It's not often today for the owner of a business to reach out directly to a customer - she did and it was a very positive engagement. There are time that even the best business has a hiccup and something goes wrong. What makes a huge difference is how the business responds, and therefore, Rekindle gets five stars. My son and I were on the hunt for a local, non-Starbucks coffee shop when we stumbled across Rekindle Coffee. As a former barista and someone who genuinely appreciates craft coffee, I was excited to give it a try. Immediately upon walking in, there is an overwhelming amount of choices from sandwiches and salads to pastries to coffee. There were 2 pastry cases that looked incredible, but unfortunately the pastries didn't live up to their appearance. The bear claw and blueberry twist were both surprisingly bland and lacked the rich, fresh flavor we expected. The drinks were the biggest disappointment. I ordered a decaf English Toffee Latte with vanilla cold foam and whole milk, while my son ordered The Gremlin with whole milk. When I looked at the receipt afterward, it showed both drinks were made with 2% milk, and mine had brown sugar cold foam instead of vanilla. It also tasted like there was far too much artificially flavored syrup, giving it an overly sweet taste. That explained why I couldn't finish it. I'm also not sure why they asked which milk I wanted if they weren't going to use it. One bright spot was the complimentary sample of their matcha cake--it was delicious. I ended up taking a slice home, along with a pistachio brownie, to enjoy later. I'm always searching for the perfect cup of coffee, but unfortunately Rekindle proved to be more like a fancy donut shop rather than a coffee shop. read more

There are lots of new coffee places around Tustin ave. in Orange that I've tried lately, but I keep coming back to Rekindle. Not only do they have the friendliest staff, but their pastries and desserts are top tier. Not only are they better than all the other coffee shops, they are better than all the bakeries in the area too. Their medium drip coffee is the best that I can get anywhere too. If you're a lover of holiday themed treats, it's a must to come here during Halloween time. It's a small unassuming coffee shop with a few bar seats inside. For spooky season they fill the space with decorations and delicious themed treats. Their display of cookies is impressive and they make them big. We had to grab a Double Chocolate Oreo ($4.95) and a Spider Cookie ($4.99). The double chocolate oreo is exactly what you would expect and perfect for an Oreo lover. The spider cookie is a peanut butter cookie with a Reese's spider on top and it was a good also. I had to get a Pumpkin Delight ($4.99) pastry and it was not only cute but tasted good. It has a pumpkin cream cheese filling and I think I also tasted apple pieces. The pastry shell itself was buttery and flaky. I would get this again. It was hard to choose which seasonal drink to try but I went with the Frankenmatcha ($7/16oz.). It's a toffee and vanilla flavored matcha with ube cold foam. The drink is cute and the server was nice enough to replace the eyes in it when they sank. Unfortunately the matcha flavor was lost in all the sweetness. I think the only thing that I don't like about Rekindle is that it isn't closer to my work. But it's my go-to when I have a little extra time in the mornings. There are a few parking spots right in front of Rekindle and a few more spots in the back of those are full. As I walked up this morning, there was a lady out front in a Zoom meeting and another group of ladies gathering for coffee and company. I absolutely love both of those. So there is outdoor seating as well as a few seats inside. Rekindle is NEVER lacking in the pastry, goodie, and cookie department. They offer a wide assortment of bagels. I've had the cheese, cheese and bacon, churro, and bruschetta...all toasted with cream cheese and cut in half because they are the perfect sharing size...or enough for the next day. And I can't seem to escape there without a GIANT cookie in hand. My go-to is the PB cup cookie but today I was feeling more festive and opted for the caramel pecan. I was not disappointed at all. I also saw one with Craisins so I may have to take a trip back for tasting purposes of course. Their holiday menu is out and I'm not gonna lie, I wanted to try everything on the menu. However I opted to mash a few together and ordered a iced gingerbread latte with oat milk and toasted marshmallow cold foam. The outside area would have been perfect, however the Santa Ana winds had other plans. We sat at the bar and granted, it was a little tight but it wasn't too much of a bother. First I'd like to say how punctual they are in opening doors right at the time they have their time advertised. I like how this coffee- bakery spot is nearby home and it's open at the time where I can grab something quick. It's so clean inside and outside. You can smell the bread and bagels of the dough coming through when you open he door. It's nostalgic. I also enjoy the variety of drinks and food items they offer. We all love having options. Today I had orders a large Blended Banana Cream Pie. It's really large. I enjoy the flavors as it does come close resembling the taste of banana cream pies topped with these yummy crumbles. Next time I'll remember to order a small. But it's nice that the large you can definitely share with another person, or if you're not that easy, keep the entire thing to yourself. Bottom Line Up Front: I like this place and definitely plan to return. Now that I have that out of the way, I'm gonna discuss why it's not a perfect place -- it'll seem like I dislike Rekindle Coffee. Just remember, I'm a repeat customer and plan to keep it that way. The Setting: It's not a particularly large shop, with a narrow interior and limited outdoor seating. Inside, there's a long counter with stools, maybe 8 total, with a small counter around the corner (room for maybe 2 more people). Outside there's about 3 to 4 tables. This is not the place for large groups. That's balanced by the whimsical decor and solid music. When I came on a recent Saturday morning, they were playing Depeche Mode (Gen Xers will appreciate it!). The Parking: There's a limited