Sad to report that my latest visit to Handam was not the same as my previous fantastic experiences. The service has not changed much, with servers, bussers, and banchan refills being quick and eager. While the banchan was still solid and large variety was all still on offer, the quality has noticeably dropped. Unfortunately, the meats quality has also declined. My favorite cut, the fresh hanger steak, came out frozen for every single order. To my best knowledge, the hanger steak was never presented frozen in years past. One thing that really threw me off during my most recent visit was the refusal of honoring a coupon that Handam had texted me. Be warned, that even 1 (One) single day after your birthday, they will not honor the birthday discount. Handam, one of my former favorite places to eat in Houston, is sadly a hard place for me to recommend. read more

Went to handam bbq for my friends birthday. I've been to their heights location but this is my first time at the bellaire one. They have a huge lobby to wait in is they're full. They have a couple arcade machines which were fun to play with. We got menu B which comes with extra meat, a free appetizer, and sushi. They give out a ton of banchan, my favorite is the fish cakes. For our apps, we got the scallion pancakes and kimchi stew. The pancakes were pretty good but we didn't start eating the stew until the end and it was cold by then. For the meats we especially liked the kalbi and bulgogi. Sushi was ok, I liked the salmon but the other ones were a little fishy. Decent overall but I def prefer the other location because hotpot seems more worth it to me than sushi, in terms of how good they tasted read more

Currently my favorite KBBQ spot of all times in Houston great meat and the sushi is surprisingly very good quality. My favorites are the La kabli(La Kabli suwon style is pretty interesting as well if you love garlic I recommend trying this first before you eat other marinated meats), marinated hanger steak, the beef belly, and Gochujang pork jowl but in general all of the meat are great but those are my favorite cuts. I really just like the sashimi from the sushi menu i cut out the carbs when eating kbbq. I love the ambience the decorations are nice and isn't to dark. The service is usually like a 6-7 out of 10 for me not the best but not the worst. My only complaint about the service is grill change they sometimes don't pay attention enough and sometimes you can't see your server at all. We had a great server in Tiffany, who dealt with our shenanigans expertly lol Shared parking lot, easy access off beltway 8. They have a high powered ventilation system so it's maybe the only bbq place we have been to where we don't smell like we've been there. We went for the upgraded AYCE menu which included 2 apps. We chose the seafood pancake and braised short rib, which was like a stew. Pancake was so-so, short rib was good. It also included their sushi menu, so we had a few sashimi options and a tuna tower, all decent but not amazing. Banchan was not bad. Meat selection had a nice variety and was good quality. Been wanting to try Handam BBQ for a long time. I was craving some Korean BBQ so I figure , now is the time to go! I went during lunch time to take advantage of the lunch menu ayce special. I didn't really need all the meats, so the basic meats were just good enough for me. The beef brisket, beef belly, pork belly - all great! The banchan selection was excellent!! From the fried tofu, noodles, chicken, and my favorite the fish cakes...I couldn't get enough! I've been wanting to checkout Handam for a while after hearing so many good things about it. I will say that the banchan is the largest assortment of banchan I've ever received at a KBBQ spot, and it was all very delicious. My partner and I got Package B, which comes with more meat options, 2 free appetizers, and sushi. All of that for the price was really worth it. The meat is pretty standard for KBBQ, it didn't particularly blow me away. We did have to ask our server to oil the grill for us because our meat kept sticking and burning on the grill. Our server, Amanda, was so attentive, helpful, and prompt. The service made our experience so much better. Tip: the busiest times are Fridays and Saturdays after 7:30, 8pm. Avoid those times if you don't want more than an hour wait. read more

We went on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was pretty packed, but luckily there was no wait at all, which was nice. As soon as we sat down, the server came by and filled the table with a bunch of banchan (side dishes) -- honestly, I was impressed. There were about 15 different dishes on the table, and we hadn't even ordered yet. We went with the AYCE B option, which is about $5 extra but totally worth it since you get more choices and a better variety of meats. With the B option, you also get two free appetizers of your choice (no refills though). I got the soybean stew and the braised beef short rib. The soybean stew was decent, nothing special, but the short rib was really good -- though the portion was a bit small, with three little pieces and one big one. We ordered a bunch of different meats, and honestly, everything was fresh, juicy, and didn't have any weird smell. The sushi and other items were also really good. I didn't really have anything to complain about food-wise. The only downside was that it took a while for someone to come take our order -- we waited over 