We ordered the following: (out of 3 *rating) **Bulgogi Tteopoki - delicious but not what I expected. The sauce is similar to a stirfry, but the Bulgogi is done very well. Think of a japchae flavored Tteopoki dish Dumplings (Mandu) - they gave us the option to pan fry or steam, we chose to steam! Did not try, cannot rate ***2x assorted meat platters (enough for 6)- worth the quality of cut and preparation, done tableside. Each different platter was done beautifully, and grilled tenderly. The marinade was well done on the short ribs. **banchan- my favorite was the pickled radish and cabbage kimchi. Not a lot of variety compared to other places, but each dish was done very well. I didn't really care for the potato salad. * doenjang/soybean soup: maybe it's just me, but it was very salty. Not my top choice of soup regardless. **kimchi-jjigae : very solid kimchi stew. The right amount of heat to pair rice with well but it's so rich. I could only have a couple bites to the end of the meal. ***hotteok with chocolate ice cream. Bori is easily the best Korean BBQ I've had in Houston. Plenty of parking and the restaurant is set inside a Korean-style house with sleek, spacious interiors that make the experience feel upscale but still comfortable. Service was amazing! Our waiter was incredibly attentive and fast, and the staff cooks the meat for you so you can fully enjoy the meal. There's also an in-house butcher, and you can absolutely taste the freshness and quality of the meat. We ordered the ABC platter with NY strip, boneless short rib, pork belly, plus an extra side of bulgogi, which was more than enough for 4 people. This upscale KBBQ restaurant is a place I have been meaning to try for a while now. I've heard some great things about this place and now I've finally been able to try it. They have parking around the building and also additional parking on the side. While there seems to be a lot of parking, it can fill up quickly! Upon entry, we were greeted and seated immediately. Hits all the basics of an upscale kbbq restaurant. Fresh, high quality meat and the servers know what they are doing. Felt like the pacing was a little off though. We got the combo thing with a bunch of different meats, and the large pork belly was cooked first so we ended up waiting for a good amount of time, and once we started slowing down the beef tongue cooked very quickly and faster than we could eat. The banchan were pretty hit or miss. The kimchi and salad were highlights. It's been a while since I've been to Bori and my brother wanted to try the new location. It's definitely closer to home, which is nice, and still maintains that fancy vibe. We opted for the butcher's choice. They cook the meat for you and it is portioned out well. The sides are good, but a little sparse, although you can ask for refills. We also got the raw marinated crabs, which my family liked, soft and flavorful. It does feel pretty expensive for what you get, but the meat quality is good. We ended with a mango bingsu, which was a little disappointing because the mangos were sour and frozen solid. We should have gotten the hotteok ice cream, to be honest. This was my first time trying the Bori in Montrose and I had an amazing experience. Ambiance, food selection, and service was spot on. We got the Bori Beef Cuts selected cuts and you can't miss out on the marinated short rib, it's juicy and flavorful. We've always been fans of the Bori Spring Branch location, so we are excited to finally check out the new Montrose location. Since we came on a weekday, parking was easy in their lot and surrounding streets (although other reviews mentioned the lot becomes valet only during busier times). We were seated on the first floor, not sure if this location has an art gallery or not. The menu is identical to the Spring Branch location, same with the complementary banchan. We ordered the usual seafood pancake, the small butcher's feast, and tried out marinated crabs and beef carpaccio. The seafood pancake was excellent, the marinated crabs were flavorful and fresh, the beef carpaccio on the other hand was disappointing. Our server grilled the meat diligently, but overall service was hit-or-miss. The dining room layout made for a noisy experience, conversations from nearby tables carried easily and were quite distracting. We visit the Spring Branch of BORI as the go to higher end KBBQ spot often so it's nice that they opened a location closer inside the loop. Located near Montrose, parking is available in their interior lot or street parking. This location is also a house like structure but is missing the art museum. Service is fine but not great, definitely a step below their OG location. The staff seems new-ish and are definitely a bit below the pace. The food is solid; we got the seafood pancake, raw crabs, and beef carpaccio for apps; the beef carpaccio was not good, at a 2/5. The seafood pancake is a solid 5/5 as always and the raw crab was well marinated and tasted fresh; the number in the very small portion size of the dish; 4/5. For the meats, we got the smaller butcher's feast combo with an extra side of beef tongue. The meats are decent quality and the pork jowl was especially textured. Overall, a solid spot and a newer interior is a more posh area of town. I think their OG location still has its charms and higher level of service compared to this one. read more

