    Chicken rice combo
    Biyu X.

We suddenly want to try a new cafe restaurant. This was the one my husband recommended. We came in by seated. My baby needed a high chair, they put the high chair on top of the regular chair, which was a good idea. It's doing the 2nd dish 6.6%. So the lower priced dish would take 6.6% when paid by cash. We ordered a chicken rice combo ($17.99) (it comes with a cup of hot drink) and a fish noodle soup ($15.99). Both of them came really fast. But there was NO vegetable in them. We expected to have a few pieces of veggies since both were a bit expensive. We asked the waitress, any veggies we would need to extra order.

Came here for a quick lunch with my friend. We usually go to the Markham location so this is my first time here. This place is pretty much the same size as the other location, lots of seats with chairs and booths available. Service is fast, they attend to you immediately and food comes out faster than the drinks. I got the pad thai as always. This is still my favourite pad thai ever tasted so far and I always get no beansprouts, those should get arrested for always being on this dish... Phoenix's pad thai is just so good! The amount of spice they put is perfect too since I cannot handle that much spice at all. My first time ordering this rice dish and it was really delicious! They have this sweet-like sauce in it which blends well with the masago taste and seafood ingredients. I ordered another to take home with me because it was that good! Of course I'll be coming again to Phoenix either here or the other location!

HK style cafe with a big menu. Lots of ongoing deals as well such as buy one entree get second for a percentage off or two can dine for a certain price. The two can dine combo comes with red bean fleecy drinks but can be subbed with any of the normal lemon teas or milk tea. We usually get the two can dine and I get the egg with deep fried pork cutlet in stone bowl. Portions are pretty big and I love the sauce. I also ended up getting their afternoon tea special of the French toast. Toasted to perfection! Could be a bit thicker though! Some of their other dishes are a bit hit or miss but can't go wrong with the tomato sauce pork chop on rice.

The menu is huge but I came here to try their Hainanese chicken. It wasn't really my favourite but it was boneless and the rice was dry. I came around prime dinner time on a friday, it was a bit busy. It was really hard to get the servers attentions and I saw a lot of people struggling to get their attention as well. Flavours were just lacking a lot with the noodle as well :/ The vanilla ice cream toast was nice, toast was warm topped off with condensed milk and fruit. Maybe I'll come back to try more items next time. Restroom was clean and parking might be hard during dinner time.

Phoenix is an institution at this point. You don't get a lot of HK Cafe franchises, but this is the one that's top-of-mind. They are always serving consistency. While they have a lot of the HK Cafe classics, I find that they're a bit more fusion-y as well. And of course, the menu is a mile long, as any good HK Cafe does it. Price is always great. They're not cash only but a lot of their deals are cash-only deals. Right now they're doing a "Buy one, get one 34% off" deal. Couple months ago, they had a $25 deal for 2 entrees and drinks. Even at full price though, it's great to grab a full meal for under $20 in this economy. Just a note, they did take Hainanese Chicken off their menu. In case that's what you're in the mood for. We saw a table walk out in disappointment when they learned it wasn't there anymore and it was the only thing they were craving.

Been coming here for years! Just visited after a long time & noticed they've done some renovations. The menu prices have gone up quite a bite since I've last been here, but service has improved. Food quality has always remained consistent, and I'll always love their iced chocolate drink & 鴛鴦 that's prepared without ice (not one bit watered down)!

Baked Pork Chop on Rice (Japanese Style)

Over 9 years ago I provided a one-star rating because of a 'bad apple' working at this restaurant. About a decade later, I bump it up to a five-star. Sure, parking can be hectic on any given weekend. But service has improved and the food which we ordered was fairly priced and oh so delicious! We ordered the Baked Smoked Duck Breast with Honey Mustard Seed Sauce with Rice and the Japanese Style Baked Pork Chop on Rice. The rice was heavenly, the sauce was sweet and tangy and the meat was so juicy and tender. Bravo on the improvement. I'm now a happy camper!

I don't usually come here often as I find their food is a bit pricey compared to other Chinese cafes in the area. I ordered an instant noodle with satay beef and eggs, it was just okay decent.

LOVED this. Stirfried udon with bbq pork
    Michelle T.

I always love their breakfasts but I've gotta talk about their udon. I got the stir fried udon with bbq pork. It came out steaming, that's how you know it's got wok hei. If you are not Chinese, I have no idea how to explain it but it's when the chef uses enough fire and wok technique to give it that extra flavour. Tons of pork, loved the udon. It was perfect. Ambiance is casual as usual. Lots of families and people from literally all age groups. I suggest coming before 10 on weekends or at 11:15 onwards.

