I came here with some coworkers on a weekday for lunch. The service was friendly and efficient, which was great! I ordered the make your own omelette with ham, cheese, broccoli, and mushrooms. It came with a side of house potatoes and toast. The house potatoes were amazing--really crispy and delicious! They also had large portions, although it's a bit pricey for what it is. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is because my omelette was oddly spicy. It's as if cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes were spilled in or something. I wasn't expecting a spicy omelette and didn't love it. If it was meant to be that way then I wish they would've advertised that. My friends however seemed to enjoy their food. read more

Frida Room is one of my favorite restaurants in Pilsen. The staff is very friendly, the decor is beautiful, the food is great, and the coffee is AMAZING. Seriously cannot recommend the coffee enough. My favorite was the cajeta latte, but the Azteca is also incredible, and the regular coffee is fantastic too! I stayed in Pilsen for 6 days and went to Frida Room 3x because of how much I loved it. So I give Frida Room 3 stars. They loose a whole star because the restaurant was cold! The waitress left green hot sauce and chipotle sauce at the table. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer, they were ok but didn't come with a sauce. We used chipotle sauce since there wasn't any other sauce. I ordered a strawberry milk shake, it was good. I ordered enfrijoladas with egg and steak. The temperature of my food was not hot when it arrived at the table and very soon got lukewarm. I really didn't like that. The restaurant was not full or super busy so I don't see why the food did not arrive to the table HOT. My food was ok/good. They lose a star because my food wasn't Hot, it was like lukewarm to say the least. The service was good no complaints. I would probably try another restaurant in Pilsen before coming here again. read more

Very cute interior! The menu had a good mix of traditional breakfasts foods and Mexican breakfast items. I was in the mood for enchiladas so I went ahead and ordered some with a side of steak. The enchiladas were incredibly runny with the sauce not being thick at all. It did have a nice flavor though. The steak was deliciously flavored and thin. Overall it was a good meal however not the way I enjoy my enchiladas. I prefer a thicker sauce. read more

This is a tale of one restaurant with a split personality. Personality #1 - We went in one Sunday, place was about 1/2 full. We received GREAT service and ate some good food. I had the veggie burger and fries - which was really good - I ate everything, including the fries. HE had an omelette which came with hashbrowns and pancakes - he also joined me in the clean plate club. Coffee was good - Intelligentsia. Our server was very attentive, as were the other people working that day. Personality #2 - We went in for lunch on a Wednesday, only 2 other tables seated. We were barely acknowledged, sat ourselves - server brought our menus - gets caught up trying to ring up 1 of the tables, we are still sitting there. She goes back and forth to the register, passing us each time - never says "I'll be right with you" "just a minute, I will bring you water in a bit" - NADA As a matter of fact, she acts like we are not there. Other people working there just look at us, then look away. One guy brings over a chorizo omelette and asks if it's ours. NO! We haven't ordered ANYTHING, I say out loud...server still doesn't say a word, come over to bring water or take our order. We walked out. So, will we ever return? No idea yet, right now I am too busy being upset. read more

We tried this place out before the name changed to " Frida's Room" and were disappointed with the food and service. We decided to try it again and well, at least we tried. The service was awful. The host had us wait a while before sitting us down and there were only 3 tables seated, every other table completely empty. He walked around for a bit and then finally had us sit down. No good morning, no small talk. Just "sit here" It took honestly a good 15 minutes to get the server to take our order. It then took around 30 minutes to get our food. I got a completely different dish than I asked for but I ate it because I didn't want to have to wait another 30 mins for another plate. The food was bland and sad. The salsas however were tasty and spicy. When we were ready to pay, the server was hiding. The host came to clean up our plates and we asked him for the check. 5 minutes later, nothing. 10 minutes, nothing. Disappointing. read more

