We suddenly want to try a new cafe restaurant. This was the one my husband recommended. We came in by seated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My baby needed a high chair, they put the high chair on top of the regular chair, which was a good idea.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's doing the 2nd dish 6.6%. So the lower priced dish would take 6.6% when paid by cash. We ordered a chicken rice combo ($17.99) (it comes with a cup of hot drink) and a fish noodle soup ($15.99). Both of them came really fast. But there was NO vegetable in them. We expected to have a few pieces of veggies since both were a bit expensive. We asked the waitress, any veggies we would need to extra order.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is pretty much the same size as the other location, lots of seats with chairs and booths available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is fast, they attend to you immediately and food comes out faster than the drinks. I got the pad thai as always. This is still my favourite pad thai ever tasted so far and I always get no beansprouts, those should get arrested for always being on this dish... Phoenix's pad thai is just so good! The amount of spice they put is perfect too since I cannot handle that much spice at all. My first time ordering this rice dish and it was really delicious! They have this sweet-like sauce in it which blends well with the masago taste and seafood ingredients. I ordered another to take home with me because it was that good! Of course I'll be coming again to Phoenix either here or the other location!
HK style cafe with a big menu. Lots of ongoing deals as well such as buy one entree get second for a percentage off or two can dine for a certain price. The two can dine combo comes with red bean fleecy drinks but can be subbed with any of the normal lemon teas or milk tea. We usually get the two can dine and I get the egg with deep fried pork cutlet in stone bowl. Portions are pretty big and I love the sauce. I also ended up getting their afternoon tea special of the French toast. Toasted to perfection! Could be a bit thicker though! Some of their other dishes are a bit hit or miss but can't go wrong with the tomato sauce pork chop on rice.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I came around prime dinner time on a friday, it was a bit busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was really hard to get the servers attentions and I saw a lot of people struggling to get their attention as well. Flavours were just lacking a lot with the noodle as well :/ The vanilla ice cream toast was nice, toast was warm topped off with condensed milk and fruit. Maybe I'll come back to try more items next time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restroom was clean and parking might be hard during dinner time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
Phoenix is an institution at this point. You don't get a lot of HK Cafe franchises, but this is the one that's top-of-mind. They are always serving consistency. While they have a lot of the HK Cafe classics, I find that they're a bit more fusion-y as well. And of course, the menu is a mile long, as any good HK Cafe does it. Price is always great. They're not cash only but a lot of their deals are cash-only deals. Right now they're doing a "Buy one, get one 34% off" deal. Couple months ago, they had a $25 deal for 2 entrees and drinks. Even at full price though, it's great to grab a full meal for under $20 in this economy. Just a note, they did take Hainanese Chicken off their menu. In case that's what you're in the mood for. We saw a table walk out in disappointment when they learned it wasn't there anymore and it was the only thing they were craving.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Just visited after a long time & noticed they've done some renovations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu prices have gone up quite a bite since I've last been here, but service has improved. Food quality has always remained consistent, and I'll always love their iced chocolate drink & 鴛鴦 that's prepared without ice (not one bit watered down)!
Over 9 years ago I provided a one-star rating because of a 'bad apple' working at this restaurant. About a decade later, I bump it up to a five-star. Sure, parking can be hectic on any given weekend. But service has improved and the food which we ordered was fairly priced and oh so delicious! We ordered the Baked Smoked Duck Breast with Honey Mustard Seed Sauce with Rice and the Japanese Style Baked Pork Chop on Rice. The rice was heavenly, the sauce was sweet and tangy and the meat was so juicy and tender. Bravo on the improvement. I'm now a happy camper!
I always love their breakfasts but I've gotta talk about their udon. I got the stir fried udon with bbq pork. It came out steaming, that's how you know it's got wok hei. If you are not Chinese, I have no idea how to explain it but it's when the chef uses enough fire and wok technique to give it that extra flavour. Tons of pork, loved the udon. It was perfect. Ambiance is casual as usual. Lots of families and people from literally all age groups. I suggest coming before 10 on weekends or at 11:15 onwards.
I have been missing my HK cafes a lot and this place really hit the spot. Have all the usual favorites and decided to go with satay beef w/ vermicelli and HK toast. Comes with a drink and I chose hot lemon black tea. Food came out pretty quick and the price point was good for what I got. Portion was good for brunch. Beef was nicely seasoned and condensed milk + milk toast is always a winning combination.
Outside of the baked rice/noodle dishes, this place is avg imo. They do serve big portions which is nice. It's your typical HK cafe. The parking lot here is pretty decent and usually there isn't that much trouble finding parking. It's tucked in a plaza right across from the police station in markham. My go-to is usually a baked chicken dish with added cheese. The beef chow fun is surprisingly decent (can't eff that up right?) For soup noodles the only one I can really recommend is the yunnan vermicelli in fish broth. Haven't tried any of the other soup noodles on the menu. The other rice or noodles (the ones that are NOT baked) are actually kinda hit and miss. One of my friends has ordered spare ribs with string beans over rice and she received too many bony or insanely fatty pieces of rib which means the meat quality is slightly lacking. My other friend ordered fried pork chips over rice and the pork chips were slightly on the dry side. Phoenix is like the fast, casual meal that you go to with your friends if you can't think of anything else to eat (I can't even call it affordable tbh because they raised their prices so much).
Rated only 3 star because of value. The food and drink is not bad depending on the dish is between 3.5 to 4 Star. The price has gone up significantly, they try to off set this with a promotion... buy 2 meal set the second dish pay 66%. Without this promo, the price is ridiculously high for a HK style restaurant! Granted, the food is not bad... Especially the cold milk tea, I highly recommend it. My recommendation come in pairs to try this place before their promotion expires.

