I am visiting the area from Los Angeles and I was having trouble finding an adequate cafe. I came across Gather and decided to give it a try. I was a bit hesitant because it seemed like an odd location, right off the highway. Immediately after entering, the staff welcomed me. I had a few questions and the women working at the register was very sweet, patient, and informative. She even informed me that they are completely non-profit and ALL of the proceeds go to a local church's charities. How great is that! Since it was a Saturday morning they were a bit busy and the food took a bit, but I didn't mind because the interior of the cafe is great. It has modern "hipster" vibes, yet it still feels homey and comfortable. Both the food and the coffee were excellent. If I find my self in this area again, I will 100% revisit. read more

We were in the area for a wedding and wanted a coffee place. We found Gather on Yelp and decided to give it a try! We had the Strawberry Peanut Butter toast and the Siracha one. They were both very good! They come with a side of fresh cut fruits. To drink we had their day special (Toffee flavor) which was really good - very sweet but loyal to the Toffee flavor! We also had their cappuccino - also good! We liked it so much that we went back in the next day. I'm really happy to have stumbled upon this new-ish coffee shop. It's spacious and the walls are windows. The cappuccino is very good. I mean, extremely good. Probably the best I've had in Hampton Roads. I've had a turkey club wrap, which was quite filling and pretty tasty. There's a meeting room that's well appointed. It looks like it would be a good place to host a small presentation - if I recall correctly, it seats about 18-25 ppl (I'll update this number if I remember to ask them). This place abounds peace. It's BRIGHT, spacious,CLEAN, and decor is updated. I was greeted by Pam who was a helpful angel. Her presence was so soft as she took time to explain to me the different coffee choices.(Not rushed like some other coffee shops) I was encouraged to enjoy the full experience for I would be there for a while. A really nice chic eclectic type of gathering place that serves coffee, food, smoothies and others. The atmosphere is really nice and it is nice decorated and has a relaxed feel to it. There are couches and chairs and tables and also a room for meetings or work lunches and has a TV if you wanted to hook up a laptop for presentations. I have been here three times and the first time I got a smoothie and a cookie which was pretty good. The second time I got there after 6 p.m. and they were closed. The third time I ordered another smoothie. The espresso machine was also broken the third time but I didn't want coffee. The only thing I see with this place is the price. It is a little on the high when it comes to price but I don't go here that often. It's also tucked away and I don't think people now it's here. A large, modern café that was mercifully quiet although there were probably about 15 or so people in the place when we stopped for lunch. Soup and sandwich were both good, espresso was likewise. The only bothersome part was the near total lack of masking and social distancing on the part of clientele. The staff were all masked. Given where we're at with the pandemic, this really matters to those of us who are doing our best to minimize risk both for others and ourselves. The place was clean, though, and large enough that those who are respectful of others' space can keep their distance. On a mild day the outdoor tables w/umbrellas would be a plus. read more

Decided to stop in for the first time after church to grab something quick. The staff was very friendly and the store itself is very nice. The reason I only gave it three stars is because all three of our drinks, 2 pumpkin chai and a hot chocolate, all came out luke warm and my food order was lacking. It also took around 15 minutes just to get to order and then another 10 or so to receive the coffee. Add another 7 minutes for the food. They looked a bit understaffed. My husband got a chicken salad sandwich which he said was really good. I got the avocado toast, which was very disappointing. For the price, I expected at least two slices. The toast was burnt and it lacked flavor. I had to add some salt and pepper to season it. I will give this place another try since maybe it was just an off day. read more

I found out about this place from Yelp because I was looking for coffee shops within the area with wifi. I saw pictures of the decor and had to try it out. I ordered a drip coffee first thing because there was a happy hour for a $1. It was pretty good! I was happy that they had coconut milk as well as a milk alternative. The coffee shop itself was nicely decorated with comfy setting. Was happy to see plenty of visible outlets, remote workers dream! As I sat doing work, I enjoyed the happy group conversations happening around me. Seemed like there were a few folks that knew each other as they came in. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the customers, big family or close friends. I sat next to a lady who was nice enough to watch my stuff as I went for a restroom break. I liked the music that they played. A few popular songs but instrumental versions. Very light to know that it's there but not distracting or overpowering. I tried the nitro brew and the spinach feta. Both were delicious. Ok if you need a quick pick me and awesome cup of Joe then this is the place to go. They have a shot of coffee called the Undertow and to be honest it has to be done in house but it's a experience you won't want to miss it's made with coffee on top of a bit of creamer in the middle finally on top of a splash of white chocolate I know it sounds strange but when you do the shot it all blends together hitting all the right notes. The caramel macchiato is also another pleasant blend of not to sweet of foam and coffee/caramel mix you should try. Next trip will be for the scones and sandwiches they all looked delicious. Really cool place! I've come to Gather a couple of times after church or the gym. I've had the avocado boats and the turkey blt. Both delicious! The avocado boats are a good low carb lunch or snack option! I'm intrigued by a lot of the breakfast items on the menu like the toasts I'd like to try eventually. I must say I've had the espresso in an americano which I did not like at all. I ordered it a second time to see if I was tripping and it still wasn't good. It had a very very bitter taste that was pretty much inedible for me! I've had plenty of Americanos that never tasted like that. Not sure if it's me or them but I'll stick to the food and other beverages from now on. Take this from a cafe layman: Gather is a quality cafe, especially when conscious of the alternatives Western Branch offers. Space, good coffee, conscientious service, clean bathrooms, it's an ideal study or reading environment. I'm there all the time. Starbucks lost my business as a student because Gather took it. The former "cafe" is more of a coffee conveyer belt and more power to them, but it's not what I'm looking for. read more

Realized I'm long overdue for a review here. This is easily the best coffee shop in the area. Everyone is really friendly! There is plenty of seating with a great environment. I love that the coffee shop supports a good cause. The food is excellent (I've tried several items & have never been disappointed. There are so many great options (vegan, gluten free, & healthy options too) with good portions & prices. Their coffee is always delicious & their tea is great too. They just added matcha to the menu as well which made my day! I've come here countless times & never had a bad experience. The only wish I would have is for extended hours in the evening because they close at 5 now. If you haven't tried this place out I'd definitely recommend it! I had a work holiday get together here in one of their rooms. We sat at a long table with plenty of elbow room for us. A window facing the parking lot which brought in some natural lighting. The meal of soup and sandwiches was also provided by them I found out later. The soup was delicious and served from a slow cooker. Apparently last year there was a grilled cheese that was out of this world. Sorry I missed that. I came in around 7:45am and order a blueberry scone off their menu. Within a minute after ordering, the girl from the back came around and told the counter person that they were out of blueberry scones (who runs out of the most popular flavor of scones?) and that she told them this yesterday. The polite counter person asked would a cinnamon scone would be alright. I said okay. I took my order to go and took it to my office a few miles away from the shop. While I was wanting a blueberry scone, gave in to a cinnamon scone, imagine my surprise when I open up to what looked like a Cinnamon BUN!
