I absolutely love this restaurant I've been here several times and used to come weekly with family and friends. They really care for their customers and want you to have the absolute best hookah. WOW!! This is truly the worst place I've ever encountered in Burbank. 1 Star is too generous! I guess if you are an 18 year old who likes smoking hookah, it may be an okay place to hide in the dark and think you're cool... But for the average person, it was just awful. The food was over priced and small portions (except for the rice, which they filled the plate with to make you think you were getting a lot). There is NO NON SMOKING AREA AT ALL!!! The wait staff is rude and is not familiar of their own menu. There was no air on and NO VENTILATION. The decorations are a cheap banquet hall feel with uncomfortable chairs and wobbly tables. We went outside to escape the smoke and still had to deal with the smokers out there as well. The creepy old man, possibly owner, was quick to say he is permitted for smoking. And the small "Coffee Place" in the courtyard is part of Gitana as well. Just gross! I would avoid this place all together. Reviews made it sound like a restaurant with a hookah lounge. The entire place is a hookah lounge. And a bad one at that! I'm shocked that Burbank City Council would allow a place like this in Burbank. The public walk way and parking structure is exposed to all the smokers. Just not acceptable. read more

Oh boy! How this place has fallen, for the past three years we had large events at Gagtana's but after the service we experienced this last event they have lost our business. Bartender - probably a young kid trying to make drinks by google searching the recipe, I'll take the guessing out for all of you, get a beer and be happy with it. There is no mixology happening here. Waiters - seems to be overwhelmed with the amount of business coming in, very slow service. Chefs - food is good depending on what you order, from reviews of our party their pizza is one of our favorites. But, the service is again slow from the kitchen, appetizers took 35-40 minutes. Entrees over an hour. My recommendation if you choose to come here place your food order right away so you don't loose your appetite waiting. Hookah - good depending on who is working on your bowl. They do overall a good job and will comp out a bowl if you don't like it. Overall experience was mixed, but for a resturant in burbank I would say this place has lost its touch, they had great employees here in the past but it seems to me bad management and ownership has destroyed this place. Service here was VERYYYYY slow, we waited at least half N hour to get our food.. There was just 1 guy working so we had to look for him every time we needed something.. he would appear for a few seconds than disappear again for 20-30 mins.! I went with my friends during the day so i dont know if it gets better at night! The food was ok.. i got the chicken shawarma and a mixed platter for starters.. the shawarma wasnt the best but it wasnt bad.. and the mixed platter was good except for the hummus! Love this place! I came for the hookah so the review is purely for that. Walked right in and was seated right away outside. I thought the hookah was only outdoors but the couple of times I walked inside I saw people smoking in there too. There's an abundance of heaters outdoors and it was actually warmer outside than it was inside! Our server was great! She was patient, knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive. Their menu is huge too, in both hookah, foods, beverages, and desserts. We opted for the Starbuzz hookah tobacco watermelon flavor and it was yummy! It lasted a good 2 hours too. It was $21 for the hookah, but when you smoke there's a one drink minimum. That's pretty standard for most hookah joints though. I got the rose water as a drink thinking it'd be light and flowery water but it's more syrupy so I wasn't a huge fan. Once it watered down a bit though it was ok. They've got Starbucks here too! Though Cafe O is right next door, do yourself a favor and come here instead! It is so much better! It gets pretty crowded as the night goes on though, so make sure you get in! Side note: I was fascinated by this antique they've got displayed near the restrooms (which are nice and clean by the way!) called a pay phone. I haven't seen one of these in years! Do people actually still use them? Are there really people walking around out there without cell phones? I ordered the nachos and steak and egg (fries) and a nutella and banana sandwich (dip fried) Well our nachos were cold didn't come with beans and our steak and egg (fries) were old soggy and tbh had to much wasabi and other spices that didn't work well with the other ingredients. Well with all this food in my house my fiance and I only ate our desert because appetizer and main course was NOT Good Tasting. If you are hungry just get yourself a desert and most likely you'll have to pick it up because minimum delivery is a WHOPPING $35 minimum! read more

