Very mixed feelings about this one. The food was pricey but very good, I had the lobster cocktail and the filet. The problem was the experience was ruined by the service. All around us were other customers having issues. Cocktails being made wrong because the bartender didn't know how to make them (drinks on their menu), the kitchen apparently ran out of an ingredient in someone's meal and they substituted it and didn't let the customer know, bills being incorrect, and an hour and a half wait for two salmon entrees for the couple next to us. The bartender was very nice but to everything said there was nothing she could do. I didn't see a manager or anyone else trying to make to situation right for any of these people. Quite literally all around us were unhappy customers. Our experience was topped off by a $50 gift card we had ringing up as $25. Again, nothing they could do. Maybe it was an off night? But for the money, your better off going to one of the many other highly rated restaurants in Lancaster. read more

My wife and I went to Gibraltar to celebrate her birthday. We bit had the filet mignon and it was perfect. It came with mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and a roasted onion. We both thoroughly enjoy our dinners. The atmosphere was pleasant; it has a modern decor. The wait staff was courteous and helpful. My experience there has always been fantastic! Food is superb and staff is very nice. However, after last night, it's the last time we'll ever go back. It was my birthday and my family all flew in from California to celebrate. I made reservations from Sal himself 3 weeks prior while having dinner there. I had a party of 6 to eat in the Wine Room specifically. He guaranteed my request. Even called and texted 3 days in advance. Well!!! We arrive and he unapologetically and pompously told me it's already taken by a party of 10. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! He said we'll go to,another room - I argued with him - it was specifically reserved and a special occasion. He said, well, the other party was larger and he wanted to accommodate them. And promptly turned around with the menus and headed toward a room we couldn't hear ourselves talk due to hardwood floors and people all shouting over each other. When I tell you this was the best restaurant experience that I have had in years, I mean it. The ambiance was beautiful. Restaurant was clean and smelled so good. Our server Matthew, made us feel like he had known us for years. His knowledge of the menu and his pleasant demeanor was unmatched. Chef Carl was/is amazing!!!! we had the New York Strip, Filet, Lobster Fettuccini, Crabcake, truffle fries and butternut squash ravoli. Everything was soooooo fresh and well seasoned. Cooked to perfection. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was my friend's birthday and we were treated so well. It was an experience to remember. I will definitely be back. This place moved from a much larger space across from F & M and it is so much more intimate now. The atmosphere is elegant, modern and inviting. We had originally planned to eat in the restaurant but sat down at the bar first to have a cocktail. Gibraltar has a couple of excellent bartenders who know their wines and how to mix a drink properly. We weren't overly hungry when we arrived and we decided to take a look at the bar menu. The bar menu has so many offerings and small plates that we just decided to order off of that. Steak Frites! Out of this world.. the quality of the meat, cooked to a perfect medium rare and seared beautifully with crispy thin fries was outstanding. I know Gibraltar is mostly a seafood restaurant and steak isn't exactly what you think of when ordering there, but I had the feeling that the kitchen knew what they were doing - and we weren't disappointed! read more

I am giving three stars in the hope that our experience isn't the norm for this restaurant. I will start by saying that the food we had was incredible. We started with the shrimp cocktail and seafood chowder and our entrees were the scallops and tuna. The price for the appetizers was a little steep ($14 each) considering it was a bowl of soup and 4 shrimp for the shrimp cocktail. I thought the entrees were reasonably priced for the quality of the food $28-32. Now my real issue. We arrived at 7:05pm on a Saturday and placed our order with the waiter at 7:25. It took over 35 minutes to get our appetizers and 35 minutes longer to get our meal. When I asked the waiter what the delay was because we were pushing 1:30 with out our entrees, he simply stated the kitchen is backed up and your food would be out shortly; dismissing any of our displeasure with having such a delayed meal. I would expect that a meal and drinks costing $175+ would have been met with a free round of drinks or a comped appetizer for the inconvenience; however, that was not the case. Overall the meal was two plus hours. Again, if you're looking for quality food this is a good option. I just can't guarantee prompt attention and good customer service. read more