I came here during tea time and they have a few combo menus you can order from. Meal for two $30.88, choose two dishes and get two red bean drinks included. I ordered: - Fish Fillet in Pickled Soup - Fried Chicken & Pork Chop on Rice (I chose cream sauce) The dishes were decent, and portions were big. The two meats you get from the rice dish were big too. I think it's definitely worth the price. Staff are nice and service is fast. I like their milk tea which is smooth. The spicy pork chop with Maggie sauce with rice is performed excellence. The club sandwich is good with tomato, lettuce, beef and ham. Haven't been here in years, but went today and saw they had a Cash Only Meal for 2 for $30.88. Options are pretty good, with some of the typical dishes that HK cafes carry. Also was able to substitute the Red Bean drinks that come with the deal for drinks of same or lesser value. Service was a little slow considering it was not that busy, but normal for a place like this. Overall good portion and food was good. read more

Been coming here for a number of years. Their Hainanese Chicken dish has always been a favourite and is consistently delicious. Tried their pork chop with Maggi sauce this time as it was cold out. Spicy food lovers will definitely love this dish. Healthy amount of meat with lots of flavour while not being overly deep fried like most other chinese restaurants. Be sure to order a cold drink if you're trying this dish! Only main issue is that service can often be forgetful until it comes time for the bill. read more
First time I actually sat down for a meal at Phoenix Cafe! I usually just order the hot milk tea and pineapple bun to go to be honest. This time, I was craving a hainanese chicken dish. I rarely crave this dish, but my korean friend could not stop talking about it the night before. After reviewing a few spots around the area, ended up going to Phoenix Cafe cause supposedly it is one of their signature dishes that is only served (**until they run out**). So if you go around 8pm at night, there's a chance you might not get to order this dish. But they do have other popular dishes and is a perfect spot for families craving breakfast or HK style foods. Verdict: Chicken: TENDER AF!!! No BONES!!! and they give you quite a bit of sauce with your order. Price : I ordered the hainanese chicken with chili oil (Not sure what the difference is between the hainanese chicken with Ginger Sauce) cause the first option gives you both chili oil and a bit of ginger sauce. The option I went for was $16.50 whereas the ginger sauce option is $20.50 .... I guess an additional cost for GINGER SAUCE??? not sure Temperature: Warm, not cold. Nor extremely hot. Portion: Pretty big portions! hit the spot for sure!!! And comes with clear broth soup Overall Presentation: Looks salivating and glossy lol I meant the chicken Rice: White Jasmine rice with 2 slices of cucumber Will for sure come back to try other items!!! This is a kind of restaurant you'd go to in the morning if you were hungry and there were no other options besides heavy breakfast food. The breakfast menus come with drinks, which are the best part of the meal! Ordered a fried pork chop with udon (the other option was instant noodles) ~$7.25 and thought it was good enough to finish and hold off my hunger until lunch. The restaurant was quite busy too in the morning and the staff was friendly! read more

Debit & cash only. One of my go to restaurants for lunch. They have the best Hainanese chicken rice, in my opinion. I still til today have not found one that I like better than theirs. Their other dishes never disappoint either, my other favourite dish is their pork neck meat on rice with maggie sauce. Quick in and out hk cafe, clean, and quick service. read more

