4/2023 My husband, his friend, and I came here to try some good authentic Chinese food per his friends recommendation. We had a great experience at Fu Mon Lau in Dayton. My husband, his friend, and I went for dinner and really enjoyed everything. We ordered the SF15 (shrimp, scallop, squid, and fish cake in a bird's nest), A3 green onion pancake, A11 five spice beef, V2 stir-fried choy sum, and CP2 shrimp and scallop with tofu in a clay pot. Every dish came out fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The seafood was especially delicious and the green onion pancake was crispy and satisfying. Service was great, the staff were friendly, and the ambiance was both pretty and welcoming. Overall a fantastic meal and we'll definitely be back to try more dishes. read more

Went out for my birthday dinner. I was very impressed with the service. They are very nice. The food did not meet our expectations as the shrimp noodle dish lacked flavor and texture was off. A classy sit-down and be served restaurant, with comfy booths and several large group tables. We came at a non busy time. Waited less than a minute to be seated. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was excellent. We started with the scallion pancakes, delicate and flaky with perfect level of oiliness. The scallion flavor was hearty and these don't need any sauce. It was a fine app for two and only $5.25. I had the salt and pepper grouper which had a nice battering, not too thick, and lovely seasoning including a generous scattering of jalapeños. I asked for some hot chili oil on the side to kick them up a little more and it was perfect. My husband had grouper with black bean sauce in the clay pot. Sauce was delicious and mild and had plenty of well cooked onion and pepper slices. We were both very pleased. Portions were generous and we took some home. Our leftovers were boxed up for us on request, and the bill for two entrees, one app, two beers and a soda was $58. So it's easy on the wallet, but of course you can splurge on the live seafood. As we were getting ready to leave we saw them bringing in lobsters and huge crabs to restock the tank. Doesn't get much fresher than that. This was fantastic! Went here for my birthday dinner and it was so good. Had the green oolong tea and general tao's tofu. The tofu was some of the best I've had. Crispy outside, soft juicy inside. The sauce was great too! Waitress was very nice and quick with refills. We liked watching the fish tank in the restaurant and i made for good white noise, but would be sad to see a fishy be taken for someone's meal lol. read more

What an amazing surprised that I have in Dayton. Visiting the town for the week and I had a chance to check out this little gem . The restaurant is spacious with a lot of tables and beautiful decorations. I love the simple but elegant look. The food is amazing and authentic, they have a lot of vegetarian options if you are looking for that. The service is speedy and very attentive. Got take out from Fu Mon Lau after seeing all the good reviews. It was ready in about 20 minutes, and packaged well. My SO got the chicken and broccoli. I tried the sesame chicken, and we split crab rangoons. Overall, it was pretty good. Sesame chicken had lighter breading than at some other restaurants, but that was oddly appealing. Very large menu, so I would be interested in trying more entrees. Prices were super reasonable for the amount of food. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a place with a good mix of different types of Asian food. read more

Fast service environment. The food is excellent - I'm more of a General Tso's and crab Rangoon kind of guy myself. A little basic. But they're both amazing. Convenient location near the mall with folks standing by to get your order started. Fu Mon Lau in Chinese means house full of happiness and it's easy to see why when the selection is robust and so far everything I have tried is delicious. If you are craving your higher end Chinese food make sure to check out this place. Right by the dayton mall so alot of traffic, parking is limited (we had to park at the Mexican restaurant next door) and no entrance to pull directly in. The inside is very spacious that could hold larger groups coming in, they also offer round tables that seat 6 with a lazy Susan in the middle of the table. The staff was all very nice and seemed to help each other out. It was busy however we did not have to wait long for our drinks or food. We started with appetizers $4.95 green onion panack you get 2 perfectly cooked finger food that is full of garlic and green onion taste. The are super thin and crispy. No sauce is served with them and really it doesn't need it. But I am a dipper lol and dipped a few bites in soy sauce which was also very good. Drinks we got water and they don't serve fountain drinks it's all bottled with no refills (Pepsi products) pepsi zero was $2.50 Dinner we had Chicken and mixed vegetables $13.95 huge portions served with rice easly could feed 2 the chicken is so tender and in kind of like a teriyaki/brown sauce the vegetables are cooked perfectly to have still a bit of crunch Lobster special for 2 $67.00 served with rice definitely could be enough for 2 to 3 people. Fu Mon Lau Reminds us of our recent visit to China Centerville welcomes a much needed new Chinese restaurant. A formal Chinese banquet can involve many courses, with platters of food laid out on the Lazy Susan. Our China experiences began with both large American and Chinese breakfast buffets and always many courses, with platters of food laid out on the Lazy Susan for both lunch and dinner. These pleasant and attractive banquets may have lasted two hours. Fu Mon Lau dining area offers this features, and we encourage folks to attend in groups of 6 - 8. Definitely room for growth and development with dishes - we tend to eschew numerous chicken dishes and beef dishes. We began with a spicy Hot and Sour Soup which cleared the sinuses - excellent. Caveat: Servers are learning and doing their very best - English remains a barrier in ordering - be very patient. Thankfully, new owners have an understated dining area. We both elected seafood - C089 Szechuan Jumbo Shrimp. Our expectations for Szechuan seasoning were UNMET, and it was difficult to convey our expectation to servers (really missed the Thai seasoning scale.) Menu suggested Live seafood, and sure enough there were lobsters and Dungeness crabs - unfortunate that refrigeration noise is loud and intrusive.... Way above local buffets, and there is potential IF cooking staff will grow to meet the Dayton market needs. We have hope.... read more