Satay Beef w/ Vermicelli and HK Toast

I have been missing my HK cafes a lot and this place really hit the spot. Have all the usual favorites and decided to go with satay beef w/ vermicelli and HK toast. Comes with a drink and I chose hot lemon black tea. Food came out pretty quick and the price point was good for what I got. Portion was good for brunch. Beef was nicely seasoned and condensed milk + milk toast is always a winning combination.

yunnan vermicelli w/ fish fillet in fish broth
    Jason M.

Outside of the baked rice/noodle dishes, this place is avg imo. They do serve big portions which is nice. It's your typical HK cafe. The parking lot here is pretty decent and usually there isn't that much trouble finding parking. It's tucked in a plaza right across from the police station in markham. My go-to is usually a baked chicken dish with added cheese. The beef chow fun is surprisingly decent (can't eff that up right?) For soup noodles the only one I can really recommend is the yunnan vermicelli in fish broth. Haven't tried any of the other soup noodles on the menu. The other rice or noodles (the ones that are NOT baked) are actually kinda hit and miss. One of my friends has ordered spare ribs with string beans over rice and she received too many bony or insanely fatty pieces of rib which means the meat quality is slightly lacking. My other friend ordered fried pork chips over rice and the pork chips were slightly on the dry side. Phoenix is like the fast, casual meal that you go to with your friends if you can't think of anything else to eat (I can't even call it affordable tbh because they raised their prices so much).

    Hainanese chicken
    B H.

Rated only 3 star because of value. The food and drink is not bad depending on the dish is between 3.5 to 4 Star. The price has gone up significantly, they try to off set this with a promotion... buy 2 meal set the second dish pay 66%. Without this promo, the price is ridiculously high for a HK style restaurant! Granted, the food is not bad... Especially the cold milk tea, I highly recommend it. My recommendation come in pairs to try this place before their promotion expires.

Minced meat with hot milk tea

Always my favourite place to go to for Hong Kong style meals. Wait staff was good. I feel like I am home when I'm there... the closes vibe to Hong Kong... for me. For now lol.

Its at the Langham Square plaza area not far from the Kennedy plaza on south of Hwy 7 Kennedy area. Here is what we ordered: Pineapple Bun w/Butter- $7.95 comes with hot drink Cheung Fun Noodles w/ Siu Mai Fish & fishball I believe- $9.45 with hot drink. Hainese Chicken w/Rice - $11.95 First off, the pricing of this place is really good and much less expensive vs other HK cafe we've been to. Secondly, everything we ordered is standard for most part, except, the hainese chicken rice which was the most common dish ordered and now we know why... The rice has flavour of the chicken oil and fat, and the chicken though not the most tender or slippery they call it in chinese, but good enough. The star was the sauce they provided which is 3 types: one sweet dark soy sauce like, ginger scallion sauce and their chili sauce... All these were very very tasty along with the flavoured rice! You must give it a try if you remotely enjoy cold chicken with these amazing sauces... I only wish they sell the chili sauce because that is very tasty!

It was my first time here, and the experience started off on the wrong foot. I had barely sat down, not even 30 seconds, before a staff member was already hovering over us trying to take our order. I hadn't even had a chance to look the menu yet, which immediately made things feel rushed and uncomfortable. The space itself is quite small, and they won't let smaller groups of two people or fewer sit in the booths, which adds to that cramped and slightly stressful atmosphere. There's people hovering nearby watching if you're almost done. Overall, the entire dining experience felt rushed from start to finish. The food is cheap, I'll give them that, but unfortunately the quality reflects that. I ordered a sandwich and it was sloppily put together. The bread slices were not even aligned properly, where the top slice and bottom slices were in opposite directions, making it so you couldn't pick it up. Flavour-wise, I was hoping for more of a Hong Kong cafe style satay beef, but this wasn't it. The curry was okay, with some decent chunks of meat and potato, but nothing particularly memorable. What really left a bad impression was the payment experience. Their debit machine defaults to 12%, 15%, or 18% tips calculated after tax, with no upfront notice or custom option. Tipping is not mandatory in Canada, and it should be up to the customer based on service. When we asked about it, the response felt as if we were being made to feel cheap over "just a few cents". Honestly it is not about the amount, it is about principle. If you are just looking for a quick and cheap bite, this place might do the job. But considering the long lines and how rushed the experience is, you might end up waiting longer than you actually get to sit and eat. Personally, I will not be coming back. I would rather get takeout or dine somewhere that lets you actually relax and enjoy your meal.

