I've been wanting to try Frida Room and had a weekday brunch. There was plenty of seating and the vibe was chill, so we chose a window seat that opened up to 18th Street. The decor had fun Frida-themed artwork, including skateboard decks. Service was polite and attentive, overall solid. Food-wise, the menu looked incredible and it was hard for my wife and I to just choose one dish. We landed on chilaquiles and a chivito sandwich, the menu itself would bring us back. The presentation of the food was really nice, but we found the taste/quality to be uneven. The sauces that were brought out in little plastic cups were tasty, as well as the chilaquiles. However, the sandwich seemed a little bland. How is that possible with steak, ham, bacon, egg, and Chipotle mayo? Not sure. Also the portions seemed a little dainty for the price. I think if the food was tastier, the price wouldn't sting so much. There's a balance between quality, cost, and quantity, and it's the cost that was a bit high. I'm still interested in trying other dishes though.
Came here on a Saturday with my family, make sure to have a reservation as they fill up quite quickly! On the smaller side with seating but they had outdoor as well AND the windows were fully open so we got to enjoy fresh air!! The food was great, absolutely no complaints there. The staff were so nice and friendly too! Checked on us to make sure we had everything and were very accommodating taking us a half hour before our actual reservation. Will definitely be back
Great Mexican-inspired breakfast spot. Accommodates groups well (we were 7 adults and a toddler). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Coffee refills are included. Had the Bistec a la Mexicana, which really hit the spot. The Serrano peppers were a bit on the spicy side, so beware for the spice-sensitive folks.
One of my go to spots for chilaquiles and good vibes. The service and people are quick and polite. The food delicious. I'd also get the cafe de olla, a Mexican staple coffee with sweet cinnamon and piloncillo (unrefined cane sugar).
Hidden gem in the Pilsen neighborhood. Mexican fusion breakfast/brunch/lunch spot. Offers an eclectic menu of foods with the addition of things like a never ending mimosa! Cool art hangs on the walls and dining space is roomy and cozy all at the same time. Service is quick, friendly and bilingual. Very busy around lunchtime but they do take reservations on OpenTable. Recommend!
We just landed from a 28 hour flight from Asia and this was the first place we wanted to try being back home. It did not disappoint! When I say I was so happy to be back, it was because of places like the Frida Room. The space was a bit tight but I was focused on the bigger picture: the delicious food (and wonderful service). Both dishes we got were top tier! Not only that... the cafe de olla was probably the coffee I've had in Chicago in a long time. Definitely the best Cafe De Olla. I would go back just for the coffee honestly. Again, I can't hype of the service well enough and the beauty in these pictures. Marvelous. They were on top of it and always nearby if we ever needed anything. So kind & friendly. If you've never been, go tomorrow (haha). Personal Review: 8.8/10
If you're a Frida fan then I recommend you go here as it is decked out in decorations representing her. They didn't take reservations when I went - not sure if this has changed, but I'd say be mindful of that if not. The inside was packed so we had to opt into sitting outside. That was fine but I wanted to be able to see their decor so that part got ruined for me. The food (I ordered chilaquiles) was okay - definitely needed more sour cream & cheese imo
While in Chicago, we got a chance to check out rut Frida Room for breakfast and it did not disappoint. Not only does the Frida Room offer a great variety of top brunch choices for you to enjoy, but it has a plethora of mouth watering dishes from their famous chilaquiles, pancakes, panini's, not to mention the best hamburgers and enchiladas in Chicago. The Frida Room has the best Mexican American breakfast in Chicago. You really can't go wrong with anything off their menu, I kept it simple with the eggs any style, with the sausage links. The dish comes with potatoes and I also got sliced tomatoes and a English muffin. I loved that their potatoes was nice and crispy and the English muffin was grilled. Their breakfast burritos are really good as well. The service was really good as well, servers were very pleasant and attentive. They also keep the coffee and water coming. I love that they put cucumbers in their water, which was really refreshing. If I'm in the Pilsen neighborhood I will definitely return.
A wonderful, beautiful restaurant with staff that goes above and beyond for the guests. All of the staff exudes kindness and compassion. They let us enter with a stroller and were helpful and willing to make accommodations to change tables in order to comfortably accommodate the stroller. They were attentive, ensuring that our coffee was refilled and checking up on us to make sure that we enjoyed the food. We already felt like the experience was perfect, but what made it even more special was the birthday celebration for my family member. The staff lovingly sang and brought out a plate of delicious pancakes. Our favorite part of the meal was the coffee options; I couldn't stop sipping from my café de olla. It was so flavorful and sweet, and it was enjoyable to drink without anything else mixed in. For food, we ordered the guacamole and chips, chilaquiles, and molletes. We liked the chilaquiles best with the verde sauce. We cannot praise this restaurant enough for such an enjoyable breakfast experience! So much gratitude to the kind staff who work so hard and made it so nice! I would recommend making a reservation because, as you can expect, it does get pretty crowded on the weekends!
My wife and kids took me here to celebrate my birthday before heading to nearby Museum of Mexican Art to check out their Dia de Muertos exhibit. I LOVE brunch and this place did not disappoint! My wife ordered our go-to chilaquiles with salsa verde. Two of my sons ordered the churro French toast and my youngest got the pancakes with cajeta and la lechera. Since I can't usually find it on menus, I opted for a bowl of carne en su jugo which hit the spot! The pleasant surprise was the cafe de olla at Frida Room! So good and I could drink that stuff all day long. The service and hospitality was excellent from the moment we arrived. The artwork was the icing on the cake Don't walk to this Pilsen gem, run!
I recently visited Frida's Room and had a really lovely experience. I tried the chilaquiles, and they were absolutely delicious--definitely some of the best I've had in a while. I also loved their café de olla; it was such a cozy touch and really hit the spot. The whole place has a charming vibe, and the prices felt really fair for the quality and service. I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area!
Stopped in for an early weekend breakfast in Pilsen. Fun decor (yes, you'll see Frida) and music. Friendly waitstaff. Carafe of cold cucumber infused water on the table was a nice touch to start. I got the Molletes, as I've never tried this dish before. It's described on the menu as an authentic dish from Mexico City - toast with refried beans, mozzarella, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and topped with sunny side up eggs (+$2). The dish is served with crispy and seasoned potatoes. I asked if it'd be possible to substitute fruit instead of the potatoes (would be ok with an upcharge) but was told no substitutions for this dish. This was pretty good at first! I liked the beans and the bright pico, and the drippy eggs. Definitely felt more "homestyle" than like a fancier breakfast. After a little bit though, it didn't taste as good cooled down (and the bread - a standard white bread - got soggy). The potatoes were good but overall the meal was very hearty and filling so I didn't finish them. Looks like they always put out their homemade red and green sauces on each table. They're made with Serrano peppers and tomatillo and are delicious! I especially liked the green sauce on the potatoes. The Azteca coffee is just as fun and good as it sounds. Coffee-y, chocolatey, cinnamon-y. It's thick and rich to be sipped on slowly.
Another place we recently went to for the second time in several years. We were in the neighborhood for packet pick up for a local race and we decided to give this place another shot. The decor is amazing. Everything was essentially amazing. It's such a cute place and sometimes there's a line going out the door because it's so crowded. Definitely go early!
Frida Room is one of those places I've been trying to visit for a while. Every time I passed by, it always seemed packed or close, so I finally made it in recently and I'm really glad I did. The restaurant has this beautiful hacienda-style look with a Frida Kahlo twist, colorful details, artwork, and little touches that give the whole place a lot of personality. The staff were also super nice and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. I ordered a Hot Chocolate Abuelita and the Mexican Toast, which is basically a panini-style toast topped with guacamole, queso fresco, and two perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs. When the dish arrived, it honestly looked like a masterpiece. The two sunny-side-up eggs were perfect, with those bright yellow, shiny yolks sitting right on top. Once I cut into them, the yolk was runny, spreading over the creamy guacamole and toast. The avocado was smooth and fresh, while the queso fresco added a mild salty flavor that balanced everything. The toast had a nice crunch on the outside but still had enough softness underneath to hold everything together. The hot chocolate was exactly what I wanted on a Saturday morning. It came out steaming hot, creamy, rich, and full of that classic cinnamon-and-chocolate flavor from Abuelita. It was sweet and paired perfectly with the savory breakfast. Great presentation, great flavors, and definitely a place I'm happy I finally got to try. read more

