This place is a must visit location! They have build-your-own bowls or tacos. You won't regret coming here because everything is delicious :) I had amazing customer service from Jaythan on 3/26/26 and I can't wait to come back. I highlyyyy recommend trying the chicken naan taco and the okra. The restaurant is also nicely decorated and it has indoor seating. read more

Ambo - Indian Near Me - New York, New York

It's very close to NYU, so you really have no excuse not to try some great Indian food. The biryani sauce was excellent, especially paired with the green sauce. Ambo delivers a savory bowl for around $15. The staff are friendly and will even offer samples if you're curious about the tea. The atmosphere is pretty chill compared to other nearby eateries. If you're looking for a nice, quiet spot away from the noisy Chipotle next door, this is a great place to be. read more

SO YUM! Think of a Chipotle-Indian spot - great for a quick bite, whether you're dining solo or with a friend. Staff is quick and informative about what each item is and what their recs are. I really enjoyed my bowls on both visits! I got the standard popular items - White rice, Black Dal, Chicken Tikka (with their sauce), Potatoes, Cucumber Raita, Kachumber, Eggplant Dip are all great toppings, and topped my bowls off with Cilantro Mint drizzle (can't go wrong with any of their drizzles). The bowl looks like a small portion, but it's actually very filling! I've also tried their Mango Lassi beverage and it was DELICIOUS! Nice sweet drink to top off the meal. While some critics may say this spot may not be as authentic, AMBO is still a reliably delicious spot that stays open till the evening, which is convenient. Will be returning! read more

Convenient and yummy! Before I start the review I just want to show some appreciation to the beautiful display of plants in this cozy Indian food restaurant. They are stunning and honestly bring the meal together; which is super filling and bright with flavour. I chose the turmeric saffron rice, chicken tikka, pickled onions, sweet mango chutney, and a couple more ingredients to complete my meal. The combo was well balanced, with hints of sweetness, some spice, and overall satisfying texture. I think what really brought it home for me was the Mango Lassi; smooth and sugary. read more

This is one of the best fast casual spots if you love Indian spices. The portions are big and the food is delicious. They don't skim on the chicken (if that's what you order) and it's tender and covered with a good amount of sauce. I also love their samosas. Vegan with a spice kick and lots of flavor. This location also sells authentic Indian products on the shelf to the right of the counter. I saw spices, soap, incense, energy drink, candy and other goodies if you want to immerse into the culture. The prices are super good for the amount of food. You can easily get two meals from one portion. Run don't walk (Before they raise their prices. Fingers crossed they don't.) read more

Indian fast food in NoHo, just off Broadway on East 8th. I went with a work colleague who works in The City. We each got a bowl - non-veg over yellow rice for him, veg over mung sprouts for me - samosas and drinks. My food was tasty but looked very sloppy - all the add-ons mixing together till I could not tell where the daal ended and where the paneer masala began! His was slightly better defined, and he polished his food off just like I did! Total bill was a shade under $50. Service was friendly and parking available on the street outside. read more

As a meat eater, I do have a downward bias for vegetarian places but the food at Ambo packs enough of a punch in terms of flavor that I kind of forget that I've gotten food from a vegetarian place. I've gotten their rice bowl a couple of times to go and it was very tasty and delicious. Also, kudos for being environmentally friendly with their use of biodegradable utensils. The space itself is pretty small and casual. I wouldn't go on a date here but would go here for a lunch appointment if I worked in the area. The service is friendly and quick. In terms of casual and affordable Indian spots, it's probably one of the better options in the area even in spite of the lack of meat options. read more

Food is amazing and quick. Service was perfect and the workers made sure I was taken care of

I'm skeptical sometimes about "Chipotle of..." places or anyone who uses the word "protein," but Ambo offers a quick trip to bold flavors. Going in unprepared, I felt a bit like the person at Starbucks who requests a "large." With chicken, paneer and falafel being the only protein choices, the real action is in the accompaniments. There's a bean selection (black dal was great), plus two toppings and two "drizzles." I endorse the green chili hot sauce. read more

After living in the US for so long, the simple comfort of a home-cooked meal becomes something you value more each day. Ambo brought that nostalgic taste of home back to me in the most delightful way. The concept is easy--choose a base, then add beans, protein, veggies, toppings, and sauces to create your perfect bowl. What truly amazed me was how every item complemented the others, coming together in a symphony of flavors. The bhindi deserves a special shoutout--I'm obsessed with okra, and this one brought me right back to my mom's kitchen. And then there's the biryani sauce--mind blowing. It tastes just like biryani and takes the bowl to a whole new level. Plus, the portion sizes are fantastic and so filling. Beyond the food, the team at Ambo is warm and welcoming, and the space is cozy. Out of all the Indian restaurants I have been to in NY, next time someone says they want to taste food that tastes like home I am bringing them here. Highly recommend! read more

