    Butter Chicken
    Jahnavi U.

I ordered takeout from this place last Sunday when we were visiting family nearby. I got butter Chicken (mild spice level) which priced at $24 and garlic naan $6. The chicken entree came with jeera rice. The total was about $33 including tax. It was a bit pricey Also, I was disappointed with the chicken entree. While the sauce was rich and flavorful, the chicken was not tender and didn't taste good. I ended up eating the sauce and left the chicken. The garlic naan was alright; i wish it was more garlicky.

We love Indian food and this place is a short walk from the 9/11 Memorial. We wanted somewhere to go and sit down and have a good meal. It is a short walk and worth it. The food here is amazing and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. It was nice and quiet and they were not busy the night we went. Definitely a must try if you are looking for some good Indian food that is very authentic. Give them a try for yourself.

In our adventure to find good food in new places, we were craving Indian food. So we found Benares Tribeca. A couple of blocks away from the Oculus but far from the crowds, Benares was waiting for us. The place was dark with a fancy and romantic vibe. It was quite spacious, a rare occurrence in NYC. When we arrived, we were the only patrons and the servers were quick to help us out. Every single one of them was very attentive and friendly. Four our drink orders, they recommended a lassie and we were easily convinced, and gladly so, as it was creamy. For the food, we started with masala fries with a nice hint of spice and an even better batter. For entrees, we got the lamb and chicken vindaloo and our friend got the chicken tikka masala. The portions were enough to get us satisfied. The rice had a nice hint of bay leaves and cardamom. The lamb was perfectly cooked and tender. The chicken was tender too. The vindaloo sauce was spicy but not overwhelming; it was perfect. The tikka masala was creamy and smooth. Overall, this was a great place to end our day of walking. We ended up satisfied with the amount of food, the flavors, the company, and the very relaxed environment. Our servers were stellar. Our experience, fantastic!

Absolutely delicious Indian and Southeast Asian Cuisine! The butter chicken is moist and flavorful. The samosas have a flaky yet tender crust with a fresh and well seasoned potatoes & peas filling. The garlic naan is so fragrant and soft, the perfect vehicle to dip in the butter chicken. Oh and their sauces are freshly made and among the best we have tasted. Don't forget their mango lassi, it's a winner every time.

Benares Indian Restaurant, in Tribeca, NYC, Located in the heart of Tribeca, Benares stands out as an exceptional Indian cuisine jewel in the vibrant culinary scene of downtown Manhattan. named after a city in northern India, the restaurant centers on the lush spices and abundant diversity of Indian cuisine. We tried Drinks Lychee lover - alcoholic Mango lassi - non alcoholic Appetizers Khasta Gobi Chicken 65 Entree: Saag Paneer Chicken Dum Biryani in clay pot with naan in top Lamb Rogan Josh Garlic naan Plain naan Peas Pulao Dessert Rose ice cream The robust menu is almost overwhelming, and yet authentic serving contemporary Indian cuisine. Do not skip chicken 65 , Lamb rogan Josh, Chicken Dum biryani or the saag paneer they have an ample selection for both non vegetarian, vegetarian and couple of vegan options like Khasta Gobi ( cauliflower) all are stand-out options that deserves attention. Finish off with refreshing rose petal ice cream. The ambience strikes a perfect balance of serenity and sophistication. Staff's knowledge and recommendations are much appreciated. With its flavorful food, attentive service, and tranquil setting, Benares has carved out a niche for itself as a must-visit Indian restaurant in NYC.

