Came across this cafe while walking around the area, was a lovely and pleasant surprise! My friend had the caramel latte while I tried one of the Valentine's Day drinks, the strawberries n crème latte. He said his was pretty good. Mine was perfectly sweet, with a rich and creamy foam at the top. The strawberry flavor really carried through, and not in an artificial way either! Plus it was aesthetically pleasing! The staff were so attentive. Immediately upon entering, the employee at the register greeted us and took our order. One of the waitresses and I made eye contact, and we both complimented each other's hair at the same time haha, so cute! Another waitress checked on us while we were waiting for our to-go drinks. Cafe Zocalo was decent overall, but the biggest issue was definitely the wait time. The establishment seemed very understaffed, especially for a holiday weekend. You would think they would schedule more staff knowing they'd have a larger crowd. We waited over 30 minutes just to place our order, so definitely don't come here starving. The food itself was okay. I had the veggie burrito, which was pretty good. The salsas had good flavor, although they weren't spicy at all. My wife ordered the steak and eggs and said the steak was a bit tough and somewhat bland. I have visited this place before several times but my last visit to this place was on the weekend of Mother's Day of 2025. We were a group of 5. My wife and I walked in first and saw a few tables empty and I asked the cashier if we can sit at the table right across from him and he said yes. The rest of the party arrived and sat at our table. After about 10 minutes no one approached us to take our drink order so I walked up to the cashier and ordered drinks. Even after this It took a while for our server to come and take our order in. It's important to note that two of us ordered their cafe de olla. The server was on the younger side and I had not seen her before, my thought was that she was new. I recognized the rest of the staff. One gentleman was walking around and was handing out free roses. I think he is a server (awesome server). When the food came out, they brought all the plates except mine. I assumed it was coming but it never did. After waiting about 5 minutes I called our server over and let her know. I told her that they forgot to bring me my food. She went back to the kitchen and came out with another worker (the cook). They both stayed in the corner and were looking over at my table and pointing at us. This made me very uncomfortable, I don't understand why they needed to do this. If you forgot a plate then you remake it without making the customer uncomfortable. The server then walked back over and told me that the food was taking long because I ordered the carne asada. This really upset me. By this point my family had their food for about 10 minutes. If a plate will take longer then the server must let the customer know ahead of time. I said it was fine and didn't say anything else to her. Another 10 minutes went by and still no food. It was very obvious that they gave me an excuse of the carne asada when really they forgot to make the food. They lied to my face and tried to put the blame on me for ordering carne asada. I was very angry at this point but didn't complain. I got my food when everyone was already done but I ate it. The tipping point was towards the end when my mom and I asked for refills on our cafe de olla. First, they took a long time to bring them out. Second, they gave us regular coffee. When we told the server it was regular coffee she gave us, she responded that we were wrong because she poured it herself and it was cafe de olla. Indirectly, called us liars. We aren't ignorant, we know what cafe de olla tastes like. We ended up asking for the check. I left no tip and did not feel bad at all. I wasn't even looking for a discount on anything. All I wanted was for them to be accountable. They did not acknowledge they forgot to make my plate and lie about the carne asada and they did not give us our coffee for whatever reason. What a horrible experience. We have not been back and so have neither of my family. They need to train their servers and management should've stepped in and handled this. I have had good experiences before but I will never be back to this place. I'm sure they don't miss my business but if they continue with this bad service then eventually enough people will stop going to this place. read more

This is such an amazing surprise when we came in to have lunch today! I was looking for a new lunch spot and this place is amazing!!!! It's a must try brunch spot.... The chips are made in house, the green salsa was spectacular, my carne asada taco was moist, soft, cooked to perfection, hubby had a wet shredded beef burrito which he love so much that he can't stop talking about it.. They had a great selection of hot and cold coffees, I tried the Maya coffee that was just perfect and hubby had the Matzapan Cold coffee that was so good that I have to come again this week to have another one. The portions are huge! My enchiladas were so full of tender chicken and the verde sauce has just enough 'kick' for me. They were promptly served food and were actively eating while we sat there for over 20 minutes without anyone coming to take our order, offer water, or even acknowledge us. Watching people who arrived at the same time be fully served while we were completely ignored was frustrating and uncomfortable, so we left. We returned around 10:20 only because we wanted mimosas and this was the only nearby place we knew would serve them. We ordered inside, and the employee taking our order appeared extremely unfocused and disconnected. There were long pauses where she would stare at us without speaking, repeatedly lose her train of thought, and seem unsure of what she was doing. Cafe Zocalo is a very cute spot located in the Orange Circle. Since I got my hair done right around the corner, my better half and sweet child decided to meet me somewhere close. I took one look at Yelp and this was the place. We were lucky to get a beautiful booth inside on a fairly warm day. We ordered a Chilaquila breakfast burrito which was a breakfast burrito filled with Chilaquiles. We also ordered the 25 mini pancakes which were 25 little pancakes about the size of the quarter paired with strawberries in condensed milk with Nutella. Yelp check-in gets you a free Iced Horchata Latte and I can see what the hype is about. Their horchata is so delicious...a bit too rich for me and my stomach was rebelling but I did love it when I had it. The service was great and at no time did we ever really need anything as the staff were quite attentive. We'll be back and I'd love to try a sandwich or maybe just get the chilaquiles by themselves...the green salsa was so good it did not need to be wrapped in a tortilla. read more