I want to start by saying this restaurant's food is phenomenal. This is Phoenix Restaurant at 1 Raymerville Dr #10, Markham, ON L3P 5J5. Tel: (905) 471-6536. There is a reason why I am giving them 1 star and it is for customer service and lack of listening to the customer effectively. I went there one Saturday morning to order breakfast. I got the mini steak, with eggs and a bun. I told the waitress that I would like an extra order of sausage. She said okay. Then she brought my meal out and I said where is my side of sausage and she says it is right there. I said where and she pointed to a container that had sauce in it. I said, I didn't order sauce, I ordered SAUSAGE. I said take the sauce back because they charged me extra for it. She said she would take the sauce back but I would still be charged. Then I called the Manager over and explained things to her. She said no charge for the sauce. Then I explained I wanted extra sausage. She looked at me in Horror. I said what is the problem. She says that is an extra charge for sausage. I said I know that it would be an extra charge and to please get me the sausage. She reluctantly said okay. My sausage came after I finished my mini steak, eggs and bun. I had also finished my coffee by the time the sausage came. By the way, the mini steak and eggs was a small portion for the price. Please see the attached picture of it. I also included a picture of the sauce she gave me instead of sausage. Please do not waste your money and go to this place. They need to increase portion sizes for the price they are charging and they need staff who listen and communicate effectively. Save your Money. I've been here many times before covid, but with their latest promos, you can consider me a regular. This place never disappoints and has basically installed barriers in every corner of the restaurant. At the front, you are directed to measure your temperature and staff take orders extremely quickly. The portions are pretty large, and quality is still maintained. I always like it when restaurants spend the extra time, effort, and money to ensure their staff and potential customers are safe. Hats off to this establishment. I'll continue to be a customer. read more
Reason for Visit: Been a while since I visited Phoenix so giving it a try again. Menu: So for my table of 2, we got the fish soup noodles and the clam cream baked spaghetti. Prices are a bit on the higher side, close to ~$15 per dish. I do note the portions were a bit smaller than other local HK cafes. The plating is definitely more well done than other local HK cafes. Overall, it was fine in quality, definitely up to my standards, but I found the portions just significantly smaller. Service: Average. Typical for HK cafe. Atmosphere: Much cleaner and better renovated than other local HK cafes. Overall: Not bad to go for a casual meal for dinner. Not the best value but if you are in the area, not a bad option. Tasty food for a slightly higher price. read more
If you're looking for Hong Kong style breakfast this is one of the places that opens early (8am) in Markham. Free parking in the plaza. We were lucky as a party of 10 on a Sunday at 9am. They were able to fit us in but 2 tables. Their "largest" table size if 6, unless you're lucky to get the booth where you may be able to push the tables together. We split up into 2 tables obviously. Picture below are a few things of what we ordered and remembered to take pictures of. The pineapple bun with butter is standard, but meets the craving satisfaction. The color could be better because it definitely looks burnt/over toasted. I had the Satay beef vermicelli, the beef was really tender, soup flavorful with satay taste too. One of my son had the macaroni with ham, which he liked, I didn't try so can't comment on that. My other son had waffle, he gobbled that up I guess it was good lol. Service was fast. Note there's a charger for take out containers. Not a bad place for HK style breakfast. read more

