    Shepherd's pie

The food was okay. The beef within the shepherd's pie itself was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were pretty bland. As far as the service goes, it was okay. The only thing that I did like was the atmosphere. It definitely felt like english pub.

I was in love with the Cornish Pasty Company because I craved these lovely confections. But George and Dragon's short crust pastry stuffed with chicken curry and potatoes are my new go to satisfy that craving. He bartenders last night, Cat and Jana were welcoming with playful banter. They know all the regulars and even asked me for my name and chatted with me. I cannot wait to come back!

First things first, GO ENGLAND!!! I love that they are doing watch parties for the Euros and throughly enjoyed the watch party July 6th, and looking forward to enjoying the finals this Sunday! Jolene provided amazing service and even checked in on the status of my food when it took awhile (ticket was lost). Though the menu is limited for watch parties, the English Breakfast was spot on. I love that they didn't even bat an eye to make it vegetarian, and even inquired if I was vegan. Outside of watch parties, this location is on my radar to try again as I haven't visited since COVID. My Nanny (grandma from England) always loved this pub when we were on that side of town, so this place has lots of nostalgia for me. One of the best pubs outside of England!

Huge shout out to Brittany for making my experience as perfect as it was. I walked in off the streets and as a dark beer drinker, I wanted something other than Guinness. She recommended Founders Porter and it was perfect. Thick, creamy and smooth. There's a good amount of lunch specials, but I asked what she recommended and she went with the Shepherd's Pie. It's a generous size for lunch and very filling. It comes with a flavorful gravy that goes nicely with the entire meal. I ordered a hot custard at the end of my meal and it was one of the best custards I've ever had. It was made fresh, not served too hot, thick, smooth, not too sweet. Restaurant is pretty big; they did a great job utilizing the space and not overcrowding the tables. There's a gaming area with pool and darts as well.

Food was good. Fish bites batter was a little heavy and beer cheddar would have been better than w/jalapeños like every other AZ place

When I used to spend a lot of time in the valley back in the mid 1990s, I came to George and Dragon because it was featured in the best of Phoenix one year. While living out of state, I saw it featured on one of the Rescue shows, so after moving back here full-time in 2019, I decided to put it on my list of places to check out again. The restaurant is still located in the same building that it was back in the mid 90s, and surprisingly, I didn't notice much change since my last visit. During my last visit in the mid 90s, my colleague got the shepherds pie and I got the fish and chips. I decided to get the fish and chips again this visit. I must confess that my memory is not good enough to remember exactly what the fish and chips were like in the mid 90s, but I can tell you that this time they did not live up to my expectations. The cod fillet was definitely premium quality and a sizable portion for a lunch portion. It was batter dipped, possibly with a beer batter, but I'm not certain. In any case it was an excellent compliment to the cod. The unfortunate fact is that both mine and my wife's fillets were overcooked. The battered exterior was a dark golden brown, and my wife's fillet was dry and tough around the edges. While the batter on my fillet tasted somewhat burnt, the fillet inside was still moist and tender. The chips were basically steak fries, and were properly cooked although they seemed tough to my wife. One of the big mistakes they make is placing the fillet directly on top of the chips. I understand, elevating it so that the bottom of the fillet batter stays crispy however, all of the fries under it were soaked in the oil from the fillet making them soggy and unappetizing. The lunch fish and chips only comes with one side, and we both chose coleslaw. The other choices were limited such as peas or another vegetable. You could choose a salad for an additional charge, but at $10.99 for the basic fish and chip lunch, that seemed a little too expensive. The coleslaw was nothing to brag about. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great either. Lastly, I'll talk about the atmosphere. First of all parking was in the rear, with plenty of room. but it was about a 10 to 15 yard walk to the closest entrance. We entered through a side door, although we were not sure when we opened the door whether it led to the kitchen or the restaurant. It was not marked as an entrance but rather than walk another 20 yards around the building to the main entrance we decided to give it a try. The door led to a section of the pub where there were a couple of pool tables. After walking through that section, we were greeted by a server who offered to seat us. There were only about a half dozen other customers at the time, which is not surprising being that it was a weekday around 2 PM. Whenever my wife and I go to a restaurant we always prefer a booth with padded backs and seating surfaces. However, in the case of G & D, they only have bistro height tables with wooden back padded chairs. This is unlike what I recall from my visit in the 1990s where I think they had banquettes across the front - of course I could be wrong about that. We settled on a four top table along the front near where I sat on my last visit. We were greeted with menus and waters very quickly, and our order was taken within minutes. It was clear from the amount of time it took to get our food that everything is done fresh to order. In fact, they may not keep the fryer fully heated based on the amount of time it took. Due to my wife's fish being overcooked we sent it back, which resulted in another 20-ish minute wait. Fortunately, they left her the fries and coleslaw so she had something to keep her busy. Summing it all up we will probably will not bother returning here. My wife and I have both have spent weeks in London and honestly nothing really brought that London vibe to mind here at George and Dragon, other than maybe the fact that the food in both places is just so-so.

