I got this rotten kefir from this store yesterday And it's not the first time. Just be aware there are a lot of not fresh products. Disgusting !!!!

    Tia B.

Billy's Marketplace has a beautiful layout. It is brightly lit, clean and has wide aisles. The aisles are named after local streets and are marked clearly of items in them. The store is well stocked with a variety of Krasdale products as well as other brands that I have never seen before. There is definitely a variety of products that may appeal to everyone. This store reflects the neighborhood. It has everything from fruits and vegetables to organic products of every kind. What I liked best was that the organic products are mixed in with other products. Therefore there is a sampling throughout the store not just one aisle. There is also a variety of breads, rolls, and bagels. I saw individual Junior's mini cheese cakes as well as other medium and large sized cakes. They have a variety of green or environmentally safe cleaning products. They do have an ethnic food aisle. There was small selection of 4 pounds dog/cat foods that maybe more suitable for smaller dog/cats. I liked the meat aisle as it had regular poultry and meats as well as organic. There is a butcher shop at the end of the meat aisle. There are several "bars" around the store. I saw a sushi bar, a coffee bar, fresh seafood bar, hot food bar ($5.99 lb.). There was a deli counter that had a variety of ready to eat food such as chicken cutlets, chicken with mushrooms, grilled chicken. I'm sure they had more than chicken. This is what caught my eye. They have deli meat but I only saw roast beef for $9.99 a pound. I found the store to be a bit expensive if you don't know your prices. It is more reflective of the new younger millennials that have recently moved into the area rather than budget conscious families. There are many single serve or smaller size products than the average supermarket. Fruits and vegetables are very expensive e.g. $3.99 lb for seasonal fruits. I found the prices 50 cents to $3 more than other supermarkets in the area. It depends on the item. Don't forget to get your store card. I'm not sure what perks and/or discounts is available with the card. Overall, I plan to shop there again. There is metered street parking.

A hair that was attached to the pork chops.

I ordered pork chops at the meat counter, the employee cut them packed and I paid. Well I opened them today and to the garbage. There was a freaking hair in between the pork chops. $13 for 3 pork chops. $$ doesn't fall off the sky into my wallet. This is beyond disgusting.

It is a little tight inside but not bad when everyone is seated spaced out. Service was very friendly. The Kompot has a nice balance of rhubarb, apple and plum. Rhubarb is the prominent flavor with the added sweetness of apple and the tartness of the plum. A very refreshing drink. The Cucumbers had a great pickle, with a generous amount of farmer's cheese and walnuts. The cucumbers had a good bite to them. The buckwheat honey added a hint of sweetness and earthiness. The Ukranian Borscht with Sourdough Bread had well cooked chunks of beets. The Sourdough Bread is a good addition for soaking up the broth (and the sauces of other dishes). The Potato and Cheese Pierogi were decent sized with a load of potato and cheese inside. The caramelized onions add good flavor. Definitely a well made classic. The Lazy Dumpling, was ordered upon the recommendation of someone who just finished eating, and wow I'm glad he recommended it. Al dente dough soaking up all that cremini mushroom flavor. It was a bit heavy for me because of the cream (curse my lactose intolerance) but the pickles help cut that richness. The Homemade Beet and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream comes in a chilled glass! It had a really rich vanilla bean flavor mixed with the sweetness of the beet. Definitely a spot to hit when I'm craving Ukranian food.

The interior evoked elements of interwar and Communist-era Poland. The wooden booths, bar stools, glass paneling, and light fixtures created a homey yet bright atmosphere, and even the bathroom carried through the historic aesthetic. The plates were also done in a traditional Polish pottery style. Given the name of the establishment, we had to try the pierogi. Aside from the meat (z mięsem) and sauerkraut & mushroom (z kapustą i grzybami), there were also potato & cheese (ruskie), ranging from $14-$16 for lunch. Each order came with six pierogi and were filling enough that we had some leftover to bring home. The pierogi z kapustą i grzybami were traditional, with a filling that had nice flavor and texture, though I think they could have used a bit less dill on top. The pierogi z mięsem were more non-traditional, incorporating beef cheek alongside pork. These were also very good, with tender meat. We also ordered the pickled cucumbers, onions, and mushrooms (kiszonki), which provided a nice contrast in both texture and flavor to the pierogi. The menu included inventive cocktails incorporating Polish flavors like apple cake (szarlotka) and beet (burak). I'd come back for dinner to try both the cocktails and the more extensive evening menu. Aside from the restaurant, there is also a market in the space. Most of the inventory consisted of assorted non-perishables like sauces and jams from across the US, with less of a focus on Polish products than traditional "polskie sklepy" around Ridgewood. There was also a deli counter, though it was fairly limited. I had planned on buying Polish herbal tea, but the tea selection consisted of only a few black teas. The coffee selection was larger, though mostly brands you'd find in any supermarket. Overall, a welcome addition to Ridgewood that both keeps Polish culture alive and feels fresh and contemporary.

