I'm pretty sad that MayDoh closed down but this place took over and the place looks so cute! You walk in and there's tons of decor and it feels like an old school diner. I was greeted right away and they gave me some hot tea. The breakfast combos were decently priced (I mean nowadays, you get breakfast for about $15 and it's already average pricing). The day I went to get breakfast, they didn't have the pineapple buns ready so even at 10am, I wasn't able to get my pineapple bun with butter. (sad face!) Their milk tea that day was VERY milky (lots of evaporated milk) and not enough of the tea flavor, so I was quite disappointed in that. Food is good and it's a full restaurant 11:30am on a Monday maybe because it was during the holidays? What you do is go in and put your info on the ipad and then you'll get a text message when your table it ready. It is very small inside and the tables are very close. Having been to both locations many times, I can say their food quality and service is consistent. Whenever I come on the weekend, there is always a very long wait (20mins+) for breakfast and lunch, unless you come right when they open. They do have a device to enter your name and party number for the waitlist and they text you when the table is ready. My favourite lunch dish is one of their baked items - the baked tomato with rice or the baked curry with rice are both good. For breakfast, their classic macaroni in soup combo is my go-to. I haven't tried this place since the old MayDoh closed down a long while back. We ordered the black pepper chicken rice and the baked spaghetti. The black pepper chicken had a level of spice and really heavy garlic flavour. But it wasn't really the black pepper flavour so we were a bit disappointed. The baked spaghetti is nice! It's a bit sweet, good salty sauce, very fresh tasting veggies. All the food came out hot and fresh, which was great, especially on a cold day. The restaurant is quite small so it can feel a bit cramped and noisy. The windows don't seem well insulated either so in the winter, it was quite cold by the window. Location/Service This place is located in Denison Centre - the plaza intersection of Kennedy and Denison. It's nearby Dollarama - so you can't really miss it. Plenty of parking around. Inside is very retro and modern at the same time - with a lot of the HK Cafe vibes setup and nostalgic signs and lingo. Staff were very nice and food service was very fast. Food Like other trendy HK cafes, they offer a wide variety of signature dishes like baked rice, scrambled egg, french toast and milk tea related drinks. I tried the scrambled egg with cha siu, baked pork chop rice and HK french toast. All of them were pretty standard and good. I like how smooth the scrambled eggs were - and they didn't cheap out in quantity. Same thing with the pork chop fried rice, although the dish looks a little smaller than you think. I like how saucy it is and the pork chop is boneless so very easy to eat. The french toast was pretty standard, not too big of a surprise here. As for drinks, I did the milk tea - which is smooth and consistent to other places. Lemon tea was also good too. Overall, I think this is a nice place around the neighbourhood. Their original location is from HK - so I like how they brought their elements over. An authentic Hong Kong cafe experience that is worth experiencing. My wife ordered the BBQ Pork Scrambled Egg on Rice and the portions were quite generous. While the BBQ Pork was cooked well and the egg had good flavour, the overall dish was heavy on the soy sauce side and salty. Be aware that there is a lot of rice. I ordered the Baked Curry Sauce w/Cheese (Chicken steak) and it was delicious. It comes with some potatoes baked along side, which was a nice touch with the curry sauce. I also ordered a hot HK style milk tea and it went well with the meal. The service was quick and staff would address our table, despite the busy business hours. It should be noted that interior design really tried to mimic the HK style environment with the wall decorations and crowded seatings. This should be a quick bite and go environment. A classic HK cafe, no-frills seating and all the dishes you'd expect. It was quite busy in the morning, with lots of families getting their breakfast combos. We were lucky and didn't need to wait, but we were seated basically knee-to-knee with another family in order to make it work. The prices are fair, a bit higher than the old days but priced as you would expect a HK cafe to be. Their menu was surprisingly condensed - I'm not sure if they gave us a breakfast/lunch only menu. It did have items like baked rice, so I assumed that was the entire menu. I honestly didn't mind, as I often get overwhelmed with menu choices. I ordered a noodle combo and my boyfriend ordered a curry baked rice. Everything was $31 all in. I would say the curry baked rice was a hit - the taste was good and the portion was fair. It was a lot of rice, but there was enough sauce where you could eat it all if you wanted to. My noodle soup was a bit overwhelming, but typical of such a restaurant. I wasn't a biggest fan of the ramen noodles, I wish they had some other options. They may have them but I wasn't aware of them - vermicelli would have been a lot better. The Chinese name of Chrisly