It's such a bummer to write this review but we just had a frustrating experience on 3/30. My husband and I have been coming here for years and it's usually our go to spot before a baseball game. We made sure to get there early before the game, it was pretty dead at the time but the hostess made it seem like we were an inconvenience for making her work. Barely greeted us and seemed very upset. It took approximately 15 minutes before we were greeted by the server as the hostess just stared at our table. We were so frustrated over the lack of service we considered getting up and leaving but given we had a hungry 10 month old with us we didn't want to do that. read more

Restaurant Review: Gallo Blanco (First Visit) I recently had the opportunity to try Gallo Blanco for the first time. Since it's located close to me, it felt like a great chance to finally check it out. Through AMEX, I now have a REZY membership, and Gallo Blanco was the first recommendation on the app. To beat the brunch rush, I arrived right when they opened at 8 a.m. The menu had a lot of tempting options, but I decided to go with their take on a traditional breakfast: bacon, eggs, hash browns, and a side of Noble sourdough bread (ordered à la carte). The bacon and toast were phenomenal definitely the highlights of the meal. The eggs were fine as expected, nothing to complain about. The hash browns, however, were disappointing. The first batch came out cold. They were replaced, but the second round was soggy and lacked any crispness. I didn't finish them, and honestly, I'm not sure what they were going for with the texture. For such a simple order, the food took longer than expected to arrive, especially considering how early it was and how empty the restaurant seemed at the time. The interior of Gallo Blanco is nice it looks like an awesome spot to hang out in the evenings. Since I was dining solo, I chose to sit at the bar. In hindsight, that may have been a mistake. The bartender was clearly busy restocking and fulfilling drink orders for the dining room. I completely understand the morning setup routine, but as a solo guest, I felt more like I was in the way than welcomed. The couple at the bar with me did get better service...maybe I was having a bad hair day? At that point, the dining room only had three occupied tables, so it wasn't due to a packed house. Things noticeably shifted for the better when management arrived the atmosphere warmed up, and the service felt more attentive. That happened when my meal was completed. One small detail: I wasn't asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee (which had Kahlúa in it), however the option to refill with hot coffee would've been appreciated. Would I give Gallo Blanco another try? Absolutely. Next time, I plan to order from the dinner menu and request a table in the dining room, especially if the bar is somewhat busy. Another hidden gem I found this past month. My friend told me about this place and I was not disappointed at all. The food was very flavorful and had a filling portion. The presentation was pleasing along with the atmosphere the place had. This place had a Mexican modern feel to it. Our server was very nice and attentive to us. I walked in last night, just wanted to get a breakfast burrito for my early morning to go. I decided to have a glass of wine and dessert while I waited. I wish I had just ordered my food and left because the churros I ordered were burnt and my wine never came out to me. I'm pretty sure my server was drunk (at the very least) at first he was very attentive and then was mostly hanging out at the host stand while someone else brought food. I found his behavior to be super odd, and I can definitely tell when someone is under the influence. I paid for the burrito and churros (unfortunately) and left. Yes yes yes! There is so much to love about Gallo Blanco! I live contemporary art, and this place is like a really great art gallery. There is something great you see and appreciate on every wall. The food is fantastic. I had never heard of a campechano burrito, but am sooo glad I in know now. It is delicious! We also had the family style tacos, which was the perfect size for us. I met my friends here for breakfast on an extremely hot (and hungover morning). It was so hot that I didn't even want to order anything, but I knew I'd feel extremely left out once my friends got their food, so I decided to just get two tacos, and I'm so grateful I did. Let me just say, Gallo Blanco was a last-minute find that turned into a forever fave. Tucked away off 7th Street in what I lovingly call the cut, this spot wasn't even on our radar. My girlfriend and I were just craving a spontaneous margarita moment (as one does), and baby, did this place deliver. We were greeted by the sweetest hostess who turned out to be our server, and get this, she normally works the bar but was stepping in on the floor that day. We love a team player. She was warm, attentive, walked us through the specials, gave us the menu breakdown with finesse, and all with a vibe that made us feel like queens. I told her she was amazing and meant every word. I wish I remembered her name, but best believe when I return (for the fourth time), I will find her and tip extra just for the energy. The patio? Chill and charming. The margaritas? Dangerously good. I came back two more times, once with my gorgeous German friend (who knows good tequila when he tastes it) and even he said, "This is a vibe." And he's not easily impressed. Now, let's talk food. That Mexican soup? Delicious. Comforting. Exactly what I needed to balance the tequila. I was heartbroken that they were out of tamales, my ABSOLUTE favorite, but somehow, I managed to survive... by ordering five margaritas for myself and five for my very tolerant German friend. I've been to Gallo Blanco more than a handful of times and it's always a HIT. Only once my sope was extremely hard, and I had to return it but it was no problem, it was quickly fixed. Never disappointed. Being a Mexican chef myself, I can vouch for their food. (Idk about breakfast options, I don't eat breakfast outside of my kitchen) I went last night for the first time in 2025 last night, omg I'm still drooling. Got my usual sope with the carne mixta. Now that Barrio and Madigral are both closed it might be bumped up to the only ones left I will eat at now out of the Tex Mex quick food category. Yes, there is a difference. Great, relaxing vibe upon walking into Gallo Blanco on a Saturday evening. My group of 4 was promptly seated without a reservation and we had a great time overall. Service was good and attentive. We ordered the following: guacamole, Inca salad, Asada taco, Al pastor taco, fries, vegetable posole and lime tart. The Inca Salad is super fresh and it was dressed perfectly; we all loved this! My friends loved their veggie posole and we also really enjoyed the fries! My Asada taco was good, but nothing too memorable. My torta was also good with the bread being the best part. Red salsa is delicious and smoky/spicy, childe de arbol maybe? The green salsa is sooooo yummy. It's tomatillo and jalapeno? Has a lime-y flavor too and not spicy! Seriously, my favorite breakfast burrito I've had in all of Phoenix. My only complaint is unreasonable, but I will include it. This is my first time in Phoenix and we found this place on a reddit thread searching for brunch. The building is unassuming and kind of out of the way, but after breakfast here, I would definitely recommend the detour. The service was a little slow, but the food absolutely made up for it. The guac was good, and the salsas were absolutely phenomenal. I had the breakfast burrito, and it was maybe one of the best I've ever had. This place has been on my list for such a long time and I finally made it like 2 weeks ago (then have been 3 more times since then). My coworker and I do a lunch of lunch meetings here. We love it. The guacamole is so good and love the fresh made chips. Somehow they were even good left over at my house which I feel like is rare. As well, I've had the chilaquiles, a few street tacos, banh mi, and most of their desserts. My friend always gets the flautas (and I always help eat them). The banh mi and chilaquiles were great. The street tacos for me have been a little bit of a miss so far. They're good but other things on the menu are better in my opinion. The churros and tres leches though... wow. I always end up with 2 desserts and one is always churros. The line tart was also good but just prefer the other two. Overall, I love this place a lot and have been back pretty often. Peak times get super crowded and the service is very hit or miss. I've had really good experiences and pretty bad ones on that front. We took the family here on a Saturday afternoon, between lunch and dinner. The restaurant had some people in it but plenty of seating open inside and outside. We were seated quickly. Before I get any further, I was hesitant at first to come here as I was unsure of it being kid friendly. YES! It is kid friendly. They have a kids menu and crayons at the table. After being seated, it took a moment for our server to come by and take our order. This was surprising as the dining room wasn't particularly busy. Once we ordered what we wanted the food did come quite quickly. Our server brought chips and salsa out prior to our entree's and the salsa was great! One was on the spicier side, but luckily our family likes hot stuff. The flavor was magnificent and not just spice-heavy. I ordered the Chilaquiles and they where the best restaurant chilaquiles I have ever had. Now if you know you know why I had to specify restaurant chilaquiles. Thats because traditionally they are better at home. The kids ordered a flapjack, and not to anyone surprise did not finish because it was too big for them. Needless to say, I had to finish it like the dad I am. It was fluffy and the batter was a little sweet! So I may be tempted to order one for myself next time. We all enjoyed the food. Following a two hour drive from Sedona + checking into our Airbnb, my wife and I were in dire need of some food. Thankfully, my wife booked an Airbnb that was in walking distance to a plethora of restaurants & bars. A quick Yelp search, we found Gallo Blanco-a Mexican restaurant with pretty solid reviews. Upon walking in, I took in the romantic dimly-lit ambiance, along with the beautiful coffee bar. Shortly after, an employee at the front podium ushered us to the outdoor seating + ignited the standing patio heater for us (it was roughly 32 degrees that evening). Our server (unfortunately I did not obtain her name-shame on me!) quickly arrived to provide us with waters and take our orders. Since happy hour was minutes from ending, we ordered four margaritas (the server brought two