We provided the name for our reservation and were seated right away. Our table was in front of the fireplace, very nice and warm. I love the intimate setting downstairs. We opted for the small ABC platter because the server explained the small was good for 3-4 ppl and the large is good for 5-6 ppl. We had a party of 5 and also wanted the seafood medley special. For our meat options, we chose the ribeye, marinated boneless short ribs, and pork belly. This platter came with kimchi stew, steamed egg, and cheese corn. We added on an order of pork jowl as we were still a tad bit hungry after enjoy the seafood medley and meat platter. The pork jowl was my favorite out of the meats ordered. Its two floors and dining area was a bit smaller and cozier than the original location. We had a wonderful server who was extremely knowledgeable and gave great suggestions. There are some items only available at the Montrose location. We ordered the small beef cuts set (small), japchae, and fried chilli eggplant. Beef cut set - beef belly, ribeye, marinated boneless spare ribs (5/5)- the beef was amazing quality and well cooked - they cook it to your liking, the spare ribs were marinated perfectly and so tender Corn cheese (comes with beef set) 4/5 - corn and cheese - who doesn't love it? All the meats were great and three selections were enough for two people to have some leftovers. The seasoned is very much savory no sweet. The marinated is sweet and savory. The "spicy" is a sweet/savory/SPICY combo. They do all three for most cuts I believe. You get rice, kimchee, and other accoutrements including what tasted like Potatoe salad, lettuce for wraps and a few things I failed to try. Right in the middle of a neighborhood, in what looks to be a huge house, Bori had nice street presence when you roll up. The grounds and the building are aesthetically pleasing. They were still construction the parking when we came but we were amazed by the place cause it was just so unexpected. The outside smelled delicious of KBBQ. The interior felt like a large house with multiple stories, but a very modern renovated home. The servers are there to cook and serve you all the meats! I have always love Bori since I went to their first location in Spring Branch area. So when they opened another location near my house, I was very ecstatic. I went once when they just opened but I recently went during the weekday for dinner since I was craving Korean BBQ. The place is very warm and cozy since it use to be a residential structure and layout. The design of the place is very thought out with some contemporary design combined with existing structure. But the food, like always is very good. I like it there because not only is their ventilation very effective to wear you do not smell like BBQ after leaving the place, but the wait staff actually cooks your meat for you. My waiter was Ethan and he was very attentive and his cook on the meat was perfect. For appetizer, I had the seafood pancake which I highly recommend everyone to try along with the steamed dumplings. And for my entree, I did the ABC platter which I pick a meat from each of the rows. I picked the ribeye under row A. Under row B, I picked the spicy boneless short rib and beef belly under row C. To be honest, you can't go wrong with any of their selections. Of course, I had to try their hummingbird cake since I love the one from Empire Cafe. But that's another story. I also wanted to try their lemon berry cake. And to be honest, both of the desserts were a disappointment to me. They were dry but I can't fault the place for that since it's not their forte. I'm sure they out source it and do not have an in house pastry chef. There is plenty of parking, unlike the one in the Spring Branch area. They have a pretty decent size parking lot and at night, the neighbor opens up their parking lot to allow an over flow. But there is also off street parking in the front and side of the restaurant. Bori's homage to traditional Korean cooking that's upscale is done nicely. I went twice over a three week period when I was visiting Houston. The ban chan tastes authentic but it had a modern upscale twist. There is valet parking but also street parking in the neighborhood. Reservations are easy to make on OpenTable online. Service is great here! The hosts greet you as soon as you walk in and everyone is friendly and attentive. The waiters give great recommendations for food and portion sizes. Drinks: For alcohol they have beer, wine, and soju. I enjoy their Jinro Chamisul (original soju). But I've also tried their peach soju and it was too sweet for me. Onto the food, here's what I've tried here: - Seafood pancake: This dish is delicious!! If you like seafood, I highly recommend this. - Japchae: It was good but my least enjoyable dish here. - Premium beef cuts (L) with marinated short rib and dry-aged ribeye: This was served with corn cheese (yumm) , steamed egg (I love anything with eggs), and we opted for kimchi stew which was hot and fresh and not too spicy for me. The waiter cooks your meats for you, which I enjoy, and he will cook it to your desired preference. First off, the