30 minutes after being seated. We even finished all the banchan before ordering since we came hungry. But I could tell our server was super busy running around taking care of several tables, so I understand. Once the food started coming, everything went smoothly after that. The ambiance was okay. My husband mentioned he had been here before and said the place has changed a lot -- in a good way. The only thing I would fix is the TV placement. It's in a weird spot where it's hard to see, and I personally like watching something while eating. One thing I really liked is that they have a small playground and a few arcade games outside by the entrance. It's free, has AC, and there are benches to sit on -- a great idea for families with kids, especially if there's a wait. I've visited this location multiple times for their AYCE and their staff is always friendly and attentive in my experience. They are always proactive with switching new grills for us whenever it's starting to look too charred. The banchan is sooo good I could eat all of it but I have to save space for the meats which are also so fresh and tasty. I've never tried their chicken but you definitely can't go wrong with any of the pork and beef cuts! The tables are appropriate sized for KBBQ with just enough space for everything, and even though they don't have individual vents, the smoke doesn't seem to be an issue. With k-pop music videos setting the vibes in the background, this is the perfect place for catching up with friends, family, or even a date. Even though there are so many new KBBQ places around Houston these days, Handam is still at the top of my list for AYCE KBBQ. The menu has changed over the years, even the side dish options, but the quality of the food and service has always been consistent. There are two AYCE options: the $30 option with a selected amount of meats and the $35 option with everything (including appetizers). I stopped by on a recent Saturday afternoon for a late lunch for 4, so the restaurant was not busy. We were immediately seated and quickly got our orders. For side dishes, they now have a cart to refill everything whenever we ask. There are way more side dish options these days, which is super nice. Grill changes are frequent, and everything is super tasty as usual. You really can't miss when it comes to Handam. Expect a wait if you go during weekend lunches/dinners because it does get pretty busy. Otherwise, go during off hours if you don't want to wait. It's definitely worth it. read more

We hadn't been to Handam in a while, but we stopped by since we were craving banchan. As soon as we sat down and ordered the $25 pp AYCE, 15 banchan dishes were placed on our table within minutes. We also got the egg custard and scallion pancake. Unfortunately, the pancake wasn't crispy at all and reminded me more of a Korean kimchi pancake. The egg custard, however, was quite good--especially considering that a dozen eggs cost around $8 these days. For the meats, we ordered the pork belly, jowls bulgogi, hanger steak, ribeye bulgogi, and salted shrimp. They allow two hours for dining, with a limit of four meats per round. One positive aspect is that they frequently change the grill, which is appreciated. The meat quality was decent, but nothing exceptional. I would highly recommend calling and be put on the waitlist before driving out there. All the sides came out quick as well as the food. Sushi was mid in my opinion but the meat was good. Easily my favorite Korean barbecue restaurant between Houston AND Dallas. The price is unbeatable with the option of the base AYCE menu at $30 or the upgraded menu at $35, which adds on premium cuts, unlimited sushi, and two appetizers. The two appetizers used to be included in the AYCE price, but the unlimited sushi replaced this. Truthfully, most of the appetizer options more closely resemble entrees if you choose the stews or braised beef short ribs, so it's still very generous. I chose the soybean stew and scallion pancake for my appetizers and ended up taking half of the stew and the entire pancake home. To emphasize how much I love this place, Handam serves my favorite soybean stew even among regular Korean restaurants and this is primarily an AYCE establishment. On a less hungry day, I would be fine choosing the base AYCE menu and munching on the 14+ unlimited banchan options. Handam serves higher quality side dishes and is very attentive about refilling them with a person manning a mobile refill cart. This is a great place for AYCE Korean BBQ, if you choose the top tier option then you also get AYCE sushi. We ordered Cheesy Corn and Fluffy Steamed Egg as appetizers, both were delicious. I've also ordered the Seafood Scallion Pancake before which is also good, ask them to make it more crispy. We ordered the Geisha Roll - shrimp tempura and crab meat, topped with salmon, avocado, spicy mayo and yumi eel sauce. Which was good, for the AYCE, you only get half. We ordered the fresh salmon, tuna, eel and super white tuna sushi which were smaller than normal and thinner, but you can order all you want. We also ordered the AYCE LA Kalbi, Hanger Steak, Beef Brisket, Beef Belly, Beef Bulgogi and Sirloin Short Steak. All really good and marinated. The service was great and attentive replacing the grill when we needed. They have video game stations for people who are waiting to be seated. A claw machine. So they have an entertainment area with couches and chairs for the long waitlist that will happen on the weekend so be prepared for a waitlist. I absolutely love this place! 