First time at this place and service was great! As soon as we walked in we were welcomed!! I ordered a Flat white with oat milk and a Cafe mocha with oat milk. The Flat white was super hot I couldn't really drink it. It was okay but wasn't great. The Cafe mocha was not my favorite felt so watery. This place has so much seating indoor and outdoor! While visiting from Chicago, I found this gem and it became my daily go to while in Cali. The staff is absolutely incredible, my hot caramel macchiato was the best I've ever had. In fact, I took their espresso beans back home with me. The barista as nice enough to roast them for me while I waited. The ambiance is very comfy and cozy. I've been to Brot Coffee a few times in the past, but was recently in the area with a couple of hours to kill before an event. Parking out front is always a bit cramped, but have never had a problem finding a spot. In the late afternoon, there were plenty of open seats and tables. I ordered a hot chai latte and the TOM toast. The butter and bread itself was so flavorful and delicious that I almost ordered a second piece of toast just with butter! That chai was warm and spicy and hit the spot. I was able to get a good amount of work in while I was at Brot with a stable wifi connection and ample outlets. People come and go so I might recommend some noise-canceling headphones if you get distracted easily by all the hustle and bustle. The service was also unremarkable - the staff is not rude, but gave very "a job is a job" type of vibes. Brot does close shop pretty early compared to other nearby coffee shops, so while I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, it is a nice treat when you happen to find yourself in the area. read more

My weekly cafe tour 2024 continues on and this week I decided to stay close to home! I've been in the city of orange for 2.5 years and like many others, I have noticed this coffee shop while driving by but never made the effort to stop by until today. I am glad I did. In terms of parking, it is a busy parking lot but part of the reason is because lanes in front of the business are only one way. However, I found parking in the front pretty easily. Upon walking in, they have tables on the side of the building for you to use. Before entering I was hoping there would be a table to sit at to study and I was glad there were some spots open even though the shop was quite busy. When I ordered I asked a few questions since it was my first time. I asked for the sweetest coffee and was recommended the caramel latte. I'm not a big fan of caramel but I decided to try it since it was recommended but of course I asked for extra ice. I also tried their January special, the cinnamon brulee toast and the TOM toast. I wanted something both savory and sweet. Once I got all my items I tried them and im happy to say they were all good. Coffee was sweet just how I like it and the coffee flavor was just right. The TOM was simple but delicious. Its just toast with butter, olive oil, tomatoes, mozzarella, and some seasonings. This dish reminds me that often times the most simple foods are the most tasty. Love it! The cinnamon toast was also delicious. I ate half of it and saved the other half for a snack later on during the day. If there was any room for improvement I would say if they made their whipped cream in house (which i dont think they do), it would elevate the experience that much more. Service was decent, food is simple yet enjoyable. Ambiance is an A+. Lots of tables. I am also going through my toast era and am very tempted to buy a loaf of bread from here before I leave. ;) read more

Given the name "Brot" (German for "bread"), it's as much a bakery as it is a coffee shop. Sourdough, rye, even challah! And on Saturday, they usually have Kouign Amann available as well. Their coffee/espresso offerings are solid, of course, but their toasts, homemade jams, and friendly/mellow staff are what really stand out and keep me coming back. This was my second time visiting this coffee shop and am still impressed with the quality of their bread! It's a clean taste and doesn't feel too heavy either. I ordered the T.O.M with the rosemary and garlic bread instead of the Italian bread. Also got tomatoes on the side for my mom to eat since I'm allergic to tomatoes. I requested light sweet on the matcha latte and it tasted as if there was no sugar (which wasn't a dealbreaker for me) so I assume the regular amount of sugar is not sweet either (a plus considering how many cafes over-sweeten their drinks). As for the bigger sized drink in the photo, it's a large hot americano which we weren't a fan of because it was too acidic. All of the workers are nice and friendly and provided extra utensils and water promptly upon request. The one downside is that it took awhile to get our food order. Got tired of driving by and saying "I'm gonna check this place out" and am very glad I made the decision to drop in. Brot has achieved the concept of an authentically rustic coffee shop in terms of both decor and drink quality. Seating isn't too hard to find and it's pretty sizable, which doesn't appear obvious from the outside. All of the baristas are so kind and well-informed of the menu and helped me finalize my choices of an iced maple rosemary latte and E.A.T. toast on garlic rosemary toast. Food and drink came out in less than 10 minutes. Maple Rosemary Latte: Like other reviews suggest, Brot definitely uses coffee flavorings to accentuate the taste of the coffee rather than mask it - neither the maple nor the rosemary particularly stood out, instead adding another layer of subtle complexity to the coffee. E.A.T. Toast: highly recommend get this on the garlic rosemary toast. The sweet and earthy tomato and avocado offer a great contrast to the heavier taste of egg and butter on the toast, and the smattering of various seasonings rounds off the dish really nicely. I am disappointed that the coffee shop named brot (German for bread) coffee does not make their own bread. I came for the bread, but stayed for the coffee I guess. Coffee is good. Really well made lattes. Good balance between the milkiness and the coffee in which neither flavors overpower each other. I stopped by Brot Coffee to grab a quick drink and ended up leaving with a loaf of bread because of how good it looked. We got a blended iced coffee and iced matcha latte for our drinks. The blended iced coffee had a great consistency and was not too sweet. The iced matcha latte had a high quality matcha but the drink itself was a little too milky which drowned out the flavor of the matcha. As for the bread, I got a sourdough loaf which was well baked but didn't have as much of a sourdough taste as I wanted. I asked the very nice lady behind the register if the pbnj was filling, and she confidently said yes. So, I quickly ordered it with my latte. When it came time to pick up my order, the to-go box had no weight, whatsoever. I get home, open the box, and immediately had to take a picture. First thought, "filling to who?? o.0". Lmao oh, forgot to say the pbnj in the picture is $5.25. The caramel latte is $5.10...and more filling. I would give them a 3star, but this caramel latte is so damn good. My wait time was about 10-15 minutes for my food and coffee. Typically like to try the specials and most popular items first so decided to go with the egg salad toast (April special) and iced vanilla latte. Egg salad toast, 5/10 The egg salad was pretty bland and the choice of bread was really thick for the amount of filling there was. The butter lettuce was there for the aesthetics but added nothing for texture/crunch. Wish I ordered one of the make your own toasts! Will definitely try to do one of these if I come back. Iced Vanilla Latte, 8/10 The coffee was rich and vanilla wasn't too sweet. Nothing exceptional but a decent, strong iced coffee. The inside is pretty spacious and has a slick ambience. There are outlets conveniently placed by tables if you're looking for a place to work at. So then I had the taste of burnt coffee with a rush of sugar to the dome. The service was terrible. I came late October and asked the cashier if they had a pumpkin latte. She seemed annoyed and redirected me to their menu. In a rush I ordered a Pumpkin Latte. Side note, as I walked over to grab my drink I told the barista that was enough pumps of the syrup. He replied: Next time say that when you order. I was taken back by both the cashier and barista attitude. Regardless, I had already paid. You'd think I'm saving them their syrup. Their tables are sticky/dirty. Even if you sit inside they serve their drinks in basic plastic cups. You'd expect them to actually serve you in real latte cups or glass. I didn't know what to get because their December specials was out of season, so I asked the barista what she recommended and it looked like she was not having it. I was patiently waiting for someone to come to the register for a while to take my order and I was approached with this negative attitude. I didn't act rude or act obnoxious so I did not know why I was treated like that. But the barista just recommended me the caramel coffee just because I asked for something a bit sweet and that drink was way too sweet.
