Love this place, it's 100 years old and thriving. Nice beer selection, the best bar food around. You really can't go wrong visiting here. Great place for parties as well.

2 beers and some takeout while I was in the neighborhood. I enjoyed the place, the beers and the food. I will return for sure.

I came to this establishment with an acquaintance on a Sunday and i didn't realize the restaurant don't open til 4 pm so I sat at the bar for an hour which was fine because the Mets baseball was on to keep me entertained. The bar is open at 1 on the weekends if people need a drink in the area. So, 4:00 came and I was told the restaurant was all in the back of the building outside. The waiter was friendly and gave us our menu. I ordered the most expensive dish on the menu for 14.99 which was the beef goulash which I'm a fan of at many Eastern European restaurants and this one in particular was German. My acquaintance ordered the bratwurst with half sauerkraut and half potato salad which is not on the menu and it was something the waiter kindly offered. The food came and it look ok. My dish not the food looked heavily used like when it was first opened in 1924. They couldn't just throw their old dishes and get new dishes apparently. My food itself was really bad. Beef itself was dry and stew was bland. I hardly ever add salt to my food but this dish desperately needed it. Also, no vegetables like carrots or potatoes that a goulash may have. Noodles look and tasted like mush, bland and it didn't help mixing it in with the bland goulash. I think this dish was meant to be served and eaten to senior citizens because it looked and tasted something that might be served at senior center. Final verdict: Me and my acquaintance were the only people actually here for the food and not the bar. If you come here, stay at the bar, watch the game, and if ur hungry the sausage and pretzels aren't bad. Stay away from the goulash and the other foods are under $10 so it's affordable and decently edible.

My extended family and I went here for a gathering and sat in the back catering room. There was plenty of seating to accommodate a much larger crowd than ours, as well as a stage and large dance floor. The building is a good old German hall and is easy to find with large signs outside. There are multiple levels and rooms for large gatherings as well as a good sized bar up front for those wishing to stop in casually. This was my first time here, but I could tell this is a place where friends are made and everybody knows your name. Parking can be a bit tough depending on the time of day, but there are plenty of side streets to scour for a spot. There are bathrooms on both the main level and downstairs which are all kept clean. I must simply rave about the food! My family consists of mostly Germans and we truly appreciate a good solid German meal. Our family buffet had a big crispy salad, mashed potatoes, chicken cutlets, roast pork, roast beef, seasoned veggies and of course sauerkraut. Everything was so tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The sauerkraut was Bavarian style with bacon...yummmmmmmm. We enjoyed pitchers of Spaten as well which paired perfectly with our meals. For dessert, we had a massive slice of cheesecake. The waiter was absolutely amazing, accommodating our large party with ease. The kitchen staff was also outstanding and we took home so much food to enjoy later. Our family friend had worked here in years past and she was treated like family at this restaurant. They also treated us wonderfully today and we had an excellent time. I would highly recommend Gottscheer Hall for anyone looking to enjoy a great German bar or those who are looking for a catering venue in the area.

Was so glad to come through and support their reopening on 2/12 with indoor dining coming back. Very spacious and excellent food as usual. Stayed from opening to close. They take temperature at door and there is a large dining room for seating. The server Trina was also great. Tip generously! Food and drinks 10/10

Checked out the holiday party the bartender invited me too. Another Yelp reviewer also sent me a message inviting me to come on down. So I tried the food. I had the German potato pancakes with apple sauce. I liked the way the apple sauce was generously sprinkled with cinnamon. The dish overall was okay. However, both bartenders were extremely kind. The female bartender asked me how my food was. But I hope Gottscheer doesn't stop serving food. It's nice to find a place where you can eat and drink within your means. So I'll probably order some dishes from here again. The best part of this whole entire place is the vibe. From the sweet employees, chill locals, and people just enjoying themselves. This place can easily be your home away from home. The result? I bumped this up to five stars. Had an awesome time last night.

