Was looking for a HK cafe in the area and this one was the close. Entrance is inside the small mall with the grocery store and bakery. Staff was nice and attentive to our needs. Hainanese chicken rice - Bone in chicken rice. Came with lots of ginger scallion oil but was heavy on the ginger. Rice was yellow, but lacking chicken flavour. Nice to try, but would not get again. Salted fish and chicken pieces in fried rice - Staple in HK cafes and they made the pretty decently. The plate was huge portions, see pic as the takeout box was only half of the plate. Fried rice was pretty standard, good amounts of both proteins, but missing that nice char flavour. Note to bring take out containers, I was charged an extra fee to get a take out containers!

We come here often for lunch on weekends. It's always so packed during the weekends so come early! The lunch specials and all day breakfast are such a great deal - comes with a drink as well. The ham and egg sandwich is a must get - tastes just like what you would get in Hong Kong. We will be coming back next weekend!

Pine House Cafe appears to have become a neighborhood staple in the few months I've noticed it. Situated in the convenient location right beside Sunny Supermarket, it's a great option on the weekend right before or after grocery shopping. The restaurant opens at 11AM and will normally have a line-up a few minutes beforehand. Once it opens, they seat you strategically so the people near the door are people first in line, and they take your order starting from that side. If you arrive before 11:10 or so, I'd say you have a high chance of getting into the first seating. Our group of three ordered three different lunch combos. The price I noted for everything was between $12 - $18. These combos come with a drink (+$1 for a cold beverage) and soup of the day. When coupled with the generous portion of the entree, this is an extremely good deal in my opinion. You could even share two entrees amongst three people, depending on what you order. I saw many older couples sharing one order of Hainanese chicken. Pictured is the Hainanese Chicken, Black Pepper Beef, and Portuguese Chicken on Rice. As you can see, the portions are big! The taste was also great and what you would typically expect of a HK cafe. The service is very fast, if hurried at times.

I come here on occasion when I need the cha chaan teng on HK fix and I'm around the area to do grocery shopping. They have an all day breakfast that's affordable and a large menu of dishes that will meet your palette. Their lunch dish portions are huge and is meant to be shared or taken home as leftovers. Staff seems to be understaffed and a lot of pressure to get work done, so it's best to have a good idea on what you have in mind what you want before sitting down. There also seems to be a bias for them to act more favourable to regular customers, so you may not get the best customer service. I ordered the macaroni ham soup dish and egg sandwich combo. The soup base used a stocking that wasn't too salty, ham is thick, and macaroni was cooked to proper texture. The thick egg and salty beef was great, very generous with portions that fill you up. I would say this is slightly above average. Milk tea was decent, but nothing noteworthy. Seating is limited due to it's popularity, so it may be difficult to have a conversation. Things are very rushed and you may have to call out the waitress for your bill and to order. Overall, it's a decent place to go to, but you'll probably have to wait for a seat.

Between 2-2.5 stars We went around 11:30 am on a holiday Sunday. There was one table empty when we arrived. We checked in with a passing server to let her know how many were in our party. She kept assuring us that a table with a gentleman was leaving soon. Turned out he wasn't leaving because he had paid, but hadn't gotten change back yet. Once we were seated and decided what we wanted to order, it took a while for a server to become available to take our order. This was the theme during our meal. It's like the servers and other staff were running around with their heads cut off in a panic. At the table next to us, the diners attempted to ask a staff member that brought out their food for something, but the staff only replied that it wasn't her responsibility before the diner could ask the question. At the table on the other side of us, those diners ordered a drink, but since it had taken so long they wanted to cancel the order. When they attempted to speak with a staff the staff just said that they were swamped and knew about the drink order. Apparently listening skills are lacking with the staff. The manager should seriously consider putting more staff on during busy times and training them in proper customer service. Parking is another issue. This plaza's parking spots fill up very quickly since most of the businesses are restaurants. TL;DR The food and portions are decent, but service is severely lacking.

