We started with the bread basket, and the rolls were so soft and fresh that we ended up ordering another one. Not sure is that worked though since GARs are notoriously great places to work. :) As for food, I don't care how old I get, the chicken tenders are a forever favorite, but their Cajun pasta is my absolute favorite thing on the menu. Also, don't sleep on the Ozzie rolls, and when it's on the menu the crab Louie is incredible. My husband is obsessed with their burger - that's actually his baseline for any restaurant we eat at now. It's a huge space, and they do get really busy, but they take reservations, so it's usually not a problem getting a table. Highly recommend if you are in the area. I wish we had GARs in NC. I miss them so much! Bonus: they are really good with allergies and picky eaters.

It's standard American fare, a bit on the pricier side, teetering between casual and upscale. Since we made reservations in advance, we were seated immediately, and we were surprised to see how full it was on a Monday evening. Our server brought us a basket of Ozzie rolls, their signature dinner rolls, which was enough for each of us to enjoy two. They were incredibly buttery, a bit sweet, and there was something about them that stood out compared to other complimentary bread options. If we wanted refills, we could pay $1 for another basket, with the proceeds going toward fighting food insecurity in the community. ROASTED HALF YOUNG CHICKEN - 25 If you're looking for a "bang for your buck" option that get the job done, get the chicken. You will be getting that protein gain. The skin was crispy and savory, and the brown butter sauce was addictive. The mashed potatoes were well seasoned and incredibly whipped. I just knew they had a massive amount of butter in them for them to taste like that. The chicken was also pretty juicy, even the white meat. Overall, a pretty solid option. I was lowkey expecting to hate it, but in fact, I did not. The food here is pretty pricy, and I know my friends thought their steak and salad were just okay. I did enjoy the Ozzie rolls and my chicken, despite it being on the fattier side.

We decided to start by sharing the wagyu carpaccio, the fried green tomatoes, and an appetizer portion of the cavatelli- I really like that you can do appetizer portions of both pastas on rotation on the menu here. We were also brought two pieces of focaccia with incredibly flavorful olive oil (yum!). The cavatelli and the fried green tomatoes were standouts for us, the pasta had a great chew and the bolognese was really flavorful. The fried green tomatoes came topped with a pimento cheese that was incredible. For our entrees, we opted for the braised bison shoulder and the scallops. The scallops were perfectly prepared and were a very generous portion. The bison shoulder was so tender and the accompaniments were incredible- this was a perfect fall dish. We also got the charred sweet summer corn, which was delicious and came studded with the lightest goat cheese, and rustic Old Bay potatoes, which were absolutely perfectly fried and came with a side of some honey mustard. We took a good amount of the sides home and they held up for a day or two! I was really impressed with the wine list here- there were a lot of solid options. The champagne in particular was excellent (and I am picky!). Our server, who I believe was Riley, really made it a special night. He was so attentive and had excellent suggestions. One touch that was so thoughtful was that we had declined dessert because we would be having birthday cake later, but mentioned that the banana tres leches sounded so good. He brought over a scoop of the banana ice cream that's typically on top of that dessert with a candle in it! It was so kind of him to listen to us but still recognize that it was a special occasion- and it was some of the best ice cream I've had in a long time (he said it is made in house every day with duck eggs, it was so rich and flavorful). We have already booked our return reservation here! Thanks to Evelyn Rose for a wonderful night with such memorable food.

When the rain started becoming an issue, he actually moved the umbrellas together to make sure Onyx had a dry spot. Really appreciated that. We started with a Bourbon Club and the Nitro Espresso Martini, then got the buffalo wings and she-crab soup. The wings can be grilled or fried and we went grilled, which was definitely the right call. Good char on them and I'd get them the same way again. The she-crab soup was also really good and perfect for a rainy afternoon. For lunch we had the French dip and the Reuben, and subbed the mac and cheese for one of the sides. Both sandwiches were solid, but the mac and cheese deserves a mention of its own. Definitely worth the substitution. Good food, good drinks, and especially good service from Kenny. Being able to hang out on the patio with our dog without the rain ruining lunch made the whole experience even better.

We had Mackenzie as our server and immediately connected because she's a foodie like me. At her suggestion, I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich but swapped the grilled chicken for fried. She had me at bacon. I mean, what doesn't go well with bacon? The chicken was crispy without being greasy and all the flavors just worked. My son had the chicken and waffles. Chicken was perfectly crispy, although the batter was a little sweeter than I prefer. I'm more of a Southern, savory fried chicken person. We asked for hot sauce to add to the maple syrup and Mackenzie upped it by bringing us hot honey instead. YES! Makers Union, add that to the menu. Promise you, it'll be a hit. You can thank Mackenzie for that one! Hubby had the fish and chips. His first reaction was, "Is that all?" Turns out, it was more than enough and really flavorful. The food was great, but honestly, Mackenzie made the experience. When your server understands food AND is a great people person, that's a winning combination. Great first visit and we'll definitely be back!

The menu had a lot of options to choose from which I appreciated. Our group opted for the following apps: rolls, calamari, wings, and sliders. My personal favorites were the wings which had a sweet and tangy flavor as well as the calamari. With the calamari there were jalapeños mixed in, so it definitely was a spicy surprise . The rolls were OK, but not as warm and soft as I'd like. I didn't try the sliders, but heard they were good. For drinks, I got a mocktail. The one I ordered had blueberry and a spice mix. It was really good! The service wasn't great to me. Our waiter didn't check in about our meals once we got them to see if we liked them or refill our water. I will say everyone enjoyed their food. I had the steak salad and asked for my steak to be medium well which it was cooked to my liking. I just thought the steak could have been better seasoned and for there to be more dressing. For dessert, the waiter recommended the bread pudding and it seemed to be a popular option among their dessert offerings. Although I didn't try the bread pudding, the bride to be and her maid of honor ate it, and they both said it wasn't good and very thick. All in all, I'd say the ambiance is great, food is tasty, but service could be more attentive.

Cocktails were my La Serre Martini and my husband had a Le Steb. We both loved the goat cheese salad (think they called it something else) appetizers. The food was beautifully presented and the wine pairing was superb. Definitely recommend having them pair your wines. The grilled shrimp was a great start. The sparkling rose made the shrimp taste even better. The goat cheese ravioli was probably my favorite savory dish of the evening. The sweet sage-maple syrup-tomato sauce was fantastic. The Sancerre was pleasant with it, although I thought the ravioli itself was more impressive than the pairing. I had to order bread so the sauce wouldnt go to waste. I ordered the lamb medium rare, but it arrived closer to medium, and initially it was somewhat underseasoned. After adding salt and pepper and getting some of the thyme from the plate into the bite, the lamb became significantly better and worked better with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The creamed spinach underneath was delicious on its own, but I didn't enjoy it with the wine. Interestingly, the absolute highlight of that wine pairing was the braised garlic. The sweet, mellow garlic and Châteauneuf-du-Pape were wonderful together. Dessert was the highlight of the entire pairing. The lavender ice cream was outstanding, the Chantilly surrounding it was light and delicious, and the strawberry sauce wasn't overly sweet. The Sauternes was excellent with the dessert, particularly with the fresh strawberry. This was the pairing where the food and wine truly made each other better. Even though I was one of the last diners of the evening, I never felt rushed. My server was very attentive and social which I love. It was very romantic and yet comfortable enough that dining alone wasnt awkward. I'd happily return.
