I didn't care because I liked the owner and just wanted a nice moment with a beer listening to the church bells in the snow while music played lightly. But upon return, the place has lost that charming appeal. There were two people working: one polite and the other with just awful energy. When you order a drink here, you get a wooden token which will get you your next drink free! This happened the entire time we were there. We had a total of 4 drinks each with 2 of them each being free! That will definitely have me coming back for more. There's no other place that does that. No jukebox, but the music they played was decent. Total dive bar atmosphere. Service was fine. Love the free popcorn with fixings station. Fresh hot popcorn with Old Bay is delicious with a nice, cold drink. All you can eat of it, too. Although I saw 1 patron go up 10 times for it! Talk about overkill. They serve hot dogs for a buck as well! Now the bathroom was pretty gross. Hardly any light. Stinky and no place to dry your hands. Did I expect a 4 star bathroom experience here? Absolutely not, but give me a working hand dryer or paper towel please. The shocker of the night was when I closed out my tab. For those 4 drinks we got charged for, it came out to $13.50! Uhh....what?! That's insane. Cheapest happy hour drinks ever. Did I get a headache from the well liquor they used for these drinks? Definitely. Was it worth it for that price. You know it! My biggest gripe with the place, however, is the music. I appreciate that this is super dependent on who is working but for a darkly lit brewery, I wouldn't have chosen the classic/elevator/slow music that was playing overhead. Parking is super easy. Also, I am very curious in their connection to the leather making studio next door and would be interested in the pop-ups that happen here once monthly!

It used to be a nice place a few years ago when they actually had someone managing it and controlling the parties on weekends. Trying living next door to them. You would be pissed too. There is no order. When they have sweet sixteens and other LOUD events going on all night (till 4am sometimes) we have to deal with windows shaking, loud repetitive music, loud DJ's screaming in spanish all because they are not properly sound proofed and also have a broken window in the back. Doesn't matter if they fixed it, they allow their patrons to leave the back door open for everyone to hear that garbage. Then to top it off, we have their drunk patrons running down the streets afterwards urinating in my driveway and throwing bottles everywhere. I've witnessed this. I actually caught a man relieving himself on my property saying "he wasn't doing anything" as he was zipping up his fly and my gate was wet. Also, we have to endure cab cars honking all hours of the night coming to pick up these drunks. Then.....when the weekend is over.............just when you think you'll get some quiet on a sunday night........ Gottscheer Hall has an illegal dump truck coming at 2 am to pick up garbage and shake the whole neighborhood with it's noise for 20 minutes. This is ridiculous. I've been witnessing all this and documenting for the past 2 years and I plan on taking legal action when I have enough evidence. Doesn't matter how many times or how many people call to complain, they are rude on the phone and just don't do anything about it. Don't have proper security either. I don't think a security guard is supposed to be sitting in the hall playing candy crush on his cell phone. The food has gotten pretty bad over the last 2 years as well. Can't wait to move upstate one day and get away from this. read more

The prices are on the higher side, but I guess I am paying Williamsburg conveniences. This is terrific food outside of the Rhineland, and since that is where I am headed at the end of the year, at least I am going out on a high note. Phase I: The Pretzel As you may have guessed, getting a pretzel is a must for me for any biergarten or microbrewery. The pretzel is super soft and easy to eat. I asked afterwards if I could get a pretzel with no salt or if the pretzels here are pre-salted. I could have gotten it with no salt if I chose. That is probably the way to go, unless you want your mouth to taste like an ocean. Phase II: The Meat This time I found a happy medium, settling for three sausages. I got a Bratwurst, a Currywurst, and a Keisewurst, better known in Europe as the Käsekrainer. All three sausages are smoked beautifully and have amazing flavor. The Currywurst is something I had never had before, but after having it here, I am very excited to have it in Germany. The Käsekrainer is a sausage I know all too well. A pork sausage with cheese inside. This sausage checks all the boxes in terms of flavor, spice because of the jalapeño interior, and variance as it crosses American and European palettes. The Bratwurst is tried and true, albeit the safe choice, like getting a hamburger at McDonald's or Burger King. I also got a side order of fries which are massive, but also have great flavor. I could not finish these. The sausages also come with sauerkraut, something I am not a fan of, but the mustards I got plus a nice cider really took this over the top. Phase 3: The Strudel While disappointed that this restaurant does not offer a Black Forest Cake, a strudel with vanilla gelato is a nice alternative. This restaurant does it well. Perfectly cooked. A nice sweetness from the fruits and the gelato (combine the gelato with the strudel and the taste is heavenly), and you have a nice way to end your meal. -- The fact that it is not far from the L train helps in terms of convenience, but I chose the more challenging footing and walked 20 minutes to Marcy Ave on the J/M/Z to really burn off the calories. Or you could just go to the Williamsburg Bridge and walk across the whole thing to really get your post meal workout in. Either way, the food here is so good you will eat so much of it that you have to work off the calories. Danke.
