Crispy Shitake Bites with Korean BBQ sauce
    Lori S.

New menu was debuted yesterday and I am giving !! I had the Crispy Shitake Bites with Korean BBQ sauce and they were prepared to perfection!! I think I am obsessed! Meat lovers will love them! The texture and seasoning was sooo good! My friend ordered the Mac and cheese bites and I have to say they were the best I have ever had! So creamy, crunchy and cheesy! The hospitality provided by Dennis in the bar area makes for a fun time, every time. It is a place where you can dine alone but not feel alone. Highly, highly recommend!! Tons of vegetarian options and staff said the braised short rib is the queen bee on the menu!

I am staying at the Coast Annabelle Hotel and came to eat breakfast around 7:30. It was empty (a table left when we arrived). We had a kind waitress and my short stack was yummy! Bananas were right and it was filling!

Gourmet Mac and Cheese appetizer 9/10

So I was on Yelp and noticed this place has good reviews so I decided to order some food from the restaurant since we were staying at the hotel. I must say the food is pretty delicious. I ordered my food to go as I wanted to enjoy it in my room. Got the build your own cheeseburger and the Mac and cheese appetizer. The burger comes with a lot of fries and fresh toppings. The burger was a big burger and only ate half. The Mac and cheese was piping hot and a big serving for a appetizer as well. I'd definitely order from here again.

Our first dinner in California was brought to you by Olive's Bistro, located inside the Coast Anabelle Hotel, where my partner and I were staying in Burbank. Upon entering by passing a crowded, vibrant bar, we had the whole place to ourselves at this warm, intimate vibe for a while. The menu was limited to two pages and decided on the French onion soup, Chicken Cobb Salad, and Mushroom Burger. Everything was prepared on-site, from the sauces to the salad dressings to the homemade rolls. The food arrived hot and well-seasoned. The Cobb Salad could easily feed enough for two people. Even though the mushroom burger was specifically listed with sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss, it also came with raw onions, lettuce, tomato, and a sauce that was a total letdown and should have stuck with the menu. The price was fair for the amount of food that one got. The staff were very personable, and they made you feel welcome, which we could recommend.

I can't speak to the food. I only had the Buffalo wings, margaritas, Johnny walker & Ginger ale. All I can say is that Dennis makes a mean margarita. Can't believe I doubted the guy. He is a great conversationalist. He's the only reason I think ppl come back here If I am ever in the area I would go back to see Dennis

Everything you'd want in a local place. While staying at the Safari Inn I was referred to the Olive Bistro. Walking in I had not much to go on. The place is clean with no real motif. The food was excellent. We had the coconut shrimp, cheese ravioli, and the rigatoni. It was so good I came back and grabbed the brownie and ice cream for dessert. While waiting for the food, which they offered to bring over to the hotel, I decided to have a drink at the bar. The staff was super welcoming and had genuine conversations with the customers. Isabelle was an all star wearing multiple hats and doing an incredible job. You could easily tell while they had so many regulars. The service was so good not only will I be back if on trips. But it made it feel like a town I'd want to live in. Hats off to the Olive Bistro we will see you next time.

Top Sirloin with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables

My husband and I had been here before and their burgers were good. This time we went in and sat down, and we weren't as thrilled about it. They did not have Ribeye, so we went with the top sirloin. It was okay. The meats were cooked correctly, but it wasn't the best cuts. The cuts also weren't the best, some were really chewy. The service was okay, it was also close to closing so that's probably our fault. The ambiance was fun, they had a wedding or birthday in a section of the restaurant and they were having a lot of fun! Our alcoholic drinks were super good!

What I couldn't finish of my Denver Omelette and home fries.

