AMAZING MAGICAL FRENCH BISTRO - MUST TRY!!!! I just had my bachelorette weekend in Leucadia and we couldn't find a place to fit us or that was open later and then we stumbled onto this magical little place. They had beef bourguignon and were BYOB so we a magical celebration on their back patio with twinkle lights and lovely french music over the speakers. After having coffee drinks at four different establishments over the past few days while staying in Oceanside I gave French Corner a chance while on a bike ride. Nicole who greeted us was great! She understood exactly what I was looking for and assured me that their Cappuccino wouldn't be like the ones that I had been experiencing...which were more like Lattes in a small cup. She was right...it was a traditional drink...espresso, a bit of milk and gorgeous foam...Yay! Also, the quiche hit the spot as well...a great experience in a small but very tasty place. read more

This is our third visit here food has been great, although on our 1st visit we were surprised to have to pay for coffee refills with breakfast. No notice just no refills full price if you did want one. OK so we're on bicycles we'll drink water. 2nd visit we brought our own drinks , food was good. Today new surprise I order half sandwich and fruit salad off the posted menu for my wife only to get some story that owner gets mad when they serve this meal eventhough it's on menu. Love this cute little French cafe! Their food, their drinks and their ambiance are SO French! My daughter and I love walking there for a breakfast treat in the morning as it's in our neighborhood. It's always quiet and low key. I never feel rushed or like we have to leave as soon as we're done. It feels like you're going to a friends patio for coffee and French pastries and breakfast. It's also super kid friendly in the back with what I assume are the owners kids old toys. The owners live upstairs. They are French. Their old cute dog just trots around the sidewalk some mornings. They are always playing sweet music that makes you feel like you're in a movie. Just love this place! read more

I used to go to the French Corner on a regular basis, but hadn't been there in a couple of years. I was in the neighborhood yesterday, so I thought I'd stop in again. The food had always been great, the staff and French lady who owned the store then were always friendly and courteous. So, I'm standing in line to order and notice liquid (water I assume) dripping into a pan of food from the shelf above in the display case. I pointed this out to a staff member who was promptly attentive. However, he misunderstood the location and I spoke again to better identify the source of the water. That's when a tall man interceded and said "I'm the owner. Thanks for pointing this out." I replied "You're welcome. I wouldn't want anyone to get sick." Then the man angrily replied "No one's going to get sick! I work for the Health Department!" Whoa! A public rebuke of a customer for offering assistance to prevent a possible food poisoning incident! And resultant loss of traffic. Whoever this "owner" is should not have contact with customers for any reason if he wants my return business, or better reviews. If you're considering this establishment, know that the food is great, the staff pleasant, but the owner is a bully. If you observe any potential Health Code issues, consider your next step carefully. And, if you don't want to interact with the owner, I'd suggest avoiding the weekends - he's more likely to be at his day job with the Health Department during the week. read more

Just went to the French Corner yesterday for the first time and had a Cafe au Lait. I flavor was amazing! Starbucks is like McDonald's in comparison. I didn't try any of the wonderful pastry, I wanted to, believe me. Next time. Warning though...parking is a real issue if you are not a local and cannot walk there from your house or business. So I wouldn't pick this spot for a business meeting again. But GREAT job on the coffee and the authentic French sidewalk cafe atmosphere. read more

There is no friggn way this place is 4 stars. First of all the place is dirty and the food sits. It's salmonella waiting to happen. Secondly, the help and service is unbelievably slow and very unfriendly. I ordered a special coffee and it took well over 10 min before I was served and finally the energy in the café feels like someone died. The two folks working when I was visiting were cold, semi rude and had personalities like and oak tree. The best thing this place can do is shut down. Lastly, the place is way over priced. read more

