I got the general tsos tofu, as I usually would at any Chinese restaurant. I was hoping this place would have some more obvious Szechuan cuisine on the menu like other restaurants I've been to but whatever. The tofu was in a orange sauce, I think they put orange sauce on it instead of General Tso's. If that is just what their General Tso's sauce was, I've definitely had better. And I wasn't a huge fan of the cook and taste of the tofu itself. My parents seemed to like what they got. My mom had the hunan beef. read more

A year ago, I want to say, my family and I found Misolsol China in new Carlisle area. In the beginning of the year, They closed. I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food. It took me about 10 years to find one I like. So I was upset. Rumor had it, they moved here. I thought why not I will take a shot It is them! I saw the same lady! I love the food. It is so much less greasy than other places. I will say the orange chicken was a little bit more lesser and did not have the hot pepper. But I am still very happy. I am so glad I found you. I will make the 30 + min drive. Service is great and friendly and the restaurant is cute read more

Never go there again! Ordered Kong Pao Chicken, what I got was Kong Pao Chicken with vegetables an almonds. The chicken was so small I couldn't find it and when I did it was nothing but grisly. We have been going to North China for several years. Dining on site for lunch is our norm, but today , I chose to do lunch time carryout. NEVER AGAIN. The portions were roughly 1/2 to 2/3s the size we receive when dining in. I normally am able to make 2 meals out of the on site servings, but not today. The bag was so light, I thought they had forgotten to include our soups. But no, they were included, just very, very small. And the hot sour soup was not the delicious, to die for soup, that we normally receive. It was more like hot sour broth with little ingredients. When I asked if the crunchy noodles for the soup were in the bag, I was told, "No, they are an extra charge of $1.00 a small bag. When we dine on the premise, we receive one to two bowls, for no charge. The portion of rice we received were one small "ice cream'" scoop size. I understand rising prices in the present economy, but raising prices while serving smaller portions, is a bad business practice if you wish to keep your customer base. We are going to think long and hard before returning, but if we do, we will choose to dine on site. read more

My wife and I have been dining at North China for the past 6 years since moving to Dayton from Columbus. The food has always been good and we were apprehensive when we found out that they had new owners. Last night we decided to get them a try. Much to our delight the restaurant is even better than before. We were excited to try one of the recent additions to their menu...the Warr-Shu-Gai. In the past we have always had to drive to Ding Ho in Columbus to have this dish. I am thrilled to report that the Warr-Shu-Gai at North China is even better than what we had at Ding Ho and that is saying a lot. The chicken was tender, moist and lightly breaded. We had ours without the mushrooms in the gravy which is the traditional recipe. The gravy was absolutely delicious. The sliced almonds and scallions on top were the icing on the cake. Service was very good and the lady who owns the restaurant is absolutely delightful. I have been in the hospitality business for 40+ years and would highly recommend North China to you, my family and my friends. read more

The food quality remains consistently good, which is why I have continued to visit. The dishes were well-prepared and met expectations based on prior experiences. However, there were a few concerns during the current visit. The waiter who served our table (blue-haired individual) had a noticeable and unpleasant body odor, which detracted from the overall dining experience. Professional presentation and hygiene are important aspects of service, particularly in a restaurant setting. Additionally, in the past, the restaurant played calm, instrumental music reflective of traditional Chinese culture. That atmosphere contributed to a quiet and professional environment suitable for business discussions. During this visit, radio music was played instead, which reduced the ambiance that previously highlighted the establishment as a suitable place for a profesional environment . Overall, everything was well aside from a few inconveniences. read more

Terrible experience, we have been coming for 10 years and will not be returning. Totally different now. Food is sub-par, service is blah and they overcharged us. No wonder the dining room was completely empty. I wouldn't be surprised if the close down soon. Too many good Chinese places to go here. read more

Yesterday 6/16/26: China North, isn't what it used to be. Just awful tasting and the staff isn't professionally polite. When my son went in to get our food, there was a boy about 10 years old manning the cash register. I have been going to this place, was my favorite, for over 20 years. The food now is unsavory. They want to charge you extra, over their high prices, for anything. I always loved when the other people owned this, their Moo Goo Gai Pan was so flavorful, with a really nice sauce and big white chicken pieces with a really nice garlic flavor. What I got now was this disgusting thick white paste with no flavor. If you want garlic you have to pay $2.00 extra, the previous owners would put extra it in for free. This place informed me they do not put garlic into it, but look at recipes for this dish and it always has garlic. The hot and sour soup was to die for, it does not resemble it now. With large containers of soup the previous people would give you 4 or more packets of crunchys, these people give you 2 for all that soup. And these "crunchys" are not good at all, pale narrow ones. I make better Chinese dishes, my son's Chinese wife would request me to make some for her. I have to start my task of finding a decent Chinese restaurant. This place will close down, and they deserve to, before they make more people ill. read more