restaurant is stunning! It's located in a renovated home and they've done a great job incorporating Korean architecture into the design. They also have free valet parking. I wasn't sure what to expect going in - if it was going to be AYCE k-bbq. But it's a la carte with a combination of k-bbq and non-kbbq options. They first served us a wide selection of different kinds of banchan, or side dishes, which were delicious. I especially enjoyed the sliced scallions with chili oil. For entrees, our table of 2 ordered a beef bulgogi bibimbap, perilla oil buckwheat noodles, and a ribeye combination that came with beef soup, lettuce (to make ssam), and some other items. Our server Tim was attentive and helpful, cooking the meat and offering suggestions for things to try off the menu. We ordered the hotteok for dessert per his recommendation, and it was awesome! The service was amazing, the atmosphere was great, the menu was very easy to read and had lots of options. My only complaint was that I didn't know that the set meals came with a salad because it didn't say on the menu as it only said it came with steamed egg, soup, corn cheese, so that is the only reason why we ordered an additional salad. I'll be lenient on my review and not mark points off for that reason. I'm Korean and have eaten KBBQ my whole life, so I may have a different grading curve. Side dishes, ambience, and attentive service were the best part of it. Disliked that the portions were so small. We had to keep asking for more lettuce leaves because each plate only has a couple. And the banchan dish with leeks only had 3 small pieces. And there was only a teeny tiny amount of ssamjang. We ordered a large short rib plate, which the waiter said served 4-5. We had 3 in our party and only had a few small pieces of meat left over after the meal. Taste-wise, my favorite was the short rib seasoned with salt, pepper, and sesame oil. The marinated short rib was too sweet. The banchan and side dishes were good, particularly the scallion salad. The doenjang jigae had lots of clams in it. We asked for the meat to be cooked medium rare, but some pieces were too rare and others were more medium. The waiter was very attentive, but we did arrive early in the evening. I appreciated the decor, which was classy and modern with muted grays, similar to the Bori in Long Point. We prefer other Korean barbecue places outside of the loop - Honeypig is better value for similar quality meat (at least, we couldn't tell the difference), and it has an air of authenticity. They did a great job of remodeling the building into a trendy, upscale space while still capturing some traditional Korean culture vibes. The service was great as well. The food was very consistent with the Spring Branch location. We had the large Bori Beef Cuts combination, and chose Beef Belly, Boneless Short Rib & Marinated Boneless Short Rib. All the meats were of the highest quality and very tasty. I will also say that this was enough food for the three of us. If we can get this quality and quantity of food (the combinations comes with side dishes, steamed egg, stew, etc.), it's also a pretty good value proposition for less than $130. We think Bori is the best Korean BBQ restaurant in Houston. We would welcome the opportunity to go back to either location. read more

First impressions are everything because the restaurant is set in a completely renovated house in a residential area and it's beautiful! They had several spots for street parking or a lot out back. Absolute gem of a restaurant (not even limited to kbbq). I've been to hundreds (from AYCE to high-end) of kbbq restaurants around the world, highlighting Korea and Los Angeles. I must admit that this is the BEST one I've been to overall. The ambiance, quality of food + service, variety of menu items and plating of each dish and banchan was top notch. We ended up getting the combo and selected the boneless short rib (beef row A), marinated boneless short rib (beef row B), and pork belly (pork row C). We also ordered beef belly a la carte. When I took the first bite of the marinated boneless short rib, I was shocked. The quality of the beef was immediately apparent. The beef belly usually just melts in your mouth due to the majority of the piece being fat. At this restaurant, that is not the case. It's very meaty but has little slivers that melt due to the perfect marbling, which pairs nicely together. It's important to note that none of us in my party were hungry due to the food marathon we had all day prior to coming here. I think that just goes to show how delicious the food is here. Sure, prices can be a bit on the higher end, but it's 100% justified. You can see them ahead of time, so if it's not within your budget, then make that decision before coming and deciding to leave a bad review when it's something that can be researched ahead of time. I've had much worse for far steeper prices before. The house setting was a great choice. We had a table for 6 at 730pm on a Thurs, parking wasn't too bad on the street, but didn't realize it till later that they had parking behind the building as well. Walking up, I did not expect this restaurant to literally be a renovated house. We almost thought we had the wrong address driving through the