The Molletes with eggs was tasty but light and great to start my day mmm. The waitress was so friendly and always checking if I needed anything . What I really appreciated was that we were talking about the Molletes and she asked if that was the first time trying it? I said yes she said they added a twist to the traditional Molletes and if I don't like it please tell her and she would get me something else. I love trying new things and this was absolutely delicious and service was amazing. The decor and ambiance well the pics tell it all! I was so relaxed and comfortable! As a chef and die-hard foodie, I KNOW how to pick good restaurants. It's like all these years of eating and cooking deliciousness, I've developed a fail-proof technique. So when Frida Room appeared on my radar, i knew I had to go. I went solo on a weekday morning to avoid the crowd. The only thing I knew I absolutely wanted was a cafecito, which I realize is a Cuban coffee, but I was certain Frida Room had something similar. And boy, did they. The description of the Cafe Azteca looked just like the jump start I needed, so I ordered one straight-away. And it got my engines roaring. After carefully pouring over the entire menu, I chose the Chilaquiles Companeros with steak. This hearty meal, with delicious fried tortillas with smothered in a dreamy salsa verde with refried beans, scrambled eggs with queso fresco, tender steak and ALL the apropo accoutrements--avocado, sour cream, cilantro and onions. Nirvana. This place is just a total vibe. Gorgeous artwork featuring, da-da-da-daaaaaa, yep...Frida Kahlo, adorned every wall. Super-attentive servers and a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere makes you feel part of a family. Perfect for solo dining, date brunch and group outings. I love this place. Yeah...definitely go! read more

