Afternoon tea time at this hk cafe tucked away at the back of peach tree plaza. The place was not too busy even for a Saturday. Service was quick and food came decently fast. HK French toast - A chunky, not so crispy French toast. Pretty standard french toast. Would skip next time. Beef brisket soup with rice noodles - Standard HK beef soup flavour. Brisket was not tough, but also not melt in your mouth. Chicken thigh with fries - Big portion of chicken thigh, but under seasoned. Fries were grocery store fries that were not too good. Would not get again. If I were to come back next time, gotta try the stir fry dishes as they came out smelling pretty nice. Decent prices for the portion size.

So this place seems to be where people end up when it's too busy at New City and Blue Ocean which are the more popular cafes. I can see why there are always seats here. The food is alright but I would say definitively not as good as the other two in the same plaza. The prices may be slightly cheaper which makes them a bit more competitive, but unlikely to become the preferred option among better choices

Food 4/5 Service 3/5 Vibe 4/5 New Hong Kong Style Cafe in Markham (new Kennedy plaza) Came here on a Sunday for Lunch and it was PACKED! I personally thought everything was great, similar as other hong kong style cha chan tang 茶餐厅. But i gotta say their Hong Kong style Milk Tea was 5/5, so silky and smooth. I personally love eating at these fast food style Chinese restaurant and everything is quite local and authentic. So great addition in Markham!

I've heard terrible things about this place from aunties so my mom and I decided to check it out. Prices were pretty decent! Good portion size and the flavours are great. I especially loved the stir fried pork chop in udon: enough wok hei 鑊氣 and food was served hot. Pretty fast too! As for the fish filet baked rice, it was average. Nothing stood out about it aside from too much sauce. The cheese wasn't very strong in flavour. Soup was much too oily. In the pic, that was half the oil bits. The staff were pretty fast but then again we went on a weekday for lunch. There were only 3 tables. Still, they were attentive. Very casual vibe in the restaurant like any typical hk diner. I love their wall of hk phrases although some were def from mainland China. They could improve their hk feel by putting on hk oldies from 70s-90s to match the vibe. I'd definitely come back again!

Another day, another after-work meal with fellow foodie, Jennifer K. She knows where to find all the inexpensive places with good food! Gold Spring, located on Kennedy, south of Hwy 7, is a relatively new Chinese restaurant, offering good food at reasonable prices. We ordered from their Afternoon Tea menu - Singapore Style Vermicelli, Fried Rice Noodle with Beef, and Coconut French Toast. All dishes were under ten dollars, with decent sized portions. The flavours were good but the presentation could have used a little work. The restaurant was clean and bright, and the service was quick and efficient. Not a bad spot at all. I'll be back!

Gold Spring, a Hong Kong Style Cafe, is located in New Kennedy Square. The interior is spacious and clean. Newly renovated and opened its door a few months ago. Staff is so friendly and welcoming. Service is fast and efficient. For afternoon tea, they have great selections and excellent prices. Rice Noodle with Beef (干炒牛河) with drink ($8.50) was really tasty. Portion wise is good. Hong Kong milk tea was above average. During my visit, I took advantage of their limited time Afternoon Tea special: complimentary red bean drink. (I really enjoyed that! Perfect as a dessert) Highly recommended Gold Spring Cafe. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance 3/5 Came here with some coworkers for lunch. We came at around 1pm on a weekday and there weren't a lot of people, which was great! I ordered a lunch plate of steak and rice with black pepper sauce. It came with a soup and hot drink. I really wasn't expecting the soup and the milk tea to be good since I've yet to find a good spot uptown for either of those things. But I was pleasantly surprised -- especially with the milk tea. It didn't have that bitter tea after taste that I hate so it was already a good sign. The steak was ok, the pepper sauce was a bit strong but not too overpowering. Overall, the food came in nice portions and I left the place pretty satisfied.

I came here on a rainy Saturday around 10:45 am. The place was quite busy, around 80% capacity was filled. For a table of four, we were seated rather quickly and immediately given menus and hot tea. I like the layout of the restaurant as it is square, so table placement makes a lot of sense. There's a decent amount of seating without being too crowded. Overall, very clean looking and the minimal decor with the use of signs on the wall is a cute aesthetic. The only downside I found was that every time someone opened the door, there was a huge draft that flew in, even though we weren't really sitting all too close to the entrance. It's because despite a double door entrance design, the space between the two doors is not enclosed with a roof, hence all the air is pushed over and out. Mind you, today was also particularly windy and chilly. Ordering to food on the table time was decently quick - about 10 minutes or so (it felt like, I forgot to actually pay attention but it was by no means a long wait). I got the BEEF BRISKET VERMICELLI. Portions don't look big but the bowl is deep and packed! So I was very much satisfied. The broth was so flavorful without being too salty, with all the noodles soaking up the soup, it was delicious. There was also a good amount of brisket but I felt it was on the fatty side. I liked that it also came with some lettuce. My meal came with a drink of choice so I ordered the HOT LEMON TEA. The tea they use is different from many others - I found it to be less bitter, overall, above average. The service was efficient and friendly. Oh, there's a 10% discount on takeout orders! There's free parking in the plaza but can sometimes be difficult to find due to the sheer volume.

