Haven't been to the Brogue in quite some time but made it back again recently as some friends were meeting for a comedian nite. Ok, sure that could be entertaining so why not? The talent was OK but it makes for a nice local neighborhood nite out with good food, cold drinks and entertainment. If you're feeling some Irish Pub fare you have many choices - Braised Beef Boxty, Guiness Beef Pie, Cottage Pie etc. They also have $10 Burger nite on Mondays...which can't be beat with inflation these days. On the lighter side, I really enjoyed the Blackened Salmon salad. It's packed with oranges and dried cherries which adds a nice bit of freshness/sweetness and the salmon is juicy and not dry like many other restaurants. Very pleased with the food and neighborhood feel of The Brogue. Added plus- numerous outdoor dining tables in the front and back so an excellent option for the coming warm weather. The Old Brogue just added a Wednesday night special. They have added Pasta night on Wednesday. It's pasta for two including salad, bread sticks and a bottle of wine. And this is for only $25 pp. We tried this tonight with the spaghetti carbonara, Caesar salad, the best bread sticks I've ever tasted, and a bottle of pinot grigio for $50 ! The atmosphere here really nails the Irish pub vibe dark, cozy, and welcoming. There are several outdoor seating areas too, some with gas fire pits, which I'm excited to experience during winter. We tried Magner's cider and the curry fries. The fries were okay, but the curry sauce leaned more toward a bland gravy and didn't have much depth compared to other places I've been. Despite that, I'll definitely return, either to explore more of the menu or just to enjoy a drink and soak in the ambiance. The servers seemed fairly new but were quick and efficient. read more

I have been to this place a few times over the years. We were looking for a restaurant everyone would like and The Old Brogue was what was decided upon. Plus it was a celebration of a few July birthdays (mine included) I believe there are a couple entrances...I went in the one right off the parking lot. I was seated toward the back of the bar area. The waitress comes over and I order a Solace Partly Cloudy on tap. She brings 4 glasses of water as well (always a good idea). After a bit the other three arrive and we're looking at the menu. I decided to split the fish and chips with someone. Another Solace....the food arrives and we're all enjoying dinner. The menu is pretty extensive, Irish dishes are the majority of what they make. It used to be good. The menu is a third of what it used to be. They have been through 3+ chefs, ost of the wait staf is gone, The food it now from a food service company. I was just with 20+ Great Falls women and to a one they used to go to the Brogue and none of them go now. We are all looking forward to the new restaurants opening soon. It's completely tucked away and completely charming as you walk up to it AND of course it was decked out for St Patrick's Day! We went because I was in the mood for a full Irish fry-up (eggs, sausage, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes) - I think it goes by many other names - but it is a hearty breakfast and something I miss from my study-abroad days... nearly 20 years ago! Goodness I'm old! ... Anyway, it was pretty darn good. The black and white sausage was delicious and the over easy eggs were cooked perfectly - I passionately dislike when yolk gets solid and there was none of that - just a pocket of ooey gooey golden deliciousness that was the perfect sauce for everything on my plate. I personally prefer my mushrooms and tomatoes to be fried, but they still dressed up the tomato a little and I think it would have been much better if they were in season - basically no flavor, which I think frying would have resolved. I also prefer toast over potatoes but that is a personal preference and I am sure they would have subbed if I had asked. The breakfast was solid though and went perfectly with my coffee and pint of Guinness! My husband got the Rueben, which he said was very good, top 5, and he has eaten like 50 different ones, so I would say that is pretty decent I would definitely try this place again, maybe for dinner and some live music on the weekend - but I do have a few constructive points: 1) the condiments on the tables looked like they hadn't been wiped down in quite some time - now it was THE Holiday this weekend for Irish pubs in the U.S. so maybe, maybe, it was just due to how busy they were - but the malt vinegar was so bad we wouldn't touch it. 2) My food was very good, there were serious high notes that it hit, BUT it was all rather lukewarm - again, maybe due to the crowd, willing to give it another shot... 3) Not sure if there is anything they can do about it, but if you sit on the wrong side of the enclosed patio, your view is of a port-a-potty... not exactly appetizing. Waiter was awesome -- Danilo... a true gentleman and rockstar service! Ordered the fish and chips and that was good, but the person that stated it was the best in the U.S.? Hmmm... Not so much the very best, no. Okay though. Maybe change up the oil more often so you actually taste the fish coming through; ours had a bit of mustard flavoring. Again, the drinks and waitstaff were tremendous. We'll try something else again, soon, too. It's been a while Old Brogue. What happened. Two kids meals. Chicken tenders. Can't screw that up. Pasta with sauce and meatballs. Half cooked pasta and cut up sausage. Close enough I guess? Shared a beet and goat cheese salad. There was salad, beets, and goat cheese on the plate. But couldn't really taste them. Next, shared the brisket au jus sandwich. The bun was sopping wet and falling apart. The meat tasted like it was cooked last time we visited. Dry, rubbery, inedible. If the old brogue is trying to bring the back the authentic English cuisine that we've heard stories about to America, they may have succeeded. Service during dinner was ok. Our server was pleasant and she did take the sandwich off the tab and provided a $20 gift card should be enough for 2 pints and no food. read more