I dined at this delightful Indian restaurant with a large group for my belated birthday dinner. Upon entering, the hostess gave me a warm welcome and wished me a "Happy Birthday." The interior was spacious with a bar area in the front and comfortable booth seating inside. There was low lighting and a sophisticated air to the place, along with a calm, peaceful atmosphere. Of course I started with the Mango Lassi, which was wonderfully thick, smooth, creamy with true mango taste. For sides, I had the Masala Fries and Garlic Naan. The fries were amazingly crispy and well seasoned with a bold mixture of spices, including garlic, chili, and more. I wasn't really a fan of the Garlic Naan, because there wasn't enough garlic. I got to try my friend's Poori made with wheat flour, which was oh so addicting. It had a perfectly golden brown, crunchy exterior with irresistibly puffy soft interior, along with a wonderful savory flavor. I ordered the Mixed Grill for my entree, which came with tandoori salmon, lamb, shrimp and chicken. The salmon was my favorite. It was tender, flaky, and full of flavor. The lone shrimp was tasty and definitely would have liked more. There were 2 types of chicken (with and without bone), which was slightly charred, juicy, as well as succulent. Last, the ground lamb was pretty good, but the way the lamb was prepared is not my favorite. I think there could have been a bit more shrimp, and less chicken. Dessert was Rose Ice Cream Meltdown, which was accompanied with chocolate lava cake. This was beautifully plated with raspberry syrup surrounding the ice cream and cake in the shape of a flower. I simply loved how pink the ice cream was. The only thing it was missing was a lit birthday candle. The rose ice cream was velvety smooth with delicate taste, while the cake was rich, sweet, oozing with warm chocolate center. Service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and took care of the group with ease. Pricing was surprisingly reasonable, especially for the area. I would definitely return and would like to try the Goan Salmon Curry, Lamb Korma and Rose Lassi.

This wonderful Indian restaurant is worth frequenting often. The relaxed atmosphere, the attentive service, the delicious food will bring me here over and over again. The maitre d made us immediately feel like we were family. My son was excited to order a rose lasse, drink that has become rare to find but is on this menu and we were not disappointed -- it was perfect. As were the samosas, the best tikki masala we've had so far in Manhattan, and the tandori chicken was moist and flavorful. Plus the prices were very affordable, especially since the portions were so generous we'll be having left overs in our salad tonight. I HIGHLY recommend. There was absolutely nothing to complain about and a wonderful time was had by all. Enjoy!!

Food - impeccable Service - unmatched Truly unreal experience, 12/10 Got Tikka masala and butter chicken - waiter recommended korma instead, it was banging.

Ok so the service was excellent. Our waiter was great and very accommodating. Food was ok. We def enjoyed the dal Makhani, it was very flavorful but again lacked spice. Malai kebabs were tender but lacked salt spice and flavor. Butter chicken was good with garlic naan. The Naan after 5 min of being on the table, became crispy and hard to break. I think this is catered towards non-Indians and/or who cannot endure spice. Oh and by the way we did request for food to be spicy and with assurance I can say it wasn't.

What time does lunch deal end?

3 course lunch deal is 11am to 3pm!

I see in your answer confirming that your chicken, goat and lamb are Halal. Do you have halal certification? I didn't see on door the Halal logo advertised. I ate the vegetarian and wish to try non-veg option.

Hey Aly, hope you are well! Yes we offer halal. We don’t have a certificate but our supplier does and I can gladly get it within the week and have it posted within the restaurant thanks.

    Are the meat halal?

Yes chicken, lamb, and goat is halal.

Before leaving, we confront the owner about the inconsistencies in his story, but he just double downs on his lie, alleging that we don't understand how a restaurant is run. For some reason, he even started to yell at the busgirl who was trying to get him to apologize? In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. The food was admittedly good, but not good enough for them to have the attitude they had.

