Looking for a local coffeehouse at a great location? Try American Brew. Excellent coffee and baked goods. My wife and I live to go here then walk across the Lesner Bridge.

I planned to order a 20oz latte to enjoy in a mug, but the barista let me know they only serve up to 16oz for drinks "for here," so I went with that. When my drink was ready, it came in a paper to-go cup instead. I mentioned that I'd asked for a mug, so she poured it with a tude from the cup into one -- which wasn't ideal since the coffee had already touched the paper surface and probably made it loose a little heat. The froth and layers didn't hold up as well after being poured, which was a little disappointing. That said, the coffee itself tasted good, the café had a nice, lively atmosphere, and the prices were fair. It's a cold day and it's a bit chilly in here - we still have our coats on. I just wish the dine-in option had been handled a bit more carefully. What would've been nice is to offer to remake it in a mug (I should have insisted on this).

A nice vanilla latte and a PB&J latte to start the day.

My wife and I were driving by and decided to stop at American Brew, and we're glad we did. The inside is very nice and cozy, with a welcoming vibe that makes it a great spot to relax. They offer a monthly drink menu in addition to their regular coffee options, plus some fun adult coffee drinks. Their food menu also has a good mix of breakfast and lunch choices. We tried the iced vanilla latte and the iced PB&J latte--both were excellent. For food, we shared the steak and cheese breakfast burrito, which was amazing. The thinly sliced steak really made it stand out. Overall, a great find with tasty drinks, delicious food, and a comfortable atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

Just what I needed and in boycott Starbucks day! Fabulous lattes, great big moist muffins and a truly delicious avocado toast.

Gave this cafe a try since it was walking distance from the beach. It was a little overwhelming upon first entering due to the music being loud and there was lots to see & I wasn't quite sure where to order at first. There's plenty of seating indoors & a wonderful outdoor seating area. We ordered an Açaí Bowl & a Green Goddess smoothie with a side of Fresh seasonal fruit. The Açaí bowl had fresh and sweet fruit with a perfect combo of each fruit and the right amount of granola. The smoothie portion was tasty and went well with all the fruit. I'll definitely order this one again. As for the Green Goddess smoothie, I wouldn't order again. It wasn't terrible, just lacked any real flavor beyond chalky green flavor. We took a few sips & wrote that one off. The Fresh Seasonal fruit side was perfect and exactly what our beach day needed. Can't wait to come back & try more of the menu and experience dining in. Highly recommend!

Freshly baked blueberry muffins, a rich & fabulous Almond Joy Latte, and a vibe that was exactly what I needed to kickstart a bright and wonderful morning. The barista was incredibly friendly and amazing, making the experience even sweeter. As I drove out of town on an icy yet sunny Monday morning, American Brew was the perfect stop to warm up and soak in some positivity. The flavors, the atmosphere, and the friendly service made it unforgettable. Can't wait for my next visit and I must get some of this merch!!.

Great service. Nice and calm ambience combined with great food. They are currently sponsoring Spikes's K9 so they are true to their name American Brew. Found my new breakfast spot

    Spring Fling Latte Iced

We have been a big fans of the Locally owned American brew for its amazing atmosphere, friendly Baristas and superior coffee and breakfast options. The new April special "Spring Fling Latte" was no exception. The Iced, strawberry simple syrup infused white chocolate latte was the perfect refreshment after a beautiful day at the beach!

Love going to this place on the weekends after going to first landing . You can't go wrong with any of the drinks I normally get one of their seasonal drinks and their breakfast bowls are awesome and a large portion . The customer service is amazing, the vibe of this place is great one of my favorite places to go . Inside and outside seating .

My brother and I stopped on our drive down to outer banks and were very happy! Great breakfast and good coffee!

Definitely earned my updated 5 star review this time. Maybe it's the more less crowded, more laid back day but I feel that there's more attention paid to the details, less rushed to order, and maybe seemingly more selections. I ordered to go: steak quesadilla and power bowl with chicken, quinoa and hummus. The latter was yummy, 5 stars. The quesadilla is a 4, slightly more oily to my liking.

Thanks to the coastal coffee trail. We are trying another new coffee shop. This building has been the home of many things. We thought it had turned into a brewery. Totally did not know it is coffee too. So as soon as I told my friends we wanted to visit. It is awesome!!! They are way more than just your run of the mill coffee shop. They have a really good cocktail, beer, mimosas, tea, smoothie and coffee menu. Oh, but it does NOT stop there. They have wonderful food too. My friend and I thought we were just going for coffee but the food menu looked so good that we split THE BREWWITO. Yumm!! Lots of flavor. Filled to the brim . And they made it look so pretty. BTW all of the staff super friendly. You go up and order but just the beautiful smiles and sweet friendly nature is my favorite. They have real plates. A few places I have been to recently have to go containers or paper. This place is classy. Thank you so much for having real plates. I love the inside. From the gorgeous natural stained wood to the fun funky lighting. And both my friend and I got the giggles when we went to the ladies room and the table in there said "Get Naked". I don't usually take pictures in the bathroom but that was so funny I had to take a quick picture. That means they have a great since of humor too. The outside is really nice too. We were there during the day but I bet the twinkly lights are really pretty when they are lit. The photo op on the corner of the building I am sure is a favorite for everyone. It is a set of wings. We got awesome pictures I want to give them a standing ovation. I hope you will have many many years at this location. You are awesome and we are already planning our next visit