A Chipotle restaurant concept, but it's Indian food instead. I don't think I can think of any fast casual Indian restaurant, so this spot is really unique in that aspect. The selections as you build your own bowl is rather quite healthy and tasty. Definitely get their mango chutney sauce, which is freakin delicious. Aside from the bowls, they also have house made Mango Lassi, which is something I always get when I'm dining at an Indian restaurant. Delicious as always. read more

Food was merely OK, not memorable, bit on the expensive side. Place wasn't very clean. They whined that they were cashless when I offered to pay with cash, then grudgingly took legal tender when I reminded them that NYC law requires them to. Shame on cashless businesses. Cash is anonymity, cash is privacy, cash is the anti-fash. read more

Do you like Indian food?? What about quick eats?? Well Ambo in the west village combines both of those! It's a fast casual Indian restaurant that has tons of options. The service is fast and you can be in and out in no time. you start with a base, add your choice of lentils, protein, veggie, 2 toppings and unlimited sauces drizzled on top. I opted for the basmati rice with yellow dal, chicken tikka masala with dark meat, bhindi (okra), baingan bharta (eggplant chutney) and a hard boiled egg. They even let me choose if I wanted dark meat or white meat! let me tell you, this was SO FILLING and definitely worth it for about $14. The food had a good spice level and it's an extremely unique lunch idea if you're tired of your basic and overpriced nyc salads! If you work/are a student in the area, I believe you can even get $2 off your meal. I definitely want to go back and try more of their items since they have a ton of options! Make your own Indian bowls! Ambo has a ton of options and if you're looking for a quick flavorful meal then Ambo is your best bet. I was looking for something quick and simple and Ambo hit the spot. I ordered a white rice bowl with black/yellow dal and chana, gobi, and chicken tenderloins. The curries and dals are super flavorful and pair well with the white rice. The chicken was a little dry and it could have been flavored better so I'd recommend going with the paneer or falafel option. The gobi manchurian also didn't feel like Manchurian it was more like sautéed/steamed rather than crispy but it was still a good topping. Good option for a quick flavorful lunch! read more

If you want to have some of the most delicious Indian food, go to AMBO. It is a modern and casual spot with a great variety of Indian delicacies. The bowls include a base, beans, protein, veggies, toppings, and drizzle. They also have tacos, roti, rice pudding, and a variety of beverages including my personal favorite mango lassi. My bowl had Basmati Rice, Chana Masala (chickpeas) Batata Bhaaji (potatoes), Chicken Tikka, Sweet Mango Chutney, Baingan Bharta (eggplant dip), and cilantro mint. I also had a side of roti and a mango lassi to drink. Overall, the food tasted delicious. Everything was flavorful and I especially liked the sauces that really complemented the proteins. Unique build-your-own Indian platter place for under $15! Their setup is Chipotle-style, in which all the ingredients are on display for you to choose, but a staff member will assist you with actually building your bowl. You can add toppings and customize to your taste. The portions were very generous and one order of their Everyday Bowl was enough for me to make two meals out of it. In terms of ingredients, I particularly liked their chicken tikka masala, which was very flavorful and tender. I was also a fan of their chana masala (chickpeas), pickled onions, and biriyani sauce, which added a great flavor profile to the already well-seasoned food. The staff was very welcoming and helpful with any questions or requests that we had. There are a few seats inside, so you have the option to take your meal to-go or sit and enjoy your bowl fresh. I liked how the.bar seats by the window were lined with plants - it really added to the cozy and homey feel. Overall, this is a great spot for an affordable and filling meal. Wow y'all Ambo is the absolute SPOT. Everything here is insanely good and it's still an affordable meal. In the restaurant they give a mix of items neatly arranged in a bowl. The chicken tikka masala is just so good - fresh and high quality chicken, flavorful sauce that's creamy but not too heavy - done just right. The okra and black daal were solid too. The staff has been friendly and the food has been consistent every time I've been. Recently my company catered them for lunch and it was just as exceptional. They had these beef kofta meatballs that were next level - not sure why these aren't available in store. Ambo is an easy winner in the neighborhood for taste quality and value. read more

Small space with big flavor! Ironically enough it is next door to a chipotle and has the same selection process, but with more unique and tasty food options in my opinion. The service is straightforward and the wait wasn't long while I was there! Overall ! read more

Strange I came back half a year later and the food portion and taste has changed. Not sure if the chef has changed or I was hallucinating, but even the portion size felt smaller. The price has stayed the same so probably the pricing is due to pandemic which is fair. If you have had Ambo when they opened, one can sense the changes in the food. It's not bad at all, but very average. A great place to introduce people who are new to Indian food, but maybe not for someone experienced who is looking for that "it" factor in taste read more
