We were super excited to try this place as it's under a big restauranteur name but left totally disappointed. It didn't live up to the hype. The kebab rolls are not worth the price, given there is better Kolkata style roll place in the city. I got paneer kebab which is good - the house made paneer was quite juicy. But I felt it lacked some flavor. My friends ordered lamb and chicken rolls which they mentioned was too spicy and one of my friend even had a bad stomach situation later that night.

I had dinner here with my friend inside Time Out Market on Saturday. I had the Chicken Tikka with Saffron Rice, Samosas, and Mango Lassi. My friend had the Chicken Biryani & Beef Birhari. The ambiance was chill & not crowded compared to the one in Brooklyn. Also the staff was really friendly when they brought us our food

Chicken biryani cover is cracker like and the perfect crunch paired with the rice and chicken. Peppery and the exact flavor I was looking for. Plenty of chicken

Chicken biryani was delicious and surprisingly not overpriced, at $16. Mango lassi was also good. A really decent food option if you're looking for something quick and casual at Time Out Market/Union Sq.

It was ok, they food wasn't freshly made it's all batch made, the flavor were kind of muted but the green sauce really helped. The paneer was kinda bland but it's ok. Service was really friendly and service was quick to get the food.

Biryani, lamb kebab, beef kebab, samosas (in the bag), lassi

I'm grateful that a standalone paneer kebab is now available at this stand in the Time Out market near Union Square.

So Annapurna Bhavan had my curiosity before I even walked in. The ambience was good. They don't take reservations, but we were seated as soon as we walked in. Sadly, the food didn't quite deliver. THE GOOD The dosas were well-made and honestly the highlight of the meal. Crispy, properly thin, no complaints there. THE NOT-SO-GOOD Ordered a Rose Milk. Got a rose lassi. These are two completely different things -- rose milk is a light, chilled milk drink; lassi is a yogurt-based beverage. Not a small mix-up if you know South Indian cuisine. The dahi vada was a letdown. It hadn't been soaked in yogurt nearly long enough -- the vadas were still firm, which defeats the whole purpose of the dish. Authentic dahi vada should be pillowy soft. A lot of the menu leans heavily Americanized. The oothappam topped with cheese and jalapeño is a prime example -- it's more Tex-Mex than Tamil Nadu. Fusion is fine, but don't call it traditional. BOTTOM LINE If you're in the neighborhood and craving something South Indian-adjacent, it's convenient and the dosas will do the job. But if you're someone who grew up eating this food and wants the real thing -- you'll probably leave a little disappointed. The location is great; the authenticity needs work.

The chicken was tender and so well flavored, the spicy was perfect, everything was fresh and delicious. Don't skip out on the mango lassi. I will be back many many times. After an hour of waiting for our food, the three tables around us who arrived after us already got their food and were nearly done with their meal. We ask about this twice, and each time the owner says all three tables "pre-ordered" their food. I was confused and asked every table if this was true and obviously it was not. Before leaving, we confront the owner about the inconsistencies in his story, but he just double downs on his lie, alleging that we don't understand how a restaurant is run. For some reason, he even started to yell at the busgirl who was trying to get him to apologize? In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. The food was admittedly good, but not good enough for them to have the attitude they had.
