please upgrade your coffee, it is diluted and bland, you will get more customers to go to your kitchen rather than starbucks.

Artist Village Cafe: Birthday Breakfast Review…read more Formerly The Den, and before that the OG Gypsy Den, Artist Village Cafe has some serious Santa Ana history and apparently we brought all that history with us because the wait was LONG. We came in for a birthday breakfast and eventually got our food... emphasis on eventually. I went with the avocado toast + sunny-side-up egg, someone else ordered the breakfast sandwich with fruit which was served with grilled peach that we mistook for potatoes (yum). Everyone else went for the breakfast burrito, so we basically covered the breakfast menu. The verdict? Food was okay. Portions were pretty standard: not skimpy, but definitely not "I need a nap after this" generous. The churro latte, though? Yummy! That one understood the assignment. The dirty horchata was just okay, nothing to write home about. Overall, a cute spot with plenty of character and nostalgia, but the long wait made it hard to get overly excited about the meal. Maybe we caught them on a slow morning but at 8:30am we were the first ones to arrive ... but maybe breakfast just needed to marinate a little longer. Would I go back? Probably but next time, I'm ordering the churro latte first. and make sure you don't need to be anywhere afterwards.

I got the starving artist special for 10$ and caramel flan for dessert. They don't serve alcohol yet but hopefully soon! Starving Artist Special- This is such a great deal! You get crispy bacon, eggs your way, breakfast potatoes which were perfectly seasoned and crisp, and sourdough toast with a side of homemade whipped butter and jam. Everything is fresh and tasty and just what I needed in the morning. Caramel Flan- Soft and custardy with just the right amount of sweetness. Topped with whipped cream. Perfect way to end the meal. Great experience overall!

To locate the restaurant, go up the stairs on the side. Happy hour is every day, 4-6PM The drinks are good and they have a good selection of beers and cocktails. You order at the bar and the service is quick. The food, however, is underwhelming. Regular fries are not great but the Cajun fries are better. Fries are enough to feed 2-3 people. The chicken tenders on the other hand are very small, and you get more sauce than chicken. The good thing about it is that the food was cheaper during happy hour. Some of the chairs/benches were uncomfortable, but overall, sitting outside is nice.

I grabbed a blonde (#3 on tap) and it was smooth, refreshing, and perfect after a long, stressful Friday at work being short-staffed and drowning with patients. Came in just needing to decompress--met up with a friend, grabbed a booth, and just chilled. The whole place has a very laid-back, local vibes, rooftop. Nothing over-the-top, just good energy and a spot where you can actually sit and talk. I didn't try the food this time, but I asked someone at the bar and they said it's really good--so that's definitely next on my list. Parking is right behind the spot in a structure, which was super convenient. First hour is free, then about $1.75 after that, but no validation--so just plan ahead. I kept it quick since I wasn't trying to turn one drink into a $15 parking night for just one beer. Bartenders were friendly and attentive--they checked in, cleared our glasses, and let us do our thing. No pressure, just good service. Overall, it's a chill, local hangout with solid beer and a relaxed atmosphere. I'll definitely be back--next time for the food and a longer stay. Oh btw, One of the bartenders did confirm that they have happy hour all day on Mondays, I'll be back on a Monday.

The high ceilings, rustic exposed brick, and massive bar setup make for an electric atmosphere when it's packed out with a rowdy crowd. Even when they're slammed for game days, the kitchen holds its own. The duck fat fries are pretty much mandatory for the table--super crispy, well-seasoned, and easy to pick at while drinking. Their empanadas, lumpia, and burgers are also solid, easy crowd-pleasers to pair with a huge craft beer list or one of their whiskey cocktails. Because the energy is so high during watch parties, service can understandably take a little longer than a normal quiet lunch, but the staff handles the game-day rush really well and keeps the drinks flowing. Parking in downtown Santa Ana can be hit-or-miss with meters, but slipping into the Sycamore parking structure right across the street saves you from driving in circles. If you're looking for a dependable gastropub with great food that actually knows how to throw a hype watch party, Chapter One is hard to beat.

For food, I had the veggie omelet and the guava pancakes, and both were delicious! Everything was fresh and well-made. I'd highly recommend both items. With it being a small place, one thing that stood out was that our food came out late. We were told it was because there was a large order placed when our order was placed. That was fine. No big deal but not too long after we finished eating and paid for our food, we were being rushed off so that the table could be used for the next guest. We understood but my thought was now we are being rushed when our food came out pretty late. I thought they forgot about us. But it wasn't an issue. We gathered our things and left. We completely understood and they were really polite about letting us know it was time to leave. Another thing I would like to see done, when they are able, is a makeover for the restroom. I was hesitant, not because of the looks but because there is only one bathroom and I couldn't figure out if the door was locked or not Once you go, if you visit before the knob is changed, you'll understand what I mean. Overall, I'd go back. It was good and the people there were really cool.