parking in front but it shares a larger lot with the nearby strip mall. The Drinks: For a place with "coffee" in the name, I'm actually disappointed at the java. I got the cookie butter cold foam cold brew and found the coffee itself to be too sour and acidic. After stirring the cold foam thoroughly, it made the drink more palatable (though that isn't the point of cold foam). My wife got the snickers latte and we both agreed it was way too sweet and didn't taste like a Snickers at all. In fact, it wasn't worth the empty calories so we asked if we could "trade it in" for a different drink. Fortunately, the staff there was so kind and let us have a tropical tea as a replacement; and the new drink was delicious! The Entrees: This is where it's at! I ordered the bacon avocado croissant and it was yummy! Sure, it was a little overpriced at about $15, but it was quite satisfying and came with a bag of chips. My wife ordered the keto wrap (essentially a lettuce-wrapped sandwich) that she was able to customize with her choice of protein and veggies. Not only was it tasty but it was also huge -- think Chipotle-sized burrito, but keto friendly. It also came with a bag of chips. The Dessert: I ordered the blueberry cream cheese twist, which was $5 but a decent size. It was a little too soft for my liking, but certainly satisfied my taste buds. In fact, my only regret was not having more room -- Rekindle offers a huge variety of sweets, from muffins and scones to brownies and monster-sizes cookies. The Customer Service: The staff here sealed the deal. I was ready to write them off because the coffee has never been up to par, but the folks here were so kind, understanding, and knowledgeable. They really made me feel welcomed, and that makes all the difference sometimes. The Conclusion: It's rather ironic that I don't like the coffee at this coffee shop but love the food. If you enjoy sugary drinks (think Dutch Bros or boba), you'll enjoy their coffee. But if prefer strong coffee with traditional tastes (think Vietnamese or Italian), try the tea instead and stay for the food. My true rating is 3.5 out of 5, but I'm happily rounding up because of the awesome customer service and delicious sweet and savory food. read more

Rekindle did not rekindle my love for coffee. Service was probably the best part of this experience. The coffee drinks were not. I ordered the blended snickers drink and it did not taste good. It tasted very chemically. It could be the syrups that they used. However, once we complained, they asked what drink I wanted to replace it with. I asked for the unsweetened tropical fruit tea and that was better. So that, makes me want to come back. We ordered the keto wrap. This was my first visit to Rekindle, and I came to buy bagels. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with those who think that rekindle's bagels are the best, they are NOT bagels, they are bagel-shaped rolls. Bagels must be boiled before they are baked in, which gives them that incredible crust, and that delicious chew These have not been boiled. So while they were tasty enough as bread, they didn't satisfy the need for a bagel! (As far as I'm concerned, nothing comes close to East Coast Bagels in Irvine; it's clear that I will have to drive there for all my future bagel runs.) The coffee, however, can be a bit hit or miss. They tend to have a heavy hand with the creamer and not enough ice, so the drinks end up pretty warm after a few minutes. This coffee spot slaps so hard my Mom called me to ask if I was okay after she heard I went here. I walked up to Rekindle a shade after the business closed. However, the staff here is so motivated they "re-opened" for 15 minutes merely to prepare an iced mocha and a s'more iced coffee for me and my Angel GF. The coffees came out on time, and they really slaked my thirst for deep dark caffeine fiend beans. Everyone on staff conducted themselves with utmost professionalism, and a manager explained that they make most all of the scones, coffee cakes, crumbles, and pies on site. The staff member at the cash register near the baked goods gifted my GF a free blueberry crumble to try. My GF is a study in gorgeous Latin looks & charms, so this happens a lot. Sometimes I have to ask people who want to donate luxury items or high end cuisine to her cause to form a line when we go out in public. Honestly, I've given this place multiple chances because it's on my way to work and I really wanted to support a women-owned business, but I leave disappointed every time. The drinks are extremely inconsistent. The lattes are either overly bitter and mostly milk, or they have a strong artificial syrup taste that's hard to enjoy. The pastries are hit or miss, the cookies are grainy and lack flavor, though I will say the croissants are good and generously sized. The online ordering system is also frustrating. Every time I place an order ahead, I still end up waiting 15+ minutes when I arrive, which defeats the purpose. On one visit, I was charged for a cookie that was out of stock, and the employee told me she couldn't issue a refund because she didn't know how. That shouldn't fall on the customer. I would say this place is just okay. It's a cute bakery and coffee shop right next to my house with a few parking spots right in the front. There are a couple spots to sit and study but I don't know if I would still be there personally because the seats are right on the parking lot area. The reason for three stars is because it's very overpriced for what you get. I got the Luck of the Irish matcha and it was very underwhelming. Almost $10 including a tip of a dollar and some change. I saw them make it, they filled it with ice, milk and syrup and left one inch to pour the matcha mixture in. You're basically paying just for milk and syrup. No cold foam, no extra special anything. Due to the price, I will not be returning to try other drinks to see if those drinks are better. Coffee or matcha shouldn't cost more than $6. They also trick you because there's no prices listed anywhere. I noticed that many coffee shops these days are not displaying the price which is definitely scammy behavior. Sure I could have asked but one doesn't assume that coffee is going to be almost $10 because that's a complete rip off. read more