10/10 It's a pretty authentic Korean BBQ spot with great prices. My go-to is the all-you-can-eat option with the two free appetizers add-on. I've tried nearly every pork and beef option, and my favorite by far is the spicy LA Kalbi--10/10. It has a real kick but is also packed with flavor and super succulent. The thinner cut cooks quickly, and you get a nice smoky char. The cocktail selection is also a highlight, especially the watermelon soju. It's both strong and refreshing, made with freshly squeezed watermelon juice! Handam has become my favorite spot in Houston for Korean barbecue, and AYCE too! I feel that you get the best bang for your buck here with the all-you-can-eat and wide variety of banchan. I used love Gen, but ever since I was introduced to Handam, the bar has been raised high. I like that they use a combination gas + charcoal grill; the charcoal adds extra flavor to the grilled meat. But just be aware that depending on how they lay out the charcoal, the heat distribution on your grill can be uneven. We always go for the AYCE Option B, which includes more meat + appetizers at only $5 more than Option A. With B, you are given 2 free appetizers for the table + an appetizer of the day. I've always found the appetizer of the day to be mid (usually a pre-cooked meat dish), however the free appetizers are pretty good - we usually rotate between the cheese corn, steamed egg custard, crispy dumplings, kimchi fried rice, and seafood scallion pancake. For the meats, they usually limit you to ~4 dishes per round to prevent wastage. Our favorite hands-down is the marinated hangar steak. This is a quality cut of meat that comes out in a savory marinade. If you cook it right, the steak is super tender, and we always end up ordering at least one of these per round. We also really like the beef bulgogi, LA kalbi (beef ribs), and gochujang pork belly, among others. The meat quality here is excellent and you can tell that they don't just default to the cheap cuts for AYCE. Service here is always excellent. The servers are always attentive, coming by regularly to take orders on meats, refill banchan, and change out the grills. On the weekends, they put the banchan on a cart, so they will come by to refill your banchan at your table if you request it; during the week, they will refill them for you in the back. Every time I've been here, the atmosphere is always bustling with people enjoying their KBBQ. There is almost always a wait on weekends, although it is pretty easy to get a table during the week.. Handam used to do the Yelp waitlist but that wasn't an option on our most recent visit. I believe they have transitioned over to Minitable, and you can now join the waitlist via their Google listing. The format of AYCE KBBQ is supposedly a recent phenomenon (#1) in Houston, which is a surprise to me. What isn't surprising is Handam's rise as a go-to option for most glutton seekers, since they offer one of the most comprehensive deals in the city despite opening during the pandemic. Being situated along Sam Houston Pkwy just before Chinatown becomes Lil Saigon, certainly doesn't hurt. Their sleepy corner is prime with a semi-dedicated parking lot and a solid space that is extremely conducive to groups and family style eats. I would avoid for dates and young children, but a ravenous group of carnivore loving adults? Most definitely. Ventilation is decent and the layout is very ideal without feeling too cramped. There are two tiers of AYCE (A+B) packages , but I think the $35 one is the best since all the meats are included, along with appetizers and a daily special. The appetizers include some of my favorite items, such as tteokbokki, ramyeon, haemool pajun, and crispy mandoo. Anyone who is feening for cheesy corn and kimchi jiggae will be happy to know it's part of the their starter lineup. The daily specials range from korean fried chicken (Sunday) to haemool jjim (Tuesday) to stews like gamja tang (Thursday). The A ($30) only has 4 beef selections, where as for $5 more, one gets 8 additional items in the mix. The B set includes a good variety of meaty beef and pork cuts, with a small selection of chicken and seafood. (#2) The beef standouts for yours truly are the fresh hangar steak, ribeye bulgolgi, marinated hangar, LA kalbi, and sliced beef belly. On the porky side, the jowl, samsgyupsal (pork belly), and season pork shoulder take the cake. A true stroke of brilliance is their banchan cart, which is a push cart that continually makes the rounds to refill the various complimentary small dishes. I also super appreciate the refilling of sauces, oils, and condiments. This is one of my favorite things about the restaurant. I love it. On a service note, Handam might be the first Korean restaurant I've visited where speaking Korean isn't useful. It's also one of the only places I've ever seen where the staff doesn't assist with the cooking of the meats. They are excellent at refilling waters, taking orders, speaking Spanish, and swapping out grill plates and super friendly all around. Shout out to GM Jonathan, who always makes it a fun time for my group(s) and I. A big part of my eating / traveling regimen is going around and trying new places all the time. This was my first time at this restaurant, it's a cute nice spot and very well decorated. As soon as we sat down we were greeted nicely