The coconut + honey combination worked since the flavors were subtle and not too sweet which I liked . On the other hand , I took a bite of the egg waffle and it was too crunchy for my liking . I was thinking it would've been a softer chewy consistency. I ended up just eating the ice cream and not caring too much for the egg waffle. I also tried pistachio flavor and it was way too sweet. Wow... you Cal kids are so spoiled these days. My dessert tummy would've been so much happier if this place existed when I was still a student. I'd say I have a pretty high bar for egg puffs (egg waffles). Every time I go back to HK, my first course of business is going to get egg puffs and egg tarts. With that said, I've tried some of the best egg puffs that HK has to offer. I ordered the Ice Cream Combo, and decided to go with the Matcha Egg Puffs + Taro Ice Cream + Rose Petals: Matcha Egg Puffs - I would've liked a stronger matcha taste, but the egg puffs themselves were delicious; fragrant (think Eggos x10), warm, and the perfect balance between crispy & soft. Taro Ice Cream - It was a reeeeally big fat scoop! There wasn't anything special about it, but ice cream in general goes really well with egg puffs. Rose Petals Topping - Depends if you like rose/flower-flavored desserts in the first place. I'm not too big of a fan of anything that tastes like flowers, but it was definitely aesthetically pleasing. I'd probably go with one of the Cookie Crumbs next time. Friendly service + egg waffle combos + pet therapy?! After my friend and I placed our orders, the cashier's Maltese/Pom mix came out to play and graced us with her presence. It was definitely a pleasant surprise. While my friend waited for her waffle combo (matcha waffle + Polly Ann's taro ice cream + honey drizzle), I savored my lychee ice cream. It was pretty empty so it felt like we were getting a private experience but considering it was a Sunday night, this wasn't unusual. Aside from the service, the handcrafted egg waffles were pretty good. I can tell they were freshly made. Although the egg waffle my friend ordered didn't have a strong matcha taste, the combination of hot and cold textures definitely elevated my waffle experience. The employee said the rose flavor comes from the milk that is infused with rose petals. Cute little shop in the hip, lively part of Berkeley just a short walk from campus. We came in on a cold day so it was a little counterintuitive to get ice cream! However, the waffle smell was intoxicating. They also offer a wide selection of coffee/tea beverages if you need something to warm you up. The girl working the counter was very friendly and helpful, she let us sample any of the flavors we wanted to and gave us recommendations. There is plenty to choose from matcha, pumpkin, earl grey, (to name some of my faves they had to offer). She told us her favorite was the blueberry, and after a sample there was no turning back! Easily the most delicious blueberry flavored ice cream I have had - great smooth, creaminess, blueberry flavor without being ultra saccharine. They have quite a few options for toppings including the IG fave - rose petals, having never tried this the young lady let us have a sample to taste. They are dried petals, so they have a unique, paper-y crispness to them that's fairly pleasant, the rose flavor is notable, I think it is best to eat these with the actual ice cream/waffle; on their own they are a bit strong. My boyfriend and I shared the combo with a matcha egg waffle and blueberry ice cream with a chocolate drizzle. A little pricey at ~$7, but boy was this an immense amount of food! We split this between two people and it was more than enough! I think we could have gotten one half the size and still been satisfied. I hope they might consider offering a smaller size ice cream/waffle combo in the future. The matcha egg waffle was perfectly warm, crisp yet doughy, and ultra matcha and it paired very well with the sweetness of the blueberry ice cream. There's something off about this place... We visited on a Saturday afternoon (2/24/24) and it was completely empty, including nobody behind the counter. Since there was a digital ordering kiosk, though, we decided to start making an order thinking that someone in the back was probably just waiting for an order to come in through the system. We discussed what we wanted for 5 minutes and before submitting our order, somebody finally came out the back and sleepily informed us that the kiosk actually doesn't work so we should just order at the counter with him. It was a bit strange, but we went through with the order anyway, choosing an egg