However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. I believe there are other Indian Accent locations in India, and was excited to try their NYC spot. We went on a weekend evening around 5pm and had a really enjoyable experience overall. Nice ambiance inside, didn't feel overly packed where we were sitting. Service was great for the most part. Shane, our main server, stood out and he was SUPER helpful in walking us through the menu and making thoughtful suggestions. That said, it's definitely a team-service setup, so multiple staff members will assist your table throughout the meal. Everyone had great energy and made the experience feel polished. We did the prix fixe menu and went with 3 courses each across our group of 3. Two of us opted for the "midis" and one went for dessert, but we ended up sharing everything. Even though the portions initially seem small, we were surprisingly full by the end. One important note: go into this with an open mindset. This is not your typical, "generic" Indian food experience - it's much more modern, creative, and experimental. We did a lot of research before deciding what to order, so here's what we got/ordered: Amuse bouche (complimentary): A pumpkin shorba (soup) served in a cute little cup and blue cheese naan. Both were a great start, and we actually asked for more of the shorba. They said they'd bring it, but it never came, which was a bit disappointing, but still appreciated the palate cleanser concept. Appetizers (ordered 3): * Phulka jackfruit: Kind of like a taco - really nice flavor with these crispies on it and a nice sauce. * Kashmiri morel mushrooms: I'm not usually a mushroom person, but this was excellent. Loved the creamy base and overall flavor. * Potato sphere chaat: Probably the weakest of the three. It was more sev than potato, and didn't quite hit for me. Midis (ordered 2): * Yogurt kebab: Very interesting texture with a nice chutney base * Sweet pickle pork: I didn't personally try it, but the other two in my group loved it Mains (ordered 3): * Sweet corn vadai: Really unique and flavorful - one of the standouts * Paneer kofta: Not my favorite; different from what I expected * Chicken tikka meatballs: Surprisingly good! I don't usually love meatballs, but these had a great texture and flavor Accompaniments (ordered 3): * Butter chicken kulcha: Easily my favorite - would come back just for this, but note it can be a little "greasy" * Daal with black garlic naan: The naan was unique with a slightly sweet taste; the daal could've used a bit more depth * Chana masala kulcha: A little spicy but still very flavorful Dessert (ordered 1 + 1 complimentary): * Banana sticky date cake: A lovely, satisfying end to the meal * Makhan malai (complimentary for a birthday in our group): Very airy and unique texture - not really for us personally, but appreciate the team supporting our birthday celebration We skipped drinks even though the menu is extensive - we wanted to focus on the food Overall, I really liked this place. The dishes were a mix - nothing was outright bad (except maybe the makhan malai for our taste), but not everything was a hit either. Still, it's a fun, elevated dining experience with creative takes on Indian cuisine. I'd definitely go back, especially for the butter chicken kulcha. Only real miss was the forgotten re-order of the amuse bouche, but otherwise service and vibes were strong.

Also let me say this place is aesthetically chic and the energy is very inviting. We started off with a appetizer which was the Paniyaram rice & lentil dumpling, asafoetida, & paatti's chutney, so very good and flavorful. For our main dishes we did the Gunpowder Dosa which was rice & lentil crepe, potato masala, & sambar. This reminded me of home and when my mom would make dosa for us, just loved how nostalgic it felt and the dish was just incredible. We also ordered the Mattu Iraichi Sukka beef short rib, black cardamom, tellicherry peppers with a side of Parotta. Chefs kiss , this was so bold and flavorful and the freshness of the ingredients every bite just lets in your mouth. I am so glad we got to try this place out , and cant wait to come back again to try a few more dishes. Thanks to the awesome staff that made our dining experience so enjoyable.

Semma is the most hyped Indian restaurant in NYC for a reason, but I don't know if ot's worth it…read moregiven the many options in NYC. My friend and I lined up at 4:30 PM on a weekday and were able to get in with no issue (we also saw around 6 00, there were open spots at the bar). In terms of the food, the gunpowder dosa was amazing (best dosa I've had) and the lamb chops were really great as well (super flavorful). However, the oxtail and prawns were a little low in quantity, and also didn't have flavors that were as distinct. And that's the main reason I wouldn't return as often; given the price and the michelin star, I would've expected some more variety in flavor from the dishes, but didn't find that as much here. I would still recommend this place, as the food and drinks are good, as is the service, but at the price and diffocilty of getting a spot to eat, I may more consistently check out the other great Indian options in the city.
