I was craving something light and healthy. So, I did a quick search via Yelp for a salad spot and immediately drooled over the salads at Green Tomato Grill! Arrived around lunch time at 12:30pm and was immediately hit with how good it smelled in here. It could have partially been because I was super hungry, but either way I was ready for something yummy. This is your standard fast casual spot. You order up front, grab a number, and the crew drops it off for you. Simple enough. I will say though, the team here were incredibly kind and pleasant. Always smiling and definitely made me feel welcome. From the cashier to the person who dropped my food, everyone was super sweet. I'm a huge lover of customer service, and that's the kind of thing that'll keep me coming back. Food was great! I ordered the Miso salad and it was delicious. Fresh spring mix with chicken and other fixings. Since it was my first time at Green Tomato Grill, I was offered a free side and chose the tomato soup. So good, fresh and warm (it was a gloomy and cold day so it really hit the spot). I added one of the refreshers drinks which was super tasty as well. Great experience over at Green Tomato Grill! From the food to the customer service, it was the perfect healthy lunch spot. Next time I'm in the mood for something fresh, healthy, and delicious, I'll be right here! read more

I was looking for something that was fast, decent quality and on the healthier side. So I opted to get the Paleo Burger Bowl. My overall impression was that it was just okay. It's not that the bowl was of poor quality, but it just tasted very bland. Granted, it could've just been the nature of the bowl I ordered. Visited again to meal prep for the week. They have a new Summer menu, so I was excited to try out their new food items. The workers are attentive, quick, & efficient. I appreciate them bringing the food out directly to me, despite whether I was sitting inside or outside. They were still able to find me lol. Food & drinks: I spread out each food item throughout the week. Even after leaving them in the fridge for a couple days, it still tasted bomb! 1. Watermelon Mint Lemonade - I got this drink last time, and I really enjoyed it. Still refreshing and minty as I remembered. 2. Pineapple Berry Lemonade - I also really enjoyed this drink. It was fruity and refreshing. Perfect for the summer days. 3. Matcha Latte - I thought this drink was okay. I personally prefer a strong matcha taste. This was mixed with oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk, & organic agave. Definitely creamy from all the milks, but it didn't feel too heavy. 4. BBQ Shrimp Melt - Wow these were bigger than expected lol. There was a generous amount of shrimps filled with vegetables. The grilled flatbread made it more fulfilling. Everything was grilled to perfection! So good! 5. BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad - The salad was fresh and paired well with the BBQ ranch dressing. There were lots of protein and toppings. 6. Chile Verde Bowl - This is for the rice and protein lovers. I really like how they season their rice. It was filled with spices, vegetables, protein, and topped with fresh avocados. 7. Specialties

We created a menu centered around unique flavors, fresh ingredients, and lots of vegetables. Unlike other fast establishments, we butcher and marinate our own meat and cut all our vegetables fresh in-house every day. All of our sauces are either vegetable or Greek yogurt based and also made from scratch. Everything is made to order, allowing us to serve many different special dietary needs including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan entrees.

History

Established in 2013.

It all started when 3 guys wanted to see if they could create concept where the food was fast, fresh, affordable, healthy, special diet friendly, convenient, interesting, and really good tasting. To keep it simple they made the mission statement: Fast Healhy Tasty! Over 2 years the concept changed from an idea to Green Tomato Grill. The menu is simple, but the flavors are very different. Chef Kyle Markt was adamant about creating a menu where you could frequent the restaurant often and always feel like there's something different or a new combination to try. Another goal was to make healthy affordable food for people with special dietary needs. The majority of the menu is gluten free and there are many different vegetarians combinations available. The Green Tomato is a place where the staff really wants satisfy. Our Create Your Own menu has a specific section for requests so if you want your rice bowl or salad a certain way, we'll try our best to accommodate.

Meet the Business Owner: Kyle M.

I love food. I love everything about dining out. I love feeding people healthier food with real vegetables that actually tastes good. I care about serving environmentally conscious products and have trying to do so without charging too much (not easy). I have no agenda to push as far as dieting goes. I believe in making food from scratch. I don't like fake meats or synthetic sugars. I would be happy to invite anyone into my kitchen and show you every product and recipe. I'm proud of what we do. I'm proud of my staff. I'm proud to be a member of the Green Tomato Grill.

I used to be able to order just the food items on DoorDash before but now it's REQUIRED to make it a combo with a side order and a drink. Is this intended or a mistake in the setup?