It's hard for me to write this review based on stars and I really wish Danny (the owner) was here to talk about this issue with him directly Me and my work team come here EVERY day for lunch break. We are usually a group of 4 that always get food, hookahs, drinks, etc. The morning/afternoon staff is amazing, they take great care of us and know us because we're here basically 4 to 5 times a week. Danny, Mike (no longer working here), Cristina, Chris are the best. HOWEVER... there's a manager who's name I don't know, pink hair girl, who is the rudest person...she used to work the afternoon shift and we complain about her attitude before. Tonight we came to enjoy ourselves after work and she was here. From the moment we sat down we were ignored and about 15 min later she came to take our order. Once it was placed she said we had to order drinks as there's a 1 drink per costumer rule, which is understandable. We get a Diet Coke and 3 waters for now, having in mind two of us would order something else later. She sends a waiter with 2 cokes to our table and we nicely said we only order 1. She yells at her "charge them for 2 drinks" to make it obvious we didn't order enough drinks. The whole time she would walk by our table talking about us with the obvious intention for us to hear her. They bring ONE plate, currently waiting for our second plate (its been morE than 25 min and no food yEt) so now I'm thinkIng it's obvious this wait is being on purpose as a "punishment?". Unfortunately for us, she's the manager. Unfortunately for her, we are regulars and if I see Danny in person I'll make sure to let him know of this awful experience. I don't know what's her deal but she doesn't know how my day has been either, and if you come to a place you usually visit, it's because you feel at home. I feel bad for the rest of the staff because it's not their fault. Highly suggest that if you're going to be serving people, at least be kind. She doesn't seem to have that problem with oTher costumers as she hugs and smiles with certain people. Hopefully her day gets better, her toe gets fixed (our nice waiter tried to use it as the reason oF her attitude) and she quits this job if she's unhappy in it. We'll be back, as alwaYs, but never during the night shift or not until she has a better attitude/is gone. This place is great to just stop by and have a great smoke! Extremely relaxing. Price is great and the service is awesome. They really stay on top of the charcoals, as well. Their food is a little over priced but it is SOOOO worth the price. Everything I've tried so far is so tasty and delicious. I usually like to stop by on weekdays. Weekdays is more relaxing and the servers are more tentative. Weekends they are a lot more busier so sometimes you will have to wait to get a table. Overall. Don't eat there! I ate there and nearly had to go to the ER, lucky it passed with a gallon of water. The food is left outside near the bar area at the street and sits in pastic buckets so nothing is refrigerated. Service was horrible, Manger walks around with a chip on his shoulder and constantly needs attention from the regulars. I got dirty looks from patrons and had to stop going there. This place could be a nice spot but seems like they only want regulars that are friends with the Manger to go there. I usually come here and Mike hooks it up, I love this place. But I've never had such bad service as I did on A Saturday night. The girls were new, I had never seen them before. First off, I got a dirty table because they think all their customers are that mediocre. Then calling the new waitresses for the bill was impossible. I couldn't help but wonder what happened with them. Obviously they have some issues back there...fix it because your customers should not be the ones getting the attitude. Love this place! The vibe of it is good, the prices for hookah are affordable that start from $11 & up. Refills depend on which hookah flavor you get and they're $5 & up. There's a minimum of 1 drink per person if you're there to hookah. Drink can be nonalcoholic or alcoholic. If you're going for price I suggest a soda..it's $2.50. There is a dance floor and dj on certain nights with a private VIP room. The employees are nice and help you out. There's food there, but I've never tried it. read more

Met a friend here for hookah. I've been to a few indoor and outdoor hookah spots in LA and Studio City. This place is more Americanized in comparison to all the other hookah joints I've experienced. My Persian friends introduced me to hookah a few years ago and took me to legit places that offered a variety of hookah flavors, traditional fares, and culturally relevant Middle Eastern music and dancing. I've been hooked since. I enjoyed the outdoor feel of this place. They played top hip hop and R&B music while sports played on a couple television screens and was also projected on one of the outdoor walls. They have outdoor heaters though it was still a little chilly and at one point it got windy. Soot was flying around and customers had to hold on to certain lightweight items to keep them from flying away. Some soot got into my eyes which wasn't very pleasant. My friend and I shared a tangerine flavored hookah. It was good. Ours kept burning hot (it was super sooty) and I couldn't smoke it for a while. We told our server and he fixed it immediately. It was smooth sailing afterwards. They offer a mixture of Middle Eastern and American food. The hummus we had was delicious! We ordered it twice because it was so good. The pita bread was fresh. The prices were reasonable. In my experience, more traditional places were more expensive. The service was great! The guy did a great job at making sure our coals were replaced often. The waitress continually checked on us to see if we needed anything. If you're looking to dip your toes into Middle Eastern culture and aren't ready to dive right in, this place is a good place to start. When you're ready for a more authentic experience, I would recommend trying out some of the more authentic scenes in Los Angeles. read more

