Great spot and it's a shame I haven't been here sooner. Headed to Asheville for a concert and stopped here for a beer. Plenty of seating inside and outside. The IPA was really good and the Hefeweizen was a decent take. Really enjoyed sitting outside on a beautiful summer day. Definitely a great spot to hang out for an afternoon. Cons: wish there was better line management. Lining up parallel with the bar was odd and people ordering food slowed down the line for just ordering a refill. I really want to give this place 5 stars for atmosphere, good food, and good beer but an interaction with a supervisor ruined what would have been a great experience. We were a party of 8 with 4 small kids. We placed 2 separate food orders at the same time and were handed what ended up being the wrong order when the first buzzer went off (2/3 items were correct but one item was missing and the third was not made as we had ordered it). We didn't realize the mistake until my son had already started eating the kids meal, and 15 minutes had gone by without the buzzer going off for my sister's order. We went back to the food pick up area and realized that my correct order was sitting there (with the ticket number associated with the buzzer that had already gone off), but there was no trace of my sister's order (presumably it was given to someone else). The employee handing out food was very apologetic and told my sister that the food truck told her it would be quite a wait to get the order remade (the place was very busy). With 2 hungry kids my sister decided not to wait and asked for a refund. The server said it shouldn't be a problem but my sister would need to talk to a supervisor. This supervisor essentially said that since my sister walked away with the wrong order, she was not entitled to a refund. Their system for delivering food orders seems so chaotic and flawed it is ludicrous to expect the customer to shoulder the blame when a mistake is made. My sister is a patient and kind person, but she stood her ground. The supervisor became agitated and acted in a very unprofessional way by snapping that the refund has been issued and then completely ignoring her. We live here and were excited to take visiting family to a local spot, but I'm not sure we'll go back to a place where management has such poor regard for their (very nice and reasonable) customers. read more

We tried this for the first time Friday night. Place was busy, plenty of parking. Restaurant was clean and staff was positive and helpful. My old company is based in Mills River. One of our longstanding sales reps was celebrating her well deserved retirement and there was a group that planned her celebration here. I drove up from GA to give my congratulations Plenty of parking here, and the facility is large. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and last night (Thursday) there was a guy playing guitar and singing- good stuff, Allman Bros, etc. The bourbon and whiskey offering here is absolutely fantastic! Jennifer was the person I dealt with towards the end, and shamefully I didn't get anyone else's name but everyone was awesome here. There's a food truck here full time, so you can get food while you enjoy a couple of cold ones. Something for everyone! When visiting family in NC we had the opportunity to visit Mills River Brewing for some T Swift trivia. They had signage sharing fun events going on all through the week, lively music, ample in door and outdoor seating, and great food and drink selections. You go up to a counter to order and get a buzzer to return for your food, we tried some desserts, cocktails, egg rolls, fries, and their nachos! Food was a little on the pricier side for what it was but everything was tasty and getting to hang out somewhere lovely was well worth it! Stopped here after visiting the Troll exhibit at the NC Arboretum for lunch. Pleasantly surprised to see a very nice selection of $10 lunches that also came with a soft drink. I opted for the hamburger and house chips. You could substitute fries for $3 more. The burger was cooked nicely and was very well dressed. Special sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion with pickles on the side. Tasted great! The house chips were flavorful and crispy. One friend in our group had a salad and another had the chili and a grilled cheese sandwich which was also on the $10 lunch special. The other member had a Reuben sandwich and fries. Now, onto the beer. I had a taste of the vanilla porter and it was great. I loved the taste so I ordered a pint. They have a very large indoor area with lots of tables and a large bar. Ambience: After a day of hiking at Dupont Forest, this was an awesome lunch stop. Beautiful place (see pictures) backing up to a wooded area. Food: A seriously huuuuuuge menu, and beer, wine, cocktails. What a fun place to spend the evening! This brewery has a lot to offer, with a wide range of beers available, a huge (and delicious) food menu, live music, outdoor patios, shaded woods area to relax in, along with so much more. We came into town to visit friends and were planning on just staying here for a beer, and ended up canceling our dinner reservation elsewhere and just stayed at Mills River instead. This is by far one of our fav places in the Asheville area. It has quickly become one of our "go-to" spots. The food is incredible and the atmosphere is great for a date nights, celebrations, letting the kids get outside and play, etc. The indoor dining is a vibe. The outdoor dining is very expansive. There is heated seating at high top tables, picnic tables, adirondack, etc. in addition to this there is a great walking path and plenty of places to explore. Great beers across a myriad of styles! Pretty awesome food too! Not a lot of vegan/vegetarian options, but good fries to pair with the beers. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. Only 2 complaints about our visit: The lines to get beer and food are ambiguous, long, and kinda a mess. We rock paper scissors'd for who had to navigate it each time. It's really random and unorganized. They also reserve a ton of tables at a small brewery. Never seen anything like that before, but like half the seating was reserved and from the look of it, lots weren't showing up anyway. Even the table we found became reserved after the fact and we were hurried away while we were eating. I wouldn't care, but I was with my parents and we felt rushed and couldn't enjoy things. Most people will head over to the more corporate feeling Sierra Nevada brewery when down this way and honestly I always have. However on my last Asheville trip I found this place and decided to check it out. I was surprised how large it is with a huge indoor area and even larger outdoor seating with both patio style and benches up a small hill in a more wooded area and setting. Decently large beer menu and quick service. They also have a full wine and liquor selection for those who are not beer fans. The best part is their relatively large food menu. They have what looks like permanent food trucks out front and each has a slightly different speciality. Their sandwhiches were more then filling. read more

