I ordered cookies for delivery today because i wasn't feeling like dirtying up all the dishes I just washed. I am a baker, but sometimes I just want someone else to do the work lol. I've been wanting to try Insomnia cookies for a while. Probably for close to 2 years. Never did because im the hugest fan of thin cookies. They're ok, but I prefer thick ones. Things that I liked about insomnia cookies: - It was fairly easy to order. - the cookies were warm upon arrival. - I appreciate that they are open until 3 am. - unfortunately, thats about it. Lol I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1, simply because of those reasons. Things I didn't like: - overly sweet, they would have better results lessening the sugar in the recipes. - some cookies were overly sweet and overly salty, like they were trying to cover the sweetness. It didnt work - chocolate doesn't taste like real chocolate. Tastes kind of cheap. And they used sweet chocolates in an already sweet cookie. - snickerdoodle is one of my top favorite 3 cookies. This was by far the worst snickerdoodle I have ever had. - Im not a fan of flat cookies, but I'll still eat them .. lol.. however, I am not a fan of oily or greasy cookies. My fingers were coated in greasiness... and my lips were too. And it left like.. a layer in my mouth that wasn't fun. - weird after tastes. I usually get that when imitation vanilla is used. And I definitely got that here. -size... I was expecting the cookies to be bigger.. not thicker, I already knew they were going to be thin, but like... width wise... I thought they'd be bigger. With all of this being said.... I do not see myself ordering or physically going to insomnia cookies ever again, unfortunately... which is sad, because I was looking forward to having a 3 am cookie sometimes lol Guess ill just stick to baking my own. We were in the area for an event and saw that Insomnia was just a 5-minute walk away. I couldn't resist as this is my favorite cookie chain. We especially love the oatmeal cookies! My partner got the oatmeal raisin classic cookie, while I opted for the oatmeal chocolate walnut deluxe cookie. It was the perfect treat, raisin-free and oozing with ooey gooey melted chocolate in every bite. I got a zero sugar cola from the drink display case too. Service was fast and sufficient with no waiting needed. Also, the place was clean and bright and had about 10 counter stools in which we were able to enjoy our delicious snacks on site. A restroom was available as well which was accessible using a code, unlike the downtown San Jose location in the city I live where the restroom is always "out of order" (at least for the last 3 years, lol). read more

Are Insomnia Cookies baked goods good? Yes, they are - both their cookies and their brownies. Are they worth the cost and effort? That's debatable. I've had some experiences that were quick and painless, and more than a few that were disappointing. A couple months ago, one employee was working alone on the day they had a promotion for National Cookie Day, which meant a long line out the door. She was trying to do her job but was clearly overwhelmed. She said her supervisor was not supposed to come in until 1 p.m. but was about to arrive at 11:30 a.m. to help. No one is forcing Insomnia Cookies to do this or any promotion, but if they're going to do it, it would be nice if they actually prepared for it. On several occasions, I have tried to use a reward I have in the app, only to get an error message. A few times it was because I wanted a special/seasonal cookie that was listed as a "Classic Cookie," but it somehow didn't qualify. I have often asked for assistance from the person working the counter, and they have politely told me that they're sorry but they do not have the ability to override the system. I have even offered to pay the difference between the regular classic cookie and the special/seasonal classic cookie, but my offer has never been accepted. If you don't want to count a special/seasonal cookie as a classic cookie, don't include it in the "Classic Cookies" category. read more

I ordered the 6-pack of cookies for $17 at the Berkeley location and honestly left pretty disappointed. I went in the store around 2:45pm which is still early in the day, and they were out of most of their cookie options. I was really confused how a place that's open until 1 AM could already be sold out of almost everything by mid-afternoon. the whole appeal of Insomnia Cookies is the variety, especially when you're paying that much, so not having many choices really took away from the experience. The cookies I did get were okay, but the frustration of limited options made it not feel worth the price. After waiting over an hour with the status stuck on "waiting for driver" (store is only about 12 minutes away), the delivery arrived incorrect. Beat tasting cookies in the Bay Area. Period. Great nostalgic, classic flavors. You MUST try the Salted Caramel cookie. Forgot to take a pic, but the cookies were just thrown in the box, definitely not nicely placed like in photos. Ordered the 12 pack, which is almost $4/cookie. Last year, placed a number of orders for the 12 pack. Then, without fail, the cookies were a decent size and, of course, tasted great. Both size and taste were consistent last year. This year, however, unless you pay a surcharge for one of their specialty cookies, the regular ones are now nearly 1/2 the size they used to be for the same price. They are shockingly small. With few dessert places near Berkeley's campus, I was excited to get place with cookies AND open late! I've tried Insomnia Cookies before, but didn't really know much about them. The staff is really nice and friendly. I got their CookieMagic subscription ($10/month) which gets you a free classic cookie everyday and a deluxe cookie for $1 (1 a day for both). Considering their cookies are $3-5 each normally, I felt this was a worthwhile investment. I'm probably not going to eat 30 cookies in one month, but it does make for a nice gift to share with friends and co-workers. They have a small retail space under a luxury housing complex and right across from UC Berkeley's campus. Casual vibe and lots of flavors to try. For you college grads of the past 5-10 years in Berkeley or Palo Alto, you remember the long lines for the Cream outlets. Their novel idea was for you to pick an Ice Cream flavor, (like BR 32 flavors for you OGs), then pick a cookie flavor ( like Mrs. Fields, which was started in Palo Alto, for you OGs, or Famous Amos from Hawaii), and they would make it into a sort of It's It ( which is based near SFO on the SF peninsula, also for you OGs). Insomnia puts a twist on that (I think, I am still confused, must be because I am an OG?!). And that is, you pick the Cookie first, then the Ice Cream, and they put it together into, well, er, a new Cream like It's It? Confused, and an Ice Cream purist. I just ordered a cup of 2 flavors, so did my teen companion, or maybe she was just following me to respect her OGs? I did get an Ube flavor, which is definitely a newer, on the rise flava flave (for you semi-OG MTV "D" celebrity trash show watchers) popular Asian based flavor. ( There are many Ube-Fests around California, btw). Service was good and friendly from our server, who took the time to try to explain Insomnia vs Cream to me, but I didn't get it because maybe I am an OG? BTW, the term OG actually works in Japan, too, because Ojiisan (pronounced like OG) in Japanese either means grandfather, or Old Guy. Check out Insomnia Cookies, you can't go wrong with Cookies and Ice Cream, and theirs was pretty good. The sugar rush will keep you up for a while (Insomnia?). But most everyone likes both Ice Cream and Cookies, unless you're trying to lose weight, or you're an OG trying to better manage your A1C. Maybe time to consider OGzembic? read more

The best cookies I've had in the Bay! My favorite cookie place has always been Antoine's in San Mateo, but Insomnia Cookies is much closer and just as delicious. The ordering process was simple and seamless. I ordered a cookie cake for my daughter's birthday, and they had it ready on time. Parking was a little tricky, but that's typical for this part of Berkeley. These cookies are better than Crumbl in my opinion, as they have a crispier exterior and are not super thick and dense. I have gotten the chocolate peanut butter cup and s'mores cookies, which were both a bit too sweet. I also would have preferred more of a chocolate taste for the peanut butter cup cookie, as it basically just tasted completely like peanut butter. Yessss I'm so glad we finally have an Insomnia Cookies in the area. It was basically the only thing missing in the dessert space. Insomnia makes soft (but not too cake-like) cookies with a great crispy outside. They're not insanely huge like crumbl so a cookie is actually a serving (although they do now have a larger size option if that's your jam).