I at first was skeptical about this location because of the previous restaurant, and just because of the area, and how things are changing drastically; but my first thought was cancelled when I ate here. The food is great, the service is awesome, and when you actually ask for the waitresses recommendation, they give you their honest opinion on the dishes, and don't automatically recommend the most expensive thing on the menu. This review is based solely on there service and or lack there of.. I wish I could rate them on there food, but unfortunately I was not given the opportunity. Came in with my fiancé for brunch, we were seated fairly quickly... and then we waited and waited and waited and waited. Nobody ever came back to take our drink order, let alone food order. They were fairly busy and I saw at least three servers and they all passed us by time and time again. After almost 20 min, we finally got up and left. I'm not sure I'd go back. The prices were a bit much for breakfast in my opinion. We tried the meat lovers skillet ($14) and the huevos divorciados ($13). Both dishes were drenched in sauce, which was ok for the first few bites, but after a while it just became too much and soggy. Also, the meat lovers skillet could have used a little more meat, hence the name. Service was ok, no complaints there. But overall, not too impressed. read more

I believe this place is now called Frida Room. We decided to branch out from our regular breakfast places and try somewhere new, found this via Google and was confused that we couldn't find it on yelp but went for it anyway. I'm assuming the name change is new as there wasn't any signs out front and the menu had at the bottom a tiny name saying pilsen cafe. Anyway it was a nice alternative to our regular diner style breakfast joints. Cute cafe atmosphere with nice lights hanging from the roof and cute wall decorations. The only thing I didn't particularly like about atmosphere was the loud bass playing on the stereo system, they were playing John Mayer style music with the bass pumped up which just didn't fit the vibe. The food was great, good menu selections with a mix of typical breakfast items and authentic mexican options. We both option for Mexican style to keep in line with the day of being different. I got the Steak a la Mexican which was HUGE. Steak had a good spice level (def spicy so of your not into spice it's probably not for you) and it comes with eggs, beans and tortillas. I only could eat about half and got a box for the rest. Prices are more than your typical breakfast place, so I'm not sure well become regulars but a good option if we have friends on our side if town for breakfast. read more

Great breakfast spot in Pilsen! They have a little bit of everything. If you're wanting a little Pilsen food flare or a more traditional breakfast, this is your place. I recently went there and sat outside with a friend and my dog. He order a breakfast burrito and I got a egg and sausage croissant. Both were pretty big sandwiches. You could take home half. Most meals come with the house breakfast potatoes. They are pretty tasty as well. Previously, I've enjoyed the berry French toast. They do have good coffee or lattes! It does get busy on the weekends after 10 for brunch. Unfortunately, I have not ate lunch to comment on this part of their menu. Don't forget it's BYOB! read more

This is my second time at this amazing breakfast spot.. also in ONE month. I usually do well with not going to places more then onces a month so I don't get tired of them but this place really struck me! I forgot what I ordered my first time but this morning I ordered French toast with strawberries. Aside from forgetting to tell the waiter I wanted no strawberry jam AND that I wanted the strawberries aside -- the French toast were fluffy & delicious! As for my drink, a cappuccino... great drink. It was my first time trying one as I am learning about different coffee's. I did have to add one baggie of raw sugar but I still have some getting used to different kinds of coffee. Waiter: on point! She might have been a bit pushy but we enjoyed the quality of the food & service. Lastly, the waiter was nice enough to split our checks (myself & a girlfriend)! This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Chicago. The menu is a fusion of Mexican and American plates. I haven't had anything here that I don't like but I usually have the bistec ala mexicana or the chivoto sandwhich with the Azteca coffee. I haven't experienced long waits to be seated regardless of how busy they are and the service is always friendly. When they're busy, the kitchen can be a bit slow but the food makes up for it. read more

Although the food was good, I had a very unpleasant experience. I did contact the restaurant on their FB page, but they never responded. The waitress did not give me back the correct change. When I confronted her, she seemed bothered. She had a bit of an attitude when she returned with my change. It seemed pretty clear to me that she knew she had not given me the correct change. I told her that it was wrong to knowingly give back the incorrect change. Afterwards, I also noticed her talking to another employee about the situation and they seemed to be laughing about it. This is about having integrity, being honest and treating customers with respect. I'm not sure if I will be visiting in the near future. read more