You can tell right away this is the kind of place regulars come back to often. Food I didn't try much food, but I did have the cheese crisp and it was solid. Light, flaky, and more like an open-faced tostada than a quesadilla. It came topped with green chili and chicken, and everything worked well together. Based on that, I'd expect the rest of the menu to be consistent, even if it's not trying to reinvent the wheel. Service Service was efficient, especially considering how busy it was. No complaints here... you can tell the staff knows how to handle a full house and keep things moving. Ambience This is where the place stands out. The vibe feels like a food network designed a biker bar, but in a fun, not over-the-top way. It's also apparently a Kansas City Chiefs bar, which adds to the identity. There was a live band playing early 2000s rock hits, which kept the energy up. Crowd was friendly overall, very much a neighborhood crowd. Overall This isn't a destination bar, but it's a really solid go-to if you live nearby. Think of it as an elevated dive/sports bar with a strong local following. Good drinks, good energy, and a place that does what it's supposed to do well.

The pasty and gravy were authentic and delicious. The chips were some of the best I've had in a very long time, if not ever. The restaurant is large with an upper and lower level and patio dining. It has a pub-like feel. Use the QR to view the menu, but order through the waiter. (This isn't quite obvious, so a sign stating 'Order with the waitstaff' would make things more clear). There are a variety of pasty flavors to choose from. The bathrooms are completely graffitied -- I think they've chosen to make that part of the decor. Don't let them scare you off! Today, I was walking near my office and came across the Downtown Phoenix location of Cornish Pasty. I enjoyed a tasty lunch with good service, and I am already looking forward to heading back there. When I approached the restaurant from the corner of Central and Monroe, it wasn't clear which door was the door I should enter though it seems like any door off Monroe or Central is just fine. There were limited number of tables plus the bar, and I was delighted to see a small table available. I was eating on my own with a book, and I was quickly greeted by one of several team members who stopped by my table over my lunch hour. I asked a few questions about three options, and I decided upon the Chicken Pot Pie Signature Pasty consisting of chicken, carrots, red potato, green beans, celery, and onion with rosemary. There was also chicken gravy on the side. Everything about the dish was delicious! I would consider ordering this again as I enjoyed it so much; however, I may want to try something else next time. There are so many options! I did learn though that you cannot substitute most options in the pasties. Visit the Cornish Pasty website at https://www.cornishpastyco.com. On the website is the history of the Cornish pasty, information about all 11 locations (of which 9 are in Arizona), menus, a photo gallery, catering options, contact form, employment options, online ordering, and gift cards. The menu consists of their signature pasties and premium pasties though they also list vegan and vegetarian pasties, salads, appetizers and soups, sides, desserts, and drinks. While the Scottsdale and Tempe locations appear larger than the Downtown Phoenix location, it was still comfortable and had similar positive customer service from staff. There are so few restaurants like the Cornish Pasty in the Phoenix area. I'd certainly recommend visiting any of the Cornish Pasty locations though for a positive experience Downtown, feel free to stop by. No reservations are needed. If you don't find a regular table available, feel free to stop at the bar and take a seat there. I look forward to returning back to the Cornish Pasty again soon. Yum!

It was probably my first time being introduced to Irish pubs and the traditional dishes and drinks that they serve. Today, I was walking around near the ASU Downtown Campus and came across Seamus McCaffrey's. I gave it a try for lunch and enjoyed some tasty food and great service. While I didn't grab a drink, I'd certainly consider meeting friends after work there another time. I walked into the bar, and I was literally behind the bar where is was quite dark. Many of the bar seats were taken though I stepped into an area behind the bar where there were a number of open tables where I could seat myself. There was yet another room further back with booths and some creative decor, though I was happy with a table near the bar. The server came right over and made some great suggestions and introduced herself to me. She checked on me multiple times during the meal and made sure I liked what I picked. I ordered an item off the Traditional Favorites menu, the Chicken Pot Pie, which consisted of tender shredded chicken, peas and carrots smothered with herbs in a creamy white gravy under a flaky puff pastry. It also came up with a cheese stick. Both were tasty yet not too filling as I expected. There was a light breaded top to a bowl and then no bread on the bottoms or sides, but that was alright as I didn't need an over-the-top dish for lunch. While the prices are a bit higher than I would have expected them to be, it was certainly worth it, and I'll be back again. Seamus McCaffrey's opened in 1991 and brought a real Irish pub to Central Phoenix. It is a family-run bar that serves Irish classics and pub favorites. From Boxty, shepherd's pie, and fish and chips along with stacked sandwiches, burgers, and starters, the menu is not huge but still feels like it has a bit of everything. They have live music on the weekend and host special events throughout the year. The biggest celebration is its annual St. Patrick's Day street party on Monroe, a Downtown Phoenix tradition filled with great beer, great food, and a whole lot of green. Check out its website (https://seamusmccaffreys.com) to see its menu, upcoming events, photo gallery, and specials. The specials include daily specials, happy hour specials, and a $13 lunch menu.