I came here for breakfast. Initially I wanted to go to the food court in the plaza, but most places were closed at 9am. I stumbled upon gold spring restaurant to try to find a place to eat with limited time on my hands now. I ordered beef tendon/brisket rice noodles and satay vermicelli. The meals come with a drink, I usually order a milk tea. It's a small cozy place, but service was quick. Food was alright and menu choices were good. Definitely can find your typical rice or noodle HK style breakfast food here. Prices were quite reasonable too.

We came in the week of opening. The holy trinity for diners is fast, cheap, good. Fast - checked. Smooth operation right off the gate in week #1 Cheap - market price minus $1 and big portion. it passes the value test easily Good - entree for this test is baked pork chop rice in tomato favoured sauce. A-OK. Tomato sauce tasted bland. Fresh meat (but not a surprise as it was the first week of operation). Hugh portion. Not a place I would make a trip for, but it sates the basic craving for HK cafe food.

I came for afternoon tea time. Quick seatings. Good service. Decent ambiance. The soup noodle was good but the other 2 dishes were okay. The fried vermicelli was bland and the French toast didn't have much of the centre (Kaya). Out of 3 dishes, only 1 was good. Overall not bad. I would come back to try the rest of the menu.

I heard about a new HK style cafe that opened up in the New Kennedy Square plaza and wanted to check it out. At first glance, the menu is very similar to Blue Ocean Cafe (also in the same plaza) and I believe one of the staff who used to work there transitioned over to this new restaurant. The place can seat about 40 people in total and when I went on a weeknight, it wasn't too busy. I ordered the Baked Pork Chop with Rice and Curry Brisket with Rice and I would say that it's almost identical to the food in Blue Ocean Cafe so there must be a connection. Each dish comes with a soup and tea/coffee as well. Unfortunately for my experience, it took longer than normal to get the soup out as they had to cook a new batch. For taste, it was pretty standard for a HK style cafe so no complaints there. As this restaurant is fairly new, I think they need more time to get things in order as it looked like they were short staffed and service was a little slower than expected. Overall, in a location with so many HK style cafes to choose from, I would probably revisit this one in the future when things have settled.

This place has really improved. $13.50 for mustard chicken steak meal with soup and hot drink. An excellent dish and great value. I find the dishes here are larger than average.

Its at the Langham Square plaza area not far from the Kennedy plaza on south of Hwy 7 Kennedy area. Here is what we ordered: Pineapple Bun w/Butter- $7.95 comes with hot drink Cheung Fun Noodles w/ Siu Mai Fish & fishball I believe- $9.45 with hot drink. Hainese Chicken w/Rice - $11.95 First off, the pricing of this place is really good and much less expensive vs other HK cafe we've been to. Secondly, everything we ordered is standard for most part, except, the hainese chicken rice which was the most common dish ordered and now we know why... The rice has flavour of the chicken oil and fat, and the chicken though not the most tender or slippery they call it in chinese, but good enough. The star was the sauce they provided which is 3 types: one sweet dark soy sauce like, ginger scallion sauce and their chili sauce... All these were very very tasty along with the flavoured rice! You must give it a try if you remotely enjoy cold chicken with these amazing sauces... I only wish they sell the chili sauce because that is very tasty!

It was my first time here, and the experience started off on the wrong foot. I had barely sat down, not even 30 seconds, before a staff member was already hovering over us trying to take our order. I hadn't even had a chance to look the menu yet, which immediately made things feel rushed and uncomfortable. The space itself is quite small, and they won't let smaller groups of two people or fewer sit in the booths, which adds to that cramped and slightly stressful atmosphere. There's people hovering nearby watching if you're almost done. Overall, the entire dining experience felt rushed from start to finish. The food is cheap, I'll give them that, but unfortunately the quality reflects that. I ordered a sandwich and it was sloppily put together. The bread slices were not even aligned properly, where the top slice and bottom slices were in opposite directions, making it so you couldn't pick it up. Flavour-wise, I was hoping for more of a Hong Kong cafe style satay beef, but this wasn't it. The curry was okay, with some decent chunks of meat and potato, but nothing particularly memorable. What really left a bad impression was the payment experience. Their debit machine defaults to 12%, 15%, or 18% tips calculated after tax, with no upfront notice or custom option. Tipping is not mandatory in Canada, and it should be up to the customer based on service. When we asked about it, the response felt as if we were being made to feel cheap over "just a few cents". Honestly it is not about the amount, it is about principle. If you are just looking for a quick and cheap bite, this place might do the job. But considering the long lines and how rushed the experience is, you might end up waiting longer than you actually get to sit and eat. Personally, I will not be coming back. I would rather get takeout or dine somewhere that lets you actually relax and enjoy your meal.

