Dropped off my partner at UC Irvine early this morning, so early that we didn't have time to make coffee at home, so I ventured in unknown territory to try some local brews. A mere 1.3 miles away, I find this eight year old coffee shop that has its name origins from the German word for bread. Evidently, they have a plethora of baked foods mainly consisting of flour, water and often yeast displayed in full display next to the counter. I asked one of the staff if the shop makes their own bread and she said a local artisan bakery supplies them. They look amazing and they even have gluten-free options! This is a family-owned business that provides a more than suitable area for working on your laptop with WiFi access, or simply enjoying your favorite hot or cold caffeinated beverage, oh, and I must mention that they have premium blends as well for the coffee aficionado! Spacious indoor area that doesn't feel cramped and the exposed ceiling vents, the jazzy beats that is playing at a perfect volume and plenty of potted plants give it a balanced chill industrial vibe. There are tables outside too that's perfect for early morning or late afternoon when it's not too hot. I ordered the Vanilla Latte hot and asked that they fill up my insulated mug instead of the cardboard cup. Even with the steady stream of patrons, I received my expertly prepared brew by their hirsute barista, who gave me "beard envy" (I can only sport a goatee) :D The crew are friendly, conversing with the regulars. I can tell they enjoy working here! I don't come to Orange very often but would definitely grab coffee here again if I'm in the area and would highly recommend this place. My friend and I both ordered the iced mocha, and unfortunately, it was just okay. It tasted a bit watered down and could have used a stronger chocolate and espresso flavor. Wasn't worth the price in my opinion. The cafe itself is spacious, with plenty of seating both indoors and out on the patio. I also noticed several tables with conveniently placed outlets, making it a nice spot for studying or getting some work done. During my visit, there were quite a few people working on their laptops, so it seems to be a popular place to settle in for a while. As for the service, it wasn't particularly warm or welcoming. One of the baristas accidentally dropped something, creating a loud noise, and she was visibly frustrated and seemed like she didn't wanna be there which affected the overall atmosphere. read more

DRINK: I got their seasonal Blue latte (tea latte), I cried on the inside for the taste being a 2/5 for like 6 bucks. It was bitter and a bit bland. SERVICE: Not warm at all, as someone who is in the service industry, I get it but would've been nice to have experienced a sprinkle of kindness. Really friendly customer service and the toast and drinks here are all top tier. Had the seasonal iced pumpkin spice latte and the iced golden latte and both were nice and usually golden lattes can be hit or miss but I really enjoyed mine. The espresso is full bodied but not bitter or too bold. My dad tried the Italian cappuccino versus the regular and we both agreed the Italian cappuccino is worth paying a little more for. The toast is very fluffy and the cinnamon swirl is perfect even with just butter. The seating is comfortable and spacious and the bathroom is clean. You can tell the owner is passionate about their craft and that the people who work here really love what they do! read more

I've been here twice now and I think I can fairly review at this point. This place is an A plus in my book. The first time, I had a hot caramel latte (to go) and was thoroughly pleased. I'm very picky with coffee. There's is not bitter, whatsoever. Very smooth and flavorful. Currently, my second time, I'm dining in. I got an iced caramel latte, which is a delicious as I remembered, and an avocado toast w/ egg and tomato. Again, I'm very hard to impress- I admit it! But even their avocado toast was delicious! I tried their matcha even though they are known for their coffee and didn't love the matcha. It was very milk heavy, and there was not much matcha flavor. The sweetness was good. Service was very fast and nice. Love that the cafe has lots of seating inside, so it would be a good place to study or work. They also have lots of bread you can buy, which looked very good. The host was very sweet in answering all our questions.its very hard to find Gluten free bread in restaurants, so when I read the comments on Yelp I was so excited to try Brot. Oh boy, their cranberry pecan gluten free toast with cream cheese was absolutely delicious. My wife had the T.O.M on gluten free sourdough and her first bite was Divine! Oh look, another coffee shop for me to check out! Brot is located close to Main Place mall so you can grab a little treat on your way to do some shopping! Inside is somewhat rustic/trendy with natural wood finishes and lots of seating for a small place. Parking is easy with a shared parking lot. As always, I was