I have the biggest sweet tooth, so it should come as no surprise that I love love LOVE Endless Summer Sweets! This spot will have you feeling like a little kid at the local county fair. Location is on Shattuck near the Downtown Berkeley BART station as well as several AC Transit bus stops. There are also a handful metered parking spots out front. Inside is on the smaller side with a couple of seats available but very cutesy and inviting nonetheless. My go-to favorites from their menu are the strawberry funnel cake and cheesecake caramel apples. The mini size of the strawberry funnel cake ($8.50) is the perfect serving size for one. The funnel cake itself is crispy and fried to perfection, and the strawberries add a lovely freshness. The homemade whipped cream they pile on top is miles above canned whipped cream. Personally, I like to also add fruity pebbles as an extra topping for a nice crunch! The cheesecake caramel apples ($10.50) are dipped in a layer of caramel, then another layer of cheesecake flavored coating, and finished off with a graham cracker-like crumb coating. They are tart yet decadent, making them absolutely addictive. I appreciate too how they include an option for having the apple be cut up into slices when ordering. All the way from Vacaville, CA? Can I do it? Hell yea .. I did. And oh boy was I a happy camper. Made the trek to the East Bay around 6 PM on a Friday afternoon. Now y'all Bay Area peeps already know, trying to go down 80W on a Friday during commute hours is insane, but hey .. when someone whispers FUNNEL CAKE in your ear hole .. you get the moving. I AM SO HAPPY WE WENT. Yes, I capped you. I mean .. I wish I could've gotten one from every item on the menu, but I couldn't, not on the first go .. or can I? I didn't, lol .. what I did get was a regular funnel cake (2 please) and a strawberry cheesecake caramel apple. Holy moly ... best decision I made in my life .. well at that time. FUNNEL CAKE It was warm, crispy on the outside, chew in the inside and showered in that white dust of sugar. #nomnomnom The portion was average size and it was amazing until the last bite. STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE CARAMEL APPLE Crispy, delicious green apple used. Perfect blend of crushed strawberry, graham cracker and white chocolate. It came already cut and ready to be eaten. Man, what a find! Tucked into a little urban storefront on Shattuck in downtown Berkeley, this place is all satisfaction. It's all the carnival food that is fond memories and nostalgia, but done really well. The veggie corndog first. It's hard to find a good veggie corndog, even among places that are really proud of their corndog game. You know the type. The establishments that are wearing a fedora with a stubbly goatee, but they look surprisingly fit for an older gent. You know that gleam in their eye tough. "You should check out our corndogs." Well, this one started off of the right foot, using Fieldroast brand for the inner veggie sausage. Delicious, high quality, and not cheap! The corn batter was actually perfect though. There are so many ways it can go wrong. Too thick or thin, too oily, undercooked because the fry wasn't hot enough, burnt, foul oil, etc. This place was legit, though, and their batter was sweet, chewy, and perfect. I sprung for the combo meal with some garlic cheese fries, and that was a huge portion of fries. The garlic was really perfectly piquant, but I didn't actually need the cheese. Had to leave some cheesy soldiers behind, and I'm sure that will haunt me long unto my grave, or at least until I'm hungry again, in a few days... The ambiance was trying a bit to hard for carnival joy, while the small interior actually may've been better appointed like a small cafe. I don't need the touchscreen menu ordering... the veggie corndog wasn't actually on the touchscreen anyway. The funhouse mirror was cool, and watching the delighted kids tripping out was great. -1 star for the oscillating neon sign. The flashing light was bright enough to subtly change the color of the page of the book I was reading, and that was going to give me a migraine if I stayed. Workers were super nice! Called Endless Summer Sweets for a reason! Everything was so sweet and very pricey-- but the staff were very nice and the seating area was pretty chill for a conversation and eating. We got a deep fried Oreo (2), sundae (9), 3 churros (7). My friend loved the deep fried Oreo and said it was pretty doughy and good! There's also a deep fried Oreo sundae with 4 deep fried Oreos for cheaper so if you're super into them, check that out. I liked the strawberry ice cream as the ice cream bits slapped, but the cream and the drizzle was too much for me. We also removed the peanuts since my friend had a peanut allergy. As soon as you walk-in, you can smell fried things and sugar. There's a small seating area inside, but it gets hot. I ordered the churro sundae with strawberry topping. The churro was warm and cinnamon sugar was generous, but it was too thick for my liking. The strawberry topping was on the top and bottom which was nice. The soft serve was average. The BF got the oreo topping with his and it literally was halved oreo cookies placed around the soft serve swirl lol. We all thought the oreo topping would be like other places, the oreo crumbles. My friend got a mini funnel cake with strawberries and whipped cream which smells delicious and tasted just the ones you get at the fair. Definitely a must order if we come here again. I relayed this to the supervisor Carlos, unfortunately, Carlos is no help at all and quite horrible at his customer service! He really doesn't need a job in customer service or management! But their soft serve machine was not working, so it was 2 hands scoops of vanilla ice cream with double serving of Oreos. She got a corndog as well. I got an all beef grilled hot dog with caramelized onion, roasted bell pepper, shredded jack cheese and bacon. The churro was nice with the contrast of Oreos and vanilla ice cream. No healthy food here, it's all Carnaval food like funnel cakes, corn dogs, and fried Oreos. And that's ok, sometimes you want sweets. Sometimes you want to have fun. Man working at register was very professional, informative and friendly. You can tell he cares about his job and his customers and wants to make sure everyone gets what they want. People order big here. Very common for customers to get big bags of food with multiple items. Store located on Shattuck avenue and I found parking nearby. On to the juicy details. I got the churro in a cup of soft serve with strawberries. The churro was fried up fresh. It was great. I'm going to have to go ahead and give them five stars and I look forward to my next visit. I love caramel apples - the combination of tart, sweet and salty is so good. I can usually only find caramel apples at tourist locations, particularly amusement parks and seaside towns, so this makes caramel apples and Endless Summer Sweets a particular treat. They have other types of treats, including apples covered with different types of treats including oreos and sweet cereals. I still like the classic caramel apples the best.