Have only dined here via several to-go orders, due to staying in a local hotel and ordering through a delivery service, however, they've been amazing regardless!We are obsessed with Mediterranean/Lebanese food and flavors and everything we've tried has been so tasty and delicious. Because I'm Paleo and don't eat rice, I requested they sub for any veggies they had available and they sent so many amazing options. I have been coming to Gitana for the past three years and every worker who has helped me out and taken my order has been amazing. I loved the food the service and the ambiance. Recently I went to Gitana, I left my designer bag there and my driver's license and everything was it. I understand that is not Gitana's responsibility for my action of leaving the bag in the restaurant. But one of the female employees took responsibility and took my bag and my driver's License was already in it and she informed me that she shipped it to my house when I called the place to see if my bag was there. For the past 2 weeks, she has been constantly texting me on my personal number telling me I shipped you packed and if it's lost we will find it. The female waitress did not give me any tracking number. Her excuse for the loss of the tracking number was that she was on vacation and she lost her wallet. I told her no worries can you give the transaction receipt, email information, or even just tell me the date, the time, and how much you paid for the shipment so that way the post office can site where my bag is. I even asked her kindly to meet me at the post office three times and she consciously brought up an excuse every last minute to meet me there. As a female waitress at Gitana that hasn't even been working there for more than one year she claims that she's the owner of Gitana. I hope the owner reads my review understands the type of worker he hired to work for his restaurant who are claiming that there the owner and not taking responsibility of their action . I have left my laptop there before and my friends boyfriend has left his wallet there too and nothing happened.I enjoyed coming to this place and all the other worker were amazing beside this one female worker. read more

"MMMMMMMGITANAS!" That was what I used to say, but as of late the service has been lacking. This place has HUGE potential and I get when places get busy and staff is short handed or what not, but there have been multiple times we've sat with no one checking up on us even when we'd try to respectfully raise a hand. Once or twice and maybe even three times I get, but it's been the lack of service that has stood out unfortunately. BUT! Sometimes even though we sit for a bit being in a horrible term "unserved", the music is always amazing and the food is top notch! EXTREMELY WORTH IT! High quality food every single time we've come! Great job! The hookah is good. Just good. There's better hookah places but for the amount of options of food, hookah, drinks like beer, Starbucks, tea and wine makes this place one of a kind! The atmosphere is awesome and super chill. The staff are extremely nice and understanding, just overwhelmed as I can imagine. Other than that, Gitana's is a classic. Right next to Café O which can be confusing since you see hookah at either of these locations and you just automatically assume you are at the right location because when are two hookah lounges ever that close together. We stopped by around 11:30pm on a Saturday night and there was a decent crowd but not big enough were we had to wait for a table. Our server wasn't that pleasant and was pretty much nonexistent. The only time we saw her was when she was charging us a one drink minimum per person and when she came by looking for the standard 18% gratuity that's added on for orders over $50. The hookah was nice. The flavors we had were smooth and tasty. We did have an issue with one of them were something got stuck. It did take two people to fix but at least they fixed it? I wouldn't mind going again but I found it pretty obnoxious how they come up with the minimum since it practically guarantees that we will give them a 18% tip. read more