and explained the menu and how it worked. We started off by getting the premium meat option which came with a variety of options and fish/sushi and 2 appetizers. We got the fried dumplings & the cheese corn which was my favorite dish. The meat was very tender and nice flavor.i kinda wish the meats were a little more explained on the menu or maybe pictures added . I found myself at Handam BBQ with some friends for dinner; it was my last night in Houston before heading home and it was great to be able to get together one last time. Not knowing the area, I followed their lead after they suggested Korean barbecue. I've had KBBQ several times in the past and enjoy it, so I was looking forward to checking Handam out. Located in Chinatown, Handam is part of a shopping center and as such has a generous amount of space inside as well as parking. The decor is pretty straightforward - nothing too outrageous and the tables were set up as one would expect at a Korean BBQ spot with a grate in the middle for the meats to cook. We opted to get AYCE which included our choice of several apps as well as meats. Note that you have to cook the meats on the grill yourself; I'm only pointing this out since I've been to spots where they do it for you. We ordered a good amount - typical apps/sides such as kimchi and other veggies, as well as some standouts like honey crispy chicken bites and cheese corn. We got a variety of meats - mostly beef cuts but also some shrimp. Everything we had was consistently good; flavors were on point with all the apps and they complemented the meats well. Speaking of meats, they were all solid, however the shrimp was a low point and in retrospect I shouldn't have chosen to order it; you live and you learn though. Each of us got several sauces for pairing which really elevated the food. Service was excellent, they consistently came by to check on us, clean/replace the grill, and ask if we wanted to order more - it was definitely one of the highlights of the night. My friends and I went out to eat for dinner here on Sunday night. We were able to get a table very quickly. The service was very quick. However, if you're doing a double order of one type of meat, they tend to not do that so you may have to repeat that a few times. We went for the upper level all you can eat. We mostly ordered brisket and la kalbj suwon style and hanger steak. We also got the Sunday special, spicy fried chicken, that came free with all you can eat, and two appetizer was included. We tried to short rib, which wasn't that great. I would pass on that. And the cheesy corn, which is amazing. Compared to other kbbqs, this place gave a lot more variety of sides. But I ended up only liking the water cress, creamy salad, glass noodles, tofu, and potatoes (there's like 3 types). The radish one (pinkish circle) is marinated with jalapeño so it has a slight kick. The tables and chairs were sturdy and clean . I really like how well ventilated the grill was. we left not smelling like smoke. They decorated the restaurant Halloween theme since it is the end of October. I thought it was really cute. Parking is free out front however at this time there is a lot construction. This has been going on for maybe a year or so already. After tip, we spent about $45pp. No drinks. read more

We went here for a friend's birthday and we had made a reservation for 12 people. I do wish that they disclosed at the reservation that we would be split into two different sections. It ended up working out, but I felt bad for the few of my friends had to sit at a completely different table. It didn't really allow us to mingle together, which was the whole point of the birthday party. They are very strict with their two hour eating time and that's definitely because this restaurant gets really busy, especially on Fridays and the weekends. However, I do think that food needs to come out a little bit faster. We were only able to place three orders of meat for the entire two hours because we were waiting 15 minutes to 30 minutes between every order to get our meat and so it was very hard for us to eat our fill before the two hour time limit. We kind of assumed the 2 hour limit was ordering the food but it was 2 hours of us being at the table and so that misunderstanding is probably party on us. This was my first Korean barbecue experience where after dinner my friends and I were still hungry. The food itself was amazing with really good quality and I loved the variety of side dishes and appetizers again. I just wish the food came out fast enough for me to really enjoy everything. The menu had to offer. I will say what was really kind about them was when our two hour time limit expire, we still had leftover meat that we wanted to eat and so they did allow us to take it home, which is not normal and was definitely an exception so I really appreciated that. I really do want to come back here most likely with a smaller group to enjoy everything it has to offer and maybe on a less busier night. Open Labor Day and found out - Handam just got better! For those who select AYCE B option at $35/person, you get two appetizers and a daily special* per table. We got the Cheese Ddukbokki (rice cake) and Kimchi Stew as appetizers. The ddukbokki was too sweet for me but my husband loved it, and I liked the kimchi stew. More on this later. The banchan (side dishes) were not as fresh today as we are used to. The hummus with tomatoes was new for us and the