We took a little road trip to Mills River Brewing to see a friend who takes part in the weekly bluegrass jam. We were very impressed by the woodsy location and overall vibe. While the parking lot appeared crowded when we arrived, we were still able to get a table near the outdoor stage, since the place is so spread out. Both of the IPAs we had were excellent and the service was great despite the long lines...they moved quickly. Also impressive was the food. A pizza and an app were enough for two with leftovers to take home. We'll definitely be back for some great beers and music! read more

By far my favorite brewery in South Asheville/ Mills River area. There is an amazing outdoor seating area for kids to run and dogs to join. Live music all the time, and Trivia on Tuesday's. The beer is amazing, Mr. LIGHT is my favorite. But there are wine and liquor options for your friends who had too much beer over the weekend. Food is available from the food truck with pizza and burgers and nachos.. so many options. The bartenders are so nice and if you're a regular, they do an amazing job to remember your norm. So the ambiance of this place is cool, and the food is OK, but I'd recommend screenshot it the time you order your food and ensuring your order is not overlooked. I ordered at 12:20 p.m., and by 1 p.m., I went to the counter to check on the ETA(at that time I was understanding that they might have been busy). Without checking my buzzer number, a guy asked what I ordered and said he saw that they just made it. I continued to wait another 30 minutes, and asked another guy/gal what was up, and the girl indicated my order must have been overlooked and they'd have to remake it or that she would check. The guy checked my buzzer number and told me it was overlooked, and they were remaking it. That actually only took about 10 minutes, so 1 hour 15 minutes, after ordering, food was ready. --- wonder how long it would have been if not checking twice. read more

The bartender was so friendly and the service was good. However, the past two times we have been here we have noticed so much trash in their outside area. We love this brewery because they have such a good outside area to let our toddler go play. The past couple times we have visited there has been SO much garbage all over the ground. There were too many cigarette butts to even count. There really isn't a single area of their outside that isn't covered in trash. There were even crushed beer cans. Last time I thought maybe it was because it was after a show or busy day, but it seems like maybe this has become a normal thing for them. Loved this place! The beer was good and they even had an IPA I enjoyed (not typically an IPA fan). The food was surprisingly even better! Their chips are really amazing. We had chips and a grilled cheese and both were great, chips were so good we ordered a second batch. Definitely would like to try out their burgers, they looked amazing. The outside patio area was super nice. The place was pretty empty when we came but I can only imagine how cool the outside area is when there's people there and they have that outside bar open. Delicious beer and really delicious burgers! This was a terrific afternoon hangout location after a marathon. And guess what? They love dogs too so your pup is welcome indoors. What an adorable little spot! We'd been to Mills River Brewing's neighbor (Bold Rock) a number of times, and finally decided to check out some of the other food and beverage options in the area. All I can say is that I'm SO glad we finally had the chance to check out this place, because I'm anticipating this becoming a new Mills River favorite for us!! We arrived right around 7 PM on a Friday evening and although the parking lot looked full, it didn't feel crowded at all once we got inside. We waited in a short line at the bar (that had visuals indicating where to wait to maintain 6 feet of distance), then took our drinks and food pager to one of the outdoor picnic tables. Note that Mills River Brewing has a permanent food truck on site, but you place all food orders at the bar, not at the actual truck. (By the way-- check out their menu--they have a variety of options and all the food we had was excellent!!) The food did take a while to arrive, but we didn't mind waiting because the location is just breathtaking. We enjoyed sitting outside in the fresh air, listening to the live band, and watching the sunset over the mountains! Regarding COVID procedures, Mills River Brewing is doing a pretty job. All staff wore masks indoors, there were very clear visuals on the floor showing where to wait in the bar line, tables seem to be well spaced apart, and their outdoor area is *really* nice with lots of seating! We did notice that not many guests were wearing masks (even indoors), though that didn't bother us too much since all the doors were open.
