My family and I visited your restaurant on Saturday evening for dinner. We were checked in within minutes, which we appreciated, and our waiter, Anthony, initially did a good job taking our drink and meat orders. Unfortunately, once we began cooking, the heat from the grill made the restaurant extremely hot and uncomfortable. When I asked Anthony about the air conditioning, he explained that it had been freezing up and had been turned off since earlier that morning. It was disappointing that customers were not informed about this before being seated--especially at a Korean BBQ restaurant where every table has a hot grill. As the evening continued, I asked another employee whether fans were available. She placed a small fan in the middle of the aisle, and although we appreciated her effort, it did little to improve the situation. The heat became so unbearable that I had to remove my outer shirt and remain in my undershirt. I then asked her to contact a manager because I wanted to discuss the situation. She spoke with Anthony, but neither Anthony nor a manager came to our table. Anthony continued passing by without acknowledging us. Only after I finally got his attention and gestured for the check did he immediately come over and ask whether everything was okay. He also circled the suggested gratuity amounts on the receipt, despite having ignored our request for assistance. I still left him a good tip, but the level of service and concern shown was unacceptable. This was one of the worst dining experiences my family and I have had. Operating a restaurant with grills at every table and no functioning air conditioning creates an extremely uncomfortable environment for both customers and employees. More importantly, our request to speak with a manager should not have been ignored. I would appreciate a response explaining why customers were seated without being notified of the A/C issue, why a manager never came to our table, and what GEN Korean BBQ is willing to do to address our experience. read more

GEN BBQ isn't really Korean BBQ to me--it's more like an Asian-style BBQ restaurant. The Korean dishes they advertise don't taste very authentic, especially the soups. If you're looking for traditional Korean flavors, this probably isn't the place. The meat quality was also inconsistent. Some cuts were decent, but others came out shredded or chopped up in a way they normally shouldn't be. I think they could definitely improve both the quality of the meat and the side dishes. The service was a bit slow, although our server was very kind and friendly. We ordered alcohol at the beginning of our meal, but it didn't arrive until after our food came out, and only because we reminded them. Overall, I'd rate the food 4.5/10 and the service 3/5. Love this Korean BBQ spot! It is located near a a lot of other business walking distance. There is a boba spot across the street, a coffee spot down the street and much more nearby. Great service, clean and spacious restaurant, all indoor seating. The bulgogi meat is my favorite! You order what you will cook and it all turns out delicious. Terrible service -- definitely my last time here. I came with my daughter, and our server only checked on us once. After that, no one came back, even when our grill was completely burned. I had to turn it off myself because no one came to check on us. Meanwhile, I saw staff checking on other tables, including the table right next to us, while ours was completely ignored. After not visiting for several years, I was excited to give this place another try, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. The first red flag was arriving to find the banchan and salad already sitting on the table. Everything was warm, which made it seem like it had been sitting out for a while rather than being freshly served. After placing our order, only part of the meal arrived. We eventually had to ask about the missing soup and japchae. When the soup finally came out, it was cold. We later learned the wrong bowl had been brought out. Once the correct soup arrived, it was piping hot, packed with flavor, and had just the right amount of spice, easily one of the highlights of the meal. My husband was especially disappointed to learn that the beef belly, the dish he specifically came for, was completely sold out...on a Friday night. The fried shrimp also came out cold, and the popcorn chicken was underwhelming. Thankfully, not everything missed the mark. The beef bulgogi and kalbi were both flavorful and satisfying, and the pork cheek was served in generous, meaty portions that were perfect for sharing. Overall, the meal felt inconsistent. There were a few standout dishes, but between the service delays, missing items, and several dishes arriving cold, the experience didn't live up to the memories I had of dining here years ago. Would I come back? Probably not. Houston has too many great Korean BBQ options to overlook this many service and quality issues. They give a complimentary salad and a sauce set composed of their signature soy sauce, sesame oil, and green tea sea salt. They also provide a set of banchan that go well with the meat and rice. Whenever I go here I always just order their bulgogi and galbi, which are always reliable and solid. I also tried some of their brisket and pork belly, which were good as well. I always make sure to order some rice paper on the side to pair with the meat, they have radish wraps as well. AYCE kbbq with a good selection of meats to choose from (both marinated and unmarinated) as well as a premium option which would bring the AYCE price to around $50 per person. Alternatively you can also order premium meats a la carte. The portions are pretty small, but I suppose that's good to prevent over ordering. Our server was attentive and quick with switching out our grill when it was getting too sticky. There is an attached garage and also street parking available. read more

Once seated, the servers were quite attentive and made sure we were prepared with the grills and ordering. Lots of options to choose from and everything we had was delicious! We got beef bulgogi, short ribs, beef belly just to name a few. Our server put us on to the boneless short rib which had the same marinated richness as the usual bone-in kind but easier to eat. LI've been to so many Korean bbq restaurants and this one was only okay. The meat wasn't good quality and I could tell by the apprentice, the tenderness of when you even cut it, the flavour especially of the pork etc. Even for its price, I feel like its quality was still not meeting its value or standard. The Japchae was also supposedly "house made" but as someone who makes it at home and as an experienced foodie, it was basically preprepped noodles and chopped peppers thrown on (not even cut well! It was just chunks of it). Even their house salad im skeptical if it is house made because they had house salad with the cut marinated lettuce but didn't have fresh lettuce on its own for me to eat it with the meat. The soy beef belly was solid, it had some good flavor to it. The hangjungsal was terrible, it was too fatty for my liking & it was beyond chewy. The angus beef was mid, just bland and boring but it was tendered. The beef bulgogi was as to expected. It was marinated to perfection & the cuts were thick. It was flavorful, tendered and melt in your mouth. That explains why I ordered it two more times; probably my favorite on the menu. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but I was expecting more since I've been here before. The grills were also another problem, it just burns too fast & has the place smelling like smoke. The decor is modern, hip & trendy. The service as stated in the beginning was excellent. Will I come back? I was asked to leave a review by the manager Josue. I came out around 740pm on a Saturday night for dinner for 2. It was pretty packed out wait time was about 35mins. We quickly grabbed 2 adult capri sun drinks from the bar lychee (I don't recommend should've swapped for something else) and lemon (our favorite). We took a stroll around downtown while we waited to be called. Once we got the call we were seated quickly, I noticed the cleaning staff ushering in at each table cleaning effectively after each guest. Alan, our server greeted us. We loved his transparency of the expected wait times with food/service. We enjoyed the $30 unlimited the food was fresh and constantly revolving we did not notice much of a wait time.