Delicious! This place has some really good food. The theme is just wonderful! I love all the painting they have around the place! The food was amazing and delicious BUT the best part was the cafe de olla!! It's a must try. Our waitress was super nice like we've known each other for years! read more

Wow!!! I have been wanting a really good Mexican breakfast for quite sometimes now we actually park down the street. We're heading to one restaurant. The parking was bad so we walked all the way down to a different restaurant and accidentally discovered freed up place and what a discovery we made it is absolutely awesome, you will not be disappointed with anything on the menu and the servers and employees are the nicest people you want to get a bit crowded reservations are accepted. The space is a little small but cozy very clean and very well appointed in the art on the wall, definitely museum quality. read more

Heard a lot of positive things about Frida's room in pilsen and decided to give it a try. My friend and I enjoyed our Mexican breakfast meals. I ordered molletes, she ordered enchiladas and they were amazing. I would recommend this spot to anyone in the area. I did notice it's a bit small inside so maybe not the best for big groups, however I'm sure they'll accommodate you. read more

There are a lot of restaurants that are similar to this one in Pilsen, but that's ok! The staff was friendly and the food was good. I didn't have a chance to take a picture, as I dug in to it so quickly! But my friend had Chilaquiles and I had enchiladas. The enchiladas are traditional-style, with cojita cheese and a lot of sauce (swimming in sauce). I enjoyed the art and general vibe of the restaurant. read more

Great place for a good filling breakfast! The potato's were delicious and I have to say this place has my favorite panini. The servers were super kind and provided great service. I walked in and my party was sat immediately which is always a huge plus. Their café de olla was perfect! read more
We came here for brunch and absolutely loved it. We were immediately given a table upon arriving and was offered coffee as soon as we sat down. The dining area is small and cozy, decorated with some lucha libre stuff, but more importantly, some Frida Kahlo Art. My son ordered their half order of French toast, while the wife and I ordered their Chilaquiles, Rojas and verdes. They came with a side of eggs and beans. The red Chilaquiles came with fried tortilla chips covered in their chipotle red sauce. It was topped with Mexican sour cream, queso fresco and cilantro. I just wished the sauce would be served hot rather than at room temperature. The chipotle sauce tasted amazing with the rest of the dish. Chips were crispy and it was a very filling dish. The service here was phenomenal. Everyone was very attentive and had smiles on their faces, despite what was about to happen. Can't wait until everything comes back to normal so I can return and dine in. read more

Ambience small quaint restaurant on a nice neighborhood block, family vibe, Spanish vibe. Service excellent. Food was good quality and tasteful. I loved the half order of French toast. Blueberry strawberry banana smoothie, nice big size and thick but light at the same time. I customized my moletes order! But my girlfriend who is originally from San potosi Mexico told me the bread should be toasted well and unfortunately the bread here was more soft and they scrambled my eggs instead off sunny side but it was basic seasoning on eggs, and probably would like less portion of eggs on the bread. I would return when I come back to Chicago. Saturdays are busier mornings but the staff, servers and host all work together and make it quick turn around for tables to be available! read more

Their breakfast enchiladas with the addition of steak is so flavorful and hearty. So much cheese, you won't ask for more. You will be satiated to your heart's desire! Pair with a Cajeta latte (a little on the sweet side so maybe ask for less Cajeta syrup pumped into it) for a balanced brunch. Their Chilaquiles are OK - nothing special and the salsa on the Chilaquiles was mediocre. The staff said their Chilaquiles is equally as popular as the enchiladas but I don't know how -- the enchiladas definitely take the cake. Atmosphere -- lovely and lively! Nice for two and lively enough for a group. Love the open windows during the summer months! Outdoor seating is meh -- not the greatest considering how small and rickety the tables are, in addition to the very small sidewalk he patio furniture is set upon. read more
This is a small, moderately busy restaurant with nice decors and a warm atmosphere. I had Molletes with a side of two sausage links. They tasted great and the presentation looked nice; however, it was a relatively small portion for the price. I'd revisit to enjoy its atmosphere and try new food, but wouldn't if I were starving/needed to be full. read more
