since we were passed by without any direction to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. I approached the bar and asked if we should just seat ourselves. We were told to go ahead and pick a table. We scanned the barcode on the table to view the menu. After waiting a bit we figured out that we should place our order at the bar area. We waited in the line to place our order from the menu we scanned at the table, we were then told that the menu had changed and the menu you scanned was not all available. We were given a paper menu from the bar to order from. Food took a bit but they were quite busy. The brewery is located right on the water so the outdoor seating was pretty packed. The inside has the indoor/outdoor vibe with a large garage door that opens to the outside. Everything was delicious including the beer! We had been on the road so long I forgot to take photos. Not a single picture! The process is a bit confusing at first if you aren't familiar with the restaurant but I would definitely return for another meal and some cold brews. I think the main business they receive comes from the employees that work at a paper mill factory, so I imagine most people grab a beer after work to relax. This is the exact brewery were my obsession with stouts & porters started - it's also my mom's favorite kind of beer & I follow after her. My mom and I each had a stout - love that it's heavier, creamier & more flavorful to me compared to an IPA (too bitter) or any type of light beer (not trying to loose lose weight)! Also, had a Cherry Wood Porter (smokey) - 5% alcohol & one of the stronger ones on tap. My brother got a Mango Lager and my German dad got a Hefeweizen, of course! They've been open for a 1.5 year, seem to be doing well, but the kitchen ran out of food on Sun. evening & closed at 6pm. The two people in front including us didn't get served - tough break! I suggest eating beforehand, so this doesn't happen to you! Trust me, you don't want to drink beer on an empty stomach! read more

One of the friendliest breweries I've ever visited and I've been to A LOT. Visited after tubing the river for a few hours and was pretty fun. They would let you try whatever you were interested in and the beer was solid with plenty of style selections. Plenty of seating inside and out for whatever vibe you're going for. Got a pretty awesome t-shirt to boot! Highly recommend to make a day of the tubing that shares the parking lot and grab some to go beer! read more

FAMILY-owned drew us to this brewpub. A brewpub in a small town outside of Asheville. Looks like it's sited in an old warehouse near a river. I had the Haywood Haze (NEHIPA). It was okay but just that. The Catawba hazy is still my fav in the Asheville area. Wife had a Chardonnay. Limited dinner menu ... I had the Thai Chick Rice Bowl and wife had the Mediterranean Chick Rice Bowl. Both served quickly! No one would ever mistake these as true Asian prepped (if you will) but they were quite tasty albeit on the small side. But actually the portioning was appropriate in the long run. Finished beer time with their Tripple. Not nearly as 'over'-coriandered as typical Tripples. It was very drinkable. Overall a good experience! Sometimes I wish brewpubs (and restaurants in general) would do well to advise guests where to park. The one thing we've run into in Asheville is parking although it WAS NOT A PROBLEM at Bearwater Brewery. read more

Stopped for a bite and brew while on the road. It is a few miles out of the way but it was a welcomed stop from holiday travel. We tried the bourbon barrel aged and merlot aged beers. Both were delicious but I preferred the saison on merlot. Food is available to order at a window and delivered to your table. Chicken tenders and fries were fantastic, would recommend for sure. The fries were a unique cut and nicely flavored. Tenders were prepared well and coleslaw was good. Shrimp po'boy was good with grilled shrimp. Just like nearly every brewery this place has a super cool vibe! We were there during an event so there were tons of people but they were prepared and we never had to wait more than 3 minutes for a refill. The beers were good but honestly not really anything special the food though, the dry rub chicken wings were out of this world they had a hint of sweet and some good spices. The other wings were just okay, we had honey garlic and habanero also. Weird thing to mention it the bathrooms at this place should win awards they are so nice and clean! Nearly everyone had a burger. Food was a little slow coming out but no major deal. Burger and fries were good. Was given packages of ketchup for the fries. Since they opened in Canton I would stop in at least once a week for a couple of beers and occasionally for lunch. Beers were reasonably priced and food has been ok for the most part. Couple of months ago I was there and ordered an IPA was surprised when I closed out my tab to see they charge $8. Each for these beers. Outside of concerts or airports I don't know that I have seen an average IPA for $8. Had their fish and chips and it was basic frozen prebattered cod deep fried. Had a great afternoon at this nice brewery. We sat outside with our dog on the creek and enjoyed some. Samples and a few pints. We had the chips with all the dips and server brought more chips to finish off our dips. The beers were awesome. We had two IPAs, and both were good. The service was fantastic. Our server was great. I don't know here name but taller, skinny and beautiful face, from PA. In her 40's would be my guess. She is awesome and did a great job. Usually great food but tonight the food really sucked on all aspects of the meal.Seems like they overcooked everything in burnt oil. my wife's Braut was on a hotdog bun and the menu clearly says that it should be on a Hogie Roll. The cheese for the soft pretzel that should have been melted and warm was cold and hard. My Daughter in-laws Chicken breast sandwich with the fixings was just a burnt chicken tender on a bun with no fixings. Very disappointing. ended up taking the Grandkids to McDonalds for a meal that they could at least eat. I paid the bill and tip because it wasn't the server's fault only the cook's. Absolutely love and recommend Bearwaters! We have been coming to Bearwaters since it was over in Waynesville behind Sagebrush. I love the place in Canton and how it just keeps getting better. We had the pepperoni flatbread and it was so good! The only downside and what I miss from the food change is the Philly Cheese they used to have because it was made with the most awesome beer cheese ever! I really would LOVE it if they brought that back to their new menu. Always lots of people here, they are doggo friendly with lots of places to sit both inside and outside. Great view of the river. We have never had any issues with service even when they were super busy. They always have a cider option, which I am very thankful for and that's always good. I also tried the pink lemonade made from a sour beer and it was really good! Better than I expected. Will continue to frequent Bearwaters. read more

Not only do they have a great location, right by the water with a ton of outdoor and indoor seating, they also have a great selection of beers on tap as well as good food. Having watched this brewery launch itself to its new level, we are thrilled at what it has become! The new Canton location will provide you with a complete "feel at home" experience. With its main area like a giant family room, you'll notice other areas around the perimeter - the game area, party room, sportsman's hangout, The Pigeon River Grille serving up some delicious food, a loft above it all and the outside area on the river makes it a a great place to hang out. Sliding rock American ale is awesome! This new brewery is an awesome hanging out space on the Pigeon River. They are so friendly and the beer is great! Food is available from the Pigeon river grille.