I fell in love before i even saw the menu. Now don't even get me started on that world class water. Best water I've ever consumed. Perfectly cold and delectably drinkable. They have a whole freaking sign for their sauces and dips. I'm in love. I got a Shirley temple and if i could marry a place instead of a person, the Shirley temple would be my reason. It was FANTASTIC. Our server, Isaiah, was absolutely amazing and on top of things, refilling our water before we even hit half glass. Not to mention his energy and vibe was so welcoming and fun. We got the PuPu platter for two, came out within minutes, I could spend the rest of my life eating that alone. Isaiah recommended his favorite sauces, Garlic Chive and Chipotle Citrus, they were amazing. We got the shrimp and lobster roll, I officially entered heaven. The Isles of Club sandwich was the finishing touch that had me laughing from joy. Near the end of our dining we meant Max, another server, who is absolutely fantastic, brought us everything we needed, boxes, sauce containers, bags, to-go dessert. His energy was also amazing and super fun. Now some extra things to note: -I'm not a big mac salad girly, but holy moly guacamole i loved their Mac salad. -anything tempura/fried in this place is heaven itself -their fries are perfect -the vibe is beyond life you might start crying in joy -be ready to want to buy everything on the menu and then some -I downloaded yelp just to leave this review Overall, Broken Compass Tiki is the perfect place for everyone. Broken Compass Tiki is a pirate themed tiki bar in Burbank…read more They don't having a parking lot, but it was very easy to find street parking just around the corner on a Sunday afternoon. The front of the building is a little vaguely marked, and the entrance has speakeasy vibes, which was a surprise. Upon walking in the front door, there is some tiki décor and a small counter in the rear. I remember thinking to myself "what the heck, this is it?". I checked in at the host stand on the left, and was handed me a boarding pass. She then led us through a hidden door behind what looked like a shipping crate. We were now in the real Broken Compass. The interior is a good size. The two-sided bar seats around a dozen. There is a lounge side of the bar that has two large booths along the wall, and another area with comfortable looking couches and lounge chairs. The main dining room has some tiki hut booths, and two sections of tables with half booth and half chair. The décor is pretty extensive with a good mix of pirate, nautical, and tiki themes. There is a lot of bamboo, thatch, rope, cargo netting, skulls and skeletons, port holes, octopus tentacles, jellyfish, tiki lights, and more. The ceiling is dark with various nautical and pirate markings, and even tied up ship sails overhead. The tiki hut booths have the parrots from the enchanted tiki room above them. Even the two restrooms are nautical themed, with beach and marine sounds playing. There is a lot of great décor to look at. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't very busy yet. By the time we left a few hours later, it was starting to get busy. We decided to sit at the bar. We started out with the buffalo cauliflower ($14) for an afternoon snack. The serving size was generous, and the buffalo sauce had a good tang. It was served with some sauces, and was surprisingly filling. A nice feature of the cocktail menu is that each drink displays one to three compass stars to indicate the strength of the drink. Their cocktails use a great variety of liquors including ones you don't often see. Many of the ingredients are made in-house. I started out with Chupacabra's Vacation (Demerara Rum, Jamacian Rum, Pomegranate Reduction, Cinnamon, Lime Juice, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $17). It is served with a flaming lime on top and a little fire show. It was balanced with a light booziness, some light pomegranate flavor, and a cinnamon sprinkle on top. She started out with the Bittersweet Paradise (Jamacian Rum, White Rum, Campari, Passionfruit Syrup, Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, two-star boozy rank, $18). It didn't drink boozy at all, and was passion fruit forward, with light bitterness. My second cocktail was the Bermuda Dune Buggy (Gin, Overproof Rum, Kumquat Liqueur, Cassis, Orange, Lime, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $18). It had a very unique garnish of a Chartreuse infused gummy which was delicious. The drink was nicely balanced, and didn't really drink boozy even with overproof rum in it. They have a rotating monthly cocktail and she tried the Tropic Like It's Hot (Coconut Washed Lemongrass Infused Rum, Mango, Lemon, Coconut Water, Amaro, $17) which was created by one of our bartenders Daniel. It was served in a Spam can and was light and refreshing with a nice pop of fruit at the start, and a very nice coconut flavor. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and had great conversation with our bartenders Daniel and Monica. They also provided excellent service. Broken Compass supports payment with the InKind app which gives you 20% back (10% on Friday and Saturday) in InKind cash. We had a really great time here, and the drinks, food, décor, and atmosphere were excellent. I purchased a Hork (Horse-shaRK) mug for $50 to bring home as a souvenir. We would definitely return again when in the area.

We've been doing that for a few years now, so that should tell you something right there. Our order is fairly consistent: we each start with a mimosa that comes in a highball glass, so one is usually all we need. Next, we share an order of kimchi biscuits (you get two). So delicious! Packed full of kimchi, bacon and cheddar cheese, it's a nice combo of flavors that play well together. The interior is usually soft and warm, with a nice crunchy crust. Top that with a smatter of the cinnamon butter that it comes with...yum! Our choice of entree varies, anything from avocado toast, to their kale and seaweed salad or any of their other selections they have from their brunch/lunch menu. On this outing, my friend and I both opted for the bibimbap. I opted for the pork bulgogi while my friend got the chicken version. It comes with a generous amount of carrots, zucchini, shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts, and is topped with a runny, sunny side up egg that serves as an excellent sauce when you mix everything together, along with the gochujang sauce. We upgraded and got it with brown rice in the hot stone bowl. Worth it! The regular bibimbap is good, but when you mix in the crunchy crust that comes from the bottom of the stone bowl, you get an additional texture that makes the dish really stand out. The flavors already come together nicely, and the crunchy bits just enhance the experience. For dessert, we like to share the "lemon pie", which is actually a scoop of lemon gelato that comes in a glass that also includes graham crackers, topped with toasted marshmallows. A nice way to end the meal. And the staff! We usually either have Justin or Ann as our server, but everyone there is super friendly and helpful.
