This is a casual Mexican Restaurant with traditional, authentic food, with a nice artsy ambiance. Located in the historic Garfield District. We both had a burrito and shared chips and guacamole. The food was very good. Service was pretty good too. Staff could have been more friendly, but they were pleasant. Overall, we had a good experience.

Stopped by during my visit to Phoenix and had a great experience. We went on a Thursday evening and were warmly greeted and seated right away. The ambiance has a darker, moodier vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Drinks were really good, I ordered the El Dorado with tequila, mango, guava, lime, chile and chamoy. I had the shrimp burrito. The grilled shrimp was flavorful. Our group also shared the guacamole and chips, which was the highlight for me. The guacamole was rich and creamy, and the chips were warm and hard to stop eating. Parking was easy with plenty of street parking.

This is one of our favorite spots and we decided to celebrate our daughter's birthday here. We always Waymo because 1) I like their margaritas and 2) parking is tight The service is friendly and attentive- and they made sure our daughter felt special :). We had chips and salsa; I had pozole and a taco (pork is my favorite), my daughter had a huge torta and the guys had burritos- oh and pancakes - because who doesn't order a pancake with their burrito when it's brunch time. lol! Everything was tasty!! Margs were perfect (albeit small) and tasty. They did bring her a lime tart for her birthday dessert so she was a happy girl. We like the vibe here too.

We came in for breakfast, it was not busy at all. We got sat right away. Our waitress was okay. The customer service was def lacking. After she took our order and delivered the food not once did we see her again or had any follow up if we needed anything. The customer service def took away from a good experience. The food was okay too. I ordered the chilaquiles which reminds me more of a tostada with cheese, meat and salsa than chilaquiles. The elite was good, the pancake was okay.

My wife and I were blown away by this hole-in-the-wall spot in Roosevelt District. It was our first time here, and our server, Mini (not sure if I spelled that right) did such a fantastic job at making us feel right at home. She answered all of our questions, gave us great recommendations, and was extremely polite. We ordered the frijoles con queso, which was so flavorful (and a perfect appetizer), the New Mexican enchiladas, and the Bistec Tampequena. Everything was cooked to perfections. It didn't try too hard to be different. Gallo Blanco took traditional dishes and simply elevated them to perfection. We cannot wait to return again.

My friends and I stopped by on a Thursday around 7pm. We were able to find parking right in front, checked in with the host, and were seated right away. We started with drinks and I ordered the Tamalindo, it was really good with the chamoy and Tajin rim! For food, we decided to share La Charola which came with fresh guacamole, pico de Gallo, two salsas, and chips. I ordered the al pastor burrito. It was good though I wish it had more meat. It's a good place to enjoy food and drinks with friends!

We picked this spot bc we have an Amex benefit. The hostess was super friendly and sat us right away. Our waitress was nice but forgot to refill our waters. The food came outright after the other which is great but we had a small table so it was tight. We got the monchito cocktail- my husband enjoyed the smokiness, I was hoping for more coconut flavor. The standout dish for me was the ceviche- the flavors were so good, although the amount of fish did seem little compared to the veggies and sauce. The guac was good and the accompanying salsas had a great spice. My shrimp and grits were ok- there was a smoky flavor that's not my favorite. They were able to put the chorizo on the side as I don't eat meat. My husband enjoyed his tampequena- he said it the steak was just right. It is served with tortillas so the dish is kind of like fajita style in that you build your own taco. The streets were busy with cars but we got lucky and found a spot easily!

This was great! I like that they have breakfast offerings all day. My brother and I came and got a selection of food. We started with elote and ceviche which were fine. We split the heuvos rancheros and got our own tacos (I had the Del mar and carne asade tacos). We also split the tres leches cake. My favorites were the Del Mar taco, the heuvos, and the cake. I thought the Del Mar taco had more flavor than the carne asade. I guess I could've added the salsa I was drenching the chips with to the carne asada, but I just ate it straight with the lime. The ceviche was good, and the elote was ok. I'd definitely come back. Service was very friendly. We arrived early enough we didn't NEED a reservation, but I'd recommend it. It got busy by the time we left.

My sister introduced me to this place & I'm so glad she did. The food was delicious! & as a vegetarian I'm usually limited in options but they had a decent selection for breakfast & lunch--much appreciated! Their aguas taste fresh & rich, I don't even like agua de jamaica but let me tell you! I drank half my Mamas cup lol the horchata is rich in flavor & pretty sweet so keep that in mind. The restaurant itself is larger than it appears, lots of fun art & colors, full bar, limited parking FYI (street parking mostly.) Our server was kind enough to let us try/sample the aguas before committing to an entire glass. So thank you for that. Prices were decent for the quality of food. I ordered the vegetable burrito ($14-$18/plate) with beans & cheese. I was at first nervous the veggies were going to make the burrito soggy but nope. It was perfection. Compliments to the chef! & the salsas were bangin' too! My sister ordered a steak salad which she inhaled & the amount of meat served on her salad was worth every dollar, they did not hold back. Overall, I will definitely be back to try the chilequiles which I heard are also bomb. My only notes: -A little more cheese on my burrito but that's just me 'cause I love cheese. -& Perhaps a soyrizo option for the non-meat eaters. I promise, try it, you'd be surprised how tasty a soyrizo & egg come out, it's a close second!