This is where I get my takeout all the time and that is at least once a week. The food is always good, at least the ones I always order. My favourite is the Korean spicy meat rice, any of the noodles in shark fin soups. I would stay away from the pricey set dinner, they are not good values and not that tasty! I don't like their curry dishes as much as I found they put too much coconut paste in them. My favourite drink here is the grass jello ice drink with icecream, but be warned not to drink that if you are on a diet! They put condensed milk as sweetener.... taste so good though! BTW, if you go for lunch, this place is so busy, so prepare to wait! read more
Hainan chicken with rice. That's it. Deboned, full of flavour, nice silky texture. I was reminded by our good friend the last time I ordered something else I regretted it and forced my husband to share his chicken with me. Rarely do we ever order the same item but here, it's a given. No regrets from now on! read more
I've debated for a week whether or not to write this review. In the end I feel that the events that transpired and the lack of communication and customer care from management need to be addressed. So my husband and I order from here quite regularly. Last week, on Canada day, we decided to order some takeout. I ordered my usual - mini steak baked spaghetti. I'm more than halfway through finishing my meal when what do I find? A ripped fingertip plastic glove buried in my noodles!!! It was really gross. I appreciate that the workers are wearing gloves during COVID to prepare meals but how does a fingertip end up in my food with no one noticing?? I call the restaurant and inform them of what happened. The employee is apologetic but says that the manager is not in that day and asks me what I want to do about this. I politely ask for a refund and she offers me a credit instead! I calmly tell her I am no longer comfortable eating anything from the restaurant and that I would prefer a refund. She takes my name and number down and says that the manager will be in on Friday (in 2 days) and will call me back then. Less than 10 minutes later, the employee calls me back and says that I can come in for a refund that day and is again very apologetic. Now, I want to be as fair as I can with this review. The employee that I dealt with was very polite and apologetic. The issue that I have is after this happened, NO ONE (manager or owner) called me to apologize or reassure me that they have taken steps to prevent such a thing from happening again. I understand that accidents happen but at a time like this I feel that the lack of customer care does not instill any confidence in this establishment. I am weary of their food handling protocols and will no longer be giving them my business. Diners beware. read more
Since the pandemic started, I ordered from Phoenix only 2x despite it being one of my family's regular weekend lunch spots. But because my command of Chinese is less than ideal, it was a hassle trying to navigate ordering over the phone. I'm simply too lazy. NOW - they have an online order form and organized the interior so the direction of traffic is clear. No more people milling around! They also introduced a Children's menu. It's clear to me that Phoenix is making efforts to stay competitive by making smart decisions during these crazy times. They got my business back. I always liked their Hainanese chicken read more
This is probably the most consistent HK style cafe in the area, including all the other Phoenix locations. Nothing amazing but the food is consistently good and there is enough variety that there's something for everyone. It is pretty family friendly as well. My go-tos are usually the BBQ pork shoulder and fried egg with rice, satay beef with vermicelli, or the spicy fish filet with noodles in fish broth. Their cuttlefish ball noodle in fish broth used to be very popular but I am finding it increasingly bland compared to other places like Deer Garden. They have an afternoon tea menu which has the typical afternoon tea fried chicken leg/wings and HK style french toast which are all pretty good, plus a selection of their regular dishes at slightly discounted prices. read more

I've been going to Phoenix ever since I was a child and it was always one of my childhood favourites. Back in the day it was a little more upscale as the prices were a little higher than many other HK cafes, but over the years the prices of other cafes have gone up. It's a pretty popular place for lunch and they usually have super long line ups. They have many options from Hainanese chicken to pad thai to HK style french toast and their price point is around $10-13. Their portions are pretty inconsistent. For example for their vermicelli in fish broth has very little noodles but their pad thai is more than enough for one person. They usually have more meat than rice/spaghetti for their baked dishes. Their french toasts are very delicious. I love the one with the black sesame filling. Overall, I love Phoenix and it is definitely one of my goto HK cafes. read more

I've gotten a lot of things here before and most are about average like their soup noodles or sandwiches my favourites are listed below: Hong Kong style hot dog $5.5 4.5/5 - taste very good and has two sausages in a bun but just a snack Spicy udon with chicken $10 4/5 - has a big portion to share with 2 people and a good spicy kick western fried rice 4.5/5- big portion for two people taste so yummy love the sausages and tomatoey taste this is my go to!! yang Zhou fried rice 4.5/5- big portion for two people and has good flavours hainese chicken 4.5/5 - flavourful chicken that is juicy and good portion Overall good Chinese restaurant and you'll definitely find something you like here. read more

It's tucked away in an unassuming plaza, but gets really packed! Modern decor, fast service, slightly above average prices for fairly good food. The HAINANESE CHICKEN is boneless (say WHAT? yeah!), and is very tender and juicy. I can see why it's so highly regarded, especially with the standard sauces complementing it very well The rice is slightly less flavourful than I've had, but it's not bad. All in all, a good dish. The CURRY NOODLES, though, were pretty... disappointing. Potatoes were very few, and the ones that were there were pretty much like rocks. Overall, quite bland. Portion sizes are nothing to write home about, but it's decent. Everything else is pretty average. As I promised, I will revisit this location because of the current promotion. Even their food quality stays the same but I had a bad experience with my 2nd visit. My friend arrived 10 minutes before me and she complained to me that no one greet her, no water, and no menu at all. When I arrived, he table was empty. So I was trying to get someone give us the menu because we need to ORDER food. It took another 10 minutes. It was a Thursday night and it was not busy compared to my visit on Saturday lunch. So after we finally placed order and got a glass of tea, I realized I need sugar for my milk tea. It just hard to get someone to come over to our table even a waitress told me she will come in a minute but did not happen. Will I come back again? Probably not. read more
