I love everything about this place! It was so cute! All the items sold here is local/ small produced or really high quality items. They had everything from cookbooks, chocolates, pasta, condiments and alcohol. If you love to cook with high quality ingredients or love a healthy snack or just appreciate little details, you're gonna love this place.

    The Slanted Door mushroom baos
    Toni M.

After lunch at Troy today Mary and I walked into Of All Places, where we were warmly greeted by Celia and Joe. We wandered through the store looking at the various products on the shelves. When I got to the cold case I grabbed a package of the Slanted Door mushroom baos and look forward to having a couple of them for lunch tomorrow. As we were checking out Celia and I got into a conversation about the hours we sleep, having dogs, dog doors and raccoons coming into houses through them. I stay up late and sleep late. When I had dogs, Emily got along w/ the raccoons, allowing them in the house while we were at work, while Genie wouldn't. I have a Dutch door w/ the top open downstairs which keeps the raccoons out of the house. When I had dogs I couldn't close it because they would be unable to access the dog door, but now that I am w/o a dog I keep the Dutch door closed so if they do come in the dog door they can't get beyond the space where the furnace, water heater and washer/dryer are. Celia and Joe can't have a dog door because of the raccoons and their dog wakes her to go out. Mary bought some French made whipped cream which she plans to use on top of hot chocolate and her morning mocha. She seemed to be as enthralled w/ Of All Places as I am. Addendum 1/1/25 I had two of the mushroom baos for lunch today and was disappointed. They were good, but not great. They tasted good, but I would prefer more filling and less bread so I won't buy them again. It was worth a try.

    Fun haul (different each time)

Ah, I don't come here nearly enough...Such a creative, fun, unusual selection, from beverages (alcoholic and non-) to edibles; most I rarely if ever see elsewhere, including the yummy (ethically sourced) Fishwife* line of tinned fish, raw Berkeley honey, a strawberry/yuzu (!) spritz/aperitivo, gourmet chips and chocolates, and so much more. All in one sweet place. The owners are lovely and welcoming as is their friend who was there today. Each time I've left with treasures (see photo); I'll be back soon, this time! (Love their music too, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxWxXncl53U) * Also love that women-owned businesses are highlighted, e.g. Fishwife and Maeve / Seattle Chocolate

Located inside Young's Market. There was no wait when I went…read more I ordered 3 sandwiches: Reuben Pastrami, Smoked Turkey, and Smoked Salmon. My total was $52. I only ate the Smoked Salmon, so I can only review that one. I enjoyed it! There was a lot of smoked salmon (dare I say too much?) and it tasted of... smoked salmon. The sandwich was filling because of how much salmon there was. The bread was kind of thin and falling apart so it was a little messy to eat. The sandwich would have been better with hardier slices of bread and more evenly spread salmon. I heard good reviews about the other sandwiches. I purchased drinks from Young's while my sandwiches were being made. Parking was surprisingly easy (Sunday at 11am).

That is, until recently, when I noticed there was a pile of rotisserie chickens on the counter. I believe it was Larry, the personable butcher, who helped me pick out the most succulent one. He runs the counter completely separate from the rest of the market. That has become more noticeable recently as Young's appears to be going through an ownership change. His meat selection is consistently top quality, and the robust salad and sandwich menu is enticing. But for now, just give me the cluck, a whole one for $10.50 and enough to last for three days (photo: https://bit.ly/3mTCTM2), along with the Red Bliss Potato Salad at $4.50 per pound (photo: https://bit.ly/3mSOI56). The reason I come to this one more often is because it's closer to me in the East Bay. They don't have a lot of organic produce and the prices for all the produce is a bit high for what it is. There's a lot of different pastry booths and there's a Semi Freddy's Cafe close by. The Frog Hollow farm has great fruit and pretty good simple pastries. They also offer their fruit preserves on a discount that is much cheaper than in stores or online. Their apricot preserves is one of their best ones and has the least amount of sugar. I come here quite often to get lunch on the weekends. There's also a really nice rotisserie chicken truck that makes amazing rotisserie chicken for about $17 and they also have rotisserie duck and rotisserie pork. They have a lot of roasted vegetables that can come with their rotisserie meat but unfortunately, all their potatoes and vegetables are covered with animal grease so it is not for people watching their cholesterol. It's easy to pick up a whole rotisserie chicken for a lovely Sunday meal and have leftovers for work for a few days. It's better than any rotisserie chicken from the supermarket but will cost about twice as much. However, you get to see them roast your chicken so you know it's very fresh and the skin is crisp.

Most recently I finally was able to give them a try. So glad we did! We came around lunch time and sat at a booth. There were other worker bees grabbing a quick lunch. The service was quick, efficient and friendly, and we ordered the French onion soup to start, and split the fried chicken sandwich and Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity, and street parking available (although the restaurant is located at the bottom of Solano where it tends to be a bit more busy). Women-owned biz, and they also were on Check Please! Bay Area.