The bar is a bit on the smaller side in terms of seating, but it has a TON of personality. I loved the eclectic decorations and knickknacks around the seating areas and the bar. The bartender had the TV tuned in to Jeopardy, so my inner (or extremely obvious?) nerd was beaming. In terms of the drinks themselves, I tried the cocoa orange whiskey (?) infusion on the rocks, and my BF had the chipotle paloma. We would both say they were solid, definitely not at "craft cocktail" level, but decent. This bar has a fun + dive-y feel - the kind of place where you get a beer, a plate of chicken nuggets, and watch trash tv with your neighborhood crew (I think they actually do have people who have a weekly Bachelorette viewing during the week). Definitely worth checking out if you're already in the area and looking for ~vibes.~

I've had a number of drinks here and it's been a great meeting spot for late night occasions, especially ones that revolve around a good drink. No doubt it's one of the more underrated nightlife venues in the borough. The setup feels like something out of a Brooklyn type bar - pseudo hipster vibe, casual environment with the whole board games and stacks of books all within a space that is well divided to give a different feel in each corner of the small'ish interior. Like a living room extension but with adult company. Of course, the bar is the most prominent thing in the room and it's a great place to chill as a solo patron. Groups can congregate in the lounge-y areas but the feel is remarkably different depending on where one choses to hang. On a beverage front, there is no shortage of quality drinks to be had. The cocktails are well made and not expensive; the bartenders do a good job of making sure each drink carries a certain kind of potency before leaving the bar. The happy hours are lovely as well, combined with a good deals ($5 shot + beer special, $5 cocktails, etc.) and even better hours (2-8pm!). Lastly, I appreciate a good name. Bad Old Days can be interpreted in many facets, but I think this establishment prides itself on good company and somehow rewards us with simple, good drinks. Bring a friend or three, enjoy the random movies that get projected onto the wall, and enjoy a late night capper in a quiet part of an emerging part of Queens.

It had a pretty raunchy feel with an older crowd, sitting somewhere between a pub and a dive bar. The door was broken and the cups by the water looked dirty. The place is really small with limited seating inside as well as enclosed outdoor seating and tables/stools along the outside. Such a diverse crowd! They have 2 entrances. One the side and the front. It was way too busy inside so we chose to sit in the covered outdoor section. If you do that, be prepared for a lot of smoke and pigeon feathers flying around! We were okay with that! When you order a drink here, you get a wooden token which will get you your next drink free! This happened the entire time we were there. We had a total of 4 drinks each with 2 of them each being free! That will definitely have me coming back for more. There's no other place that does that. No jukebox, but the music they played was decent. Total dive bar atmosphere. Service was fine. Love the free popcorn with fixings station. Fresh hot popcorn with Old Bay is delicious with a nice, cold drink. All you can eat of it, too. Although I saw 1 patron go up 10 times for it! Talk about overkill. They serve hot dogs for a buck as well! Now the bathroom was pretty gross. Hardly any light. Stinky and no place to dry your hands. Did I expect a 4 star bathroom experience here? Absolutely not, but give me a working hand dryer or paper towel please. The shocker of the night was when I closed out my tab. For those 4 drinks we got charged for, it came out to $13.50! Uhh....what?! That's insane. Cheapest happy hour drinks ever. Did I get a headache from the well liquor they used for these drinks? Definitely. Was it worth it for that price. You know it! I'll be back.