I really wanted to love this place even though it's seen better days. The people were very prompt and friendly, but the food for all four of us was just so so. I'm desperately searching for a Chinese restaurant that doesn't over-Americanize with thick, low-flavor sauce, but this wasn't it. I'll try them again but on a day with lower expectations. read more

As a regular patron of this restaurant, I have typically enjoyed the delightful culinary creations they offer, which have earned them a place in my heart over the years. However, I must regrettably express my disappointment as I have encountered significant issues on multiple occasions regarding my orders being inaccurately filled. Each time I reached out to voice my concerns, I was assured by the manager, reassuringly, that my name would be documented and that my order would be corrected upon my next visit. Yet, upon my return, I was met with outright hostility rather than the promised resolution. The individual I spoke with not only accused me of dishonesty but also escalated the situation to an extent where I was forcibly removed from the premises, despite my efforts to remain courteous and respectful throughout the interaction. Moreover, I faced a challenging language barrier, which compounded the difficulties in communication and understanding. I pride myself on being a forthright and honest customer, and in an effort to clarify the situation, I even provided the name of the staff member with whom I initially spoke. However, rather than taking accountability, I was met with a barrage of excuses, with the staff member blatantly denying any responsibility, despite their prior commitment to rectify the mistake. It is not the financial loss that stings the most; rather, it is the feelings of betrayal and indignation stemming from the deceptive assurances I received and the disrespectful treatment I endured. Additionally, the individual continued to be curt and dismissive, brushing aside my valid concerns as if they were inconsequential. Consequently, I find myself feeling disillusioned and have resolved not to patronize this establishment again in the future! read more

Szechuan Dining Our Tennis Club offers A/C courts, but it is still hot. A pop-up summer rain forces us to suspend play as several men scurry to raise the tops on their Vettes. Puts us in the mood for Szechuan Dining. North China Restaurant is a few minutes west, and is doing a great lunch business. We always begin with hot tea and Hot and Sour soup. The Szechuan Shrimp with rice is just ok, as is the service. North China Restaurant is nicely decorated, and is nicely air conditioned. We recommend for a very average Chinese meal. read more

My Airforce LT daughter and I went there Saturday night at 8pm. Absolutely deserted. Really cool looking old school Chinese style place, but absolutely empty. We ordered to go and in a couple of minutes got our food. Obviously ready-made, buffet style. I got Kung pao beef, and she got some kind of simple chicken and snap peas. They gave us a ton of food! I imagine they have to throw out a lot having no customers. It was just okay. My daughter got mild diarrhea that night. And that's about it. read more

I ordered carry out from North china restaurant a few weeks ago on Friday night. North China has been in business for years on Far Hills in Centerville next to the library. We were having a craving for Chinese on a Friday night and haven't had it in a while my Mom had sweet and sour chicken. You can see what a huge portion it is there's definitely enough for 2 to 3 people to eat definitely had leftovers. I went with Hunan beef which was okay, when I got the order home it seemed like it was just broccoli and beef no other veggies. Hunan dishes normally has lots of vegetables and is spicy. It was nothing special. The food was ready in 15 minutes and pickup was quick. read more

I ordered carry out. The gentleman on the phone was very pleasant. Ordered the chicken fried rice, chicken egg drop soup, Spring rolls, General Toas chicken and the crispy shrimp. Total came to $71.00. Ouch. Food was ready when I went to pick it up. Everything was good but I didn't care for the soup. They put carrots in it and all you could taste was carrots. Fried rice was good but didn't care for the chicken cubes they used. All in all it wasn't bad but I will change my order next time if I get carry out again. read more

I'm nuts about this place. The decor, the menu, the stellar service all harken back to times when Chinese food was exotic and special. Cute little restaurant! I always get the general tsoa's chicken. Service is fast and friendly.

My supposedly HOT garlic chicken was very sweet. My hot and sour soup was not HOT. This was a very disappointing meal. I won't order again.

