La Scala is a hard toss up for me between 3-4 stars. There were some hits and misses. I am rounding up to 4 stars because at the end of the day my Carbonara Pasta was truly delicious! Service: 4 stars. I feel like we were treated well and given a lot of attention by the staff and owner when we arrived. As they got busier service did start to slow down but all in all we were checked up on and given good recommendations on the wine and popular items on the menu. We started with the basics and everything was "good" but not "amazing". Bread, soup, and salad were all good. The pizza was also just "okay". We got the mushroom pizza and we agreed that it was okay. Okay isn't good enough though when your in Italy as you'll find there are so many amazing options to choose from! The saving grace and reason as mentioned above for the ending 4 stars was how amazing my Pasta Carbonara was. My pasta carbonara was rich and creamy. The bacon on top was cooked and crispy to perfection. One of the best pastas I had on this trip. Scala really is a toss up. If your a carbonara freak like me you might just have to look past some of the "misses" to give this spot a try. However, to the majority of the group this spot falls at a solid 3 stars showing that the group consensus was a pass. There is just so much competition for amazing pastas and pizzas I think this place need to step up its service and recipes to be a fan favorite. I'm generously going to give 4 stars because the pasta was delicious. read more

We had been there 7 years ago in Rome and wanted to return. It's a family operation and I remembered the owner. His son waited on us and was excellent, friendly and provided good recommendations. He furthermore offered tastes of liquors prior to ordering and an extra treat at the end. Dinner for all four in our group was excellent and would happily return if ever in Rome again. read more

This restaurant is just okay. We stopped by for lunch and for a pizza and a salad. We ordered a salami pizza in which he asked if we wanted it spicy, and said yes, it wasn't spicy at all. Still a good pizza though. We also got a basic garden salad, for $12. So expensive for some greens, olives, and mushrooms. The server acted like he didn't want to be there. If you need food to get by, this is a fine place. If not, I'd fine somewhere else. read more

Don't overlook this place by the location to touristy hotels or other restaurants. This is a great option that is close by to landmarks and the metro stations. Our hotel recommended this place after their own restaurant. My wife and I had previously tried other restaurants before this one with less than stellar results and this was by far the best dining experience we had throughout our whole trip. We didn't feel rushed and the wait staff were very friendly and professional. My wife had the truffle lasagna and I had the spaghetti pescatora which were both excellent. They also don't add on the service fee like other touristy restaurants in the area. Also the tiramisu was very good as well. read more

Small, intimate, delicious and moderately priced what's not to like ? My husband and I came across this place during our honeymoon and enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere in nothing special, but for whatever reason it felt authentic and has its charm in that. But the real reason people check reviews is the food. And they definitely deliver on taste! My husband ordered the truffle menu and I the seafood risotto. My risotto wasn't my favorite dish, but the truffle menu was astounding! If I return to Rome, I will definitely check them out again. read more

We found this place on Yelp & Trip Advisor so we decided to give it a try and I'm glad we did! We had a bottle of their Moscato wine, prawns with mushrooms, lasagna, gnocchi and dessert which were all yummy :) Our server was friendly and spoke good English which was helpful. La Scala Via Veneto is amazing. Gorgeous wood adorned upscale restaurant with amazing food. The beef carpacio is simply divine. Out of the way and can be difficult to find as it is half way up a stair case between streets. Our concierge insisted we would love this place and we certainly did. In new cities concierge services are always wonderful to know out of the way places. Do not miss La Scala. read more

As usual found this place by shear luck. Walking around looking for any place to eat, checked Yelp and sat down. Was happy with the result! The food was great! I got a bruschetta for as an appetizer (which was delicious) then got a grilled fillet which was cooked and spiced perfectly. My friend ordered the sea food pasta and loved it. How the HELL did this place get good reviews???? We were in Italy for 10 days and of all the meals we ate, this was not just the worst one, but honestly the worst meal I've ever had in my entire life (including my Mom's cooking). My pizza Margherita was a burnt crust swimming in an awful orange sauce with some melted (not fresh) mozzarella swimming on top. It was not cut. It was fairly large. I choked down one piece because I was hungry, but it really wasn't edible. My husband got what can only be described as a small American side salad instead of a Caprese salad and his pasta had the same orange sauce as my pizza. Service was non-existent. We ordered wine, which was ok, and a bottle of still water. The ambiance was just not there. No one seemed to care about us. The waiter was really unhelpful. We got the check, about 75 Euro! We paid, took the rest of the water and wine and got the heck out of there...Avoid at all costs. read more

In 2017, we tried the restaurant again and feel that the review from 2016 was not favorable enough. Tonight we tried bruschetta, pizza, and my wife had a veal dish with truffles and mushrooms.....she raved about it and said that we should now include this location on our regular rotation. The wines are fairly priced and the profiterole for dessert was excellent. The staff is very friendly and the room very comfortable. Many of the guests were dressed for comfort so you can come wearing whatever you wish. Please give a try the next time you are in the area......a very safe bet.... We tried this friendly, cordial restaurant based on our host's recommendation. It is attractive and there is no language problem.. We tried a soup, which my wife enjoyed and a salad that I needed after a week of pasta.....we also tried a pizza and a really rich, dense chocolate mousse. Wish we discovered this gem earlier. Affordable and delicious. For two glasses of wine, bottle of water, an appetizer, two main meals, and sharing two desserts was only €60. Terrible experience and the worst restaurant of our trip to Rome. We arrived at 5:30 (yes, early for Italian standards but late for American) and were the only people in the restaurant. My wife ordered a margarita pizza and I ordered the pasta with crispy bacon with a side salad. The salad was a few cherry tomatoes and some iceberg lettuce that you had to mix yourself with the bottle of olive oil and balsamic left on the table. The pizza was completely burnt and no better than a pizza from the frozen section of your supermarket. The pasta was okay but the crispy bacon was a soft mess of fat with zero taste. We noticed another person arrive with "the desserts in a box", basically everything that is on the dessert menu for you to believe was homemade. Nothing is fresh, everything is over cooked and over priced. What a disappointment. We paid 75 Euro for something that should have been around 6. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, especially if you are an American on vacation. Absolutely disgusting, can't wait to eat on the plane. Don't believe the Yelp reviews as they must have been staged. read more
