I visited Moses Bread yesterday. I've been here twice now. It's a small little mom-and-pop shop. There are two signages: 1. One that says Moses Bread 2. The other sign that says "only four ingredients fermented" To me that's a bold statement and it's pretty incredible that they can produce high-quality product with just four ingredients. The signage says the four ingredients are: - water - sea salt - bread flour - yeast With that they developed some of the most incredible sourdough bread I've ever had. They do different variations where they have: - I got the fig and walnuts - they have cranberries - they have tomatoes All of these different flavors but the main bread ingredients are just four ingredients. It's a very unassuming shop, very simple inside. The system to order is a little complicated but you should pre-order online. If you order in person there might not be much left because most of the items are already reserved. What a lucky find here. This was the first time for me to ever eat pure sourdough bread without any preservatives or bleached flour. I bought 3 loaves and of course I couldn't wait to get home to try a piece and ate some on the way home and easily this was the best tasting sourdough bread I've ever eaten. Best sourdough I've had in Orange County! Moses bread is located in Santa Ana in a small mall. They only sells limited amount of bread so highly recommend ordering online ahead of time. I got the blue cheese and fig boule one online ($9.50) can customize up to two flavors. Since we picked up around 09:30 AM there were some bread left so we got a sourdough loaf ($11). The owner is super friendly and told us about the history of their place, Both breads were super fresh fluffy on inside crunchy exterior , can tell they only use minimal ingredients. The blue cheese and fig one you can taste both but not too powerful. Overall a little pricy but worth a splurge. Would love to try the baguette my next visit! read more

The best thing is to order it online a day or two before. This business is a mom and Pop shop. Hard-working couple and they keep the place clean. The BEST sourdough bread you will ever have. I've tried a lot of the different varieties offered and my go-to is the XL loaf. It has a crispy exterior and a soft, airy interior. A bit pricey at $16.25 aaand it's still worth it. I do think the online ordering system is quite difficult because who can remember to order bread 2-3 days before picking up?? And also I'm still willing to jump through all the hoops to get my hands on this bread. I've said this to Moses already but I wish they'd sell the starter! This place is something special. It's owned and operated by this couple that's passionate about sourdough bread. You can order two days in advance or they also have same-day ordering. Their online system starts at 9am and the bread gets sold out quickly! After I ordered, I went to pick it up and there was a sign that said they're out of bread unless you ordered it online. They also have a dehydrated mother starter but I haven't tried that yet. I have tried the sourdough boule and the rosemary boule and both were amazing. So after my initial visit last week where I just bought the plain sour dough because everything else was reserved by the time I arrived only 30 minutes before closing - So I decided to place my order ahead of time via the website (you order 2 days in advance). I ordered: Boule Fig Boule Blue Cheese 6 bagels Rustic Loaf - Olive AND Rosemary (I paid for 2 flavors) The prices were very reasonable considering the high end quality of ingredients. The Rustic Loaf was AMAZING! I loved the blend of the olive and rosemary flavors and the bread was that perfect combination of slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They also have a XL loaf that is larger than this and the Boules are smaller and rounder. Both the Fig and Blue Cheese Boules had a generous amount of real figs and blue cheese chunks in them respectively. I think I like the Rustic Loaf style better than the Boule because my favorite part is the fluffy interior and there was more of that on the Rustic Loaf. The sour dough bagels were delicious and great to eat plain or also yummy toasted with cream cheese. I will definitely be ordering bread from Moses Bread again in the future - very soon at that since it was delicious and so well made! read more

I appreciate that is that it is a small mom and pop shop, and I am very happy and proud to have patronized their business, I've had my fair share of sourdough breads. They do get my vote on the customer service portion. I see the love & care for their products. I was not especially impressed with the sourdough bagel. Perhaps if I had gotten it first off when they've been made? It was a tad on the dry side. Must admit, the loaf, yes, at $9.99 per loaf was a little steep-but I understand the concept of the fresh & limited ingredients, no preservatives , etc. I do not mind paying for something if it'll a full on 5 star taste. I was really looking to have that pronounced "tang" or "sour" that it's supposed to be have. As soon as I got home, I placed the paper bag in a sealed plastic bag to retain its freshness. I lightly toasted it the next day & it was actually pretty good with a little bit of butter. It did lack a little of moisture though. I've tasted Boudins' when we've visited the factory in San Francisco, nice tang & you can smell it!! I've tasted Old Town, even the day old bread (Gilroy Garlic Sourdough is a must!!!). It's hard to compete from well established entities but I admire the passion that Moses Bread has for their products. I'm glad to have tried it. read more

Saw this place mentioned on a local news coverage regarding new minimum wage law. It's a business run by husband & wife and they expressed concern that it would be difficult to hire workers when the new minimum wage law goes into effect. Seeing the story made me want to support this business, so decided to look them up on Yelp. Although I rarely eat sourdough bread, I had to give it a try based on all the positive reviews. If this place only makes sourdough bread, I figured it's gotta be good. This place keeps it extremely simple. All breads are made with just four ingredients - flour, sea salt, water, and wild yeast. No artificial ingredients or chemicals are used. They do have few items with added variation like olive oil, cranberry, and fig, but main staples are just plain sourdough breads in different shapes and forms. I grabbed a loaf of its plain bread (sliced) and four bagels. I realize it's very simple (almost to the point of being boring), but my whole family loved them. The bread just tasted very clean and natural. The crust was tough but the inside was very soft and slightly chewy. I recommend heating them up in a toaster for better texture, but was fine eating them at room temperature. I ate four slices of the loaf and a bagel in just one sitting. I like it that much. If you get here early enough, you may be able to grab some items without having to preorder, but it's probably best to order ahead. Website is a little funky and I had a hard time using it, but eventually got around to it. For the newbies, order online before showing up. That way you're coming in for what you came for. The menu is simple. I ordered on Monday. And my bread wouldn't be ready to pick up til Thursday (close on Wed/Sun) they open at 9am. I tell them my name and he had it written down and got my order. I tore into that thing right away. I saw a TikTok on a bread shop back east and all of a sudden had a craving for sourdough and this was the closest bread shop that I never knew existed. It's a small shop and it's closer to the border of Santa Ana/Tustin. I walked in on a Friday afternoon and there were a team of people in the back working on bread. An older gentleman came to the register to help. I ordered a olive sourdough and a sourdough baguette and was set. I immediately ate the baguette and it was delicious. It had a chewy middle and nice crust on the outside. The olive bread was also delicious and it had a few olives in every bite but wasn't overpowered with olives. I'd definitely stop by here to pick up breads to take with me to Temecula if I was doing a day at the wineries. It's a small shop, but worth the trip for excellent bread. read more