tomatoes had been cut for quite awhile. The soy dressing salad had wilted by the time we got it. The potatoes and pan-fried tofu also tasted on the older side. Love their kimchi and sesame dressing salad though. Maybe the turnover isn't as high as before. For the bbq, we got (and will get next time): - Fresh hanger steak: New fav cut to replace the tongue - Brisket: Always delicious and greasy - or 1/2 order each of this and beef belly - Fresh sirloin, 1/2 order - Suwon kalbi (ribs): Sliced very thin, which is actually new and improved imo Try next time: - Marinated hanger steak Maybe also get: - Plain pork belly, 1/2 order - Marinated pork spare ribs (boneless), 1/2 order - Ribeye bulgogi The servers barely came by, which was surprising since we went at 2pm on a Monday and tables were not even half full. We ran out of water by the end, and hilariously, I am only realizing now that we never received our daily special. We were too busy eating to realize, and most importantly, they came by to replace the grill twice, so not a big deal. But we had barely touched the soup, and they said it has to be thrown away unless we want to pay the $15 to go. I understand that policy for the meats but for a barely touched soup, I found it wasteful. So overall, one star deducted for the daily special never showing up and the wastefulness, but I'm sure I'll give 5 stars again the next time we are there. Plenty of free parking. read more

Grills are much better than the silver-metal ones that get dark fast and burn up all your meat. + Lots of meat to choose from, 3 types of preparation of the kalbi. Kalbi and brisket is fairly lean! If you're lucky and sit at the edge, there's a ledge to put your stuff/plates - Can't reserve a table unless 10+ party. - Only 2 appetizers per table (plus the free daily one). Kind of sucks when you have a larger table. - LA kalbi has too much saucing on it. - Felt like staff didn't do enough to respond to a couple next to us with a baby that KEPT DROPPING A METAL CUP ON THE FLOOR EVERY TWO MINUTES. This updated review is long overdue. After posting my last review I came back about 10 more times & I have to say that it's been a lot better. The service is quick and friendly considering there's only 2 servers holding down the floor. Idk how they do it but they're able to take care of a full house. What I like about this spot is they give you a lot of banchan and they'll refilled it if you run out. With the $35 AYCE, you can order their appetizer (no extra charge). They have Seafood fried rice, Steamed egg custard, crispy dumplings, braised beef short ribs, Cheesy corn etc. My favorite item on the menu has to be Ribeye bulgogi, marinated hanger steak, sirloin steak. It's juicy, tendered and flavorful. The beef brisket has no flavor but I usually dipped it in the sesame oil with salt. The pork belly is my least favorite because it's mainly fat and the texture is chewy. Overall, this is a solid Korean BBQ spot in Chinatown and my go to whenever I feel like eating a lot. Great selections of meats however a little small. THe bulgogi was great and service was good even with a big party. The downside is the AYCE only allows one selection of an appetizer, but you can keep ordering it over and over. read more

This is probably the best Kbbq place I've been to in Houston. I personally really liked that there was ayce sushi here too because it felt like a nice break in between eating all the meat. The salmon sashimi was especially delicious and fatty. The Kbbq itself was delicious, and the sides were also solid. The service was fast, and I appreciated how often they came by to check on us. I also really liked how bustling and busy the ambiance was, but also secluded because we were in our own little corner. I wish there were two cooking tops at our table because it was a hassle sometimes to have to pass all the food back and forth with only one side of the table cooking, but other than that it was amazing. read more

I really enjoyed eating here! There are two AYCE options: A, which is $30 per person and has fewer beef options and B, which is $35 per person and has more beef options and comes with two appetizers per grill. One thing to note is that if you get an AYCE option, everyone at the table has to choose the same option. We did option B with appetizers cheesy corn, cheesy tteokbokki, braised short ribs, and one other thing that I can't remember. We had six people, so two burners, and therefore got 4 apps. The only thing no one liked was the braised short ribs. We got four different meat options and really had to lock in to finish everything but it was doable! I don't remember the names of the meat options we got other than bulgogi beef and beef kalbi. Either way, they were all delicious. We also asked for lettuce wraps and rice and they brought us some. They also come around and switch out the burners pretty frequently to keep them clean (I think ours got changed two or three times in the 90 minutes we were there). There's a cap of 2 hours but we didn't feel rushed. With six people, we had the option to split the bill evenly or just have one person pay it, and we didn't get any additional things like drinks so splitting it evenly worked best for us since we all got the same thing. Also, gratuity is automatically added when paying. I'll probably go again but wouldn't make it a regular thing, because it is a bit expensive and I go more for the experience than anything else. read more
