Food was amazing. Service was a bit slow but the staff was very good in recommending wine and food. We got lots of freebies like caviar and biscuits and bread. My favorite was the fish. We also got a free taste of the olive oil which was amazing. My sin tried the carbonara and he loved it

We had a group of 9, 7 from America and 2 from Italy, have lunch here. It was fantastic. The wait service was efficient and spoke good English. Massimo, the owner, is a gem. Very kind, willing to recommend different plates and work around allergies. The cacio e pepe is the traditional Roman dish and it was amazing! I got the rabbit which was a big portion to have with the pasta. It was great also. We love it here and will come beach again!

Great place for some pasta and seafood. Seafood was fresh and delicious! We had the mussels and clams appetizers and the white wine sauce was delicious. Perfect sauce to dip the bread in! They also gave us a little egg sampler before our appetizer. We did not order it and I'm not even sure if we were charged for that.

Wonderful traditional restaurant with inexpensive wines by the glass and generous pours! The small staff really hustled to serve a busy evening rush and did it with grace.

Our concierge recommended this place on a late spring night and it didn't disappoint. We were seated outdoors, they had heaters by the table that kept us warm. Service was awesome. The menu is extensive. We ordered lasagna, ravioli, eggplant parmigiana, a veal dish and it was all delicious. The portions are not shareable. We enjoyed our evening over some delicious food seated outdoors by the fire.

We stumbled on this restaurant and were welcomed with a glass of champagne, free of charge. I had the gnocchi with veal meatballs, the gnocchi was exceptional. The service there was amazing as well. We were never sitting there waiting to flag down the waiter. I would recommend to anyone!

Came here for dinner one night since it was recommended by our concierge. Ordered the artichoke salad, gnochi with zucchini flowers/shrimp, and a chicken marsala. The salad was delicious with its fresh parmesan cheese! Chicken marsala was good as well but I wasn't a huge fan of the gnochi. The waiter seemed visibly disappointed that I didn't eat much of it and offered to switch it out but not very politely. Overall a good restaurant with reasonable prices and friendly staff.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge and was our first dinner on our honeymoon! Food, wine, and service was great! We ordered the pear cheese salad as a starter, the pumpkin ravioli (the best ravioli I have ever had!), the sea bass and pistachio spaghetti, chicken Marsala, and pistachio crusted salmon. We also ordered dessert... started with a "p" and was like cream puffs with chocolate on top... amazing also! Definitely recommend! Hope the rest of our dinners live up to this standard!

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
