consistently some of them best Indian food I've had in the city. The owners are so kind, the meal for one is $18 and you will have left overs. You never need a reservation, they will for sure accommodate you. 10/10, one of the few places I visit probably monthly

This is my go to Indian food spot in all of NYc. Hidden gem. Definitely the best authentic Indian food hands down. Tastes like the Indian food you get in England . Just hits different than all the rest. Last night we got bhindi masala, chicken jalfrezi and chicken dopiaza which was a request , wasn't on the menu but they made it specially. Love their garlic nan bread. Complimentary dessert was mango coconut pudding was delicious. They have a weekday lunch special too. Highly recommend if you want authentic Indian food. Five stars

In terms of sit-down Indian restaurants in Manhattan that is not in Murray Hill, I think Gandhi Cafe might be the best one out there. Came here on a Saturday night close towards closing. The service was fairly quick given that things were winding down. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The ambiance is very no frills. We got the lamb tikka, chicken vindaloo, garlic naan and some samosas. They were all very good. The chicken vindaloo was a tad bit spicy. The naan was very fresh. All in all, it was a very delicious meal. I would definitely come back again especially if I were looking for a sit-down place that is a good deal, especially in the West Village.

YUM. I ate here with my husband, food was great. We both got the dinner for one person that came with an appetizer, main, bread, rice and dessert. Lovely place. Servers were helpful.

Great Indian food for an awesome price. We ordered off of the lunch menu which came with tomato lentil soup, onion fritter (likely not GF), garlic naan (not GF) and unlimited basmati rice. I ordered the tandoori chicken & my partner got the chicken tikka masala. Both were so amazing. We also ordered masala fries- all for only $28.15! Good service and we were offered amazing rice pudding on the house before we left. Nice ambiance although it was not busy.

The perfect place for some comfort Indian food! The service is great and the restaurant owner is the sweetest man. He makes sure everyone is taken care of and goes out of his way to ensure guests are enjoying the food. The food is amazing too! Presentation is great. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Small Indian place in the West Village. They have a nice lunch special, but I wouldn't bother unless you have a lot of time to kill. I made a reservation and they confirmed with me via phone call the night before, but they still seemed unprepared for us and didn't have the table setup ready. Took a while for the food to come out as well so the whole ordeal took close to 2 hours. Ordering was chaotic and our waiter was confusing / not very helpful. Butter chicken ($13) - got the regular size, not lunch special portion which is much smaller. The regular size was a normal portion size, albeit on the smaller side. Came with rice. This was tasty and creamy, and had a nice amount of chicken in it. Cheese Naan ($5) - this was great, and the cheese inside was flavorful. It came warm too so it was still melty. Overall, pretty good casual spot but wouldn't come back here for a company team lunch or anything time-sensitive.

** OLD SCHOOL CHARM - WE HAD A LOVELY DINNER ** I haven't been here in a while, but decided to come with a visiting friend this past week. We had such a nice time; the food was delicious and the service was on point. No one batted an eye when we asked for the dishes to be made without ghee and no one rushed us at all; we got to sit and enjoy every bite. The restaurant is attractive and quiet and has old world charm, as do the staff. My friend was sad she didn't have time to go twice. Next time for sure. In the meantime I'm still craving the aloo gobi and samosas...

I had some chicken curry, garlic nan, and a mango drink. All of it was amazing. My dinner date had tandoori salmon. I had a taste, and it was even better than my food which is hard to imagine. We were walk-ins and although there were quite a few parties in the restaurant, we were able to be seated immediately. The staff were nice and attentive and gave us pretty good recommendations! To start we shared the Vegetable Pakora and oh my gosh it was so crispy and seasoned perfectly! That got us so excited for the rest of the food. For our entrees we ended up on Lamb, and the staff recommended the Achar Gosht and the Kadai Gosht. Both were so good! Lamb was tender, it was overall super filling and paired well with the aloo paratha! I can't wait to eat my leftovers! Mughlai Grill is even better than I remember and I can't wait to come back! I will be recommending it to everyone!

In short, amazing…read more Service was great, friendly, and very cognizant of allergies. - Ghee Whiz - smoked cocktail, really good, flavorful, smooth, unique - Paneer - on the one hand, $20+ for two pieces of paneer seems crazy but on the other hand that paneer was so melt-in-your-mouth texture maybe it's worth getting again, but probably not - Beef pepper fry - amazing, my favorite dish we got. Definitely a bit on the spicier side but incredible flavor, beef all cooked well, great presentation on the skillet, so worth it. - Makai Lamb - the lamb itself was incredible; imagine a giant lamb bone with meat falling off into a thin soup-like sauce. The sauce was delicate in flavor, allowing the lamb to really shine and it was delicious. So filling too, a ton of food. Only weird thing, the two chunks of corn cobs felt out of place. Will definitely return, delicious and best done with more people to try more dishes.

They gave us green chutney and fresh sliced red onion as well So overall it was a positive experience.

Rich, creamy, perfectly balanced, and easily the best dish of the night. We also tried the chicken vindaloo, which was delicious but definitely really spicy--great if you love heat. After an hour of waiting for our food, the three tables around us who arrived after us already got their food and were nearly done with their meal. We ask about this twice, and each time the owner says all three tables "pre-ordered" their food. I was confused and asked every table if this was true and obviously it was not. Before leaving, we confront the owner about the inconsistencies in his story, but he just double downs on his lie, alleging that we don't understand how a restaurant is run. For some reason, he even started to yell at the busgirl who was trying to get him to apologize? In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. The food was admittedly good, but not good enough for them to have the attitude they had.