Terrible! Did not know it was a hookah bar and there's NO accommodation for non smokers. I asked to be seated away from others who smoked and told the waiter that I have severe asthma and allergies. He said no problem. The restaurant was virtually empty and within minutes he seated 2 people RIGHT next to me who immediately fired up a hookah! WTAF!? I had to keep my mask on between bites of food & drink but that didn't protect my eyes from puffing up! I asked that the tv be turned up so I could watch the NFL Sunday game. Had to ask 3 times before it was BARELY turned up. When I first arrived I had to hunt for someone to let me be seated. It was nearly 5 minutes of walking around and standing and calling out "hello" before anyone showed up. The younger of the 2 waiters was quite surly. Had to ask for the table to be cleaned before I sat down because there was food all over all the tables. Could not get a refill on my drink because the waiter was AWOL, but he started showing up with charcoal a lot for the 2 other tables of patrons in my section and he would deliberately rush away without checking on or acknowledging me. I had to get up and follow him to ask for service. The Falaffal was ok with plenty of pickles but only 2 little slices of tomato. The ful medames was HORRIBLE! Overcooked, tasted weird, WAY TOO much salt, ZERO lemon or garlic flavor. Barely garnished with about 1 tsp or less of diced tomato and hardly any fresh parsley which was over minced into mush. The pita bread was so dry and tasted like cardboard. They serve CHARBUCKS iced tea and refills are NOT free and VERY EXPENSIVE to begin with and then they were clearly resentful that I asked for water with lemon and I then I got warm water with NO lemon or ice. ALL Charbucks restaurants I have ever been to provide free refills and I told the waiter so and he had the lame excuse that "this isn't Charbucks" ( fyi: The iced tea at Charbucks is the only I thing there I can drink. I cannot gag their burnt "coffee" Swill down. But I e never bothered with a review of them) I have NEVER had to write such a negative review, in fact I've only written one other negate review and I still gave the 4 stars for effort and redeeming qualities. This place has NO redeeming qualities. I really don't want to hurt anyone's business, and I'm pretty sure my negative review will have ZERO impact as this is really highly rated by most people and that's great for them, but this is mainly for those who may want to know the things I learned the hard way. I HOPE the management reads this and may be a little more considerate and accommodating for non smokers and people who are vulnerable around smoke. I wish I had left before the smoking incident went down, but was starving and really craving Mediterranean food. It's been a couple hours and I just got home and had a chance to actually read the reviews and boy oh bo I wish I had done my homework's first. Turns out I am not alone in the BS from this place! They also charged me $6.00 for that iced tea that cost $2.00 at Charbucks and then. They tacked on an additional 18% gratuity without my knowledge, abusing my trust in addition to my taste buds, treatment as a customer and everything else. When you add all my complaints about this place: This is, BY FAR the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had! EVER!!! This place has such a wonderful atmosphere. We visited Saturday Night. The place was packed, but we where lucky that a table opened up just as we arrived. They have a really cozy patio area with little lights hanging in the trees surrounding us. Since it's getting chilli in LA, they conveniently have heating lamps scattered throughout. They have good hip hop playing in the background. The music is definitely not as loud as many of the Hookah places in Hollywood, so you can easily hold a conversation. The waitress was supersweet, wish I could remember her name. She recommended her favorite Hookah Blend which was soo good. And shared the Vegetarian platter which was the bomb. Really recommend this place for anyone who wants to go out and chill with friends without the crazy loud music and drunkeness that that the Hollywood Hookah places have. We rented there back room about 5 years ago for my son's 16th birthday. Had a wonderful time back then. I went back a couple of weeks ago looking forward to a wonderful visit and was very disappointed. Service was ok nothing to brag about at the beginning. I was almost ready to leave when a car full of kids drove by and threw water balloons on to the dining guests, twice. Could happen and not much could have been done to prevent it. But a lot could have been done afterwards besides the staff just standing there watching the guests. They could have offered a dry napkin for one. They could have walked out and apologized saying "folks as you can imagine there's not much we can do but we are sorry". Or something like we just called the police and there going to be driving by hoping to catch the tugs. Something, except just nothing. So sad. As for the cost, wow $$$. 2 appetizers, 1 drink, 1 hookah = $80 including a 10% check in offer and of course 18% automatic tip. read more

Ever have an awful experience at a place, then CAN'T wait to get home and read the yelp reviews and take comfort in knowing you're not alone? Well, I'm not alone in COMPLETELY despising this place, but am shocked to find that it has a 3-star average. What's wrong, yelp land? Fast forward a decade: I was asked to meet a couple friends here for smokes. To my astonishment, the place was still open for business. Same layout, same menu, gah. The memory of the first trip was instantly rekindled. But i'm older now (27) and more mature and understanding, right? We're seated. Waitress looks pissed from the onset, before a single word was exchanged. I should preface this by mentioning that I was a waiter for several years, and can usually sympathize with the plight of the service people -read my reviews, I rarely put down bad service, but focus instead on positive encouragement. But this was unwarranted, and the memory from a decade ago was fresh in my mind. Me and my girlfriend were really just going to say hello for 5 minutes, then leave. The place wasn't even at half capacity, so we opted to sit for a bit. The waitress was taking drink orders. The table ordered 3 hookahs, and a bunch of drinks. Our turn..."We're allright thanks." Then we got an eye roll, and a "uh, there's a one drink minimum here." AWESOME. I wanted to scream. "Ok, two hot teas, please." No acknowledgement, just a large dose of make you want to punch a wall attitude. Drinks came out fairly quick. They "proudly brew Starbucks coffee". Lame. No choice on the tea...I would've wanted something herbal, but instead we got Ceylon. It was good and hot. A friend got a small latte, which he returned because it was tasteless (yes, even in the starbux branded plastic cup)....MUCH to our servers dismay, and even more so to my enjoyment. BIG eye rolls later, she took the drink, and remade it. Woo. 10 minutes later, my GF and I were ready to leave. Our drinks were on a separate tab. $7, two hot teas. "There's a $10 CC minimum." Went to the ATM, got cash + ATM fees two ways, and the two teas will end up costing $10+. Oh but it's worth it because there's such a nice ambiance, right? Puke.