Cafe reminds people of the golden era of Hong Kong pop music and culture. They are supposedly affiliated with the HK cafe that was owned by some of the former heavy hitters who worked for the former HK music production giant, Capital Artists (Wah Sing). The cafe in Hong Kong was often frequented by artist and celebrities like Eason Chan. While most of you who is not from that vintage won't care two hoots about what I just said, you have to understand that there's a certain amount of nostalgia involved with this place. I've been to Chrisly twice and I'd say their scrambled eggs alone is worth the drive. I'm extremely picky about scrambled eggs and I don't often order them since they are mostly overcooked and poorly done. I really have to hand it to them, as the eggs were buttery, fluffy, and velvety smooth. They cooked the eggs to perfection. As a side note, their satay beef vermicelli was solid and is not overly salty. However, I will not recommend their curry pork chop bun which was given a thumbs up on their menu. The bun itself was huge, but the taste is mediocre. The curry is the HK style which did not have the spice complexity of other kinds of curry. For an HK style curry, it's exactly what I expected and the flavour is actually ok. But the issue is there was zero trace of spiciness and the sauce was lukewarm in temperature when served. The pork chop was pan fried which is a plus, but the marination did not jive with the curry flavour. The pork chop had a strong rice wine marination, probably to get rid of any unwanted porky taste. If this was strictly a garlic/ black pepper pork chop rice, it would have been ok, but it just didn't go well with the curry. The cut of meat was also not the best as it had lots of fat and tendon, HK milk tea was solid; probably heavier on the milk side. It had a smooth finish. I can foresee some people wanting a stronger tea, but I think it is an above average cup of HK milk tea. While the pork chop bun should have dampened their rating, but because their scrambled eggs were so exceptional, I had to upgrade their score to a four! It's that good. read more

One of my favourite HK style cafes. My go-to is their cart noodles (i.e. build your own - choose the noodle type, soup base, and toppings). The green onion chicken steak is also a crowd pleaser. The cold lemon tea here is always delightful - perfect amount of sweetness and tea flavour. They have a separate breakfast menu as well as an afternoon tea menu with items you can't get any other time. Would recommend the chocolate banana French toast if you're craving something sweet. A new Hong Kong cafe that is super busy and packed! Came here to check out the new Hong Kong cafe and first thing I noticed before walking in was the abundance of people waiting around. They have an ipad once you go through the first set of doors that you insert your own information number of people in your party. It's tight in there to even get to the ipad since people are waiting inside that little narrow hallway. I decided to step back outside to wait for my call. I had a party of 2, and I got the call instantly once I walked outside the doors. Not a problem, simply just walked right back in and got my spot. The service here is quick and the servers are super nice. It's all the classic foods you'd expect at a Hong Kong cafe. Things I got: Fried chicken with spring onion on rice 4/5 - Tasty rice dish with the chicken cooked perfectly. It paired nicely and the portions were great for one person. Baked pork chop tomato rice 4/5 - Another classic that is a must get. It was good and again was a great portion size. Pineapple bun with butter 5/5 - I really enjoyed this. The bun was nice and warm and melted some of the butter inside while still having the thick slice of butter nice and cold on the outside. Lemon tea and milk tea were both also great! The food is good. Indeed quite consistent with the other Chrisly Cafe in Berczy. Just a bit smaller in store size. Good deco too. But the service here is just poor, well below bar I would say. Inexperienced staffs, obviously not trained well enough and sent to serve clients. Not one but two separate disappointing experiences with two different staffs. The owner should really gear up the staff training for existing employees or hire someone who is really capable to manage a team of inexperienced staff to ensure good service. I love HK cafes, so I had to try this place out. Sadly, everything I had was only OK. I visited here on a Sunday afternoon around noon, and it was very busy. The wait time was about 30 minutes, but they had a kiosk to wait in line and leave your phone number. I ordered some of my favorites for the sake of comparison. The spaghetti bolognese somehow came out a bit dry despite being a meat sauce dish. The pineapple bun in my sandwich was not particularly tasty. The milk tea was decent. Overall, if you are in the direct area and have a craving, Chrisly Cafe is sufficient. But if you want top notch HK cafe food, I would go elsewhere. read more

