During undergrad and grad school, I was a big fan of hookah bars and cafes. I'm big into middle-eastern food, so I kept frequenting them in the years after I quit smoking hookah. I recently got in touch with an old friend from undergrad, and he suggested we come here for food. I was game, and made the trek from the south bay to the Burbank area. Parking was a bit hard to come by, as I wasn't familiar with the area. I parked in a structure two blocks away, and made the short walk here. I liked the layout of the place. Some of the seating is under a large canopy, while other seating is in open air. There are flat panel TVs throughout the place, and I found the environment to be lively. My buddies and I sat under the canopy, and ordered some food while they delivered two hookahs. I took some puffs of the mint-flavored hookah. It was smooth, with some other flavors mixed in. We also sipped on iced tea, which was delicious and had a good kick of caffeine. The best part, however, was the food. We started with hummus and naan, which was delicious. The naan was soft and warm, and the hummus had the right mix of ingredients. The main course came to us about 15 minutes after ordering. And my goodness, the wait was worth it! The food was very flavorful, and the ingredients were of good quality. I don't remember the name of my plate, but reference my photos of this business. I got the sunny-side-up eggs on top of seasoned beef and a bed of rice. The food left me satiated, but not comatose. The experience here was overall amazing. Although the wait for service and food was a bit longer than other places, the quality of the food and drinks made the wait worthwhile. Five stars! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE DANY! the waiter ignored us all the time because his tip was already included in the receipt, we called another waitress to order something else and she said she would let our waiter know, and when she was telling him, he got to laugh sarcastically looking at us as if we were stupid. If your a hookah smoker you have heard of Gitana. In the past things have been a bit rocky with service at times. The past few months I have become a regular here. The service has been amazing and you can tell management has stepped their game up. Their food is amazing. My go to is the chicken skewers & the fatoush salad. For hookah they now have Regals and the quality has dramatically improved. They have a new cocktail list and I'm obsessed with the drinks Marry Me & Hot Girl Summer.The ambiance has shifted too. The place has definitely stepped in decor and overall vibe. New plants and over all zen feeling, which is nice and chill and different then other places. Parking is easy and free in the structure on Palm street. My favorite servers are DJ and Ashley shout out to them for the amazing service, and laughs. The prices Giana's now charges for a decent meal, drink and hookah are so outrageously overpriced, that I vowed to never come back again. 1 hookah is $35, are you kidding me!! Consistent 5 star rating ! I used to go here to hang out , eat, have hookah. However it's tough to get out as much as I used to (have kids now)! I always crave their food because I can vouch for them having the best fatoosh and wraps. So friend and I decided to go watch the last NBA finals at Gitanas. Let's just say we felt like we got robbed and let me give you the breakdown why we felt this way. we decided to order one pizza, wings, and hookah. The wings had absolutely zero meat on them dry no flavor whatsoever. The pizza was OK and the hookah was OK as well. At the end we asked for the bill and once we saw what the charge was, our jaws dropped!! keep in mind we ordered three items. Our bill was $104 with 18%. Gratuity charged. How can one business charge 18% Gratuity!? And imagine paying $104 for three items from the menu! Me personally will never step a foot in our business ever again. No wonder there was only seven people there at 7 PM. And the ambience felt like we were sitting in the alley smoking. The charcoal guy had absolutely no manners no customer service. He was just goofing around with the people that he knows that our regulars there and the waitress absolutely no personality dry worked as a robot and hoping to collect tips and that 18% gratuity or whatever they do with that 18%. Oh, and one more important thing that I just happened to investigate and notice is that what the pricing on the menu and what the pricing on your receipt will be completely different. Gitanas is my favorite Hookah place hands down. My gfs and I come here for hookah and food all the time. We love their fatoush salad or the chicken kabob plates. Hummus as an appetizer its also very good. Service is always great and the workers are very friendly. It can get super busy but just flag down any of the workers and they'll take care of you. It's an outdoor sitting but they have covers and heaters for when it's cold. Parking is also available in the free parking garage right underneath the apartments. read more

