The most horrible experience at a restaurant EVER!! Went there today Sunday for brunch. We were a total of 4 people, stopped in at about noon for brunch. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated, then another 20 minutes to order a coffee. There was no sugar on the table we asked our server for sugar and she took so long that we got up to take some from the table next to us. By that time our coffees were cold. We ordered our food at the same time that we ordered our coffees. We could barely get our server to look our way. After waiting over 45 minutes we asked for a manager. The manager who didn't even introduce himself came over to the table and stated he only had one cook and the tickets in the back somehow got messed up. He said our food would be up next and guaranteed that he would discount our tab for our patience. Another hour passed by and we still were not served. I have NEVER been to a restaurant where I had to wait over 2 hours to be served cold food. I ordered a steak and scrambled egg skillet. The eggs looked like a 5 year old made them under a parental supervision and the hash browns were under cooked. Finally we get our tab and there was no discount applied or anything. We had to talk to the manager again for him to only discount 8 dollars from a 70 dollar tab and still had the nerve to ask us to come back. RIDICULOUS!! I would never come back here and surely will not recommend his place to anyone. read more

I ordered the avocado toast and it had an option for either egg or bacon on it. I said I would like both egg and bacon, so add the egg and add a side of bacon. When the food arrived, there was no egg, only bacon on top. I asked the sever about it and she said that egg doesn't come on it. So I asked for a side of egg. When asked how I want the egg, I said sunny side up. I began to eat my food only to find that the toast was soggy, making all of the topping fall off of it. The flavors were good, but it was really just bread with three slices of avocado, pico, and three bacon strips. I got up to use the restroom and when I came back, my eggs were at the table. They were not sunny side up, they were scrambled. I ate my food, knowing that this server was probably just a high schooler working a casual summer job. When she brought the bill, I was charged for the "side" of bacon that was supposed to come with my item. I informed her of this mistake and she adjusted to bill to take it off. When it came time to pay, my dining partner and I gave our cards and a $5 off coupon to the server and asked to split the total down the middle. When she came back, she informed me that she made a mistake and forgot to use the coupon until after she ran one of the cards. So the coupon was taken off of one diners bill and not the total cost of the meal. Now, if just one of these things happened while I was there, that would have been fine, but to have every single aspect of my meal messed-up in one way or another is just too many mistakes. To extend this story a bit more, the woman sitting at the table next to me also had her order messed up. She asked for no onions and there were big slices of red onion on both her sandwich and in her salad! I will never go here again. I will never suggest this place to anyone. I will in fact, warn people about going here. read more

They never served my food after 40 minutes. They kept saying they were going to bring it out but they never did. They served a bunch of other people that came afterwards. Ended up leaving. read more

I order the strawberry and bananas pancakes. Disappointed, they really don't taste good at all. I've had better pancakes.

Service sucks, food isn't great, jumping bean or Dusek's down the street is preferred

This is a gem in Pilsen. The food is fresh & the atmosphere is great. I love the music they play, not too loud or overbearing. The staff is friendly. read more

Do NOT come to this place if you have somewhere to be in an hour. It seems like an in and out breakfast spot, but I swear we never get out of here in under an hour. I like that they serve Intelligentsia coffee and have been generally pleased with the breakfast menu (fried eggs, omelettes, hash browns, and pancakes). They're not next level amazing, but for the price it's solid. However, based on my 5-ish visits, the service is consistently friendly but slow at every step of the way - getting your order in, coffee filled, food coming out, table clearing, getting the check - there are always lags. We've been there, totally done eating, and spent 10+ minutes trying to flag down a server for the check while people stood by the door waiting for a table. Also, I had a drink spilled on me once which fine, whatever, things happen - but all these incidents just make me feel like they need to train people better and get a better sense of how to efficiently run things. Overall, I come back because I live in the area, but this is not a place I'd seek out if I didn't live nearby. read more

The outside totally belies the hip interior: local art on the walls, cozy decor. The staff are super friendly and attentive. And our breakfast was AMAZING. I had the chilaquiles and they perfectly spicy yet still flavourful. My friends loved their green enchiladas and huevos rancheros as well. I would digitally l definitely go back the next time I'm in Chicago! read more