First, let me say the service was absolutely TOP TIER! The staff was attentive, friendly, and the overall atmosphere definitely gave that elevated dining experience. I don't mind paying for a fine dining experience as long as the food matches the experience. We started with the crab dip appetizer, and honestly it was solid. Definitely a good appetizer choice. For drinks, I kept it simple with a tequila sunset and substituted pineapple juice for orange juice a good drink! Now for the meals. I ordered the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and green beans. I hate to even say this because I had such high hopes, but the lamb chops lacked seasoning for me. I ordered them medium, but they were definitely more medium rare. I love a medium rare ribeye, but not so much with lamb chops. The mashed potatoes and green beans were decent, but overall needed a little more flavor. My husband had the Butcher's Burger with wedges. He said it was a solid burger, slightly overcooked, but still good overall. He did enjoy the different flavor the pork belly added. My daughter ordered the Pasta Pescatore and said it was good, but not necessarily an "oh my goodness, I have to come back for this" type of dish. Overall, because so many people told me I would LOVE The Butcher's Son, I think my expectations were extremely high. The experience and service were excellent, but the food itself didn't completely wow me. It was good, just probably not my first choice for a return visit.

The atmosphere is nice, the food is spectacular, service this time was just ok but not something that would ruin our night. Our waiter was very absent for the most part, it did take a while for us to get our drinks and order; not much check backs for refills and such but overall he was a good server. The food is always amazing, I've never had a negative experience for their food. And the location is nice. The establishment is clean, more on the higher end, we came in dressed to impress for our date but you had a mix of how people were dressed. Down to just your everyday wear. 10/10 recommend

Super glad we stopped in, the vibe is incredibly comfortable and cool and envelops your soul. Ambience: super cool, comfortable, a little dark, exposed brick walls with plaster patches, hardwood floors, heavy wood and leather furniture, incredible bar that is more like two bars in an L-shape with an unbelievable selection of anything you could ever want. This place is very solid feeling, you just feel safe and tucked in. Service: was fantastic, we met the executive chef named Ty who greeted us before we even sat down, just saw us sitting in the foyer bar and came over to say hello, very cool. We were greeted and seated by an absolute sweetheart upfront named Jackson and our server couldn't have been nicer, her name was Casey. Food: the food is all served tapas style, smaller plates, but well curated with interesting and innovative ingredients with beautiful presentation. Unfortunately, they were out-of four things that my wife wanted, she didn't want all of them simultaneously, she wanted one and they were out, and that happened three more times. Apparently, they often order in smaller batches and buy locally so sometimes they don't have as much as someplace buying in bulk, that's as much a positive as a negative, not a bad thing, just a bit of a bummer that she didn't get her first few choices. She ended up with the duck tacos which were good. We started with the brussels sprouts, which were also good and had nice presentation. We also started with bacon wrapped tots, the dish came with four of them and chili ketchup, beautifully presented, and rich, creamy, crunchy and yummy. I ordered the braised beef and fry bread and it was my favorite thing, very beefy flavored, warm and rich on soft pillowy fry bread with some cool crunch and crispy, thin plantain slices, very good. We started with a Chocolate Cherry Old Fashioned that was delicious. Overall the food was very good and the value was decent at around $12-$16 per plate. Overall: this was a really good experience and I'd go back to try some of the things they were out of and enjoy the incredible bar and stellar, considerate, thoughtful service. Definitely recommend!

It's the kind of establishment that understands both execution and consistency--two qualities that are increasingly rare and always appreciated. The shrimp and grits remains a signature highlight. The Creole sauce offers a restrained heat, balanced by a layered depth of flavor that speaks to careful preparation rather than excess. The shrimp are properly cooked, retaining a delicate snap, while the stone-ground grits provide a well-seasoned, creamy foundation. Each component is thoughtfully prepared, and together they form a cohesive dish that feels both composed and satisfying--an authentic nod to Cajun tradition without unnecessary embellishment. I swear I'm not making this up, this actually happened: 1) it took over 2.5 hours for the entrees to come out. One came out so early that by the time the second set came out they were already done. 2) The only appetizer that was ordered that actually came out, arrived after the entree was done. 3) One person's order had to be changed 5x because the waiter kept coming back to say they're out. She had always wanted to try it, it had a happy hour menu with food and drinks, so why not. We parked, walked the few feet over, got seated outside, and waited. Our waitress, Taya, was an absolute gem. Only 2 months working there and she was in her element for us. It was quite humid outside but it wasnt uncomfortable. The inside though was big and spacious (the big wall of Makers Mark alcohol bottles was quite a site to see). Now onto the food and drinks: For drinks I ordered their Catch 31 Orange Crush (delicious) and they went out of their way to prepare me a Irish Car Bomb (shot of Baileys Irish Cream in a pint of Guinness) the best they could and it worked out beautifully. My wife just had her favorite Blue Moon on tap and she had no complaints. For food we ordered a Buffalo Mac and Cheese (wife), The Mack (me) and coconut shrimp (share). The Mac and cheese my wife had blew her mind. The couple bites I took I could see why. The buffalo chicken on top was melt in your mouth tender and the cheese sauce balanced the spice out nicely. The Mack I had was a double cheeseburger with thousand island dressing, lettuce, onions, tomato, and pickles. I've mentioned the best burger I've ever had came from Smashed RVA but now it has competition in this one. It was fresh, juicy, and the toasted bun made it all come together. So good in fact I ordered a second one to go. Speaking of... The coconut shrimp we shared was so tender and the sweet chili dipping sauce would make your eyes pop out your head. It was spot on cooked, nice golden brown color, and very flavorful. My wife doesn't even like spicy food or coconut even but even she said she loved all of it. We got a second order of the shrimp to take home too. I talked to the manager on duty, named William, and told him my feelings and thanked him for a wonderful experience and meal and that we would definitely be back again. I can't speak for the people who gave this place negative feedback but I can say for my wife and I we had zero issues with the service, staff, and food.