delighted to learn that they offer decaf coffee options. I grabbed a decaf iced vanilla latte, a classic, and also decided to try the T.O.M. with avocado. This is a toast creation that consists of rustic country bread, butter, olive oil, sliced tomatoes, diced mozzarella, and some seasonings. It seemed that they were a little short staffed today; there were 3 people working but the line was a bit slow. It wasn't a problem but I could feel the energy from the staff that maybe they were feeling the pressure. My drink was great; delicious, deep roasty coffee flavor without being heavy on the milk and sugar! Easily one of the better decaf coffees I have had. Maybe my taste buds are biased, but I could not tell by taste alone that this was decaf. The toast was awesome! The olive oil was such a nice touch. This was nearly caprese but not quite. Soft bread with a chewy crust, fresh tomatoes and avocado, and a punch of tasty olive oil to round it out. The perfect complement to my drink. They had a few options of bread loaves you can buy; someone was in there raving to another customer about the cinnamon loaf, which got me excited to try it! Maybe next time. Brot Coffee was, what seemed like the closest coffee near our hotel being only a mile away but they were further than we expected. It is a small and quaint little corner coffee shop. I came around 9 am and it was already bustling with customers on a Friday morning. The place is cozy and inviting, tables to sit at and large windows inviting sunlight in the morning. The shop is adorned with plenty of indoor plants to brighten up the space. It felt cozy and like I was stepping into my neighbor's home. So to call them the neighborhood coffee shop is rightfully so. I saw a sign for their November and December specials. For November it was the maple rosemary latte and December was the gingerbread spice latte. I tried to order the November special in case they had any leftover but they didn't. I came a few weeks too late. Instead, I got the December special in a small with oat milk and half sweet. Also saw a case of pastries and bread that looked delicious but I was only in the mood for coffee. The small gingerbread spice latte was small indeed. I had requested for half sweet and it was just right. It had the right amount of spice and not too sweet. It's a pretty good holiday drink. Also found it fun that whenever a customer comes in, the baristas also like to do a fun welcome greeting. If I had more time, I would have loved to stay a bit to soak in the atmosphere. Yo, this is the spot!!!! Anytime I travel, I try to find that perfect coffee shop. The shop that has cool peeps on the bar, friendly faces at the register. Locally owned and operated is my jam and this is my new favorite shop. I found them on my way to our office, while visiting from up North. I was blown away when I saw the fresh loaves of delicious sourdough bread. I ordered sourdough toast with butter, and it felt a bit odd, ngl. But man, as a sourdough bread honk, I was impressed.  I went with a Cortodo and it was definitely a coffee forward beverage. The espresso is strong, flavorful, and not bitter at all! Absolutely fantastic first drink. I went back at the end of the week to grab some whole beans for my coworkers, had an espresso shot, and of course, more sourdough toast! They have a wonderful selection of toppings, but, I just couldn't resist fresh bread with a giant nob of butter! Espresso shot is served with sparkling water, to cleanse the pallet and provide a vibrant refresher. Exceptional coffee, crafted very well, and such a fun place to chill and enjoy a beverage.  A lady who is obviously a regular was telling the entire shop about her trip to the ATL and I felt right at home. I've passed by this coffeeshop many times and I'm so glad I finally gave it a try. I got an iced vanilla latte which had the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. I love that they offer non dairy alternatives - they have almond, macadamia, and oat milk options. I also had to try a toast since it looks like they make their bread in-house. I decided to try the iced Mexican mocha from their seasonal menu--and it did not disappoint. Next time I'd add just a touch more sugar, but that's purely my preference. I appreciate this coffee shop to open later than they're closing time. Came in 15 minutes before closing and they were packed. I was excited and they offer seasonal menu as well, but since I'm not a big fan of rosemary, I just got their vanilla latte with less sweet. Their coffee is so strong. I love it! I will come back to try their Matcha latte next time. There's plenty of parking in the plaza even though plaza is not that big. On our ever continuing journey through the coffee houses of Orange County we decided to check out Brot coffee. Let me start with this place is a jewel of a surprise so unassuming outside but once your inside you will be happy you came. The owner and staff are amazing and the prices are so good. This place