Been here a few times and the food is always on point! It had been a while since I've been and to my surprise they now take reservations. We didn't have any but we were able to sit outside. They have umbrellas and even though the sun was on my back it wasn't too hot out, yet. The cafe de olla is a must and the cup they serve it in is cute although the handle is a bit awkward. My food was so good, I finished it all! I could've had something else but it was enough for one person. The salsas they had on the table were all different spice levels but the green one was my favorite. The only thing I'd say was meh was the checkout process. We just landed from a 28 hour flight from Asia and this was the first place we wanted to try being back home. It did not disappoint! When I say I was so happy to be back, it was because of places like the Frida Room. The space was a bit tight but I was focused on the bigger picture: the delicious food (and wonderful service). Both dishes we got were top tier! Not only that... the cafe de olla was probably the coffee I've had in Chicago in a long time. Definitely the best Cafe De Olla. While in Chicago, we got a chance to check out rut Frida Room for breakfast and it did not disappoint. Not only does the Frida Room offer a great variety of top brunch choices for you to enjoy, but it has a plethora of mouth watering dishes from their famous chilaquiles, pancakes, panini's, not to mention the best hamburgers and enchiladas in Chicago. A wonderful, beautiful restaurant with staff that goes above and beyond for the guests. All of the staff exudes kindness and compassion. They let us enter with a stroller and were helpful and willing to make accommodations to change tables in order to comfortably accommodate the stroller. They were attentive, ensuring that our coffee was refilled and checking up on us to make sure that we enjoyed the food. We already felt like the experience was perfect, but what made it even more special was the birthday celebration for my family member. The staff lovingly sang and brought out a plate of delicious pancakes. Our favorite part of the meal was the coffee options; I couldn't stop sipping from my café de olla. It was so flavorful and sweet, and it was enjoyable to drink without anything else mixed in. For food, we ordered the guacamole and chips, chilaquiles, and molletes. We liked the chilaquiles best with the verde sauce. We cannot praise this restaurant enough for such an enjoyable breakfast experience! Stopped in for an early weekend breakfast in Pilsen. Fun decor (yes, you'll see Frida) and music. Friendly waitstaff. Carafe of cold cucumber infused water on the table was a nice touch to start. I got the Molletes, as I've never tried this dish before. It's described on the menu as an authentic dish from Mexico City - toast with refried beans, mozzarella, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and topped with sunny side up eggs (+$2). The dish is served with crispy and seasoned potatoes. I asked if it'd be possible to substitute fruit instead of the potatoes (would be ok with an upcharge) but was told no substitutions for this dish. This was pretty good at first! I liked the beans and the bright pico, and the drippy eggs. Definitely felt more "homestyle" than like a fancier breakfast. After a little bit though, it didn't taste as good cooled down (and the bread - a standard white bread - got soggy). The potatoes were good but overall the meal was very hearty and filling so I didn't finish them. Looks like they always put out their homemade red and green sauces on each table. They're made with Serrano peppers and tomatillo and are delicious! I especially liked the green sauce on the potatoes. The Azteca coffee is just as fun and good as it sounds. Coffee-y, chocolatey, cinnamon-y. It's thick and rich to be sipped on slowly. read more

Wow!!! I have been wanting a really good Mexican breakfast for quite sometimes now we actually park down the street. We're heading to one restaurant. The parking was bad so we walked all the way down to a different restaurant and accidentally discovered freed up place and what a discovery we made it is absolutely awesome, you will not be disappointed with anything on the menu and the servers and employees are the nicest people you want to get a bit crowded reservations are accepted. We got onion rings for the table and I got chilaquiles verdes with steak and my friend got chilaquiles rojos with steak. Despite observing a table by the window empty ,the hostess stated they were in the bathroom without confirming they were in bathroom. This was frustrating, particularly as we then see someone clean it to get it ready for availability. Following that we told our server if we could move to it and she asks the host (that denied it to us) it was still available at the moment and knowing we ask for it since the beginning ... she then sees a couple come in and without even telling them said I'm giving it to them. Pair with a Cajeta latte (a little on the sweet side so maybe ask for less Cajeta syrup pumped into it) for a balanced brunch. Their Chilaquiles are OK - nothing special and the salsa on the Chilaquiles was mediocre. The staff said their Chilaquiles is equally as popular as the enchiladas but I don't know how -- the enchiladas definitely take the cake. Atmosphere -- lovely and lively! Nice for two and lively enough for a group. Love the open windows during the summer months! This hearty meal, with delicious fried tortillas with smothered in a dreamy salsa verde with refried beans, scrambled eggs with queso fresco, tender steak and ALL the apropo accoutrements--avocado, sour cream, cilantro and onions. Big fan of their chilaquiles verdes, they are delicious with a nice kick to them. Their bistec a la mexicana is also one of my favorites from here. I've been there a few times with family and everyone enjoyed the food. Serving sizes are ample, great service, and decor.