Average Cantonese cafe in a busy plaza. Our waitress was new, but attentive. The pork chop was the best of what we ordered and was a generous portion. The meals also came with borscht soup, which was tasty. All our dishes arrived very quickly after ordering even though the restaurant was very busy at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. The chicken was a bit bland and had lots of gristle, so I wouldn't recommend this dish. Overall, a good spot for a quick meal but nothing special.

It is a very very local hongkongness restaurant . It has famous baked pork chop with fried rice. It's huge and cost 14.99 with soup. Lunch will also include coffee and tea. The Russian borchst is always make perfectly in Hong Kong style. I tried the Hoi Nam chicken with rice, it is improved and taste very good. It's very busy during lunch and weekend. Service very fast. Since it is family restaurant, the setting is casual and family friendly.

This is becoming one of my favourite HK cafe spot in North York area. They offer a pretty wide range of dishes from noodles, to baked dishes to rice dishes. They even have all day breakfast such as vermicelli soup which comes with egg sandwich. Lunch menu gets you a combo with soup and drink. The lunch dishes are big portions where I couldn't even finish! Everytime I go, it's been very consistent and really enjoyed their food. I love their baked dishes but my favourite is their pork neck with rice. The combination makes this very tasty and I would reorder this again. They serve soup in a mug which I initially thought it was strange but it works! Some things to be aware of before you go: - lunch time gets pretty packed, especially weekends. Expect at least 15-20 min wait - for groups of 2-4, you may be sharing tables with another 2-4 people, but separated by a plexiglass - they do accept credit cards except amex. No discount on cash - there is a charge for take out box, but you're also welcome to bring your own Overall, I enjoy the food and atmosphere, and certainly will be coming back when I'm in the area.

I was looking for a Hong Kong themed cafe because i wanted simple comfort food that has free parking. Pine House Cafe in North York checked all these categories. When i got there at around 4pm, the restaurant was busy. I think it's because there is a special afternoon menu for fairly cheap that includes a drink for free. I ordered a bowl of luncheon meat with egg rice noodle soup. It took a while for it to get to me. The guy beside me who came later got his order first. The egg was carelessly cracked with shell still on it. And the soupbase was bland. Although cheap, i was disappointed. I would have made a better bowl of soup noodle myself.

Nice modern decor with comfortable booth seating. Good value for your money as their dish portions are large. Their hainanese chicken was a standout, chicken meat was fresh and silky. Tomato pork chop rice was enormous and flavorful. Their breakfast specials with noodle/soup, drink and an egg sandwich was very filling Gaining popularity as evident by the crowds on weekday morning/afternoons

Decent. Portions are fairly sized and price is good too. Nothing to write home about. Pretty standard HK cafe food. It gets pretty busy on a weekend evening and they close relatively early.

Newly opened in the Leslie/ Finch plaza. Plenty of parking out front. There are plenty of seating options to accommodate any party size. The service is definitely on the slow side and you have to flag them down for everything ... (not expecting this from an established chain of restaurants// cafes) The meals come with either soup/ or hot drink. Not soup and hot drink like many other HK cafe's. The food is nothing special and will wait for this establishment to iron out the kinks and decide of a return. The door open into the shop and a fire hazard if an evacuation is needed.

Not my favorite plaza to be in as it gets quite busy and is difficult to find parking (the drivers themselves make it a little chaotic), but thankfully, stepping into the restaurant itself, I found the place to be more spacious than I expected. Generally, quite clean as well - including the women's washrooms with two decently sized stalls. Service itself was friendly, but casual. Food wise, we ordered the... 1. BOLOGNESE ON RICE: I loved that there was plenty of sauce over (yellow, not fried though?) rice. The sauce itself was slightly sweet, more on the tomato-side, and quite garlicky. Definitely wish there was more melted cheese on top, but overall, tasty. I'd say it was good but not amazing (and/or not my favorite rendition of this dish). 2. HOMESTYLE STIR-FRY VERMICELLI: I really enjoy this dish. It was flavorful but not overly oily/greasy. There was a good mix of veggies, alongside cut up pieces of BBQ pork but the winner was the shrimp which were good in size and very tender to bite into. For both, portions were good. Both of these meals came with our soup of choice: either between the Chinese soup of the day or borscht soup. I had the borscht which was very flavorful and had lots of other ingredients like potato, cabbage, meat, and even whole cloves of garlic! It seems like their theme is to be heavy on the garlic in every dish that requires it, no complaint from me. No drinks included with the meals, which I was slightly disappointed about. Note: I've attached photos of their most recent menu as of today.