We decided to make a stop here with our little ones and it was just abysmal. We were sat and it took almost 15 minutes to see a server. He came by and really couldn't be bothered. We ordered all our food and beverages and finished our drinks. Several tables around turned over and got food and drinks before us. Our server never came back to check on us or let us know our food was still coming. Finally after 50 minutes our food came and I ordered a second beer. I ordered the Reuben and it had clearly been sitting under heat lamps for 20 minutes as the top was extra crispy, however the inside was cold cold. Our kids mac n cheese clearly also had been sitting for quite some time and had already hardened. The burger was clearly a freezer FSA or Sysco burger where the cheese had rehardened. Since we had little ones we chose to just eat because everyone was hungry. The server never came back and we finished. I had to go ask for someone to help me so we could pay and leave. The server came running inside and handed me the check. When I told him our experience he said sorry and walked away. Not to mention I never received my second beer and we never got the waters we asked for. As a former server myself I am very lenient but this was by far the worst experience. Zero care for the customer, and to not have extra staff or management help run food is just plain bad. We had hoped to have a great dinner outing with our kiddos but this place made the experience just so exhausting because we spent the hour entertaining and holding off hungry kids. We went to The Old Brogue for Father's Day dinner. We have been there many times in the past. However, the meals Sunday evening were subpar. In particular the Meatloaf which was horrible, unlike any meatloaf we've ever eaten before. It was inedible. The Beef Stroganoff, one of their specials, was also not very good. As I mentioned, normally their food is very good but it was a really bad meal for most of us. Also we were seated next to the kitchen door which was so noisy (we asked on the way out and they stated that it had just been put in the week before and they knew if the issue!). Very relaxing, charming locals restaurant. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. This is not your average Irish pub menu. Lots of interesting comfort foods. We enjoyed the lamb stew, the Irish Cottage Pie, side salad, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. All were delicious. Our server, Jasmine, helped guide us through the choices on the menu, as she had tried many of the items herself. She was very professional, personable, and attentive. Nice place, nice vibe, Irish pub but through an American filter. My wife ordered the French onion soup and was very happy. Things got interesting when we ordered fish and chips. The waiter asked if we wanted one or two pieces. We said two, meaning two separate plates. He asked again, slowly, like he was explaining a riddle, and clarified that the dish comes with either one piece or two pieces of fish ($15 vs. $22). This was new information to me, but not wanting to leave hungry--or emotionally scarred--I chose two pieces. When the plates arrived, the mystery was solved. Two pieces of fish roughly the size of cigarette boxes, wrapped in a batter so thick it could qualify as structural insulation. Finding the actual fish required effort, optimism, and possibly a map. I politely mentioned that I had ordered fish, not a deep-fried batter experience. The server whisked my plate away and returned shortly with a revised version--this time featuring slightly more fish hiding inside the batter. We ended on a high note with pecan pie and ice cream, which was excellent and reminded us why desserts exist. When the bill came, we noticed the manager didn't charge us for my fish and chips--neither the original nor the sequel--so points for that. I've spent a good chunk of time in the UK and Ireland and have fond memories of this classic pub dish. Sadly, this is not the place to relive them. Great Service. Had a Late Friday Lunch. We were seated right away and our waiter was very busy, but friendly and explained the menu. Ordered the fish and chips and turkey club with a side salad. Strongly recommend the two fried fish portion, if hungry. French fries were perfectly fried. Turkey club was huge with lots of turkey. I swapped the cheddar cheese for Swiss. Excellent quality turkey and Swiss with plenty of bacon. The side salad was fresh, crisp, and I wonder if the blue cheese dressing on the side was homemade. Ice Tea was fab and had two refills due to the hot day. Drove 40 minutes for quality Fish n Chips. There was art work for sale on the walls. Interesting place with great food. We came on a nice day and decided to sit outside in the back patio. While the decor inside the restaurant resembles any typical Irish pub, the patio feels more like an outdoor cafe. It is nicely shaded and relaxing. This was my first visit to The Old Brogue. I didn't think of trying its fish and chips (which is touted as the best on its website). Instead, I tried the lunch special (chicken fajitas). The waitress was very attentive, and the food was good. Service is always friendly but be warned that they can get pretty crowded. Expect a bit slower service (esp. if you're seated out of direct eyesight or outside) due to just general volume v. servers but the hostess usually steps in to assist and ensure that you're taken care of. I haven't actually been eating here for 42 years, but have been regularly for more than the last decade. Imagine my surprise after being out for a few months with an injury to finding menu changes and more dramatically food changes. From the place that never changes I was so saddened by this that I opted to cut my losses and not get an entree. But the bacon is now bad bacon bits instead of the pieces of bacon it was, the jalapeños are no longer put on them, and they're cut in half and not structurally intact. Plus little things like there not being salt on the table, water not being refilled, and just a general soul crushing sadness. Took a really good and consistent menu and kitchen and apparently now is doing a solid TGIFridays impression. ... and insult to injury, it took 18 minutes to get a check after asking. Luckily, I had cash as had I have tried to pay with a card, I would have probably had to have my mail forwarded. read more