It's not often today for the owner of a business to reach out directly to a customer - she did and it was a very positive engagement. There are time that even the best business has a hiccup and something goes wrong. What makes a huge difference is how the business responds, and therefore, Rekindle gets five stars. I'm certain my next visit will be fantastic - I'll be posting an update in the near future. Wow - So Disappointed! Rekindle was at the Taste of Orange this year and I enjoyed one of the Italian sandwich samples they were handing out. It was fantastic! We met the owner - she was very charismatic and charming. Today we stopped by to grab an Italian sandwich, and I just cannot believe they served me bread that was so old and dry - it would have been perfect for croutons, but definitely nothing like what we had at the Taste of Orange. The bread was so dry I had to dress it up with some olive relish to eat it - I don't expect when I pay $31 for a sandwich and chai iced tea latte to get home and have to start working on my sandwich. I accept some responsibility for this, because honestly, who goes to a coffee shop for a sandwich.

"Avocado Scarcity Crisis at Green Tomato Grill" I recently had the misfortune of ordering the teriyaki chicken bowl with avocado from Green Tomato Grill, and let me tell you, it was an avocado apocalypse on my plate. I received what can only be described as two measly slices of avocado that seemed to have suffered a severe identity crisis, unsure if they were actually part of this dish or just lost tourists in a sea of teriyaki chicken. I've attached images for your entertainment, but be warned - it's not for the faint of heart. These avocado slices were so small; I contemplated using a magnifying glass just to confirm their existence. I'm convinced I paid for a mere fraction of an avocado when, at the store, I could have bought three whole avocados for the price of this microscopic serving. In the spirit of finding the silver lining, let me commend Green Tomato Grill on their imaginative take on minimalism. Who knew that two avocado slices could be stretched so far? It's like they attended an art class and mistakenly thought they were practicing abstract expressionism on my plate. Now, let's talk about the taste - because evidently, Green Tomato Grill believes that flavor compensates for the great avocado heist. The teriyaki chicken bowl did manage to salvage some of my taste bud's dignity. It was delicious, perhaps designed to distract me from the avocado travesty on my plate. Kudos for creating a culinary masterpiece that almost made me forget I was robbed of a proper avocado experience. In conclusion, if you have a hankering for teriyaki chicken and don't mind engaging in a game of "Where's Waldo: Avocado Edition," Green Tomato Grill might be the place for you. A few weeks ago, we found ourselves in Orange and were in search of a healthier dining option when Green Tomato Grill caught our eye. It turned out to be a great little spot with a relaxed, mellow atmosphere. The outdoor patio was especially refreshing, the perfect place to enjoy a meal. Service was excellent from the start. The team was welcoming, and the young woman who took our order was genuinely friendly and accommodating. We started with the Greek Mezze Wrap, filled with grilled chicken, artichoke hearts, bell peppers, pepperoncinis, Kalamata olives, tomatoes, mixed greens, and a flavorful chimichurri hummus, all wrapped in a wheat tortilla and dressed with Greek vinaigrette. It was fresh, well-balanced, and something I'd definitely order again. We also tried the crispy tofu BBQ bowl and a side of sweet potato fries, both delicious and didn't last long at the table. I found this restaurant thanks to Google maps. When I got there, the register section was crammed with people waiting to order, people waiting for their takeouts and people trying to get the stuff from their self-serve station after their orders so it looked chaotic. Probably because of the time and the number of people, the staff looked overwhelm at they just wanted to take orders and next in line. I like that they offer a lot of interesting looking items and gluten-free options. The first thing that caught my eyes was the green chile pork burrito. Unfortunately, the breakfast menu is until 12 and I had to go for the chicken Cesar wrap. I didn't have to wait a lot for my order and the wrap was just okay, it came with a small portion of popcorn with some type of zesty chili powder. My best friend did it again. I think I might go vegan because of all the amazing places she's showed me. I came here today with her and my son. I got him a kid's chicken and rice bowl, it comes with two veggies and is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. He couldn't even finish it (he's eating it now for dinner ;) ) I got the kids cup and put pineapple ginger lemonade in it. He loved it!! I ordered the vegan burger and it tasted AMAZING!!!! Had to put in a review asap! Came here for lunch and came back again for dinner! It was my first time here, and the cute girl at the counter recommended the flatbread melts. DELICIOUS. I had a Greek chicken melt which came with a greek yogurt sauce on the side. When I came back for dinner she recommended the Salmon Salad. Normally I am not a salad guy, but it really hit the spot. The salad was bigger than I thought and I washed it all down with some of their Agave Cucumber Mint Lemonade and fried green tomatoes. The dishes here are colorful and prepared fresh. We have been passing this restaurant every week when we are in Orange and it is always packed. Inside table and chair dining. Veggie, gluten free and vegan options next to carnivore - they are here to please everyone. The husband tried the Vegan Char burger with lime popcorn, tasty though the cheese wasn't melted over the top , just merely placed in between the lettuce and avocado. I tried the BBQ Tofu bowl seasoned with lemongrass and served with black beans, snow pea, jicama and a bunch of other yummy veggies all sloshed with a chipotle BBQ sauce- extremely good. THE MOST DELICIOUS LUNCH EVER. No, really, EV. ER. I'm so glad I came back to Green Tomato Grill, I just tried the thai shrimp bowl for lunch and it was amazing. Fresh, lots of veggies, full of flavor, just spicy enough, and the shrimp (which I usually hesitate to order unless I'm in a major seafood restaurant) were plump, perfectly seasoned, cooked just perfectly and snappy fresh. I really like how pretty much everything can be customized to be made vegan. I ordered the grilled chicken club sandwich and substituted the chicken with grilled tofu and it was a super combo especially with the chabatta bread. I brought my wife here for her first time hoping they would have the Nashville Spicy vegan chicken sandwich but it wasn't on the menu any more which was too bad bad because we both love spicy "chicken" sandwiches. I do appreciate the happy hour discount for college students, i will definitely need coming back for that and to try the vegan breakfast burrito. read more

