The paneer roll was amazing - super flavorful, and the onions in it were SO good. My only note would be that the paneer pieces could be a bit smaller to soak up more of that flavor. The malai chicken roll was solid - super tender and tasty, and I think it could use a little lime or something tangy/zingy to really make it pop. In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. Colloquially they become known as Arabisches Gyros and are served up with the spice level turned up. I have not been able to find this in the US and still have not; though, they give it the effort at Berlin Doener. I was passing by Berlin Doener one evening and almost kept walking, given I have not been able to find the Doener served up the way they do in Germany. However, I walked in and the two guys working there were as gracious as they could be. They offered me a sample of the lamb and it was like so many other places in the US, but they said they had a spicy sauce and I could see the shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, onions, pickles and pickled red cabbage or radishes. So I opted for the Doener bowl to go and ate it at hit. They gave me an extra to go ramekin of their spicy sauce, along with their white sauce. They shaved the lamb and placed it one container and put the veggies in the other container. They gave me a quarter of the bread round, which is similar to pita, but thicker and fluffier. It warms up nicely when you sprinkle it with water, wrap it up again in its aluminum foil, and warm it in the oven along with the lamb. The lamb is very tender, but not spicy. I needed every bit of the spicy sauce to boost the flavor, but it did not hit me the way I have experienced, but it was a good attempt.