Located at the Denison Centre located at the Southwest corner of Kennedy and Denison. There is plenty of parking even during the crazy weekends. The shop is newly renovated with booths and many 2 tops pushed together to form 3 rows of 12 seats. The seating can get quite packed if all seats were occupied with 2 tops having very little room to move about. So far the restaurant is quite clean and you can say quite sterile as it seams a little bare. The staff are definitely still learning the ropes or at least the crew I had were definitely learning the routine as I was sitting to order for 10+ minutes as some took lunch, some were chit chatting and I think one was just sitting there resting. I went to order a baked rice with drink and I had to repeat myself 4 times so the order could be entered into the tablet... it was not that loud inside. I was later informed there were no more baked rice options... fair game... I opted for the fried chicken leg and 5 minutes later someone came out to inform me... it will take 15 minutes to cook. I looked at them puzzled and said, yes, I know, please proceed. Then she repeated herself to indicate it will take some time. I acknowledged and said I was in no rush and will wait as if she wanted me to change my order again. Then reluctantly she went back to confirm my order with the kitchen... which burned up another 7 minutes. As I was waiting for my replacement meal, the table behind me that came in after my order had 2 piping hot baked rice dishes delivered to them!!!! I thought I was suffering from hunger and hallucinating but my nose confirmed it. Ok... did I not brush my teeth or had excessive B.O. that they did not want to serve me? I had time to look around and see one wall had all the menu items up in graffiti fashion, where the back wall leading to kitchen and washrooms had a semi open drinks kitchen to see your drinks and food be passed from the kitchen. The my meal finally came and it definitely was hot and was provided a little cup of ketchup for the fried chicken leg and fries (McDonalds shoestring) Food was ok but with all the rough edges that need to be smoothed out, will definitely give them some time to iron out the kinks before thinking of returning. One more thing. There was one server that was wearing the nitrile gloves cleaning the tables but this person was also taking orders (no harm there) but was serving the food and collecting money... I think the Covid times have come and passed... a good wash with warm water and soap will do us all a big favour than to keep using the one time use gloves read more

Another addition to Denison Center slowly making it a node of HK cuisine. Chrisly Café is a HK café hailing from Hong Kong opening its first store in Canada. And it has all the characteristics of a HK café: cheap, fast and great. It is a small establishment with lots of wait staff so service a top notch, considering a HK café. The décor is similar to the modern HK cafes around Markham now: minimal with neon signs. Egg luncheon meat sandwich - Egg was creamy and fluffy. Not over cooked, but not as runny as I'd like. Luncheon meat was cooked but not seared. The bread was soft and lightly toasted. The bread itself was massive, maybe like 15 cm x 15 cm. HK style toast with peanut butter - The exterior was not crispy, but inside was fluffy. The butter was plentiful and delicious and the syrup on the side was good so you can control your own sweetness. Would ask to get the toast extra crispy next time. Milk tea - The cream had a slight savoury aftertaste and had overpowered the tea flavour. I feel like they went heavy on the cream because it was advertised as some Danish cream. But would try the coffee next time. It does get busy so I would recommend coming back at off peak hours. Ultimately, food was decent, price was good and quantity was loads. Went for afternoon tea on a Sunday. We got lucky and only had to wait for like 5 minutes. Otherwise, the wait would maybe be 10-20 minutes. It was so buttery and delicious, but not crispy, and peanut butter was unevenly spread, so certain parts had not enough pb. The syrup is nice. The HK milk tea was pretty standard. Chrisly Café is one of the most authentic Hong Kong style cafes I have tried in the GTA recently and I wanted to share my experiences with the rest of you. Baked Tomato Sauce with Cheese (Pork Chop): The pork chop is tender and juicy, the tomato sauce sweetness and sourness level are just right, and a lot of cheeses on top which I love. The portion may look tiny but it is very filling. Swiss Chicken Wings: The Swiss soy sauce does not taste the same as the Hong Kong restaurant that invented the Swiss soy sauce but that is the typical case for all Hong Kong style cafes. Their own formula of Swiss soy sauce is not too sweet and salty. Unlike other places, the chef slow-cooked their chicken wings in the Swiss soy sauce and fused the flavor inside the chicken wings. Pineapple Bun with Butter: A typical Pineapple Bun with Butter which they did most of the things right. The Pineapple Bun itself is warm and the Butter is thick/cold enough. The only downside is the pretend Pineapple topic is not crunchy on top of the bun. H.K. Curry Fish Balls: The curry flavor is strong but not too spicy. Their fish balls texture is above average by Toronto café standards. Overall, I experienced above-average customer service from their staff trainee when compared to other Hong Kong style café in the GTA but some of my relatives disagree. Plenty of seats and I find it to be a very cozy cafe. Free parking in the plaza