waffle cone with ube ice cream. Initially, we wanted a matcha waffle cone and oreo crumbles as an add-on, but both options were out of stock... Furthermore, the guy mentioned that it would be roughly 10 minutes or so since he had to turn on the waffle iron. Again, we thought this was strange since it was a sunny Saturday afternoon; had no one else come in?? We waited for 15 minutes before our order was finally ready, which looked fine, but tasted very mediocre. We were surprised that the ube ice cream actually had no flavor at all, almost like it was old and had been sitting in the freezer for a long time with no recent refresh. We finished what we got, but it gave us very little satisfaction. To top it all off, after we picked up our order, the guy closed the store door (it was open when we arrived) and then went to the back again. It kinda felt like he didn't want the store to be open at all. We're not sure why there are decent reviews for this place on Yelp, but they were probably from a previous period of time. Gadani is one of those places that makes us pay ~$8 for store bought ice cream neatly placed in mediocre execution of a Hong Kong style egg waffle and made to look pretty. First, I will give them props for coming up with a creative concept that lands itself nicely to being photographed and their marketing to bring people in and get away with charging us ridiculous sums. The place is nice and clean and has the perfect wall with their name (an Instagram wall as I like to call it). I hope the quality improves over time and it becomes more justifiable beyond the one time picture. You'd think that for $8 they'll have their own special in-house ice cream, right? Wrong. Fine, maybe they figured that there is no point of trying to reinvent the wheel when they can get high quality, organic ice cream from Tara, right? Sort of. In reality only 2-3 of the flavors are actually sourced from Tara while the rest are Dreyer which you can pick up from anywhere. OK then maybe it's the egg waffle that makes it great? Not really. While I applaud them for bringing Hong Kong style egg waffles to Berkeley and even making various flavors, the execution is mediocre at best and definitely does not justify the high price tag: the texture is a bit off to me and a bit too smooth, thicker and the chewiness is just wrong. Not to mention that the ratios are off and you'll end up with too much waffle if you don't share it and you'll get sick of it. Gadani is an example of how much people are willing to overpay for the Insta pic. TL;DR overpriced mock Asian egg puffs, but cute store! I shared a waffle ice cream combo with and friend. If you're getting the waffle ice cream combo, I'd definitely recommend sharing because it'll end up being too much or you'd get sick of it. First, the heavy marketing on serving Tara's ice cream seems a bit deceiving because only two flavors of about eight to ten flavors are actually Tara's. The rest are Dreyer's ice cream, which I can just get at Safeway. I didn't notice this until my friend pointed out that the labels were Dreyer's, so that was pretty disappointing. Next, the waffle itself was not that good. I stuck with original to play it safe, but it didn't even meet my lowest expectations. The texture was weird, very smooth, which isn't the norm. The bite and chewiness also did not meet expectations. The butter cookie topping, however, was crunchy and delicious. Everything combined into the cup was also difficult to eat because the spoon can't break the waffle and scoop ice cream, so I ended up having to awkwardly ripping it off and trying to get some ice cream on because the waffle was pretty bland. Even though the food itself isn't that great, you can get an instagram worthy picture. They have a cute wall with flower decor, the perfect background, only if someone is not eating there already. I ordered the red bean matcha bubble waffle with matcha ice cream, condensed milk, and red bean topping. It cost around $8 but it was worth it because the waffle was cooked fresh when I ordered it and the ice cream is smooth and delicious. They don't have a restroom or sink to wash your hands if ice cream drips out of the paper "cone" holding the waffle so I used napkins and the free water they offer. It's great for a post-dinner treat in Berkeley, but make sure you don't come here absolutely stuffed from dinner like I did in order to fully maximize your experience :D Came on a Saturday night around 8 pm and it was (surprisingly) almost empty. I had a very filling Indian meal right before coming, so I ended up sharing a combo waffle + ice cream + topping ($7.85) with a