Glutten for punishment. 3rd time the charm? Nope. I love Steak and eggs on Saturday Mornings, and this place has multiple steak items on the list. Of the T-bone the NY strip , the Ribeye and something else they only had the Ribeye. Not the best for steak and eggs but maybe I can make it work with the eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Just put some steak sauce and it will be fine. Nope. No steak sauce, but I overheard that they were going to get a "To do " list together and need a sauce list. I hope that list works out . So my food comes and apparently I got the "something else" full of gris, impossible to cut with their dull knives. the toast was so dry, no hint of butter or anything. The hashbrowns were undercooked, and the only food positive were the eggs. they were cooked to order, over easy. So I will never return, and like the other grills in the hood, this one is sure to follow. I recommend Duseks steaks and eggs their presentation is like art and very satisfying, but the best on 18th st is 18th st. Bisrto. I can not describe the chef Ralpha approach to steak and eggs. On a positive note about Pilsen Grill. The service was attentive. read more

My friend and I decided to stop by Frida since she just moved to the area. We were super excited to try it. However, it was very disappointing. We were seated immediately, but once our waitress came, things just started to go wrong. The waitress was a young girl with knee pads, and I say this because I do not know her name, she was very lost or confused. It seemed like she had no prior experience in the serving industry she laughed at questions we made as if we were idiots (literally just asked if I can have the enchiladas with no eggs). We got our food - the chilaquiles with the steak was delicious, but the enchiladas with chicken was horrible. The chicken was not cooked well, and it was cold, the manager came over with an I don't care demeanor. He explained that the chicken is marinated with chimichurri and I told him I'd had chimichurri before, but that's not at all the chicken I tasted. He offered to make a new order without the chicken. We were done and the server took forever to come back and check on us. When we asked for the check we noticed that we were charged for the chicken, very upsetting. I asked to speak with the manager and asked him, "what is going on with the service" he gave me a blank stare no apology he merely stated she didn't understand but she spoke English very well. Again just excuses for the lack of professionalism. He tried to offer us coupons but our complaint was about the lack service. We do not want your coupons, we merely ask for acknowledgment and amendment for the experience we had. This review could have been five stars, but the manager and server tarnished our experience. read more

I don't normally write reviews but service was so bad I had to. It took 10 minutes before the waitress took our food order. We waited another 25 minutes for our food, it's was cold, I ordered a side of avocado never came and got charged for it. Waitress never came to refill our drinks. Asked for the check twice, which took forever to pay too. read more

I tried this place for the first time today. The food was okay, the coffee was great, the staff very attentive and polite. The glassware used for the creamer could've been cleaner. I tend to notice small details like that. I did enjoy the experience enough to go eat here again. read more

The first time we dined here was by sheer accident. It was on a Sunday morning a month ago and there was one other couple that was also having breakfast at the time. Our server was very delightful and attended well to our table, always keeping our glasses full. We found our orders to be good and fulling. The only negative was that the pancakes were not worth having. But, all in all, a good experience. My partner came back a week later and found it to be a drastically different experience. His (3 ingredient) omelet was poorly made, as shown by the cold slice of cheese place underneath the top egg flap. On top of that, it was not good at all. Most recently, I dined there for a quick late breakfast/early lunch. There were a good five tables full, which made me smile given that there was only one other couple the last time I was there. I ordered the philly sandwich with a salad. After waiting for 20 minutes to get my food, the salad should never have been offered to anyone. While the dressing was put to the side, the bad lettuce leaves were dripping and made a small brown puddle on my plate. I did my best to put the leaves aside, but I was left with hardly a salad of any kind. Alas, the server noticed and offered to get me a new salad. However, it was the exact.same.problem. So, I gave up. As for the sandwich, I was surprised that they served a philly cheese sandwich between two regular slices of bread as opposed to a bun of any kind. It was okay but with one thing slice of steak, there was much to be desired; especially considering the bad salad that accompanied it. Needless to say, from the five stars we initially had on our first visit and each one of our terrible visits after that... Two stars. read more

Recently moved to Pilsen and was looking for traditional breakfast, found this place and decided to give it a try. Cute place, good food. I ordered the strawberry and banana pancakes and they were very filling. My server.. Not so good. Once my food arrived he never checked on me. I had to ask the busser to get my server so I could get my check. I saw another server attending her tables a lot more frequently then the server I had. Nice place, good vibes over all. read more

Have been waiting 60 minutes for food. When food finally arrived 40 minutes after we placed the order, it was freezing and the orders were all incorrect. The waitress took our meals and brought them back, still incorrect 10 minutes later. STILL COLD. read more