neighborhood, but to our surprise it was actually very nice. We loved that we had a section upstairs pretty much to ourselves so it was private and intimate for dinner in just the right way. Service was phenomenal as well. For food, the 6 of us split their large short rib platter and large ABC platter. This allowed us to try their boneless short rib, seasoned short rib, marinated short rib, ribeye, soy ginger NY strip, and their pork belly. This was more than enough food when you add in all of their delicious banchan. These platters also came with white rice, soybean soup, kimchi jjigae, corn cheese, and steamed egg. Factor in the tasty variety of sauces, and you're in heaven. The high quality of the meat really shines through, and their servers perfectly cook the meats for you. I would 100% come back here again! The ventilation for each table was also good and I didn't smell like bbq after leaving. It was a bit on the pricier side but there was good quality meat and the sides were delicious. Got the small bori beef cut set ($100) as well as the small seafood pancake ($16) and beef tartar ($38). That was enough food for 4 people with 2 who weren't overly hungry. One person in my party said that the seafood pancake at the first location is better and crispier. I personally prefer Cote for higher cost kbbq, but for Houston this was good to experience once or for a causal place to celebrate. Service was good! read more

I came for the first time and I had an amazing time. The japchae was amaaazing. & so was the steamed dumplings. Ethan was our waitress. He did a great job. Also the manager on duty stopped by to make sure that everything was going well for us also which was a nice touch. Will be back read more

This was my first time at Bori. The Montrose location is such a cute spot. Inside is interesting since it's an hold house...or hostel?? Our party of 5 got seated in a room to ourselves upstairs which was actually quite nice. I might make some different meat selections next time but we did a good job filling up with the other apps/entrees too. I want a fan of the pork jowl. But all the dipping sauces are great. Pancake is filling- only do large for larger party. The spicy naeng-myun came as a great rec from our server as a cold noodle dish. Good flavor! I did enjoy having our meat get cooked for us so we didn't have to worry about that and could carry on with our ADD conversations as usual! They do have a valet lot, otherwise lookout for street parking between permit only signs for the neighborhood. read more

They do well in what they specialize in - KBBQ, but don't expect too much from the experiential items. First: the good. They offer very generous portions of side dishes, including steamed eggs, vegetable, soup, and the typical banchans like kimchi, radish, and eggplants. Despite thinking the meat portion was small in the beginning, it was actually perfect for two people when you pair it with all the side dishes. They also cook the meat for you so this is perfect for date nights with my girlfriends when none of us want to (or know how to) cook - ha! My number one obsession with this place is how perfectly everything is portioned and planned out. The meat cuts, the lettuce size, the carrot sticks, the kimchi - everything is calculated into the PERFECT portion for a perfect one bite. Even if you end up taking a half bite, every single item will perfectly breaks in half. No meat or kimchi slipping out and making a mess. There has to be a science behind this. The cons: Beef tartare was way too sweet and heavy in sesame oil; "Stone pot" bibimbap was served in a regular bowl, and I know one commenter has already spoke to the manager about this. This was a shame because the bibimbap itself was amazing. It just needs that crispy rice and charred flavor of a stone pot; Finally, dessert was a no no. Their dessert options were actually very impressive with a wide range. I have yet to try their cakes, but the Hotteok was store bought and incredibly dry, with almost zero peanut fillings. As an avid fan of Bori's Spring Branch location, I was beyond excited upon learning of its new location in Montrose. I was able to finally try this location on a Thursday night. Bori - Montrose is located off Westheimer in a neighborhood that you quite would have never guessed. Although, there are cars parked on the street, I didn't have trouble finding a parking space within the designated area. Bori also kept its iconic Korean gate as an enclosure around the outer perimeter. I did not have a reservation but there was more than enough space to fit my table of 2. Imagine that weekends are packed and this location does not offer lunch (yet?). The host and staff are extremely professional, friendly, and fast, expecting no less from Bori. For the most part, their menu is the same as the other location with a couple of differences. I ordered the beef combo which comes with beef belly and chose the (1) marinated boneless shortrib and (2) ribeye. Unlike other KBBQs, Bori's servers will cook your meat, and our server did a phenomenal job. The quality of beef is top tier paired with the assortment of traditional side dishes make Bori such a fantastic restaurant. Love Bori and everything they are for and highly recommend. read more