friend and only got a few bites of each, but everything was delicious! Went with the matcha waffle and vanilla ice cream with a wafer topping (a very classic combo). While nothing absolutely blew me away with its taste, everything was delicious and paired well together, not to mention the presentation was on point. There is some very limited seating both inside and outside, but overall it seems like it's more of a grab and eat quickly (or grab and go) spot. Parking can be difficult in this area as it is close to the campus and is all street parking. Waffle I got was Matcha, all ice cream is from Tara Ice Cream in Berkeley. I picked Geranium which tasted ok to me, and rose petal for topping - that is strange to eat rose petals but that's just me. I did it for the Instagram. Matcha is made-to-order in the back so it's warm when you get it, and the ice cream melts fast. Since there's nowhere to sit inside I had to eat it standing up and the ice cream was melting all over the place! Matcha waffle was just so-so, no matcha flavor I could taste. Credit cards accepted. If you're from socal and have tried cauldron, this is very similar! The service was really good and the worker recommended me the double chocolate egg puff with my choice of lavender ice cream (from Tara's organic vegan ice cream shop on college!) and cookie crumbs as toppings! It was just the right amount of sweet and the store was nothing but aesthetically pleasing. Highly recommend on a night you need a break and need a little bit of sweets as motivation to study. read more

This Gadani shop venue has a same vibe as Sweet Belly, so it felt vintage, girly, and cute for pictures. The style of egg puff and ice-cream is similar to Milkcow, but not in a cup. Also, on Instagram they were offering 20% off, but it was only for the grand opening day which was yesterday. I found out about this location through Instagram, and I love egg puffs, so I decided to give this a try. In Berkeley, prepare yourself to find parking and paying for parking; it's a pretty busy streets since it is near UC Berkeley. The egg puffs were not as good as I expected; the texture of it is more on the chewy side where it felt like it wasn't cooked all the way. I was able to see the batter a little, so the taste was kind of unpleasant. On the other hand, the Jasmine Milk Tea was good, but it melted really fast. I wouldn't come back here again, unless another friend wants to come for the picture and experience. read more

The aesthetics of this place and the waffle cones are definitely one of the pluses. Staff was very friendly and patient! I am pretty indecisive, especially when it comes to different ice cream flavors. They helped me taste a couple flavors, and I ended up picking the geranium flavor, which was very good! I paired this ice cream with a regular egg puff and topped it with pecans. I also agree with most of the other reviews: while the egg waffle was good, I do wish it was a little bit crispier on the outside. Gadani is an Instagrammers dessert dream! Their egg puff waffles are not only beautifully presented, but you have your choice of not one, but TWO, backdrops to snap your photo in front of. Egg puff waffles with ice cream are not particularly hard to find anymore, but I still find it to be an exciting combination. I ordered a matcha egg puff waffle with taro ice cream, topped with rose petals. I will shamelessly admit I got the rose petals for the 'gram and would recommend them in a heartbeat for your photo, but not necessarily for your taste buds. The egg puff waffle was delightfully crispy on the outside, but still soft and spongy in all the little pockets. I was pleased that the matcha flavor still came through! My taro ice cream was a bit icy and my taro chunks were rock hard frozen though. I think they could probably raise their freezer temperature just a bit to encourage the texture of their ice cream to be more creamy. Great addition to the downtown Berkeley food scene. Came here for tea with a friend after noticing it as a relatively new entry on Yelp. Cute little cafe, the menu is mostly dessert focussed and the tea we had was indeed fairly sweet. We each ordered one of the season drinks, which was a floral (lavender) flavoured tea, which was a nice shade of purple. No boba, and only two ordinary types of milk tea on the menu (black or green) - although this is probably sufficient. The tea itself was good and you get a generous 20oz serving (similar to 85 degrees C down the street) for the price. I get the feeling that tea isn't their forte though, and will try to come back for the dessert (egg waffles) sometime! read more