Was told that the jiam pong was really good here so I decided to give it a try. As soon as I was seated, they brought me complimentary hot tea, water, and fried wonton chips with sweet and sour sauce. The seafood jiam pong was presented in a giant bowl. They also gave me a complimentary side of kimchee for my dish. Their jiam pong broth was piping hot and slightly spicy. The seafood in it didn't have much variety (just shrimp and baby scallops). They give you a ton of noodles because regardless of how much I ate, there was still over half a bowl of noodles left. It was like an endless bowl of noodles, but I'm not complaining. Had to pack my leftovers and it completely filled the takeout container. The service here was really good. They helped me pack my leftovers (they offered to separate the soup from the noodles for me so it stays fresh longer) and they made sure my water was always filled to the brim. If you come here, you have to try their jiam pong. It's large enough to share/make into two meals. read more

I did a little exploring around Dayton a few weeks ago... I'll start off by echoing what Brian C. said about some of the best service you'll see at a Chinese restaurant. The service here is smooth as silk. The staff here works the dining room like a great team should. The younger Mexican server and the middle aged Asian man made sure there was no lag time between appetizers, soup and the entree. The server started off by dropping off a bowl of those complimentary crispy wontons and some sweet and sour sauce for me to munch on. Before I knew it I had a cup of thick Hot and Sour Soup in front of me. It's has a great rich smokey flavor and it's got plenty of the good stuff in it....not just broth. The lunch combo by the way comes with a chicken wing, a crab rangoon and the soup. I give him additional props because when I ordered the Schezuan Shrimp, he informed me that theirs was breaded shrimp in a sauce with no vegetables. That's definitely not what I wanted so I explained what I was looking for. He recommended the Spicy Shrimp with Vegetables which was actually quite good. It came out scalding hot just like it should. This is a classic, slightly kitschy, old school Chinese American restaurant. If you've got a craving for some of that familiar Chinese comfort food that we love, then this is the place for you. read more

Solid jajangmyun for the middle of Ohio! I was on a short trip to Dayton from Columbus and got on Yelp to scope out the lunch scene. I would have LOVED to try the jamppong - but in the middle of a pandemic, I'm just not going out to eat in a restaurant. So I got jajangmyun to go and ate it in my car. You just can't do jjamppong in a car - kudos to you if you can, but I can't imagine! It was savory and delicious - the last time I got jajangmyun was at an unnamed restaurant in Columbus. It had these huge chunks of onion and potato and not much else. The sauce here is excellent and I'd come back again. read more

We came here on a recommendation of my old man's co worker. Yelp seemed to support with positive reviews and high ratings. I honestly have to say I was disappointed, and this was nothing terribly different from other Chinese take out kind of place. Maybe they have a real chinese menu that I could have unlocked for a better culinary experience, but based on my experience tonite.... dull. The hot and sour? Dull... lacking any strong flavors or spiciness. Nothing to brag about, but not the worst. The Yu seng pork I had .. was ok. Actually expected something spicy based on the menu spicy indicator. It was an ok dish, but i personally feel it was actually too sweet for me. My old man had crispy shrimp... and even too sweet for my old man. He did say it was still ok. Overall.... probably wont be back. Choose China Cottage if you want a chance of finding something yummy and a little more savory. Side note : not sure where the korean food pics came from... there isnt any there! read more

Good. Not great but good. Review based on a lunch special. Good value for the amount of food, though I really could have done without both the chicken wing and crab triangle (a Rangoon, and I don't do cheese... really why is there even cheese served in any Chinese restaurant, yet I digress). I found the King Pao chicken (they call Princess Chicken) is pretty oily. I did like how fine the celery is chopped. No scallions (at very few?) or bell peppers (like some places use) in their version. I ordered it spicy, so that made the fact that I couldn't detect Sichuan peppercorn all the more disappointing, though there were plenty of chilis. The hot and sour soup was not the best I've ever had, but it was definitely solid... probably the best part of my lunch. read more

Carryout tonight was not even edible. Everything seemed old. Chicken was stringy. The eggroll was like it had been fried at lunch and set aside all day. The best Chinese in Dayton. China Cottage for some reason gets all the hype and fanfare but food and service wise it's not even close. Trust me, drive a lil farther down and come here instead. If you dine in you get hot tea and won tons which are both really good. There's both a Chinese AND Korean menu, and my mom vouches for the korean menu. She loved her food here. You also get a nice side of Kimchi. Service fantastic. Also I recommend if your meal doesn't come with one of their wings, to order some. The wings here are awesome and remind me of Bonchon wings which are the best in the country. Decors nice and has a classic Chinese restaurant feel. Cozy and seats a lot of ppl. Every time I've been here it's been pretty busy also. Highly recommend! read more

This used to be my 2nd favorite restaurant in Dayton. New ownership over the past 2 years now buys in frozen steamed dumplings and pot stickers instead of the old handmade ones. They also tweaked the recipe for the eggrolls and they are now smaller. These egg rolls used to be the best in Dayton. Most all other dishes are the same, it is heartbreaking that they would change these favorite menu items that they had served since 1987. read more