My friend and I we walked in, ordered drinks. My friends martini glass was so dusty my fingers turned black when I touched it. After I placed my order for hookah, I waited over an hour. When I asked the lady when my hookah will arrive she said, "they're making it". How long does it take to make one hookah when it's not even busy ? 3 other people came after us and they got their drinks and hookah while I was still waiting. The worst service ever! How do I begin? Headline: Disgraceful Establishment. I have not been here for an ample of time and decided to revisit this place and give it a shot. As I sat with my friends, no one greeted me or even bothered to come up to me as ask if I needed anything at all. I had to hunt for a representative at this place for them to provide me with service. Continuing on, I caught the attention a female representative and told her what kind of hookah I would like and put in the order with her along with a water. Water arrived 20-25 minutes later, no big deal. However, the real disappointment occurred when I was waiting for over 40-45 minutes for them to bring my hookah. I don't mind waiting if the hookah is amazing but typically well-versed hookah lounges bring it out within the first 10-15 minutes. I felt more regret and disgust when I inhaled the first puff of the hookah. It tasted straight up like garbage. The hookah packers suck at what they do and it was quite shameful. One thing that cannot be brought back is the time I wasted to receive the hookah and inadvertently being provided a hookah that I define as "crap". I immediately confronted another male representative about my concerns and how bad it was and they were able to take that off the tab. I do not recommend anyone to visit this establishment. How is this place still operating? They lack basic customer service and the workers are quite draconian by avoiding their patrons. The worst part was the hookah. I immediately resorted to another hookah lounge and would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Service has definitely improved here. I did come back here because I have been here many times and decided to give them another chance. Sure enough, the manager came up to me and apologized. She explained why it was done and apologized for how it was handled. I totally understand and I'm glad she handled it so professionally. Dishonest place. I ordered 2 Fatoush salad with grill chicken over the phone. I asked the man how much will it be for grill chicken added he said 2 dollars I said ok. Once I arrived at the restaurant, I went to go pay and I saw that they increased there price of the salad he was charging me $14 and $4 for chicken. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was and I laughed. I told the "manager why on Yelp it shows $10.50" and he said he doesn't have the power to update YELP. Literally dont even remember the name of this place sometimes, all I have to say to friends is the hookah place with the bomb fatoush and they know where to meet me. Had the funnel cake too for the first time and that thing was just as bomb. Service is always good here as well & I love how they have open space thats also closed off along with outdoor heaters. The only thing good about this place is the service by the young mixed (latin/french) gal. The other employees are trying hard but you can only do so much with the tools you're given. If I want to go to a local hookah place, I don't think twice before choosing Gitana Restaurant. I give this place five stars because of their consistently great and friendly service. Their parking is free and right by their entrance. They have a one-drink minimum which is common in many places, but what's nice is that their place is spacious, open and most importantly: CLEAN. I enjoy sitting in their patio area with their heaters in case it gets cold. It's in a nice area with restaurants and coffee shops nearby, but there's no need for that because they serve some amazing food and drinks (including alcohol). I've gotten their iced coffee drinks, and just to warn you, they're sweet! They brew Starbucks for those wondering. Their food is pretty good. If you like tangy, savory salads, get the Fatoush salad--like right now (see pics). Their mozzarella fries and jalapeno poppers are delicious too. We couldn't finish our food, so you're definitely getting a bang for your buck. I was very close in rating this place four stars because of their hookah. It's happened often where the tobacco burns too soon and it's simply not the best pack, but they're always willing to help if you ask and that's not enough of a reason to give them 4 stars. read more