makes bread onsite that is so delightful and nutritious. They sacrifice nothing in the prep to presentation to taste. The TOM toast was so good that it is now on our top ten list and we will be back! The caramel latte is was perfect in every way and my wife got the regular coffee and was extremely satisfied with the quality of the roast. The bread variety is off the charts and we got an amazing country loaf that weighs a couple of pounds for ten bucks! GOOD COFFEE BEANS (4.5 stars) Not from the area but stumbled upon this coffee shop while attending an event nearby. The place seemed very popular among the locals and the place was quite packed but there were seats available - but not many. They had their own small roasted in the back. There will likely be a line to get your order - it moves at a decent paste. My decaf vanilla latte was quickly made (not sure if that's a good or bad thing) and it tasted fine when I got it. I couldn't really identify any notes from the beans because the vanilla syrup glossed over everything but can recall not having any acidic nor burnt taste - that's a good thing. On a trip to Orange, I was so happy to find a little hidden gem that ha Brot Coffee--it's in a mini mall location, but it has a lot of charm and the people there really make it feel so comfortable and inviting! I wandered over to Brot on a Saturday morning for coffee and some of their fresh bread (Yum!). When I came in, the workers were friendly and welcomed me (and all the guests that came in). I could tell there were a lot of regulars coming in, some even the families of those working behind the counter. There was an inside seating area with a lot of plants, but there is also a side alley seating area for those nice mornings in Orange! When I got up to the counter, I ordered their drink special, the Spicy Mocha iced, which was very good. I also ordered a slice of the French toast bread, toasted with butter. First time here, stopped by after a workout class in the area and needed a place to study. Overall the inside is very big and I was easily able to find a seat to study. Staff is really nice. I can see why this place is so busy in the mornings! Came by today and grabbed some coffee and toast, there's plenty of indoor seating and the staff is all so friendly. I was a little skeptical about the long line, but was so impressed with how quick things moved and how fast we were served considering the crowd. I like how this coffee spot can seem like a regular coffee spot from the outside, and you can easily pass it by; however, don't let it stop you from checking it out. The aesthetic inside is spacious and there is seating outside of the establishment. It's very relaxing and so nice inside. I ordered their Iced Caffé Mocha with regular milk and no whipped cream. It was smooth and yummy. You can taste the mocha come through. I also ordered their EAT Toast, which has mashed avocado over I believe their homemade bread, and then tomato over that and topped it off with a sliced boiled egg and all these yummy seasonings on top. Every bite better than the last. It was that good. I did take it to go and I found myself enjoying every bite and flavor coming through of all that on the toast and didn't even participate in my friend's conversations. I just listened while enjoying my yummy breakfast treat. I'm eager to try some other things on their menu. And they also serve seasonal items which I'd like to try as well. I'm glad it's within my city and not so far away. This place is nice as well for doing schoolwork or working from your laptop, reading and enjoying with family and friends. We stopped by Brot. The name "brot" means bread in German and very appropriate. I walked in seeing loaves of fresh baked bread available for purchase. A sandwich station busy when three staff's assembly work!!! Brot is hidden from view on the busy street and located in plaza close to two major hospitals. Surprisingly, the cafe is SUPER busy on a drizzle Sunday morning. The cafe has plenty of seatings inside and outside. I also like part of the outdoor seating area have a partition (a gate) to close in for patrons that have a dog. You are quickly greeted by the main barista. The line moves fast so don't be despair standing 7 people deep. There are great selections of bread and good monthly seasonal drinks. The month of November is Maple Rosemary Latte. The "toast of the month" is figgy maple bread! I'm impressed half of patrons came in also ordered an open face style bread with BYO ingredients. We tried the vanilla latte and November (maple rosemary latte) drinks. Both are good but coffee wasn't as strong as I would had liked. This is arguably the BEST coffee shop in OC !!! I've been coming here for a few years now and the staff are beyond friendly and the managers are always greeting you. Once you become a regular they will greet you by your name which says a lot about them. Idk what magical coffee beans they use but it's seriously good coffee. None of that Starbucks sugary bs.