Went there today to try it out. Bill was $20.00 and I gave a $3 dollar tip. I had ordered the breakfast sandwich, a almond croissant and two quiches. The woman asked my girlfriend if we would like mixed greens on the side which I thought was nice. They gave us the pastry and two small quiches which each had 3 grapes on the side. A pleasant little snack, however after 20 minutes of waiting I realized the sandwich wasn't coming. I went in and found out that they had forgot to put the sandwich I had ordered on our bill.... So I basically paid 23 bucks for an unsatisfying snack. The mixed greens that I thought was a complimentary side to the quiche was actually the 6 grapes I received. Which when they walked me through the bill was in fact not complimentary but cost $4.... That is 66 cents a grape! Anyway I won't be going back and will not be recommending it to anyone. We were the only customers on a Sunday morning so they were not overloaded. The French owner was very rude and impatient with the older woman running the register and the other staff. The one fruit crepe was room temperature and had a just a tiny sprinkling on fruit on it. My side of steamed eggs had enough pepper on them to choke a horse. My wife's quiche was tasty but very tiny. All was finally served, after 15-20 minutes wait, on cheap, thin paper plates and a tacky French fry dish like street-cart food. The plastic forks were the flimsiest I've ever used. One Crepe. Eggs. Micro Quiche. 2 coffees. 1 orange juice. $36. I don't mind paying $50 for an awesome breakfast like Brockton Villa when it's served hot and enough food to fill us until we walk back to the car. This was a very expensive cold snack. I wanted to like this place to add to our weekly breakfast outing around coastal North County but just can't recommend it. (EDIT TO OWNER REPLY) So the owner just can't take criticism, obviously. She attempts to counter every single comment, mine or others, in all the reviews. If she spent as much time addressing the customers issues as she does getting on Yelp to dispute and deny every bad review, she might be ahead of the game. Hint lady, you might want to take all these comments to heart or your time in business will be short. You're attitude is "the customers is wrong, I'm French and have an educated palate." She addresses my over-peppered eggs as " an uneducated palate"??? WTF? No one peppers eggs that much. A cold crepe with 6 fruit slivers is to be appreciated by an educated palate? What education is she referring to? The school of cold food? Her rudeness was what it was. Rude. Even if your employees "don't take it personal", an EDUCATED owner knows not to talk that way in front of customers. read more

The baked goods are delicious. The crepes were greasy and mine was torn and fallen apart. I realize that pesto has some oil but the crepe should not be floating in it. The owners seem a bit too french, now you are in the USA, be friendlier..we don't need to speak french or pronounce your menu in french. The patio is awkward and crowded with furniture. I responded kindly to her sarcastic tone : "Your website showcased pies and pastries for purchase on site. " She barked: "no, you have to order in advance." My eyes quickly scanned the space. There was not much to sale on display-one lonely croissant and one want to be brioche! Overall, when I penetrated the space, I felt like an intruder who caught the owner arguing with her mother- thus paid for it with poor interactional relational skills. Just moved to Leucadia and decided to try the French Corner for Sunday breakfast. Came in at 10 on a Sunday with only 1 person in line ahead of us. Seating was easy enough on small patio tables. Ordered a cafe au lait, cappuccino, omelet du soleil, pastry and the French toast. Price came to $34 which wasn't terrible but definitely on the high side. We were served the pastry immediately but had to wait 10 mins for the coffee. Then another 35 minutes for the omelet and French toast. Coffee was long gone by the time the food arrived. We watched 2 other parties come, order, sit, eat and leave before we even received our food. Not just pastries either, but full meals (cooking time required). Time from order to receiving food was around 45 minutes total. Coffee was excellent, pastry was perfect and the omelet was very tasty. The French toast was well prepared, but I was very disappointed after taking my first bite. Apparently "organic maple syrup" means organic maple-flavored corn syrup. Wasn't expecting that from a high end "French" cafe. If you're going to charge those prices, spend the extra 50 cents to provide the real thing. Overall, pretty good food but terrible service (wait time). Won't be coming back unless it's during an odd hour and not prime time. TLDR: Expensive, good food. We have always loved and have been waiting for a venue like the French Corner since they opened and frequently make it a point to stop there for a snack during our walks. Albeit somewhat slow (very Paris) the service and food quality has kept us coming back. However, I'm sad to say that today was not a very pleasant visit at all. In fact we were taken aback and somewhat dissappointed in the way we were treated by no other than the owner. We have always asked for a side of mayo and Dijon since it's not offered when you order and have never encountered an issue. But today was very different and extremely unpleasant. When I pleasantly asked for a small side of both the owner shouted from the other side of the room that they don't provide them. When I reminded her that they always had in the past she quite rudely replied that if I wanted them there would be a charge. I said by all means no problem. I handed the waitress a $5 and she returned with a tablespoon of each and $2 in change. A little pricey for such a small dose I thought. Not sure if they were having a bad hair day or what but we were certainly taken by surprise especially since we took some friends with us and bragged to them about what a great expereince this would be and how terrific it was that it was within walking distance from our home. Oh Well, I guess we all have our bad days and we're willing to shake it off and try again but I'm hoping that the owner gets in a good surf before she starts fielding her loyal clientele next time. read more