I am never the hop-on-the-bandwagon trendsetter. Good Catch Cafe and Bar has been in downtown Markham for a few years. I decided to come here for an early dinner after work on Wednesday for the first time. This eatery is a part of The Origin, the mall that includes a Cineplex, Goodlife Fitness, Chatime, and more. This eatery has its entrance facing Enterprise Boulevard. When you're parked at the parking lot across from it, it gives you the impression that the entrance is by the patio. Maybe you can enter and exit this side door when it's summertime. I see a lot of references in a number of Yelp reviews here to this eatery being Good Catch Boil. I remember when it was more of a seafood place when it first opened for business. It then meandered into a Hong Kong-style eatery, which is the case today. I'm guessing that the boil trend wasn't as popular over time. I walked in. I looked at a screen to check in. It was probably 4 pm and it wasn't terribly busy. I passed. A female server came over and asked if I was dining as a party of one. I nodded. She pointed me to a booth. I was pleased and sat myself down. It was comfy. It's kind of like a sports bar, but it's casual. I caught up with the Blue Jays loss against the Yankees the night before. By the end of my dining experience, this restaurant had good music playing that made dining here more upbeat. She came over with a bunch of menus. She also had a printed QR code. I could either order online or wave at any staff member to place my order. Nice! There are daily specials. You get a free drink with your order if you drop by between certain afternoon hours. I decided to order through the online menu and got these items: - Iced lemon Ribena - Curry fish balls (15) - Wonton noodle soup Service was wonderful. The female server got me water and my iced lemon Ribena. I love the latter drink so much. It was excellent. It had the perfect amount of lemon with Ribena, all iced. The water was also great. It was cold despite not having any ice cubes in it. My curry fish balls came out first. The curry smelled so good. I loved each curry ball that I stabbed with a skewer and dunked into the curry sauce. Each fish ball was bouncy and yummy. The sauce had a slight spicy kick that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd get them again. A male server came over with my bowl of wonton noodle soup. I had maybe ten different noodle options to choose from, from ramen, to udon. I choose thin noodles. If you want a noodle pull, you'll easily get it here. The noodles were delicious, long, and so good. They weren't clumpy. Perfect! I was surprised that I got broccoli. I ended up submerging the florets in the broth. They started off on the crunchier side. They softened up nicely and I enjoyed how healthy eating each floret made me feel. I am used to getting bok choy or no veggies with wonton noodle soup. It was nice that I got something different. The wontons were excellent. They had shrimp in them, which I am thinking that the seafood part of this business is still there. I loved the green onions in this bowl of deliciousness. The broth was perfect. It wasn't overly salty. I could taste sesame oil that was aded to it. I paid at the table. The female server asked if I was paying by cash or card. I rarely have the former on me, so it was my credit card. I tipped and tapped, and thanked her for everything. Staff are so nice here. I'd come back just for the service alone. The food and drink were amazing, so I'm definitely a fan who wants to return for more good eats and drinks. I used the washroom before leaving this eatery. When you walk into this restaurant, the washrooms are straight ahead, followed by a right turn. It was cool seeing bowls of noodles being made by kitchen staffers as I passed by to get to the washroom. The women's washroom was spacious and clean. No complaints. I'm so glad that I finally dropped by this eatery. At least three restaurants have closed recently at The Origin. I'm glad that this one is still thriving. I'd love to grab a bite to eat after a movie or simply come here to enjoy good Hong Kong-style dishes. (214)

It also came with a drink so I ordered the horlicks. My husband got the bbq pork & egg on rice and the classic HK milk tea, which always hit the spot. Next time we'll probably try the seafood boil!

When discussing the drinks/combos, we got a little confused from the wording on the menu while we were ordering and the waitress serving for us was... lack for a better word, a bitch about it. The server lacked clarity and had a real mean attitude. Was giving off annoyed vibes and expressing it outwardly with their voice and their facial expressions; not sure that's the kind of service you're going for in the hospitality industry. I was trying to get my drink changed to a cold one from the dedicated drink and thought I followed the wording but was wrong. The wording on the menu is specifically for HK style drinks being in a cold form. Not a separate cold drink entirely. That was a simple clarification that would have been appreciated instead of the bickering and back and forth fuelled by annoyance. Out of two servers, one is much more pleasant than the other. Food is excellent. Passes the Chinese parent's standards for the cook of the fish and tofu for R13, as well as the peppery-ness of the AF9. The lamb skewers were phenomenal. Ambiance wise, it was cozy and quiet. Not very busy when we came, there were small groups of under 4 after us but no more than 4 tables total even at 4:30pm. Besides the altercation at the start, this place is a gem for the price and size of the food. Tastes great and feels mostly great!
