I have worked at the Santa Ana Civic Center for 10+ years, and Paper Cup has been my coffee go-to for quite some time. After replacing Dante's, a local staple, Paper Cup had big shoes to fill. However, they have gone above and beyond the last couple of years. The selection is always great, and the seasonal drinks are a fun addition. The owner is always very kind and makes an effort to make you feel welcome. Not to mention the fair pricing compared to some other coffee shops in the area. The Honey Lavender latte is super flavorful, and the espresso is always at the sweet spot - the double shot definitely picks me up in the morning. Starting with the drink, I thought it was very bland and the coffee seemed a bit watered through. It was around $7 i think and the cold foam was extra. It was overall an OK drink. Did I finish all of it? Yes. Would I get it again? Probably not. There was a parking structure that I parked in for free when i visited, and there was also street parking which was full. Found this gem on my first day of jury duty at the Santa Ana courthouse and never looked back. I visited Papercup Coffee three times during my service and loved everything. The cardamom and tiramisu lattes were delicious, with a perfect balance of flavor that didn't overpower the coffee. The cold brew was remarkably smooth yet strong. Owner runs the store front and is very welcoming and seemed excited to talk about the food when I asked about recommendations. Ambience is great for a 90 min lunch to work remote. Generally agreeable music and lots of space. As for food and drink: Day 1- Turkish coffee and pie. I took the owners recommendation to have a little sugar with coffee(normally drink black) and definitely worth it. It is very bold and heavily extracted coffee, but the touch of sugar brought out some nice baking spice notes. As a pie lover, that is not what I would have expected from a pie. That said, it was very good if you like herb forward flatbreads. I'd order again. Day 2- Oat milk cortado and hummus sandwich. Hummus sandwich was great. Fresh tasting veggies, bread was toasted nicely. Simple dish and done well. Cortado was well done. Bold dark roast taste profile. I enjoyed it. Think 2nd wave if you're a coffee nerd. Followed up with a maple butter latte before I finished lunch for a sweet treat and extra push through the afternoon. I don't particularly reach for sweet/flavored coffee, and this was absolutely perfect for me. She did offer to sweeten it more, so if sweet is your thing then you may want an extra splash of syrup. First time trying this place today. Contrary to all the modern coffee shops that exist today, this place has a vintage, old school feel which I love. It has plenty of seating and a selection of books that you can read while you sip on your drink. Ordered a couple Sage Brown Sugar Lattes with a Man'oushi cheese Pie. It was also my first time trying this "cheese pie" - to my disappointment, it was basically pita bread with melted cheese and herbs. It looked very basic but it ended up being actually pretty good. I finally had the chance to try Papercup coffee the other day and it was amazing! The coffee was excellent- 10/10. I ordered the iced Spanish latte and the iced tiramisu latte with oat milk. Their Spanish latte is one of the best I've ever tried. You get the bold flavor of the espresso but also some sweetness and cinnamon in there. The tiramisu latte was also wonderful. You can taste the delicious tiramisu flavor as well as the espresso. I love the cold foam they add on top as well. Their avocado toast was also 10/10! Super yummy with thick bread, plenty of avocado, small cherry tomatoes, crumbled feta cheese, and olive oil drizzled on top. The café itself was lovely! There are plenty of seating areas throughout. The place reminds me of a greenhouse and it has a really cute vintage vibe. Some of their furniture looks Victorian and it was also very clean inside. The cashier was warm and welcoming. I just wish the place was open a little later on Saturdays. On Saturdays, it's open from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday it's open from 7:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. I parked in the metered street parking nearby. The Civic Center Plaza Towers' public parking garage is $2 per 30 min. If you purchase $10+ at the cafe, you can get a validation sticker for up to 3 hours. The garage entrance is on North Parton. There's also street parking if you can find it! I saw about 2 outlets on the side of the cafe, so I highly recommend arriving topped up if you plan on cramming/working here. The chairs are cozy give off grandma's dining table vibes, unlike the hard plastic seats that you typically find at new, modern-style cafes. This is such a huge consideration when choosing a cafe to work in for a few hours. The atmosphere is still warm & inviting, and the tables by the side window allow you to get some much needed sun in the winter. There is a little library with a variety of books from comics to Shakespeare. I appreciate cozy, home-y atmospheres like this and wish there were more like this cafe. Feta & mozzarella boreka (5.0) Perfect for savory, salty pastry lovers. It takes about 10 min because it arrives to you freshly baked. It's her homemade puff pastry with salty feta and creamy mozzarella. I really want to try the potato & mushroom one now! Sage brown sugar latte (4.5) I was worried that the brown sugar would overpower the sage, but this late was pleasantly bittersweet! The owner is so sweet and kind, she helped recommend pastries as they had such a wide selection from traditional pastries to middle eastern pastries. This is my favorite coffee shop in DTSA. My go to is an iced americano and it's excellent here. The espresso bean used here is top tier. Strong and bold without any bitter aftertaste. The perfect pick me to get through the work day. Papercup Coffee also has the best avocado toast in the county.