We decided to dine here for lunch today. My hubby was craving a burger and some good beer. He checked to make sure there were some vegetarian options for me before we called and made a reservation. We saw several people seated outside with lots of social distancing. There were lots of dogs sitting outside too. We chose to sit inside and felt completely safe. There was just one other table occupied. The server was very friendly and very attentive. Here is what I ordered today: - Fried Pickles: delicious!!!! Just order this appetizer. It's perfectly fried and I loved it. - Crispy Cauliflower: this was decent. I personally would have liked the cauliflower to be more cooked with batter. I've had better versions at other restaurants, so perhaps I was expecting a bit more. - Nachos: this was not what I was expecting. I was hoping warm liquid cheese on the chips. The cheese was dried out on the chips. The black beans didn't have much flavor. I just ate the chips with the salsa provided and left more than half the plate. I would like to go back and try their veggie pasta and onion rings. Their salads looked good too. I didn't see a veggie entree on the menu, but there are lots of other veggie options. My hubby absolutely loved his burger and wiped the plate. So meat eats will love this place. I'll update the review once I go back and try something else. Loved the ambiance of this place. Disappointing Change in Management is Tarnishing a Longtime Favorite For 17 years, this great local restaurant has been a favorite of ours under the ownership and management of Mike Kearney, but during ab abysmal visit tonight we learned Mije had retired and sold the business to the owner of a franchise chain. Upon arrival, we were initially told that an outdoor table wasn't available even though we had walked past one that was open and we know they don't take reservations after 6:30. Thankfully, the staff eventually allowed us to sit there. Our waitress (who was extremely nice throughout) informed us that our food was ready and would arrive after another minute or so. But after another 20 minutes, it still hadn't arrived. We learned that our meals had been given to another table who ordered similar meals and they never prepared ours afterward. The waitress was apologetic, and while I assured her it wasn't her fault, it was noticeable and disappointing that no one from management addressed the issue...a significant slide in customer service. To make matters worse, rather than reducing our bill as the waitress promised, instead we were given an extra drink we didn't need and an unwanted appetizer we never asked for or needed. All the items we actually ordered were still on the bill, and management never stopped by to discuss the situation or offer an apology. As I left, I overheard our waitress apologizing to another group, which only reinforced my disappointment in the new management. This restaurant used to excel in customer service, but it seems the new management seems to be intent on tarnishing its reputation. While I may give them one last chance in a few months to see if they've gotten their act together I'm not confident because the whole experience reeked of arrogant incompetence by the new people in charge. read more

Over the years I have seen an improvement in service and food quality. They have changed some items on the menu and do have slightly heavier options in food. It's a true great falls gem. This place is great for Halloween and Easter as the town square has trick or treating and eater egg hunt. Definitely make a res version though! Even on normal weekends it gets busy. read more

We've been going here for over 30 years, but we'll see about the future. Of late, its identity as an Irish pub seems greatly weakened. The "Irish" part of the food menu is 2 or 3 items. Quality has become spotty. Yesterday I got a burger and the bun was soggy, the meat was OK. A couple weeks ago we got fish and chips, and there was a layer of mustard under the breading. The server said that was normal. NOT! Others comment on the prices increasing, but that seems universal.