It is a little tight inside but not bad when everyone is seated spaced out. Service was very friendly. The Kompot has a nice balance of rhubarb, apple and plum. Rhubarb is the prominent flavor with the added sweetness of apple and the tartness of the plum. A very refreshing drink. The Cucumbers had a great pickle, with a generous amount of farmer's cheese and walnuts. The cucumbers had a good bite to them. The buckwheat honey added a hint of sweetness and earthiness. The Ukranian Borscht with Sourdough Bread had well cooked chunks of beets. The Sourdough Bread is a good addition for soaking up the broth (and the sauces of other dishes). The Potato and Cheese Pierogi were decent sized with a load of potato and cheese inside. The caramelized onions add good flavor. Definitely a well made classic. The Lazy Dumpling, was ordered upon the recommendation of someone who just finished eating, and wow I'm glad he recommended it. Al dente dough soaking up all that cremini mushroom flavor. It was a bit heavy for me because of the cream (curse my lactose intolerance) but the pickles help cut that richness. The Homemade Beet and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream comes in a chilled glass! It had a really rich vanilla bean flavor mixed with the sweetness of the beet. Definitely a spot to hit when I'm craving Ukranian food.

The bar is a bit on the smaller side in terms of seating, but it has a TON of personality. I loved the eclectic decorations and knickknacks around the seating areas and the bar. The bartender had the TV tuned in to Jeopardy, so my inner (or extremely obvious?) nerd was beaming. In terms of the drinks themselves, I tried the cocoa orange whiskey (?) infusion on the rocks, and my BF had the chipotle paloma. We would both say they were solid, definitely not at "craft cocktail" level, but decent. This bar has a fun + dive-y feel - the kind of place where you get a beer, a plate of chicken nuggets, and watch trash tv with your neighborhood crew (I think they actually do have people who have a weekly Bachelorette viewing during the week). Definitely worth checking out if you're already in the area and looking for ~vibes.~

I've had a number of drinks here and it's been a great meeting spot for late night occasions, especially ones that revolve around a good drink. No doubt it's one of the more underrated nightlife venues in the borough. The setup feels like something out of a Brooklyn type bar - pseudo hipster vibe, casual environment with the whole board games and stacks of books all within a space that is well divided to give a different feel in each corner of the small'ish interior. Like a living room extension but with adult company. Of course, the bar is the most prominent thing in the room and it's a great place to chill as a solo patron. Groups can congregate in the lounge-y areas but the feel is remarkably different depending on where one choses to hang. On a beverage front, there is no shortage of quality drinks to be had. The cocktails are well made and not expensive; the bartenders do a good job of making sure each drink carries a certain kind of potency before leaving the bar. The happy hours are lovely as well, combined with a good deals ($5 shot + beer special, $5 cocktails, etc.) and even better hours (2-8pm!). Lastly, I appreciate a good name. Bad Old Days can be interpreted in many facets, but I think this establishment prides itself on good company and somehow rewards us with simple, good drinks. Bring a friend or three, enjoy the random movies that get projected onto the wall, and enjoy a late night capper in a quiet part of an emerging part of Queens.

The place is really small with limited seating inside as well as enclosed outdoor seating and tables/stools along the outside. Such a diverse crowd! They have 2 entrances. One the side and the front. It was way too busy inside so we chose to sit in the covered outdoor section. If you do that, be prepared for a lot of smoke and pigeon feathers flying around! We were okay with that! When you order a drink here, you get a wooden token which will get you your next drink free! This happened the entire time we were there. We had a total of 4 drinks each with 2 of them each being free! That will definitely have me coming back for more. There's no other place that does that. No jukebox, but the music they played was decent. Total dive bar atmosphere. Service was fine. Love the free popcorn with fixings station. Fresh hot popcorn with Old Bay is delicious with a nice, cold drink. All you can eat of it, too. Although I saw 1 patron go up 10 times for it! Talk about overkill. They serve hot dogs for a buck as well! Now the bathroom was pretty gross. Hardly any light. Stinky and no place to dry your hands. Did I expect a 4 star bathroom experience here? Absolutely not, but give me a working hand dryer or paper towel please. The shocker of the night was when I closed out my tab. For those 4 drinks we got charged for, it came out to $13.50! Uhh....what?! That's insane. Cheapest happy hour drinks ever. Did I get a headache from the well liquor they used for these drinks? Definitely. Was it worth it for that price. You know it!