I grew up in Orange, and it was always so hard to find good food. Ended up moving, but when I went back to visit my family I found this wonderful new cafe and I'm definitely a fan. They have a ton of options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, the food is super fresh, and almost everything I've had there I've loved. Not the biggest fan in the world of the steak the one time I had it, a bit chewy, otherwise this place is certainly 5 star worthy. Keep up the great work, and I hope we get more restaurants like you in Orange soon! :-) read more

It's been a while since I was here last but I have to say I'm disappointed. Ordered online and got my bowl. It was overly warm (the packaging) and almost too hot to the touch. Then it was packed to the brim. Not that it's a bad thing but it was difficult to eat and it was also so overpacked with rice. I have been coming to Green Tomato for several years. With a great selection and great service it is one of my favorite places to go and eat. As a chiropractor at Pure Health Chiropractic I am always looking for healthy quick options. They offer a great selection of healthy entrées at reasonable price. Thrilled by the clientele. Sat outside and shared a bench. Everyone there was super friendly and I didn't have to feel bad about my toddler who raided the fountain and had to be chased almost the entire meal. I found the service to be mediocre and the food to lack full flavor. I had a chicken bowl it was ehhhh okay. There was this one staff member who literally looked like death and felt that she wanted to murder everyone in the store, she was the one delivering food to the tables. This place is just okay...idk. Some people in my family love this place but my mother and I are just not big fans. I don't think the flavors are all that great and I haven't had what I expect to be super fresh veggies. The prices are pretty fair and there is a diverse menu which is nice. It almost felt like they were closing but I knew they closed later than that so I wasn't sure. Anyway, I still think this is a nice cafe in Orange right across from CHOC if you're waiting for someone.

I needed up ordering the chicken over rice platter, the 6pc wings with the hot honey sauce (new), and the loaded fries. I'm so big on my nacho cheese over my chips or fries because it provides so much comfort in my mouth and tummy. The fries are nicely cooked, with warm and creamy nacho cheese and tons of season chicken. It was so flavorful and devoured it fast. The chicken over rice platter was well balanced with my protein, carbs, and fresh salad. Enjoyed it a lot with their tzatziki and mild green sauce which was perfect. The chicken wings itself were nicely cooked and crispy, with tender meat on the inside. Enjoyed it with their new hot honey sauce, which added a little kick of hot but balanced with some sweetness to it. Overall, all of the food i ordered was so delicious and worth spending money on because it's that good. The service was patient and friendly getting my order. It's a very chill and bright light environment. I definitely need to go back and try more of their menu!

You should leave. Grabbing plates from people, raising your voice " you're grabbing too much pickle", and ruining the entire vibe of the restaurant for other customers by rushing them to order and conveying a rude "hurry up and pay" attitude. Used to come here every Wednesday for their burrito specials, loved this place, and after getting to know the owner's grandson I found out they have several other locations which I'll be visiting instead of this one.