Thought we would try this place. Love a good french bakery/cafe. Unfortunately, very disappointing. We ordered a latte, omelette and croissant. First on service. After ordering, we asked for a water cup for our dogs. The server said she would look and then proceed to walk away and start taking the next persons order. Completely ignored us. So, asked another server. She said she would look too and then started making another coffee drink. After waiting in front of the counter a good five mins and having been completely ignored, I asked the second server again and this time she deferred to the first gal who clearly was not following up. After waiting a few more minutes - the second gal finally saw I wasn't going away and so she grabbed a cup from behind the counter. The whole time I was standing there - I could see the to go cups - all they had to do was grab one and hand one over. After ordering, our latte took 20 mins, omelette took 40 mins. The place wasn't that busy - it was 8am... As for food. The croissant was good - very flaky and what you would expect in a "french" bakery. The $12 omelette was terrible. Completely overcooked and dry. Omelettes are supposed to be fluffy - this was brown throughout from sitting in the pan too long and bone dry. My husband is against wasting food. He made an exception this time. Such a shame - wanted to love it. Won't be. read more

I got French liver pâté sandwich, the taste was good. And the owner was extremely friendly (she is originally from France.) But when I used their bathroom, it killed everything. They kept the box (for to-go), drink cup in the bathroom!! OMG!! So nasty!! I don't want to drink with the cup which is kept in the bathroom. (Everybody pees/poos...) they should get the storage and keep the stuff in clean place. They use them for food!! I won't come back again...sorry. But the taste was good. read more

Went here during their "soft" opening. Not quite ready for prime time. $9 crepes that are barely there and not flavorful, stale croissant, warm coffee. No picture of the crepe on here, unfortunately I didn't have my phone to take a picture. Also, does not include potatoes or salad with the crepe. The staff seemed quite disorganized to handle orders or payments. I hope things will improve. read more

I wanted to like this place. I went to get breakfast ti check it out. I found it to be very expensive for Leucadia. The portion of the frittatta I got was so small for what I paid. I ordered a sweet roll and when I got home the chocolate cress-ant was in my bag. I wanted the other item and so I went back to exchange it. The owner did so gladly. The sweet roll was hard on the edges so I must have gotten a day or two old one. I did not buy coffee because I was told it is pricier then Starbucks up the road. The vibe and price is charming for maybe downtown SD, however very small. Not the laid back vibe of Leucadia. I work in hospitality in town and I think I will send my guests to the tried and true local places that serve my guests great food and reasonable prices. read more

This is a seriously adorable little cafe. It's seems small and unassuming, but the menu packs a mean punch and the butter coffee was amazing. We got the breakfast veggie crepe and the fruit rouges crepe, both were rapidly devoured. THEN we got an almond croissant, some kind of lemon fruit cake, and a delicious cream filled crispy caramel tube of awesome sauce with a latte for me and a mocha for my honey. It was way too much food for the two of us, but we couldn't resist. Staring down the barrel of a food comma. Super people, great food, and one hell of a cute dog. read more

I wanted to like this place but I was pretty disappointed. Immediately when I came in there was a fly on the pastries. So I definitely didn't even bother ordering any. Placed a couple orders that took wayyyy too long to prepare and get to us. Finally after like 45 minutes we get 2/3 of our orders to find out they didn't even process the first order we put in. So we had to make line again, reorder the order they say they didn't process when we had seen they had input that order the first time but I don't know supposedly maybe their machine removed the order, no idea. Anyway, basically took an hour to finally get our final order and the Nutella with strawberries was mediocre. read more