I've been to gitana for the last four years consistently and three weeks ago my sister had left her bag here and one of the coworkers had found it and gave it to Heather one of the workers here ... my sister had called me early morning the next day and told me she might of left it at gitana so I reached out to all the workers that I had the numbers of to ask... when I texted heather she told me that she has the purse and it's safe and sound; I was able to drive down to pick up my sisters purse... prior to all this I had left my laptop inside while it was charging and one of the workers there had let me know personally that I had left it and would come back to pick it up later that night... GITANA WORKERS ARE AMAZING BECAUSE MY LAPTOP IS MY ENTIRE LIFE AND MY SISTER GETTING HER PURSE BACK WAS AMAZING... greatful to have the workers here who are always able to save the stuff I have forgotten and able to retrieve them with nothing missing. I thank the workers who have always reached out to me to let me know... the amount of things I have left here lol and have gotten them back I was grateful that it wasn't lost! I came here last night for the first time and let me say I was impressed. Not sure why all the haters leaving bad reviews on the service because our server was very good and very friendly. I was absolutely blown away by the food! The chicken and beef (forgot what it's called) dish my girl ordered was fantastic, as were the apps we had. Very nice size portions. Had the deep fried Oreo dessert. Insane. The hookah was good as well and no one was rushing us out after our meal. Great spot to come and chill for a while. Was pretty busy for a Monday night. Walked in and sat down around 8pm on a Saturday night Took 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. They were also short and a little rude. That's fine. Maybe they were having a bad night. It was cold so we asked for the heater to be turned on. Took a little while for them to do that. The gas ran out and we asked 4 times to replace it because it was cold. 40 minutes later they changed it. Our server never came around to ask us how we were doing or if we needed anything. Clearly this place has worsened over time! I used to love coming to Gitana for their hookahs and the fact that they offered Starbucks drinks. But that wasn't the case last night unfortunately!! We went there for my husband's birthday and it took over 40 minutes to get our food. The hookah was pretty burnt when we finally received it. We brought the issue to their attention and the other hookah guy packed a different flavor for us. Still felt burnt but better than the first one. My husband ordered the chicken panini and it tasted + smelled like fish. So gross he couldn't even finish the first sandwich; I felt bad because it was his birthday and his appetite was killed... The 2 stars are for the nice waitress who was trying her best to accommodate us and their fattoush salad which I am a huge fan of. On top of everything, they charged $11 automatic gratuity to our bill. Not sure if this is a new thing but I have never seen a minimum gratuity for 2 people at a hookah place. We tipped the waitress anyway but that is not the way to run your business. I would have gladly paid the service charge if I did receive one in fact. There are so few hooka spots in the Burbank area and Gitana was truly one of the pioneers to the "hookah craze". Good indoor and outdoor patio seating. Hookahs are always 'hitting' good. They have a wide range of flavors and brands to choose from. Surprisingly, their food menu has a wide variety and whatever i have tried has tasted really good. So the city of Burbank just passed a law against smoking inside, so now they have to have outside seating only :( The food was always good here, mediterranean, french fries, salads, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, pizzas, shawerma, kabobs, quesadillas, and desserts. They now have added deep fried treats, and nutella pizza and Starbucks coffee and teas. Full bar, even though the drinks aren't on the menu. As far as hookah goes, they have a large selection of Starbuzz, Al Fakher, Tangiers, and some Fumari. They also offer Lavoo glass hookahs as well as basic ones. Apple and pineapple heads available. I like that Lavoo produces thicker smoke, but today it was just average. The music isn't too loud, you can easily hear the people you are with, and there are plenty of heaters to keep you warm. The hookah service is nice, but the space is super cramped now. Every time someone gets up, the coals shift and the hookah guy actually dropped the hookah head... The chairs are super uncomfortable, no hole underneath them, so you can't put your legs under them :/ The process of getting seated is a pain. They claimed to have a huge wait list, but the table next to me stayed empty for a while... And took forever to get a replacement hookah head after the hookah guy broke ours :/ read more

My friends and i came around 9:00 PM on a saturday...the outside seating was filled with people eating and inside we got to pick where we sat... the decor while a little run down has a nice ambiance to it...there are rugs hanging on the wall and a big screen tv...their tables are also beautiful (see photos)... Good selection of hookah and food. Vegetarian and vegan friendly! Right next to a parking lot which is rarely full compared to other nearby lots which makes for easy access. So we noticed the second time when we ordered a different flavor that the holes that were poked on the head were super huge and that's why it burnt out again after 5-10 minutes.