I am never the hop-on-the-bandwagon trendsetter. Good Catch Cafe and Bar has been in downtown Markham for a few years. I decided to come here for an early dinner after work on Wednesday for the first time. This eatery is a part of The Origin, the mall that includes a Cineplex, Goodlife Fitness, Chatime, and more. This eatery has its entrance facing Enterprise Boulevard. When you're parked at the parking lot across from it, it gives you the impression that the entrance is by the patio. Maybe you can enter and exit this side door when it's summertime. I see a lot of references in a number of Yelp reviews here to this eatery being Good Catch Boil. I remember when it was more of a seafood place when it first opened for business. It then meandered into a Hong Kong-style eatery, which is the case today. I'm guessing that the boil trend wasn't as popular over time. I walked in. I looked at a screen to check in. It was probably 4 pm and it wasn't terribly busy. I passed. A female server came over and asked if I was dining as a party of one. I nodded. She pointed me to a booth. I was pleased and sat myself down. It was comfy. It's kind of like a sports bar, but it's casual. I caught up with the Blue Jays loss against the Yankees the night before. By the end of my dining experience, this restaurant had good music playing that made dining here more upbeat. She came over with a bunch of menus. She also had a printed QR code. I could either order online or wave at any staff member to place my order. Nice! There are daily specials. You get a free drink with your order if you drop by between certain afternoon hours. I decided to order through the online menu and got these items: - Iced lemon Ribena - Curry fish balls (15) - Wonton noodle soup Service was wonderful. The female server got me water and my iced lemon Ribena. I love the latter drink so much. It was excellent. It had the perfect amount of lemon with Ribena, all iced. The water was also great. It was cold despite not having any ice cubes in it. My curry fish balls came out first. The curry smelled so good. I loved each curry ball that I stabbed with a skewer and dunked into the curry sauce. Each fish ball was bouncy and yummy. The sauce had a slight spicy kick that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd get them again. A male server came over with my bowl of wonton noodle soup. I had maybe ten different noodle options to choose from, from ramen, to udon. I choose thin noodles. If you want a noodle pull, you'll easily get it here. The noodles were delicious, long, and so good. They weren't clumpy. Perfect! I was surprised that I got broccoli. I ended up submerging the florets in the broth. They started off on the crunchier side. They softened up nicely and I enjoyed how healthy eating each floret made me feel. I am used to getting bok choy or no veggies with wonton noodle soup. It was nice that I got something different. The wontons were excellent. They had shrimp in them, which I am thinking that the seafood part of this business is still there. I loved the green onions in this bowl of deliciousness. The broth was perfect. It wasn't overly salty. I could taste sesame oil that was aded to it. I paid at the table. The female server asked if I was paying by cash or card. I rarely have the former on me, so it was my credit card. I tipped and tapped, and thanked her for everything. Staff are so nice here. I'd come back just for the service alone. The food and drink were amazing, so I'm definitely a fan who wants to return for more good eats and drinks. I used the washroom before leaving this eatery. When you walk into this restaurant, the washrooms are straight ahead, followed by a right turn. It was cool seeing bowls of noodles being made by kitchen staffers as I passed by to get to the washroom. The women's washroom was spacious and clean. No complaints. I'm so glad that I finally dropped by this eatery. At least three restaurants have closed recently at The Origin. I'm glad that this one is still thriving. I'd love to grab a bite to eat after a movie or simply come here to enjoy good Hong Kong-style dishes. (214)

When discussing the drinks/combos, we got a little confused from the wording on the menu while we were ordering and the waitress serving for us was... lack for a better word, a bitch about it. The server lacked clarity and had a real mean attitude. Was giving off annoyed vibes and expressing it outwardly with their voice and their facial expressions; not sure that's the kind of service you're going for in the hospitality industry. I was trying to get my drink changed to a cold one from the dedicated drink and thought I followed the wording but was wrong. The wording on the menu is specifically for HK style drinks being in a cold form. Not a separate cold drink entirely. That was a simple clarification that would have been appreciated instead of the bickering and back and forth fuelled by annoyance. Out of two servers, one is much more pleasant than the other. Food is excellent. Passes the Chinese parent's standards for the cook of the fish and tofu for R13, as well as the peppery-ness of the AF9. The lamb skewers were phenomenal. Ambiance wise, it was cozy and quiet. Not very busy when we came, there were small groups of under 4 after us but no more than 4 tables total even at 4:30pm. Besides the altercation at the start, this place is a gem for the price and size of the food. Tastes great and feels mostly great!
