However, I must regrettably express my disappointment as I have encountered significant issues on multiple occasions regarding my orders being inaccurately filled. Each time I reached out to voice my concerns, I was assured by the manager, reassuringly, that my name would be documented and that my order would be corrected upon my next visit. Yet, upon my return, I was met with outright hostility rather than the promised resolution. The individual I spoke with not only accused me of dishonesty but also escalated the situation to an extent where I was forcibly removed from the premises, despite my efforts to remain courteous and respectful throughout the interaction. Moreover, I faced a challenging language barrier, which compounded the difficulties in communication and understanding. I pride myself on being a forthright and honest customer, and in an effort to clarify the situation, I even provided the name of the staff member with whom I initially spoke. However, rather than taking accountability, I was met with a barrage of excuses, with the staff member blatantly denying any responsibility, despite their prior commitment to rectify the mistake. It is not the financial loss that stings the most; rather, it is the feelings of betrayal and indignation stemming from the deceptive assurances I received and the disrespectful treatment I endured. My Airforce LT daughter and I went there Saturday night at 8pm. Absolutely deserted. Really cool looking old school Chinese style place, but absolutely empty. We were having a craving for Chinese on a Friday night and haven't had it in a while my Mom had sweet and sour chicken. You can see what a huge portion it is there's definitely enough for 2 to 3 people to eat definitely had leftovers. I went with Hunan beef which was okay, when I got the order home it seemed like it was just broccoli and beef no other veggies. Hunan dishes normally has lots of vegetables and is spicy. Was told that the jiam pong was really good here so I decided to give it a try. As soon as I was seated, they brought me complimentary hot tea, water, and fried wonton chips with sweet and sour sauce. The seafood jiam pong was presented in a giant bowl. They also gave me a complimentary side of kimchee for my dish. Their jiam pong broth was piping hot and slightly spicy. The seafood in it didn't have much variety (just shrimp and baby scallops). They give you a ton of noodles because regardless of how much I ate, there was still over half a bowl of noodles left. It was like an endless bowl of noodles, but I'm not complaining. Had to pack my leftovers and it completely filled the takeout container. The service here was really good. They helped me pack my leftovers (they offered to separate the soup from the noodles for me so it stays fresh longer) and they made sure my water was always filled to the brim. If you come here, you have to try their jiam pong. It's large enough to share/make into two meals. read more

Solid jajangmyun for the middle of Ohio! I was on a short trip to Dayton from Columbus and got on Yelp to scope out the lunch scene. I would have LOVED to try the jamppong - but in the middle of a pandemic, I'm just not going out to eat in a restaurant. So I got jajangmyun to go and ate it in my car. You just can't do jjamppong in a car - kudos to you if you can, but I can't imagine! It was savory and delicious - the last time I got jajangmyun was at an unnamed restaurant in Columbus. We came here on a recommendation of my old man's co worker. Yelp seemed to support with positive reviews and high ratings. I honestly have to say I was disappointed, and this was nothing terribly different from other Chinese take out kind of place. Maybe they have a real chinese menu that I could have unlocked for a better culinary experience, but based on my experience tonite.... dull. The hot and sour? Dull... lacking any strong flavors or spiciness. Nothing to brag about, but not the worst. The Yu seng pork I had .. was ok. Actually expected something spicy based on the menu spicy indicator. It was an ok dish, but i personally feel it was actually too sweet for me. My old man had crispy shrimp... and even too sweet for my old man. He did say it was still ok. Overall.... probably wont be back. Choose China Cottage if you want a chance of finding something yummy and a little more savory. I did a little exploring around Dayton a few weeks ago... I'll start off by echoing what Brian C. said about some of the best service you'll see at a Chinese restaurant. The service here is smooth as silk. The staff here works the dining room like a great team should. The younger Mexican server and the middle aged Asian man made sure there was no lag time between appetizers, soup and the entree. The server started off by dropping off a bowl of those complimentary crispy wontons and some sweet and sour sauce for me to munch on. Before I knew it I had a cup of thick Hot and Sour Soup in front of me. It's has a great rich smokey flavor and it's got plenty of the good stuff in it....not just broth. The lunch combo by the way comes with a chicken wing, a crab rangoon and the soup. I give him additional props because when I ordered the Schezuan Shrimp, he informed me that theirs was breaded shrimp in a sauce with no vegetables. That's definitely not what I wanted so I explained what I was looking for. He recommended the Spicy Shrimp with Vegetables which was actually quite good. It came out scalding hot just like it should. This is a classic, slightly kitschy, old school Chinese American restaurant. If you've got a craving for some of that familiar Chinese comfort food that we love, then this is the place for you. read more