First time seeing chicken + yuzu at a cha cheng teng. What took me by surprised was the potato salad. It was definitely made in house, with chunks of apples, carrots, red onion, ham and eggs. Love how it was also not dose in miracle whip. I chose the Chinese soup (instead of western style) and it was flavorful. I would said better than most Chinese restaurants who gives for complimentary soup for dinner. There was minimal MSG, as I didn't feel thirsty afterwards. The HK milk tea was the weaker component of this set, the tea base was lacking in flavour and didnt have the "thick" texture to it.

It was perhaps one of the best I've ever tasted in recent years, after visiting countless HK tea restaurants. The tomato sauce itself is perfect - sour and sweet in the best way possible. The pork chop? Excellent. Not only is it super fresh (unlike how it is sometimes served in other Hk tea restaurants), but the texture, the cut and the flavours are all perfect. The uniquely juicy thick cut was nicely coated in panko and cooked to crispy perfection. Every bite is a satisfying, pleasant surprise. While it is not the cheapest in town, it comes with a free drink (and the ice drink is the same price!) I will definitely come back often.

One requires 3 steps up into a larger dining room, the front entrance area with 3 tables and a bar counter type from the previous Japanese restaurant. Now for the food. The portions are huge! The pork chops occupied half the box. For you "rice buckets", you may be disappointed. But as for flavour... I feel the flavours were lacking. The pork chop was breaded heavily and did not carry much meat flavour. The sauce was very one dimensional. The "highlight" per se was the 2 sunny side eggs that I was able to enjoy with the rice. The whole place feels like an old‑school fast‑food Chinese café, almost like an uncle‑run spot from 30 years ago that never updated its recipes or flavours. They've kept their prices low, but the taste just hasn't kept up with the newer fast‑casual Chinese cafés where flavour and value go hand in hand. I'd honestly rather pay a bit more for better‑tasting food. Here's what we tried: - Curry Chicken Rice: The curry sauce was bitter and barely ladled on, and the fried chicken was overcooked, jerky dry texture. Tons of rice, but not enough sauce to bring the dish together. - Pork Chop with Maggi Sauce: The flavour was better, but again, it needed more sauce. The plain white rice made the whole dish feel dry and boring. - Bolognese Spaghetti: Surprisingly the best dish of the night. They were heavy‑handed with the sauce, though it didn't have much meat. Still, it tasted decent -- but honestly, it's something I could easily make at home. If you need a place that will fill you at good price and favor is not important this would be the place for you. Overall, great service but very average food. Nothing stood out enough to make me want to return, especially when there are so many better options nearby.

But due to their inconvenient location, I haven't given them a try until now. While Cantonese songs were periodically played on their speakers, none of their servers seem to speak Cantonese as their mother tongue. Honestly, I don't care what language they spoke if the food was tasty and authentic. I ordered a recommended item off the menu, the baked tomato pork chop rice, and I wouldn't say it was exactly authentic. The portion was small and the prices were higher than most HK cafes. You are definitely paying the North York (high) rent tax here. The sauce on the rice was ok, but it tasted a bit too artificial. The batter on the pork chop is not really HK style. The rice was just plain rice and sadly not stir fried. The only plus was they were generous with the cheese. The cheese lovers would love it (and I'm one of them), but it's definitely too much for a HK style pork chop. Sometimes there is too much of a good thing. The HK milk tea was not memorable. Aside from the novelty of the HK style decor, and prime North York location for those who live in the area, I don't see the appeal of this place.