out at a time-and brought out the other two after we finished the previous ones). Per our server's recommendation, I ordered the what would be super delicious New Mexican Enchiladas (this is a must-have if you're into spicy sauce like I am). Roughly 15 minutes later our food arrived. My wife and I were both thoroughly impressed with our food orders. However, we were not impressed with our margaritas. All four margaritas were delicious, but lacked very little hints of tequila. I understand that happy hour drinks sometimes (keyword) do not possess the same ingredients as the drinks on the traditional menu. However, after have two drinks each, we should have some kind of "buzz." Overall, we were satisfied with our food + experience at Gallo Blanco. A friend recommended Gallo Blanco when she learned we were visiting Phoenix and assured me it should be a priority. She ate here twice during a four-day conference several years ago and still regrets not coming back at least a third time. We came in around dinner time on a weeknight and were seated right away. I love the ambiance - colorful walls and art, lots of interesting things to look at. Upscale casual. I started with a margarita and knew right away we were in for a tasty evening. The drink was well made with fresh lime juice and good tequila. For dinner, I ordered a barbacoa taco and a carne asada burrito. After eating the taco, I regretted not eating only the barbacoa in everything all night. It was smoky and tender and had the right amount of sauce on it. The burrito was also good but it couldn't compare to the taco. We had a little time to squander at the end of dinner, so despite being stuffed, we ordered churros and coffee. The churros came with three dipping sauces -- chocolate, caramel and what appeared to be a sweetened condensed milk. The churros were crisp and fresh; we mostly ignored the dipping sauces. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly and warm with a good sense of humor. I don't know when we'll we back, but we've recommended this to our family who lives in Phoenix for their next date night. read more

1.6.24: I haven't been to Gallo in a few YEARS & was excited to be back. Their menu is so varied/rich & food has always been consistently delish. It was a Saturday night & they were busy. Our waitress was seriously lacking - we had questions and she flat out did not have answers! When I asked what the "fish of the day" was, she replied "Yes." Then I pressed on, "No, I mean what KIND of fish are you serving tonight? Like b/c every night there's a different one?" She just looked blank. I said, "Is it halibut?" I don't know why b/c that's what I was hoping?! She said "Yes." So I said "OK I'll have that. Does it come with vegetables or rice or ?" She said "Sure." My family members ordered their regular dishes - they've been there more recently & knew what they wanted: Huevos Rancheros and Cortado Dos Salad (both vegetarian). Two minutes later, our server came back: "We don't have halibut tonight. It's another one." Waited a beat. No more information. "What is it then?" I asked. "It's a white fish," she said. "Like tilapia or ?" I pressed on. "No I think it's called rockfish," she said. "OK great I guess I'll get that," I answered. The whole scene was actually comical, like we were being pranked or something. Here's the thing: waiting tables is hard af! I've done it. If I didn't know something, I just admitted it & then went & asked another server or my manager. I would even introduce myself to my tables: "Good evening. I'm totally new here & will do my best. What can I get you?" Prepare people for the fact that you are learning. As soon as people hear that, they tend to be super kind b/c everyone's been new at a job before. Finally, I was a horrible server! b/c it was too much to keep track of. I moved over to banquets where everyone eats the same thing for the most part, so no keeping track of a variety of food and beverage orders. I loved it b/c I didn't have to choreograph orders, it was labor intensive and I got to eat like a queen, Anyway! My fish came with a side of something that was swimming in a very dark sauce, like mole. The side turned out to be mostly yucca & potatoes, so starchy. I really wanted a healthy serving of green vegetables and ended up ordering another salad. Our server could have suggested that I order a side of steamed vegetables or a side salad, if she had been given training So yeah while the food was good, the service was seriously lacking. Please have your servers shadow someone else and ask questions of their peers when they don't know what's being served. There's no reason to put people out on the floor if they're not ready. It was Mother's Day. So we had an hour wait. However, they did take us in before the hour was up. They had several tables open, so it must be fewer wait staff. The food was delicious but expensive. I chose the chicken tamale with green chile. I wish I had selected the red sauce which is more traditional. My husband had a pork burrito. Unfortunately, it wasn't smothered in red chile sauce. My son chose chorizo with biscuits and gravy, but there wasn't a whole lot of chorizo. Everyone was having a good time, it is loud, but you're able to speak to others in your party. Outside seating is available, but it is hot in Phoenix this time of year. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. read more