Not impressed and not 4 star on this take out. Ordered a bunch of stuff to share with others. Sesame chicken lacked enough sesame or any flavor. Veggie LoMein noodles were over cooked and almost mushy. Mongolian beef was ok but spices were still in Mongolia. Dumplings garlic sauce was lacking enough garlic, ginger and vinegar. The other chicken dish again lacking any discernible flavors. Fried rice looked like brown rice with barely any fundamental ingredients. Picked up at 5pm and dining room was empty? Perfectly serviceable Chinese food. I haven't had the chance to try anything special here yet, but my wife and I and two of our kids had all the usual items, and it was fine. The only disappointment was that I asked for my spicy dish to be made as spicy as possible, extra extra spicy, and it was not spicy at all. But I'm used to that. Apparently, the chefs at most chinese, thai, whatever places don't understand what spicy means. Since our daughter is stationed here, we'll give it another try. read more

Oh no! Please don't go downhill! We ordered our normal serving of scallion pancakes and they cut the portion in half! Same price on the menu. We asked and the waitress said that's the new portion size but they did deduct $1 from bill (not reflected on menu). The restaurant was also unusually warm but wouldn't have been a big deal if not for the pancakes. Why? Because these are the signs for the beginning of a downward spiral. Cutting costs here and there and chasing away loyal customers. I hope this is a fluke and they don't continue to nickel and dime costs. We would have shrugged off a moderate price increase on the menu for the appetizer. However, because I know how they're made, there's already a huge profit on those things and it's not twice the work to make two since the batter is made and you can cook them at the same time... I also had thought the portion size on the main menu were decreasing but I shrugged those off because it was subtle... but looking back at old pictures, it's true... it's like a 10-20% smaller portion (subjective observation)! So... still good food. Service is also running slower and less friendly... exhaustion? They're always there but it's noticeable from the friendliness of when they opened... not just us but other customers. It's possible the stress of increased costs and temperamental customers is weighing on them. However, as a loyal regular... I hope they just increase prices... I must preface this review to readers, I am a New York City (Chinatown) born and raised till my teens. So foods like these are not new to me, and provide me with standards to measure to. I was quite skeptical about it being "authentic Cantonese" here in Dayton area (so many American Chinese take our flaunt this). My mom heard mixed reviews for this place, so we went ahead and tried it out for dinner. The decor inside definitely reminded me of new york restaurants, nothing yoo crazy. They have the standars fish tank where thdy keep the fish and lobster to cook later. They had sanitizer, plexiglass at the check out and employees were wearing masks. We tried a few things. Jelly fish, some cold slice beef dish, lobster, Cantonese Fried Rice, Beef Hor Fun, steamed fish and some sort of veggie (my mom ordered so I was not paying attention to sll the things she said). Jellyfish was ok, was not super refreshing or crunchy the way I like them. The cold slice beef was not bad, but definitely not the best. The beef noodles were pretty good (beef was tender and the noodles al dente) and the Cantonese Fried rice was pretty good (smelt fantastic comin to the table). I do not perso ally care for lobster generally but the sauce was good and the lobster itself was pretty tasty. Given their location.. it is pretty decent Chinese food. We typically drive to Cincy or Columbus for great Chinese. This would be acceptable to save time. Thry opened not too long ago, so I will update my review when they are a bit more established Tip : they only serve wine there in terms of alcohol. read more

My husband and I have been driving by, waiting for the opening. Finally, we saw the Grand Opening sign and went in that night. In speaking with the waitress, this is authentic Hong Kong style Chinese. I always complain about the Americanized Chinese in Ohio, so I was excited to try a few dishes. For a starter, we asked the waitress for a suggestion. She suggested the five spice beef. And she was right!! It's a seasoned, cold, sliced beef. The beef was very tender and the sauce was very tasty. And it was a good sized appetizer. Definitely shareable. For dinner, we got the Beef Ho Fan (noodle dish), diced salted fish & chicken fried rice and the Grouper Fish with black bean sauce in a clay pot. Wow! Everything was great! The Beef Ho Fun is wide noodles with beef, onions, green onions and bean sprouts. The sauce was great and the meat was very tender. The grouper dish had lightly fried grouper pieces, Chinese cabbage and onions. The fish was cooked perfectly. While it was fried, it was tender and the coating was able to soak up the black bean sauce. We had a side of steamed rice with it. The fried rice was like nothing I've had before. It is salty, as the name says. Based on that dish, I am sure that any fried rice dish would be great. It was cooked perfectly. I'm sure the more Americanized dishes are probably good though I will continue trying some of their more intriguing dishes on the menu. And there are plenty to try. The staff are very nice. We felt comfortable asking questions and getting suggestions. For anyone uncomfortable with dining in, they had a lot of take out orders while we were there. read more

I am not Asian but would suggest the food style is more towards Cantonese than Sichuan or Hunan. portion sizes are moderate and good value relative to the prices. The wait time for my meals has been relatively short, which may be a good thing or bad thing. The dining area is large with both tables and booths. Ambiance is sparse; no music or incense.