as well. I'm absolutely stunned by their helpful staff and great service! Lineup/queue up using the tablet at the front before planning your visit because they're almost always busy! This is a HK cafe situated in this "nostalgic" asian plaza on Kennedy/Denison where Fortino's used to be! (Now you know which age group I'm in, but let's focus on the food more #LOL). If you're wondering what's still in this plaza, you should definitely check it out because there are quite a few hidden gems (restaurants) here and I hate myself for not RE-exploring this place soon enough! Our Food: Club Sandwich - Fully Stacked! The scrambled egg was cooked nicely and I love how they used a ranch dill sauce instead of mayonnaise and I loved it! They also added corned beef to stack with the egg ,ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato which was quite tasty! Having the bottom layer on its own was already so filling, but in a good way! (I had to pack half the sandwich home because I eat super slow and wanted to enjoy this without creating a huge mess at the table :p). The tomato pork chop rice as you can see, had real tomatoes in their sauce so it's not as thick as the bright red artificial ones out there, less salty for sure! The pork chop was quite tender & nicely seasoned, and the shredded cheese was just right to not taste super cheesy if you know what I mean! We also ordered the Butter Condensed Milk toasted on a Bun (no photo) and as simple as it gets, it was so delicious! Personally, I have to say that there aren't many HK cafes in Toronto that have good quality food + whole-hearted staff combined anymore, but this place makes good food and you actually feel welcomed here! Hubby and I have dined at Chrisly Café on a few occasions. This Hong Kong style café is part of a chain of Cha chaan teng cafes. They offer a number of typical Cantonese style favorites, including instant noodles, macaroni dishes, heartier rice and noodle based dishes, sandwiches, pineapple buns. With each meal you can choose from a variety of drink options, such as Ovaltine, Lemon Tea, coffee, and Hong Kong style milk tea. We have tried their chicken curry (which was very flavourful), egg & beef and egg & barbecue pork on rice. Their scrambled eggs are so smooth and delicious over rice. I had the baked chicken steak with tomato sauce and cheese on rice on this latest visit and despite their being chunks of pineapple in this dish, I liked that their food was served piping hot, and portions were generous. This place is usually bustling, so expect a bit of a wait. They do have a tablet at the entrance to join the waitlist, and they will call you when your table is almost ready. Disclaimer: visited during their soft opening so things may change. Came for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty busy. They have a staff member writing down your name and phone number for the wait list and calling people on the list and it was a bit messy since you could see lots of empty tables as they're trying to reach customers. An online waitlist system would be beneficial here. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated with Hk-themed neon signs, but there's still a lot of finishing touches that have yet to be added (there isn't even an actual business sign yet). The prices are on the higher end (especially relative to the previous HK cafe that used to be there) and portions are small for the price. Quality is so-so. The baked pork chop rice sauce was a bit sour and there was very little rice. The deep fried chicken leg was a bit dry. Service was on the bad side. The 10% discount during their soft opening was nice, but all in all it felt like they aren't really ready to open yet. I tried their satay beef instant noodles & sandwich with hot drink combo & it was quite filling. Nothing beats a simple Hong Kong cafe meal with a simple broth & flavourful satay beef. Quite underwhelmed by Chrisly which is unfortunate given the lovely venue and nostalgic vibes of HK cafes. Pricing wise I would say its on the steeper end for HK cafes these days. In light of portion size, smaller than competitors nearby as well for the price. Satay Noodle 3/5 - overall good satay flavours, not too salty or oily which is nice but not enough satay sauce to coat the noodle base. I generally get it with macaroni which you can do so here as well. Overall good, but nothing special for the price. Scrambled Eggs 3.5/5 - quite silky smooth but the texture resembles the loose slow cooked scrambled eggs, which is nice and creamy. Wouldnt mind eating this but also a bit steep in price so not sure if I can justify. Bread itself was nice and soft, fluffy. Dont think they make it themselves but does taste fresh. Omelette was quite expensive but with corned beef filling it added a nice saltiness to it. Overall the meal was average. Pricing was steep. Seating is not the greatest as the restaurant is quite small. Quite vibrant in color though. Would like to try their evening/lunch meals, but as for breakfast unsure if I will return specifically for their food. read more

I enjoyed the combo of noodles and egg and toast. The truffle egg is very delicious and I would say is the equivalent of 8 eggs in this one hour so lots of protein. Service was good and efficient and orders came fast. read more