This place is no longer Pilsen Breakfast and Grill. I'm confused about the name the menu said Pilsen Cafe but my receipt says Chimichuri? So I'm not sure. I used to LOVE Pilsen B&G. Great food. Great prices. Amazing service. Pilsen Cafe or whatever it is now...terrible service, food was below par, very overpriced. Was not busy when I went today maybe half full if that? And it took me over 30 minutes to get one plate of french toast and it wasn't even good. Could not hear my waitress at all when she approached me. Tables were way too close to each other. There was lipstick or something all over my glass. I asked for a new one and was never brought one. Overall terrible experience. I miss Pilsen B&G. read more

One visit is enough. Will never return. Coffee good. Waitress nice. Food terrible. Pancakes were so dry and inedible I ate two crumbly fork-fulls and pushed plate aside. Pancakes are pretty easy to make from scratch and it does not take an award winning chef to prepare... And with the word "breakfast" in the business name one would expect edible pancakes. They tasted like unmixed Sysco brand pancake mix and they were so utterly bad. I was very nice about it with the waitress, sometimes food does not come out perfect all the time. But when I was charged for the food I felt that they missed an opportunity to recover from a bad experience. When I later checked the reviews I saw others had been charged for bad food as well. My companions' food was edible, but they too did not feel that it was worth returning, as there are many choices now in Pilsen where we live. This business will not survive. The cook is not qualified to prepare food for the public, and charging for that bad food will destroy their reputation. I see no reason to patronize this restaurant for anything other than coffee... But you can get great coffee and food across the street at the Jumping Bean Cafe. Bottom line: Pilsen Breakfast should take a hard look at themselves. If new customers are unhappy, they will HAVE NO customers. This is a no frills place and they got it all wrong. Whoever is responsible for the kitchen- you have a lot of work to do. read more

Wish i could give this place 0 stars. Went there on 12/07/14 for lunch. our group consisted of 4 ppl. It was a little crowded when we got there. It took about 10 mins to get a table and another 20 mins to get coffee. We didn't have the sugar we asked for and had to wait an additional 15 mins for that, in which our coffee had gotten cold. Our waitress didn't even bring it to us we had to get up and get it ourselves. We were so busy in conversation that we didnt notice an hr had passed and we had yet to recieve our food or our lattes we asked for. We had to flag down a waitress that was not ours to ask about out food. Another half an hr passed and still no food. We asked to see the manger who only apologize for the kitchen being busy and said our food will be out in a little but. We proceeded to tell him that we understand but other ppl had come in after us and got their food already and we had to wait 40 mins for coffee. All he said was sorry they were busy and he would give us a discount next time we come in. We said we havent even got our food we dont know if we r going to come back. He said he would give us a discount for our meal today and that he hoped we liked our food. He didnt seem to concerned with the fact that we had waited and were still waiting for our food. It took an additional 20 mins for the food to come out. The food was ok nothing spectacular. One of the orders was messed up but we were afraid to send it back in fear of having to wait another 20 mins. When we got our bill there was no discount. We asked the manager in which he said he would put it on there. When he came back with the bill he said he gave us 10 percent off. Apologized again and just said he hoped we enjoyed the food. He did not comp any of the food for the inconvenience and did not even talk to the waitress for her lack of attention for our table. It is very unprofessional and rude of them to just blame it on the kitchen and think that will make it better. We will never again go to this place for their mediocre food and very poor customer service. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but I was super disappointed in the end. The place is bright and airy. The server was friendly. My sister and I ordered the 2 eggs with hash browns, pancakes, and sausage links. A pretty simple breakfast, along with coffee. The coffee was the best part of the meal; however, the sausage links were expired. Since my sister ordered the exact same thing, I asked her to try her links and she also thought they tasted rancid. We even got my husband to try them to get a third opinion before letting the server know. Sure enough, they were serving us EXPIRED links! Wtf! I am not one to get loud and make a big scene, so I kindly let the server know and she apologized on behalf of everyone working in the kitchen. It truly wasn't her fault, but nothing was done to make up for the lack of food safety. What if one of us got food poisoning? Furthermore, they did not even think to discount our bill for the links... At least. Though the server was friendly, I know she could have done something about it, instead of only repeatedly apologizing. I could have given this place 1 star, but the great tasting coffee bumped it up to 2 stars. read more
