Ube gelato
Aidan G.

If you're craving something crazy and crazy sweet this is a great spot to go. I was feeling crazy myself and got the ube gelato with mini m&ms and fruity pebbles. It's exactly what you expect from a place like, and it's really cool that they have some more unique flavors.

You must try the chocolate hazelnut gelato here!…read more The last time I had chocolate hazelnut gelato was in Rome on a hot day. I tried many gelato places since, but never found anything as creamy and delicious. That's until I found this place. The chocolate hazelnut gelato is absolutely fantastic. The flavor profile is perfect. It's not too sweet. Love it.

My good friend not only picked us up, but she and her husband got dinner too, so of course I had to get dessert! We were short on time, so I used DoorDash to place a pickup order and it was literally ready in like less than two minutes. I can't speak on the ambiance of the place as my partner was the one who ran out to go get our order. Mango Sorbet - one taste of this and I swear it was reminiscent of biting into an Alphonso mango (which I know is no longer in season). This is a total winner and for this flavor alone, I would absolutely come back. Pistachio Gelato - this was pretty creamy and the crushed pistachio pieces actually tasted like it had been fresh and roasted. I'm glad it retained it's flavor and texture despite being swirled into a gelato. My partner commented that it was good seeing a pistachio frozen dessert in its natural color and not with the artificial green food coloring. This turned out to be a perfect purchase because my friend who lives in Berkeley surprisingly had not tried this place yet! I knocked off a star because the pints did not have the flavors labeled which I thought was rather strange. We were all impressed by both gelato flavors, but the mango sorbet was very clearly the fan favorite. It's nice to know this shop is opened daily (Monday to Thursday from 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM and Friday to Sunday from 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM) especially with school back in session.

Most recent visit I got the mint chip and coffee flavors. I appreciate that both flavors pack a punch, and taste authentic as compared to artificially flavored store bought ice cream. They serve a honey lavender flavor almost year round that is incredible. My personal favorite is the marzipan flavor served during the holidays. They don't skimp on the quality and intensity of flavor. This last visit I also asked if they would give me a single bite of vanilla ice cream on a disposable spoon for my dog, and they kindly obliged. Wonderful local spot that always brings smiles :)

The young worker was so patient & helpful with recommendations that it made the whole experience that more enjoyable. Out of the 2 samples I tried, I ended with the Meyer Lemon. Samples: Cherry Cheesecake which I thought had an icy instead of a creamy texture so I didn't choose this one. Honey Rose & I mostly tasted the honey & no essence of rose, so I decided to pass. Without sampling the Meyer Lemon bc the worker recommended this, I just chose it. The Meyer Lemon was refreshing & had a creamy texture. It was perfect with the fresh waffle cone. I'm ready to try more flavors the next time I stop by.

Gadani was highly rated, nuff said. It's got a nice interior, but most shops these days do. First thoughts are they are running a Fanloli in there, lots of cutesy stuff for sale, not common for coffeeshops, but I was excited for a banana mocha latte or honestly whatever that has banana in it, I'm all for that but it was sold out, big bummer. Second thoughts are I hate the kiosk ordering, I had to dig around for that disappointing news, tbh I feel like this kiosk nonsense just means whoever is back there gets more time doom scrolling but call me out for not loving the end of human interactions. Third thought was this is taking awhile, took about 10 minutes to get a milk tea which is a little crazy when no one else is there. Case in point for second thought because anywhere else it would half the time, are they making bead necklaces into the back? Fourth thought was when my wife said her milk tea tasted like water, which I tried and said yep it does, then she asked me if mine was bad, because I had the same order only hot, which I said, "yes it does taste like water, how did you know," to which we both say collectively, "fucking Berkeley." Normally id leave it there, but then I realized that the cup was spilling on me constantly and it actually wasn't me, the top wouldnt close so I was spilling the milk tea flavored water all over my sweater because their cups don't close properly. Listen, it wasn't a nice sweater but comon, insult to injury in a time of failure, people come to places like this to get a night cap, especially in a world where nobody young drinks. How the hell is this top of the mark, is it the ice cream? If it's the ice cream, I'm glad, because otherwise I think y'all are crazy. All that and parking was $20 bucks. Smh, why do people live like this.

There was a…read moreline out the door which got me excited because it usually means the place is good, and the reviews say the same. The only issue is there's no clear menu posted online, so we walked in completely blind. Their website shows a long list of flavors but not what they actually have that day, so it felt like a guessing game. The line moved really slow because there was only one employee handling everything. She was taking orders, giving samples, answering questions, and ringing people up all at once. She was super friendly and doing her best, but it felt like a lot for one person during a rush and the shop could definitely use more help. The space is really small and tight so it was hard to even see the flavors until we got close to the front. When we finally got up there, a lot of the tubs were already empty which was confusing since most ice cream shops restock. Some flavors I wanted weren't available anymore, and if they're out it would make more sense to just remove them from display. The dirty containers didn't make sense to display. I sampled the jasmine green tea and knew right away I wanted it. It was creamy with a smooth tea flavor that wasn't overpowering. I got a small with half jasmine green tea and half avocado. The avocado was surprisingly really good, super creamy and tasted like a fresh avocado smoothie. Both flavors weren't overly sweet which I liked. My husband wanted cookies and cream but it was sold out so he got chocolate chip instead, which was solid and creamy with good texture. Overall the ice cream itself was good, not the best I've had but definitely not bad. I like that the flavors lean more natural and not overly sweet. I could see myself coming back if I'm in the area, but the experience would be a lot better with faster service and more consistency with what's actually available.

I've been here a long time ago and think it was the original building / location during that visit. On this visit, my nephew and I were in the area, grabbing dinner and thought it would be really fun to stop by this spot for dessert. Also, Alysa Liu just got the gold medal in the Olympics and I was swelling with East Bay pride. When we got there, the place was really busy. Although we were able to get seated right away because people were mainly ordering ice cream at the front counter. The room where we were seated it's pretty large and bright. It was a fun and active vibe in there. Our waitress showed up and I wanted to get some crazy concoction and I can't remember exactly what I got, but it was one of the banana sundaes. My nephew ended up just getting two scoops in an ice cream dish. We both enjoyed our ice cream and I was telling my nephew about my experiences growing up in the East Bay a little bit and how this place was immortalized and one of my favorite movies 'Up'. Overall, just a great time with delicious ice cream and great, friendly service. They have their own parking lot, but I was able to find some street parking right across the street from the location. I would just warn you, however, that when you're parking on the street, try to not keep anything of value visible.
