My friend and I were shopping in HMart and decided to spontaneously grab a drink and something to small to eat with it. The upstairs of HMart has many different vendors, ranging from food to desserts and drinks. It is basically a food court where you would order and grab your dish at the counter once it is ready. You then return the dishware to the proper vendor when you're done. All self serve and seated. He decided on Gama, specifically the beef bulgogi dish they have. It was a random weekday night so it was pretty dead inside, with a lot of seating and not as much people. We grabbed a booth right by the Gama stall and waited. Once it was done, the cashier and I made eye contact and I went over to grab it. I enjoyed the banchan and felt that it really helped to increase the worth of the dish. The bulgogi was okay, it was honestly pretty low quality bulgogi but was just something to eat. With some tender pieces but some others were tough, chewy or overly fatty. I would recommend for anyone to check out the food stall at hmart, maybe not this one in particular but one of the stalls for sure! read more

Each dinner included the main (bulgogi or stew) and rice, mac salad, and tofu. The worker at the counter was friendly and the core of each dinner was good but also quite small for the price. It seemed like you were supposed to eat the rice and sides to get full but there really wasn't enough bulgogi to go with the rice. The stew also seemed to be smaller than an off-the-shelf ramyun. My hubby came upon Gama, looked at the menu, and he wanted to try the Sot Bap Han Seng, Street Style Pork Bulgogi menu item for $22.99. I was game! While we waited for our meal, I picked up a drink next door at Giovanni's. Our number was called and I walked up to pick up our order. Here comes the wow part. As I approached the counter, I was warned to be careful as the rice pot is steaming hot and the pork is sizzling in its plate! All perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was tasty and not salty, which we enjoy. They removed the top of the rice pot and a burst of steam was released. The rice remained very hot throughout our meal. I didn't realize HMart has its own food court upstairs. Walked up to check it out and was surprised by the variety of options. Not all of them were open at 4:15pm on a Tuesday, but that still leaves 5 options. Surprisingly 2 of the options are Korean restaurants right next to each other. I looked at Ireh first and was surprised at the prices of their dishes. I would pay those prices if I was dining in somewhere nice, but definitely not for a food court experience. Right next to it is Gama. Being a lousy half-Asian I thought it was a Japanese place and was just glanced at the menu out of curiosity as I was leaving. I saw Kim Chee Jigae and stopped. Taking a closer look it was a Korean place and the prices were more in line with what I would expect. Still on the high side but not outrageously so. I figured worth a try. I ordered the Kim chee jigae from a very happy person at the counter. Her smile was infectious! It was ready fairly quickly. The presentation was far nicer than expected, it was something I could see in a restaurant. In the soup there was a layer of meat under the tofu and it was really hot and decently spicy. It is one of my go to for my soon dubu jjigae or tofu soup. For tonight's dinner, I had Buk Chan Dong Soon Dubu Jjigae. It was seafood mixed with ground chicken, soft tofu, zucchini, onions and mixed in a spicy stew. It was served with seasoned spinach, kim chee and rice. I came 30 minutes before closing but the ahjumma or lady was nice and friendly from taking my order. I like coming here because it's like a little food court that provides different places to choose from. You can have your meal and then dessert right after. For me, it's a one stop shop also since you can do grocery shopping, which is on the 1st floor. You can eat first then shop. This will help prevent from over buying or shopping for things you may not need. Pleasantly surprised by this food court restaurant. Wandered up here just wanting small snack dishes but decided to get the full meal. The set for $22 comes with special pressure cooked rice, barley tea in a cute teapot, 3 banchans and the main dish. You cannot substitute noodles for the rice even though the menu confusingly reads noodles instead of rice. Those are separate dishes. The food isn't fast food so wait patiently. The person at the counter was helpful and patient and friendly. I'm a fan of rice that is on the drier side and this rice was perfect for me. Plenty of food and enjoyed the samgyeopsal (pork belly). This restaurant is located in a food court on the second floor of the HMart Kakaako. So it was an easy choice when we decided to grab lunch after shopping. Menu is clear and service is quick, around 10 minutes to get our order. I ended up getting the jja jang myun and bu dae chigaei, both of which were actually pretty good. It's not always easy to find decent Korean food, but the offerings here were actually pretty decent. Both dishes were hot and seasoned well. The chigae came with rice and banchan so you get a full Korean style meal. Just be aware, if you park for over an hour you'll end up paying for parking. So plan your trip accordingly! Located in the Market Eatery in Kaka'ako H Mart Gama has a great variety of Korean bites and since mom had asked for some Korean food for dinner I just thought this would be the place. Walking up I took my usual pictures of the storefront and menus without knowing there was someone sitting there even while I approach the counter to get a better view of the menu items and she was oblivious I was there for quite a moment. I asked about the "Street Style Pork Bulgogi" ($14.99) and asked if it was spicy and she says kinda spicy but it's the marinated so it couldn't be made milder but decided to give it a try and ordered a dish I've been obsessed with and haven't tried it here yet so it was "Refreshing Mul Naeng Myeon" ($12.99). You're given a number one once your order is ready it will be broadcasted though the central speaker of the restaurant name and number which is a system and my order was packed nice all ready for the transport home. Before that I decided to take some pictures and when I looked at the Pork Bulgogi I wasn't prepared for what I saw...spicy so I gave it a taste and it was pretty spicy...not for me but for the sensitive ones and it was salty and too sauce with barely any pork and the side items was a huge disappointment with four pieces of kimchi cucumbers and nine cloves of pickled garlic..seriously!? I ended up eating a few pieces and threw out the rest...sadly. The Mul Naeng Myeon is packed very nicely separated which I did enjoy at home the noodles was a bit different from other similar dishes I've tried a bit more mushy but the soup is very light and refreshing, though missing that banchan we're all used to know they generously offer was missing the whole meal just missed that mark. We went to H Mart Food Court in Kaka'ako (on the upper level of the building) because there are several different vendors serving Korean food. She went to the vendor with the spicy, cheesy mochi... Hmmm... I chose GAMA... A new vendor! The woman at the counter may have had English as a second language, but she was efficient enough. I had to point to pictures on the menu to order what I wanted. Maybe my pronunciation wasn't correct? I chose: JinjjaRu Jjajang Myeon (noodles with black bean sauce) with Seoul Style Beef Bulgogi. It came with a side of pickled (yellow) daikon (takuan) - yum! ...and there was a quail egg and julienned cucumber on top of my noodle bowl! I was afraid that the black bean sauce would be salty, but it wasn't! It had some diced onions and cucumbers mixed in. I liked the thin, chewy noodles! The few pieces of beef seemed more like pork belly because it was a bit fatty and chunky - not thin strips. The only downside was the wait. I believe that I ordered before my sister and my niece. They got their meals from other vendors and finished eating before I even got my order. I went to the counter to ask for takeout, but my bowl of noodles appeared at the window. I ate as quickly as I could... ... because our one hour for free covered parking at H Mart was going to expire soon. We ended up paying a dollar for parking - not bad. We had to get our ticket validated at the H Mart cashier. Oh, well... It was nice to catch up with my niece. The H Mart Food Court is spacious and clean. I threw it away after three bites because it was so bad, my appetite disappeared. The noodles I believe were ramen noodles, not the type of noodles that are meant for jjajangmyeon. The sauce wasn't very pleasant either. There's also wasn't even enough sauce for the amount of noodles. And I don't know if they just order too many zucchini's all the time because it seems like they put it into very dish for no reason. The young male employee at Gama was the most attentive. I decided on Beef Bulgogi because I have eaten this at other restaurants and have always liked it. I'm do glad that I ordered this dish. The meal comes with kimchee, cucumber, rice and of course the beef. Everything tasted so good and fresh. The beef was soft and tasty.