Good value for the amount of food, though I really could have done without both the chicken wing and crab triangle (a Rangoon, and I don't do cheese... really why is there even cheese served in any Chinese restaurant, yet I digress). I found the King Pao chicken (they call Princess Chicken) is pretty oily. I did like how fine the celery is chopped. No scallions (at very few?) or bell peppers (like some places use) in their version. I ordered it spicy, so that made the fact that I couldn't detect Sichuan peppercorn all the more disappointing, though there were plenty of chilis. The best Chinese in Dayton. China Cottage for some reason gets all the hype and fanfare but food and service wise it's not even close. Trust me, drive a lil farther down and come here instead. If you dine in you get hot tea and won tons which are both really good. There's both a Chinese AND Korean menu, and my mom vouches for the korean menu. She loved her food here. You also get a nice side of Kimchi. Service fantastic. Also I recommend if your meal doesn't come with one of their wings, to order some. The wings here are awesome and remind me of Bonchon wings which are the best in the country. Decors nice and has a classic Chinese restaurant feel. Cozy and seats a lot of ppl. This used to be my 2nd favorite restaurant in Dayton. New ownership over the past 2 years now buys in frozen steamed dumplings and pot stickers instead of the old handmade ones. They also tweaked the recipe for the eggrolls and they are now smaller. These egg rolls used to be the best in Dayton. If I ever had any inspiration to go to Mongolia, it would be from the chicken I ate here. I grew up in Dayton, so ive eaten my fair share of dishes from North China, and its always a great experience. This is one of the only restaurants that I crave when I am back in town for a visit. One of the first things I must mention is the phenomenal service when you dine in or carry out. They are always ready to seat you, and you will never find your drink empty. You will never be wondering where the waiter is or how long your food will be. Super friendly folks who know how to run a family business. Great old school Chinese decor, and warm family feel to the restaurant which I love. The lunch special is a great deal. Every combo comes with a cup of soup (hot and sour, egg drop, or wanton) a crab angle/Rangoon, and a chicken wing. They also bring you a pot of hot tea to your table along with some crispy wontons to snack on. I am a huge fan of the Mongolian chicken as well as the mongolian beef. The honey-esque glaze on the chicken mixed with the onions and spices served with a side of fried rice is perfect. So delicious, and would definitely recommend. My full lunch combo, with all the soup and crab rangoon and chicken wing, came to a whopping $7.45. How could that be any flippin better? Mongolian is awesome here one of my favorite dishes. I have tried both the chicken and the beef. You can't go wrong with either.

Picked up North China last night during the Christmas Rush. The portions were massive and we had plenty of food leftovers. Why 1 star? I was sick all night and it was 100% the orange chicken. The other person did not get sick which leads me to believe they used expired products for the dish. I wanted to like this place but I am still ill from the food. I get they were extremely busy but a flaw such as that can be devastating. Food poisoning is no joke read more

I'm new to the area so this is the first Chinese restaurant I've patronized thus far. For dinner, the parking lot was packed -- a good sign. The hostess was very attentive and seated me right away. The entire staff is very efficient and pleasant, a plus to any dining establishment. I can tell that there are a lot of repeat customers -- many were chatting with the hostess on entering and leaving the place. Another good sign. I ordered the Hunan beef and it came quickly. I wish I could report it was a great dish but the truth is there was not even a hint of spice/heat to it, even though that little spice symbol was right there beside it on the menu and it was evident there were chili peppers in my dish. Let's say it was a nice beef and brocoli dish, nice enough that I took leftovers home and finished off for another meal. But, let's not call it a Chinese dish of Hunan beef. I will be back to try another dish and update my review at that time. Obviously, from the crowd that was there, people like this place. The best part?
