Now, this place is more a sandwich shop, with an assortment of snacks and drinks that emits an uncanny aura of Costco. That being said, this is a small family outfit. They were very patient with my questions. While all the specials sounded amazing, I opted for "Island Spice Escape," which they promised was NOT spicy (I am a wimp. It comes with jalapeños but I asked them to omit it.) IT WAS DELICIOUS. If you like Thai satay chicken, you will love this dish. I devoured the entire sandwich in minutes. The flavors and textures were perfectly balanced. They make your food fresh to order - no prepackaged, prewrapped, microwaved sandwiches here. Truly, the flavors were like umami explosions in my mouth. Will I be back to try all the different sandwiches? Yes to coming back, not sure if I will try another because this one is so freaking good. Having stopped by paradise cafe on a whim during my lunchtime walk, I was craving a banh mi sandwich and, in short, I was left a little underwhelmed. I want to set the scene a bit by saying that I loved the ambiance of a sandwich shop that is immediately adjacent to a parking garage so there isn't the ability to outside without risking getting hit by a car. They have many of these in New York City and having spent much time in the big apple so it actually kind of appealed to me. The staff at the front counter couldn't have been nicer as well. As for the food: I felt the $13 pre-tip price tag (I paid over $15 with tip) for a BBQ pork banh mi was a little pricy for what I ended up getting. Additionally, the roll was somewhat soggy on the edges. I appreciated the savoriness of the soy sauce (?) and the sweetness of the bbq pork however it was strange that in one bite I'd get 100% savoriness and in another bite I'd pick up 100% sweetness. I wished those sauces would've overlapped a bit and that there was more pork than came on the sandwich. With the amount of ingredients and the size of the sandwich I don't think they should've charged more than $10. I will definitely give this place another chance down the road and I wish them success as they get settled in to their location. read more

I decided to check out Paradise Cafe during my lunch break while serving jury duty at the court nearby. I am a vegan, so I was looking for a place with a vegan-friendly option. I ordered the Garden of Eden sandwich, which without modification is vegetarian. It is very simple to modify to be vegan-friendly, by removing cheese and if I remember correctly, mayonnaise, just be sure to ask the cashier! I also ordered an iced latte with oat milk. The sandwich was delicious! Veggies were fresh, the variety of veggies was very tasty, and it was quite flavorful. It was nicely filling and kept me satisfied for the rest of my service. No complaints about the latte! Service was very friendly, and I appreciated the discount for jury service. It was quite busy, so it took a bit long to get my food, but that was expected and the wait was nothing crazy. The cook did not get my order. The food was OK and not worth the $11 (before tax and tip). I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the amazingly affordable prices for high quality foods. We were looking for some healthy options in the area and came across Choices Cafe. I was taken aback quite a bit because the location is quite odd, there is parking in front but we literally drove passed it without noticing. The place is very hidden underneath a tall building and the shop is relatively small. We got a Veggie Sandwich, a Tuna Sandwich, and a Grilled Cheese. The tuna sandwich was great, my bf loves it. My Veggie Sandwich was not the best I've had but for the price ($3.45 through Grubhub) and quality, it's so worth it. I wished it was toasted. The grilled cheese was not bad, just a bit dry. I love how you can customize whatever goes in your sandwich. I had walked in to pick up soup and a smoothie when the man behind the counter asks if I want a sample of their new food. I said sure expecting a toothpick with meat of some sort. I've been working for the Courts for over five years, and this location has gone through many tenants. While there are many choices in the downtown area, there aren't that many options near the courthouse within a 5 minute walking distance. With that said, I'm glad Choices Cafe has opened. It's really great for nearby staff and those on jury duty. Choices is a cafe with some convenience store items and a simple menu with breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. The prices are extremely fair (you can get a sandwich combo with chips and soda for only $7), and the sandwich is solid. I got the roast beef sandwich combo, and all of the ingredients were very fresh - it definitely gets the job done.