We had fantastic dinner from start to finish this past Saturday. We arrived a bit early for our 7 pm reservations and enjoyed drinks at their very well appointed bar. The hostess approached us around 7:10 and we proceeded to our table. None of us had been to Gibralter since the old location and we really love the new casual chic style. I have to start by saying that the service was good and kind but the food took forever and the kitchen got all the orders wrong and when the food came was either overcooked or bland, our waitress apologized but we definitely not coming any time soon, we feel for the price point food quality needs a lot of improvement. Tonight I stopped in to buy a $100 gift certificate to thank a business connection. The restaurant was their request. I arrived at 9:50. Gibraltar advertises they close at 10:30. Bar chairs were up on bar to clean floor while diners were still there in a room close by. We enjoyed our meal at Gibratar. I had the roasted chicken and it was so tender and juicy. A tad salty for me. I suffer from high blood pressure and watch my salt intake. But it was very good. Welcome back! Nice to see that the relocation and reopen of this restaurant has been finally completed. Although it will take a few more visits to validate that it is the best in Lancaster it got off to a very good start last evening. Found the food to be superb (exception being the Ceaser salad), good wine list, very hospitable staff and a more relaxed atmosphere than the previous venue with many patrons in somewhat casual dress reminding me of some California bistros. Final tab was expensive (still flinching from the $15 Manhatten as compared to the $9 Makers Mark on the rocks) but can see a path to keeping the bill at a more reasonable level next time. Looking forward to that next visit. Making a return visit and found the food as good as before. Glad to see $15 Manhatten has been reduced to $12 but disappointed in the bar area. Seemed to be in a somewhat confused state running from a bar staff member having to be shown how to use a wine bottle opener to switching requested liquor brand without being informed. Observing the confusion while eating at the bar was informative but should not be happening at an establishment of this nature. read more

Completely Aweful, We went here for Valentine's Day. We had reservations so we got sat right away wasn't too packed there were open tables here and there. We ordered the seafood platter for 2 which was cold seafood keep in mind we waited 45 minutes for someone to take our order and waited an hour and a half to receive our food. The table next to us ordered the same thing and got their food within 20 minutes they arrived an hour after us and had theirs first. Horrible horrible service. read more

This fantastic restaurant never disappoints. We love the new location. We popped in last night hoping to grab a bite to eat between running errands. We were so lucky because not only were there a few seats at the bar available we were greeted by some great staff. The fresh seafood is always amazing and last night was no exception. We like the raw bar and the shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura appetizer comes with vegetable tempura as well which is amazing. The cocktails are so good you can't stop at one. The appetizer selection was grand with something for everyone. I had grilled octopus (special) and my wife the beet salad. Wow! Fresh and delicious are just two words to describe our starters. Then on to our main courses, I had a sea bass dish served with clams, shrimp, scallops and other fine seafood in buttery, brothy goodness (special) while the wife had the filet mignon, which quite frankly was the best cut of meat either of us had ever had. Tonight was our first visit to Gibraltar. It was fantastic. For my appetizer, I had the crab ravioli special which was sublime. My husband had shrimp and grits which he declared to be amazing. Our entrees, scallops and salmon were equally delicious. We finished off our meals with the chocolate temptation and white chocolate cheesecake. Yum! Jordan, our server, struck the perfect balance of friendly professionalism. He was top-notch. The new building was nicely designed and decorated. I ordered mussels in coconut and red curry, and the fillet mignon. I considered getting a pasta dish because the menu said that the pasta was house made... the waiter said that only the gnocchi was house made; the fettuccine was not. When the mussels came they were huge and strong tasting, not little and delicate as most other fine restaurants serve. The broth had the flavor of water, but was over powered by the fishy strong flavor of the large mussels. I told our water politely that I won't eat these and he took them back. The fillet was very nice and cooked perfectly medium rare with a nice crust. It came with a scoop of mashed potatoes, a half of a small roasted onion, asparagus, and what looked like thick catsup on top. Fillets are tender but don't have much flavor on their own and rely on interesting sides to make them enjoyable. Mashed potatoes... really? you couldn't think of something more interesting to go with it? The asparagus was good, I scraped the catsup like stuff off the top and ate all of a very nice naked steak. My friend ordered seared scallops and didn't finish them. I had one. What's this? The scallop was tough... not just the inside, but it seemed to have a tough skin on the sides. I've even had over cooked scallops that didn't have this skin. Aside from that they had no flavor once again. Strike three! Now if I seem critical, well, I am. We go out for fine dining and have visited the best establishments we can find We have our favorites, and some that are OK, but this one is off the list. If you want a nice dining experience, try the Loft, Carrs, Belvadere, or drive to York for the West Bank and Accomac, but not this place. Tell your chef that I say he needs to talk to me about what fine food should be. And buy better mussels, not the cheap big ones. read more

Visited this past Saturday and must say it was out of this world!! We started with the coconut and curry mussels which were sweet, plump, flavorful and tender unlike the shriveled puny mussels you get in most places, and the calamari, which was also good. Our main courses were the whole bronzino that was fresh, flavorful and reminded us of our dinners on the Amalfi Coast, and the most amazing seared sea scallops I've ever had... tender, large, perfectly caramelized and sweet. One of the best dining experiences we've had, and our new favorite restaurant!