4.5/5! I'm a big fan of Gallo Blanco! I think it's a cute spot, the drinks are great, there's a wide variety and the tacos consistently hit the spot for me. I went the other day and ordered the mango margarita, elote to share and three tacos - shrimp, pork belly and carne asada. The mango margarita was delicious; the mango puree was strong without tasting artificially sweet. Each taco has a unique and flavorful profile and they don't skimp on the protein. I particularly love the sweet / salty of the pork belly and the sauce on the shrimp. Three tacos is a filling meal! I also liked that the elote had good flavor and topping without being caked in mayo or cotija. My only complaint with our most recent visit was that the service was pretty slow. We were seated at the bar and had to wave someone down both to order drinks and later to order food.

Stopped by over the weekend and loved eating at their patio. It was late in the afternoon so we got seated right away. Their patio is dog friendly which is always a plus. I was craving pozole and there's not many places where you can get this. The bowl was huge and tasty, I wished it had more pork. We also got the guacamole and the small one was a great portion. The chips were good. Service was friendly and we got the food super fast. I am definitely going to come back again for brunch.

    Kelli K.

A strange mix of American and Mexican food. The Mexican food is undersalted and unnecessarily creamy and cheesy. The pozole was bland. The cheese grits with shrimp was bland and soupy. The cocktails were great. Seems like Mexican food for an American palate.

Stopped here for dinner with a group of six, before heading to Phoenix theater for a show. Pleasantly surprised that happy hour is every day from 3:00 to 6:00, and there house Margarita or skinny margarita is on the happy hour special for just $7! Wine and beer was $5 on happy hour. Reasonably extensive menu. I had the shrimp and grits, and it was excellent with plenty of shrimp and the the Shreiners chorizo was an added bonus. The La Bomba burrito was an upgrade to the standard Al Pastor and was a great twist on a classic. Two in our party ordered the salmon and we're very happy with it. We did start with the spicy ceviche and they were not kidding as it did have a kick and was excellent. A must stop if you're in the area!

It's on the corner of a strip mall, there was some etched graffiti on the outside windows, which made you aware of the area you were in. (That's the reason for the 1 star deduction.) The place is very small! So yes, you WILL want to make a reservation. We went around 3:30 on a Friday and I would say 3/4 of the tables had reserved signs on them starting at 5pm on up. The receptionist was constantly back and forth looking at them and moving them around to make space for walk-ins. I would skip bringing your kids here. I didn't use the restroom so idk if that was nice or not. The food was fantastic! And the portions were big. The price matched the portions and quality in our opinion. It's hard to find quality food that's worth the cost lately. We enjoyed the chips and salsa. And hubby ordered a Mexican coke, and the server brought him a frosty glass for it. Everyone around us looked like they were enjoying their food. Our server was great. He chatted with us for a while when we told him about seeing the place on IG. He was grateful for the customers. But admitted, it's caused an influx of people and the 'regulars' have become annoyed. Which is understandable. We'd definitely come back if we're in the area but probably not drive that far out of our way again.

I felt like I didn't eat enough to replenish all of the corpuscles I shed, so a hearty late breakfast was in order. I was pleasantly thrilled with my choice of Presidio Cocina Mexicana, as the late breakfast I ordered did not disappoint! I ordered the Chilaquiles, which are essentially breakfast nachos, and you have a choice of protein to add. I chose the birria beef which was perfectly slow-cooked and complemented the corn tortilla chips, cheese, and eggs superbly. I opted for both the red chile and green chile sauce which coated the chips along with a generous layer of tangy cotija cheese. I asked for the eggs scrambled and they cooked them just how I like them... fairly dry and in a thin griddled layer. Add to this mound of well-seasoned goodness a decent dolloping of Tapatio hot sauce (and salt and pepper on the eggs) and I had endless perfect bites of spicy, meaty brekkie goodness that brought delighted yummy sounds from my grateful gullet! This was quality food and the couple at the bar next to me raved about the Menudo, so it has all the hallmarks of authentic Mexican fare. It restored me from borderline anemic to my usual strutting rugged caballero self. "¡Arriba, arriba! ¡Ándale, ándale!"

We were also given free chips & house made bean dip. Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.

Along with amazing chips and salsa we are very excited to come back and get some food as this is a stellar top notch seafood place with amazing drinks people and an all around experience

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.
